"This iconic movie theater is the home of the Spanish national film archive, which makes it a good spot to catch art house films (at great prices). It also houses a pretty comprehensive shop for film nerds, though even non-filmophiles will appreciate the restored, Art Nouveau architectural details, evidenced by the old-fashioned café, red velvet theater interiors, and incredibly-detailed ceilings. Really special cinema. We liked watching old movie in old cinema. No food or drinks allowed inside. Box office opens 17:00 h. I think it is 3e for entering. We saw a movie for free I think because it was a film festival. 2/3 of tickets they sell online 1/3 is left for box office.

Exactly 4 min late for 5:30 movie, and i was not let in. I pleaded but The lady had rude behaviour. What is it? Do you want me to enjoy the theatre or just want to have your 5 min of satisfaction playing authority?

Sometimes we just pop in for coffee or books or to see a small exhibit. But movies are great! Fantastic old theater!

The Cine Doré, the oldest cinema in Spain, is a beautiful venue with two screening spaces and a cosy cafeteria, which hosts all kinds of films -old and modern- and film seasons at very affordable prices. Tickets can be purchased online (up to 5 days before the screening) or before the screening (they always keep 1/3 of the tickets for sale on the spot). Sometimes the screenings also include a presentation or a talk with some members of the film crew after the screening. Foreign language screenings (non-Spanish) are always shown in O.V. with Spanish subtitles.

Update 2024: We went for the first time to a film (Neil Young´s Heart of Gold) on the open air terrace at 22.00. A great experience. 2023: Hadn´t been for a long time. Great cinema showing classics on big screen in Sala 1. Beatifully renovated with films in VOSE original with Spanish subtitles. Also great value.

Wow: 2 min late and they won’t let you in. I pleaded but Talk to you very rudely. They just wanna show their 5 min or authority and don’t want you to enjoy your evening. Pathetic. Humiliation.

Waste of money and time. We had bought two tickets to go see a film. On our way there we were extremely excited to watch the film, however the public transport was a nightmare and we arrived 10min late. Spent more than 1h to arrive only for us to be told that we weren't allowed in. Very unforgiving! I wonder if you need the toilet, you probably won't be allowed back in?! As the reason is they don't want people to annoy others by sneaking past whilst the film is running. (Understandable) Never again, maybe when Madrid public transport is fixed, or if you leave with 2h in advance!!

This is the box office to get your tickets from 16:15 onwards. Located at the side of the building along the street. Check schedule on their website but tickets can only be purchased on site here. 👉 Attached pic of box office window. On the right where the guy is standing.

Yelp
This was one of my favorite places in the city. They show great old movies that change each month. They do themes each month sometimes featuring a specific director, actor, genre, etc. There's always something for everyone and if you're not that into one month's selections, you know it'll change the next month. Tickets are very cheap and the theater itself is really cool. They also don't dub any movies which is great.

Yelp
This is a beautiful little cinema that plays old, old, old movies. Each month has a different schedule and for 2,50€ a ticket! Now why is this even interesting for tourists!?!? 1) films range from old ones (1936!) to fairly new (2010). This is not the actual range, they carry films that are much older and films that are newer. But you just never know what to expect! 2) If I live in Madrid, this is where I'd like to spend my evenings. 3) The movie I watched was a Czech Republic 1996 film, played with Spanish subtitles. The subtitles messed up after 20 minutes, so they played a dubbed version for the rest of the film. For either version, I had no clue what anyone was saying. Still I was sitting there going, "Ahhh!!! Old foreign films!" 4) Basically it's like TIFF Lightbox in Toronto, but much cheaper tickets. Again, #2 5) It is also a public library!! with music, films, old documents. All relating to film and film history. AGAIN. #2 If you want to learn Spanish, don't just limit yourself with classes! come here!! I came alone by the way. Also there are lots of people here! I didn't think they want to spend an evening like this, but they do! Yay Madrid!

Yelp
One of the coolest movie theaters I have been to in my life. It's a truly historic establishment offering unbeatable prices for art-house and classic cinema. Tickets go as low as 2.5€ for a screening, and screen-times vary from 5pm, 7pm, or 9pm on weekdays and weekends. Closed on Mondays.

Yelp
cine dore is awesome. cheap tickets that you buy off the window in the alley. sounds sketch, but it's not. less than 3 euro admission, a small bar to hang out in, and art deco urinals, haha. check the schedule, it's always great. i caught the shining here, and it was great. if you are monolingual you may want to opt for films in your spoken language, but if you read spanish, you will do fine with the subtitles. a cool theater with boxes, a balcony, and plenty of space to move around. it gets crowded, so plan for seating. pretty much a no-nonsense theater, off the beaten path- but hey. it's madrid. you're going to walk a lot!

Yelp
One of my favourite places!! They have a very complete agenda all year round, with film cycles on different directors, epochs, styles, and genres, very very interesting. There are so many reasons why you should check it out: the low prices, the chance to see films on a large screen that may never be shown again or that you might have missed in the past, the chance to engross your knowledge of film culture, their great film bookshop, the conferences and presentations, the coffee shop, the summer terrace where you can catch a film out in the open while having a drink oh and don't forget, no dubbing!!!! They even have a piano for silent films!!! I cannot stress it enough, Filmoteca is one of the best reasons for living in Madrid.

Yelp
This is a classic old movie theatre of the style of the early 1900's when going to the theatre was a big deal, I suggest seeing a film here just for the nostalgia of the building!
