"International hotel chain CitizenM opened its first Austin location in the downtown neighborhood this month. The 617 Colorado Street space opened on January 19. Food- and drinks-wise, there’s the CanteenM which has various snacks, pizza, pastries, coffees, beers, wines, and cocktails. And then for guests, there’s a rooftop bar near the pool." - Nadia Chaudhury

"International hotel chain CitizenM is opening an Austin location this year at 617 Colorado Street in downtown. It’ll include a rooftop pool and bar that will only be available for hotel guests. The bar will serve up cocktails, mocktails, and other drinks, and will serve food. The hotel itself will include a breakfast buffet. This is the brand’s third rooftop pool, including two in Miami." - Nadia Chaudhury

This hotel lives up to the “keep Austin weird”. Check in- self check in on the second floor, there’s about 6-8 screens to check in. There is a staff member to help if needed. Atmosphere- it is very busy, I mean like decorating wise there’s so much all other the place. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing. Its cute but i prefer minimalism. Room- I don’t see how people complain about the rooms being small when you can obviously see it on the pictures I mean research before you book then there’s nothing for you to complain about. Yes the room was very small, but I knew what I was getting myself into when I booked it so I’m not upset about it. It was actually really cozy. They have ambience lighting and you can choose any color. Everything was controlled through a mini iPad that it’s in the room. The sink is outside the shower toilet area, which was a little odd but not unseen or unusual. They have blackout curtains. There was also a really creepy looking doll on the bed so we did move that to the bottom of the bed in the drawer. There is a tiny little fridge where the sink is at. It doesn’t stay cold like a fridge, but it’ll stay cool. There’s also a safe underneath the bed in a separate drawer if needed. Food- the food wasn’t bad but maybe a little overpriced for the amount it was. A personal size pizza was $22 which is a little on the higher side for a personal size pizza. My husband got nachos and those were actually pretty good. Parking- this hotel does not have parking. You have to park in the garage across the street and it was expensive. I’m not sure we would be back because it’s not really our style, but it was nice as a one time experience type of thing. I forgot to take pictures when we first got there so I took them as we were leaving and the room is a little bit of a mess. I’m sorry to the cleaning crew.

I just completed a four night stay. First to note, all the staff are amazing . Everyone is friendly and helpful from the housekeeping to the Manager. The hotel is spotless and the rooms, although small are very comfortable. I woke up every morning with “ sheet marks “ on my face due to the most restful sleep :) The rooms have good beds and black out shades., small adequate gym. Good location. I’ll be back - Thanks

We stayed in 3 different hotels around Austin and citizenm was our favorite. The fabulous exterior is up to date and modern. It really makes you want to go in to see what’s inside! Once you make your way to the reception, you have the option of contactless check in but I highly recommend at least engaging with the staff because they are awesome. They invited us to come watch the football game and hang out in one of their many lounge areas. The roof top bar and pool also had great views. The room we stayed in had a fantastic view and was recommended by the gentleman assisting with check in. The shower and lighting in the room was fantastic and the black out blinds were a great option for sleeping in a bit. The only 2 wants I have from this location is discounted or validated parking from the garage and a fan in the bathroom/shower area. We will be looking for CitizenM for our trips from now on!

Just an incredible experience overall. As someone who travels for work, I have stayed at a variety of hotels. Nothing compares to CitizenM though. It’s affordable, but does not skip out on the luxury experience. From the great drinks offered at the Bar, to the variety of art displayed throughout the hotel, to the Peloton bikes and smart mirror in the gym… This was my first time staying with CitizenM, and it won’t be my last. I loved it so much that I am now planning my vacations this year around where CitizenM is located!

Google
CitizenM is a fantastic hotel that prioritizes practicality and efficiency. The customer service is exceptional—everyone goes above and beyond to ensure a great stay. However, the rooms and beds are quite compact. If you’re over 5’10”, you might find the standard room a bit of a challenge. Overall, it’s a great choice for travelers who value modern, efficient design and excellent service.

