The 14 Hottest New Restaurants in New Orleans, October 2024

"New Orleans’s newest food hall is City Market (initially called Elysian Market), opened in July in a vibrantly painted building at the intersection of Elysian Fields and St. Claude Avenue. The airy, plant-filled space offers several global cuisines like sushi and poke; pho, banh mi, and vermicelli bowls; boba and fresh juice; burgers and wings; and boiled seafood, including crawfish. An outpost of Zoe’s Bakery, a popular Covington bakery, is slinging strawberry Napoleon and other pastries, there’s a full bar, and fresh produce is for sale." - Clair Lorell

My family and I stopped in for dinner, and here’s what we thought: Kim Son Express: The food was pretty good. The pepper steak was a little salty for our taste, but the rice was tasty and well-cooked. Bywater Burgers and Wings: The mushroom Swiss burger was decent, but not amazing. I wasn’t a fan of the spring mix on the burger,I was expecting regular lettuce. The buffalo wings were a hit, especially with my kid. The southwest egg rolls were delicious and tasted super fresh, not like the frozen ones you get at some places. Suga: We tried both the mango and pineapple lemonades, and they were fantastic, really refreshing and full of flavor. Zoe’s Bakery: I had the almond croissant. It was hard as a rock but actually tasted pretty good. Still, I probably wouldn’t get it again. The atmosphere was really nice, calm and relaxing. The customer service was just okay, but everyone we interacted with was friendly and welcoming.

This place looks nice the atmosphere is the only go to ! , but the food is trash! That seafood spot in there? No flavor! I told the worker he said a lot of older people come ? So y’all don’t season y’all food? lol it’s not worth it y’all don’t do it ! The wok place? Trash! No flavor! The fried rice was hard and unseasoned, and the chicken was bland with barely any sauce. Seriously, if you’re going to be in the heart of the city, y’all have to do better! The smoothie and boba place was the only thing I enjoyed—I honestly should have just gotten a salad. The food I got wasn’t worth the calories or the cheat day. I am highly disappointed!

Today was the worst experience I ever had with the Poke Bowl. The guy who was there today had old rice; nothing was fresh. It looked like he hadn't changed anything. How could you sell someone old food? I should have looked at it before I left. 16.00 dollars went to waste.

Google
Great Foodhall with so many amazing options. Loved the pho as well as the springs rolls and crab rangoon. Poke bowl with spicy tuna was probably the best dish. Can't wait to return to try the Bánh Mi and the cakes.

Google
Zoe’s bakery is AMAZING HERE. like best cake I’ve ever had. Best cinnamon roll I’ve ever had. Colin was an angel at prepping my order. And I’ll be back bc of Zoe’s bakery. I did try the wing place as well. My only complaint is I did ask for easy sauce and it was drenched in them but food was good besides that. I did like that when I asked to see the look of the wings since they did hold one up for me to see before purchasing.

Nice, little food fall with several Asian food options. There's a quick wok, pho shop, poke shop, zoe' Bakery, seafood boil inside. All affordable options. Beautifully docorated and clean interior. Lots of seating too.

Google
Overpriced. Stir fry was below average, pho don’t even bother.

Google
This place is beautiful. I absolutely love the creative idea of the food court. The food is so good and they make everything to order. Zoe’s bakery is top tier. All their pastries are so fresh. The fruit teas are my favorite. 10/10 would recommend

Yelp
I love this place! Multiple options to choose from, all with great portions and dishes. I've had the poke from Kiko multiple times, so delicious for only $15! They also serve bento boxes, which my friend loved. The stir fry place is also build your own and $15! Zoe's bakery in the middle has amazing sweet treats and also delicious coffee drinks. The Mariny market has great deals on boiled seafood and there's a great chicken booth. It's extremely clean, well laid out, and all of the servers and owners are very friendly. It gives super new age/trendy vibe and very aesthetically pleasing but the food gives comfort/homemade and fresh. I will keep going back!

Yelp
Taste: 5 Creativity/Authenticity: 5 Atmosphere: 4 Service: 5 Bang for your buck: 4 The concept of this food hall is awesome but I think for the area it's only a matter of time sadly. Came here at lunch time and it was empty! And though they had a variety of different food compared to nothing but fried everything it was good to see Asian food. Now that being said this was the best Vietnamese vermicelli bowl I've ever had, and I just got back from Vietnam!! I prefer egg noodle but the rice noodle here, blew me away!! The pork also was fire!! So tender and flavorful! Overall I'm sad the best pork bowl I've had is in NOLA and not closer to where I live but when I'm in town I will return!!

