Fulton Market’s City Hall With ‘Kickback’ Shots Opens Friday - Eater Chicago

"Enormous restaurant and event space City Hall opens tomorrow with simple American dishes and an abundance of drinks named with civic puns. Owners hope the 18,000-square-foot space will cultivate a comfortable neighborhood feel with occasional DJ appearances and live music at 838 W. Kinzie Street, according to a news release. Culinary director Michael Taus designed a menu of comfort foods that draws on memories of his mother and grandmother’s classic dishes. These include a grilled cheese with poblano jam, applewood-smoked bacon, havarti, and white cheddar, and chili-garlic chicken wings served with yogurt mint sauce, buffalo-style, or with blue cheese dressing. Owners divided the huge space with 40-foot ceilings into a few discrete sections that include a 5,000 square-foot bar and restaurant with leather chairs and custom chandeliers. It connects to an 8,000 square-foot patio. A second floor lets customers gaze down into the 10,000 square-foot event space, which features a 40-foot marble bar and art deco touches." - Naomi Waxman

We had the most incredible experience with City Hall Events as our wedding venue! The space itself is absolutely stunning - the perfect blend of Chicago charm with exposed brick and modern, elevated touches. It looked even more gorgeous than we could have imagined on our wedding day! Halfway through planning, the venue coordinator we had originally been working with left, and Taylor stepped in - and from the moment she did, she knocked it out of the park. Her communication was clear and consistent, she was incredibly flexible, and we felt instantly at ease with her. Taylor paid attention to every single detail and made sure everything ran flawlessly right through the wedding day. We truly couldn’t have asked for a better partner throughout the process. The bartenders were also fantastic - incredibly efficient and friendly. Despite having a packed dance floor all night, there was never a line at the bar. So many guests commented on how smooth and seamless everything felt. We are so happy we chose City Hall Events for our big day. The venue, the team, and especially Taylor made the experience unforgettable. We would recommend City Hall to anyone considering it for their wedding or event - you will be in amazing hands.

I’m going to start this review by saying never in a million years did I expect SO MANY PEOPLE to compliment us on our wedding venue choice. So many guests said they loved the space at City Hall for a variety of reasons - some for the loft vibe, some the pretty bar, some the staircase we walked down during wedding party intros, some the easy access to an afterparty space at Recess - everyone was really wowed by the space in different ways. From the couples’ perspective, City Hall is a dream, as well! We had 130 guests and they fit in the space perfectly - enough people for it to feel full, with plenty of space left to dance. It is a blank slate so you can transform it however you’d like, but you can also add very little and it still looks beautiful with the large marble bar, pretty lights, and gorgeous floral mural. We worked with Mandy, and she is incredible. So responsive, hilarious, and genuinely a joy to work with!! She recommended tons of vendors to us which made many potentially overwhelming decisions very easy. If you go with City Hall as your venue, we highly recommend taking Mandy’s recommendations as all the vendors we chose knew each other and had worked together, which made for a very seamless wedding day - and they all did a fantastic job. On the day of our wedding, the space ended up looking truly magical. We were exhausted and Mandy materialized a bunch of cold brew for us as soon as we arrived at the venue after our ceremony. There were tons of appetizers waiting for us in the bridal suite which is nice and tucked away, and a great spot to go take a breather right after the ceremony while the guests are enjoying cocktail hour. There was never a line at the bar since it's so big, and the bartenders were great! One of them thanked me at the end of the night and told me how adorable our first dance was, which really put a smile on my face. And best of all, instead of ending the night at midnight when the reception was over, everyone who still had some party left in them got to walk right over to Recess, and we stayed almost until close! City Hall Events was really the perfect place to have the perfect wedding night. Thank you to Mandy and everyone from City Hall for helping us make our dream wedding come true!! You truly went above and beyond to make it the perfect night. xoxo Sabrina and Brendan O’Brien

This venue is absolutely beautiful - we had our wedding reception here 5.21.22. We had so many compliments from guests! Only issue I had was the name - it can get VERY confusing telling your guests and friends that the event is at City Hall.

We just had our December 2022 wedding at City Hall and we cannot recommend the venue highly enough!! The space was absolutely gorgeous for all parts of our evening - ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, dancing, everything! The room flip from ceremony to the dinner/reception portion of the evening was very smooth - very quiet and guests did not even notice. We had 130 guests at our wedding and the venue felt like the perfect size for our vision (we had a 10 piece band with a fairly large dance floor). The alcohol selections were top notch, and the venue has excellent AV equipment already in place. Our venue contact, Mandy, was the BEST to work with!! She was extremely accommodating, very responsive, and always went the extra mile to make our day the best it could be. We cannot recommend this venue and this team highly enough!

City Hall Events deserves all the stars in the universe! I'm absolutely thrilled to share our experience because it was nothing short of magical. First things first, everyone at City Hall is not just good but utterly fantastic. Shoutout to Mandy – she's not your typical coordinator; she's more like your enthusiastic partner in crime. Mandy's bubbly, responsive, and oh-so-much-fun to work with. She made the whole wedding planning journey feel like a breeze, and we genuinely felt like we were planning our special day with a friend (which we were). Now, let's talk about flexibility. City Hall didn't just accommodate our needs; they welcomed them with open arms. I must've visited the venue a dozen times for the quirkiest, most random requests, and every time, they were like, "No problem, we've got you!" Going the extra mile? Absolutely. And here's the icing on the cake – City Hall has these incredible relationships with other wedding vendors. Our other vendors absolutely adored working with them, and it added this amazing synergy to the whole event. Everything just fell into place seamlessly. City Hall is a dream come true for wedding venues, and I wouldn't hesitate to do it all over again just to work with them. If you're on the hunt for a venue that offers professionalism, flexibility, and a team that feels like family, look no further than City Hall. They're the wedding venue of your dreams, trust me!

I cannot even begin to tell you how awesome the team at City Hall Events is. Toula and Mandy are the absolute dream team! My husband and I got married here on 10/02/21. Of course, the venue is beautiful, but what really stood out to us was the attention to detail from the entire team. From initial planning to final walkthroughs, Toula and Mandy truly became our friends and helped us create a vision that was literally two years in the making. The cool thing about the space is that it really is a blank slate. You can do anything you want to make your vision come to life and that's exactly what we did. Also, I can't tell you the number of guests that complimented us on little things that they noticed, such as not having to wait in line at the bar for a drink because they have more than enough bartenders staffed. We've all been to weddings where that's not the case. It's small details that make a big difference and the team here runs a tight ship that truly pays off. Thank you so much for making our day the absolute best, and of course, laughing with us along the way! Cheers! Rob & Dave

Looks like a really nice venue however extremely hard to get in contact with anyone inregards to a showing to possibly have a wedding or reception there . I could not get in contact with anyone on the phone since July . And I sent an email I didn’t see a response until weeks later. I really want to see this venue.

This is operated by the Atomic Hospitality which also owns Artifact Events, Morgan MFG, Recess and Untitled S.C. This is probably the biggest event space out of Artifact Events and Morgan MFG.