Had a 10/10 experience here. Service was top, breakfast was beyond good, no corners cut in this hotel. Easy check in, comfy and cosy room and some really cool folks working here. Location was so good. Thanks for making our trip to Austin even better. Can't wait to stay in a citizenM hotel again.

Google
The staff at CitizenM in Austin were phenomenal!! I'm a young professional and they made me feel so safe and taken care of. I 100% recommend this location. AND the breakfast is incredible!! A specialty coffee from a barista included?? It was just delicious every day. The room was the perfect size for me by myself, knowing that I wouldn't be in there much.

Great location, rooms were very good. Pillows awesome. Breakfast was good. Staff friendly. I checked in on a Sunday and I was informed that on Wednesday they would clean the room and get fresh towels. Unfortunately that didn't happen.

Yelp
We stayed at the Citizenm hotel downtown Austin for Valentine's Day weekend for our annual Valentine's Day getaway and for a close friend's wedding. We chose this hotel because it is a really cool art-centered hotel and the price is very affordable. The hotel was perfect for the two of us. They have self check-in upon arrival, and you can choose your floor and view if the rooms are available. This is a very modern hotel with electronic controls for everything in your room. We loved the bar on the second floor, and although we didn't order, they have 24/7 room service. This is a gem of a hotel, and if we come back to Austin, we might stay here again. The only reason it is not a 5 star is because there is no parking and they don't have a relationship with the garage across the street for a discount. We had to pay $33 a night to park, but it's right across the street and easy to get to. We recommend this hotel because it is very modern and close to many places to eat. Thanks, Ashley and Lindsey Head San Diego, CA visiting Austin, TX

Yelp
The hotel room was clean and the bed was comfortable. This is where any positivity ends. The rooms claimed to be soundproof and they absolutely were not. The room itself is controlled by an ipad which is very clunky. Things like adjusting the volume of the TV had to be done by the ipad and it was very difficult. Also, the hotel does not have any parking. AT ALL. Which made me look to nearby garages. AVOID The garage next door at all costs. It was very difficult to use, and my car was both dented and broken into during my 2 night stay. I like European style hotels, however this was not that. It was a very frustrating experience.

Yelp
I have had the worst customer service I've ever experienced at this hotel at the hands of an employee named "Lizette". From raising her voice, to saying "so what, you want free things" in response to me saying I can't t sleep because of the smoke detector - I am truly appalled. The solution she continued to give was that if I can't sleep I can check out. I am writing this genuinely in shock by the way this employee has handled a paying guest at this hotel. AVOID THIS PLACE.

Yelp
Stayed at CitizenM for a few days while we were attending a wedding in Austin. Hotel is right in downtown, it's clean, and convenient to many eateries, CVS, and bars. Check in: the check in process gives you a stark indication this hotel ain't your dad's hotel. The process was essentially self serve. You check in at one of the kiosks, scanning your own ID, creating your own room keys. They have staff there to assist but I can see how those who are less tech savvy would be potentially turned off my this. If, however, you're somebody like me who enjoys technology and doing things yourself then this is heaven. Don't bother me, let me do it myself so I can get to my room. The staff that was there was incredibly nice and quick to offer assistance for those who needed it. Room: these rooms are small. It's pretty much a galley with the bed pushed at the end next to the window. The sink is in the room, separate from the shower/toilet area, which honestly was fine. Bed is actually quite big and comfortable - we're two big boys and had plenty of room. I liked being next to the window in bed so I could be nosey and people watch. I did have to climb over my husband any time I needed to get out of the bed so be mindful of that. There's a good amount of storage beneath the bed so you should be able to empty out your bags because you're gonna have a helluva time trying to maneuver them around the small space. Again, the tech comes in because everything is controlled through an iPad. Lights, tv, shades. It all worked nice except the tv, which was pretty laggy at times. Overall I actually found the room nice. It was smartly designed for the limited space, clean, and comfortable. How much time are you really spending in your room anyway? For me, it's just a place to sleep and this was more than adequate. Parking: there is none. There are plenty of paid lots around the area so you won't have issues finding a spot. We were lazy so we parked in the building directly adjacent at $33 a day. Facilities: they had an ok gym and a decent pool. There's a bar/eatery. Nice staff. Had a couple drinks at the bar and they weren't bad. There are also a bunch of lounge areas with nice seating where you can just chill after a long day. Hotel was clean, which to me is priority. Overall, I really liked it. I'd stay here again. I like the tech, the location was convenient, and staff was nice. If you're not somebody who needs a large room, this hotel is perfect. If two big bears can be comfortable, you can make it work. Also if you're not tech savvy, don't stay here. Otherwise, great hotel.