Yelp
Finally got a chance to stop into this lovely airy food hall on a rainy Monday. I have to admit that it felt funny to be stopping into this space that had been empty for so long and a beauty mega store before that. What a beautiful transformation! I was there an hour before close but all the vendors were welcoming! I grabbed a yummy banh mi (Suga) and some pastries (Zoe's) and my friend got something from Kim Son. Service was really fast and everyone was really friendly. I'll have to get back over there for poke soon.

Yelp
The market has great Asian cuisines! I ordered a chicken stir fry, and it was about $15. The food is quickly prepared, and there's a bunch of large, long tables to enjoy your meal. The place is covered in faux marble and gold-painted furniture. It's clearly cheap, but still aesthetically pleasing. Also, there's a spacious parking lot for customers, which is great for the area!

Yelp
"Kim Son Express" definitely one of the best "Pho" options around. Order over the phone food was ready in 10 min packed all utensils. Also a good price compared to what's closer to home. Definitely going back. Only small problem they could give more vegetables but meat portion was good something that usually lacks with pho.

Yelp
Such a nice food hall. Spacious, with ample seating... and a parking lot!!!!! There's parking people!! There's a variety of places here. There's a bakery, sushi, pho, banh mi, burgers, wings, etc. Something for everyone. All the staff I've found to be very nice. I'm glad it's close by. I'll be back!

Yelp
Great size poke bowl, delicious with customized options. Did not wait long and it was brought out to our table. Lots of seating and a nice crowd. Will be back to try the other vendors! Love having options with a parking lot.

Yelp
It seems like the anticipated opening of City Market took forever before it happened but happy it finally made it to fruition. But like many of the food courts the dependability of vendors and the ability to fill the stalls is a challenge. Currently the bar has never opened. To my knowledge alcohol is NOT available in the market (guessing it might have a BYOB option but didn't inquire). Many stalls are not open and the ones that were are limited. For instance the sushi vendor had no sushi when we went yesterday. But the space very clean with a fresh open design. We tried two vendors. Suga for their Banh Mi which were both good but bland and didnt have any pickled veggies that I would expect. Zoe's bakery was very good. We tried a few of their desserts and really enjoyed the flavored cheesecakes. I'm rooting for this new market to grow as we come into the busy season in town so go out and support it. This has the potential to be something wonderful.

Yelp
City Market 1101 Elysian Fields Ave, New Orleans, LA 70117 I'm late on the post, but I finally had the opportunity to go to the City Market, aka Asian food hall that opened a few months ago near Marigny! With the beautiful decor and varieties of food they offer, I will definitely be back to try more things from the other vendors. Here's some of the stuff I was able to sample for now until next time! - Kim Son Express 1. Bun Bo Hue / Spicy Vietnamese Beef & Pork Noodle Soup.(favorite) 2. Pork egg rolls (favorite) 3. Crab Wonton - Bywater Burger and Wings 1. Mango habanero and lemon pepper Wings - Zoe Bakery 1. Yelp
I love coming in this place, desserts, lots of different types of Asian food, everything I've tried in here has been very good. Suga is my favorite.

Yelp
Grand opening weekend and beautiful inside. A lot of Vietnamese style food & drinks, poke and such. We decided to split the sweet chili wings (6 for $10) and then get a pork bahn mi ($7) from another spot. They also handed out some Dong Phuong rolls while we were in line. I'm assuming they might have something to do with the concept. Can't wait to go back when ALL the "eateries" are open.

Yelp
The Full Monty! We went for the first time today. It was....amazing. We approached this task with a serious plan. Walk the whole place, a large circle of delights, and then make decisions. First was Zoes. Pastry Heaven. Plus King Cakes with a large plate of samples! We were smiling already. Next was bamigh sandwiches. Pardon my spelling. To the left as we rounded the curve was seafood delight and then: the burgers! More on that later. On the left was poke bowls! Just like the ones on the Big Island in Hawaii! And finally we saw fresh spring rolls. Research over! We were hungry! So we ordered pork/shrimp spring rolls. O my! They were delicious and fresh and full of shrimp and pork. Their peanut sauce was a bit sweet but the sirach sauce blended perfectly. So we retuned to the start. The bakery! We bought two small cream cheese filled king cakes, one for later and the other for a friend. For toniight we settled on a huge piece of chocalate mousse cake!! We lined up for our poke bowls next. Each was customized with a personal menu sheet. One had teriyaki salmon, the other had raw salmon. Plus dozens of other selections. These were just as good as the Big Island version, without the 6,000 mile plane ride!! While waiting for our custome poke bowls two things happened. We had a great talk with the chef building the bowls and he offered us his personal favorite pot sickers with seaweed and edamane: no charge! Yum! And we also started talking to the burger chef across and he told us of his blend of brisket and short rib prime beef in the burgers. Guess what? We ordered one. It was out of this world delicious! We left with a big bag of leftovers and great desserts. We are going back on Wednesday night for dinner prior to a local concert. Please enjoy this hidden gem!

