Our original Citarella gourmet market has stood on the same corner since 1912, with our own neighborhood following. Today, we've kept the friendly fishmongers and expanded the seafood counter to forty feet. Full-service butchers and chef-prepared foods await on the first floor. Shoppers should visit our upstairs section, featuring our deli, hand-cut smoked fish, selection of cheeses, and gourmet, freshly ground coffee- not to mention our sushi chefs. Serving the Upper West Side near Central Park, just across from the Beacon Theatre.
"Citarella is mentioned by Stanley Tucci as one of his favorite spots in New York to get cheese." - Cat Sposato
"Open since 1912, Citarella is one of the city’s most distinguished retail seafood purveyors, and be assured the store can distinguish fresh from not fresh (especially since they run several of the stalls at the Fulton Fish Market in the Bronx). This extends to the sushi, which is made during the day on a continuous basis, packaged in protective trays, and deposited in a reach-in case. Bargain assortments sufficient for a light meal come in at around $15, often including four or five nigiri and a maki roll. Watch the sushi chef at work, pick your assortment as soon it’s put in the case, and consume it on the sidewalk outside." - Robert Sietsema
"Mendes's favorite suppliers include local grocery chain Citarella." - Amanda Gabriele
"In the midst of a recent bout of winter cooking doldrums, Citarella swept in with the ultimate save: a complete at-home raw bar kit that required minimal work (basically, we plated it) and an impressive level of escapism. Citarella, the New York City–based gourmet market, recently created the package and named it after owner Joe Gurrera, a fishmonger known for his expertise on all things fresh seafood."
"Citarella isn't a restaurant, but the gourmet New York City market is the kind of place you would scoop up fabulous picnic fixings from on a spring day in the city. For a similar cook-free meal wherever you are, their Raw Bar kit hits the spot. Shipped straight from New York, this kit can be built for two to eight people, and includes pre-shucked oysters and littleneck clams, pre-cooked shrimp, lobster, stone crab claws, and king crab, plus garnishes like lemon and butter (and the option to add caviar). It's as celebratory as it gets—no preparation needed."