Yelp
Had such a great and memorable stay at CitizenM in Austin! I absolutely loved the modern abstract art everywhere. It is truly a fun and eclectic vibe throughout the entire hotel. The staff here were awesome! From walking us through the check-in process to the hospitality throughout our stay including breakfasts, drinks and pointing us to whatever we needed, everyone we met was so cool and nice. Shoutout to my fav, Jim from Akron! One of my favorite parts of the stay was breakfast. It's an added fee but well worth it. They have great coffee and other cafe drinks for order, and a delicious spread of savory hot breakfast foods, pastries, fresh fruit, breads, meats, cheeses, yogurt and granola... the list goes on. It was a great way to start each day. The rooftop pool was gorgeous and I enjoyed the nice towels provided and the bar to order drinks & snacks from. I give CitizenM 4 stars only because the rooms are very small and a bit cramped, and while I appreciate the high tech aspect of the hotel, the iPad controlling *literally everything* was a bit much. And I say that as a tech-savvy millennial. I can't imagine my parents or many other elder adults loving the rooms, but that's probably not citizenM's target audience. 5 stars for the bed, though, it was incredibly comfortable! Overall, I highly recommend this hotel to anyone okay with staying in a small space . I'm planning to check out others in various cities as I really enjoyed the vibe and my personal experience here.

Yelp
Claims to be a luxury hotel, and certainly charges like it is.... But the check in process is chaotic, and the people who work there are confused and indifferent. The rooms are tiny, and feel like you are staying in a 1972 Airstream trailer. No basic amenities, like a laundry bag, or coffee, or bottled water. No space to put your essentials. No plugs for one side of the bed to charge phones, etc. In fact, the bed can only be accessed on one side, so you are climbing over each other to get in and out. Zero parking available; they rely solely on private parking lots in the surrounding area. They offer a free breakfast, but you have to "pre-register" for it when you check in. Otherwise it is $21 per person. When we checked in, they did not offer it, so we missed it completely.

Yelp
Stayed at this hotel because it was pretty conveniently located and a friend of mine was visiting and liked it here. We had separate rooms. First, it's beautiful to look at, very quirky, very eccentric. You have to go up to the second floor to check in. You walk in on your greeted with computers so you can do your own check-in. The whole concept of this hotel is kind of creepy, futuristic, Orwellian. You are consistently referred to as 'citizen.' That's creepy. They have people there to help you check in because it gets a little confusing, but why not just check me and yourself? Anyway, then you get your key card and your key card works only for the floor you're on. So me going to my friends room or them coming to mine was not going to happen. It was weird. So if we wanted to meet we would just have to go to the second floor, they couldn't come to my room to meet me. So odd. Got to the room and it's very clean and neat and it has a very cool iPad sort of control where it changes the lighting and the TV and the blinds. That was OK. The sink is in the same room as the bed which I never really like. The shower was spacious, but they give you two shampoos and a conditioner, no body wash. You can use the shampoo as a body wash , but I'm not sure why they don't just give you body wash. Everything was OK, but they have this weird doll that they leave sitting at the end of your bed. I haven't figured out why, I just put it away so I didn't have to look at it. The worst part of this entire hotel is the bed. It is the hardest bed you will ever sleep on. Not only is it hard as a rock, but I hope you're not tall because it is not a big and it goes wall-to-wall, all of the rooms are the same. You can lay across the bed and I think it's maybe a little more space, I didn't try, but anyway. The pillows are also really full and hard. I have slept on floors and been more comfortable. No exaggeration. The hotel just wasn't ok. I will never stay there again.