Yelp
We have watched and waited and fantasized about how good this we be. It is finally open an has filled nearly ever stall. Not all Asian as I think we hoped but every vendor is making aa great presentation. The atmosphere is bright and airy creating a feeling of being outdoors. No loud music and foam sprayed ceiling makes it possible to share a conversation without yelling. I was so tempted by Bywater Burgers but I promised myself to try something I wouldn't normally get to try. Zoe's Bakery was making my diabetes hurt just smelling the delicacies. I wanted that cappuccino blondie so bad.I chose Kim Son Express, the made me think of those shopping mall asian place. This not your typical mall food. The picture with the steak was my choice. I got the rice rather than the noodle. The side salad was a refreshing addition to a tender and well seasoned beef with perfect rice. The crab rangoon was crunchy with nice ratio of cream cheese to "crab". I know most Asian dinners wouldn't touch it but for people who like the Asian-American version, it checked all the boxes. Now for the pork egg-rolls, YUM! The Marigny Market did the shrimp platter. The cook on the fries and shrimp was perfect. The shrimp were tender and fresh but needed some spice, maybe a bit more salt too. Suga had a line. I wish they had some local speciality ice creams. There is a Korean place but I can't remember the name. They are set up to eventually have a bar, wouldn't be nice to have a variety of Sake? The Kiko Sushi and Poke was open. I am not an expert in that so will leave for someone else to elaborate about. It is obvious a lot has gone into bringing this establishment to life. My only complaint is the chairs don't encourage hanging out and were for looks only, not sitting.

Yelp
Had the grilled chicken bahn mi, bang bang shrimp nori taco and chicken hibachi. All was so flavorful and surprisingly affordable for the neighborhood. Very excited to try more from the other booths! The service was attentive and quick even in the face of bigger opening day crowds. Friendly staff all around. The inside is tastefully decorated. There's enough room to move around to not feel cramped with their layout too. The outside mural is spectacular as well. Overall, had a nice lunch and enjoyed my time here. Will be back.

Yelp
Place is garbage overpriced frozen food very unprofessional staff. Could never pay me to go back

Yelp
Got the chargrilled shrimp rice vermicelli. Really good, very fresh however there wasn't a spice option. So if you prefer yours on the spicier side then I wouldn't recommend. Tried out the bakery too and I loved their cookies. No complaints.

Donna W.

Yelp
The food from Kim Son was excellent! service was good. seating area shiny clean. I need to go back and try the other vendors. Only complaint was that the metal chairs were not comfortable.
google avatar

Yelp
There are not enough vendors to recommend this yet. Hopefully, it will get better. The food was worth going to again. I'm gonna wait for awhile.

Yelp
Wanted to like this place. Cute decor inside nice seating and good setup. Tried everything. The fried seafood place was ok. Oysters terrible but my daughter loved the fried shrimp platter. The burger wing place is good but not anything stand out. Had with lemon pepper wings. Poke is ok not the best or worst. The best place in here was the hibachi I had the steak and rice plate and a nori taco. It's already closed! I went back specifically for hibachi yesterday. Some lady with a laptop I assume is the owner rudely told me they are no longer there. Oh well never going back.

Yelp
We had the pho from the Vietnamese restaurant right when you walk in. It's the best we have found in the area. Being Filipino from San Francisco my boyfriend says we will definitely be back. Their fried shrimp rolls and Spring Rolls are definitely a must. Everyone couldn't have been nicer even met the market manager, Shaun. This will be a weekly spot for us for sure!!

Yelp
Tried the bakery with mixed results. The eclair wasn't one. Had the Bahn Mi and it was okay. It's too darn bright in this place. The lighting needs to be more inviting and less interrogating. Food can be improved but it's just not comfortable. Ice and boba don't work well either.

Wendy W.

Yelp
Overpriced Banh Mis and Drinks... Taro smoothie was made completely wrong...Service was fast, but lady in the blue shirt (owner?) was incredibly rude... Ambiance would be nice if they cleaned more often, tables and floors are very dirty... Looks more like a botanist/garden from the outside rather than a food store, 0 marketing at all needs MAJOR improvement!

Phil B.

Yelp
Great food options and friendly people. If I lived in NOLA, I would here multiple times a week.

Basher. L.

Yelp
There are bugs EVERYWHERE. Flies can be found going in and out of kitchens. I saw a fly on the RAW FISH of the Poke Bar, with it being completely unattended. A line of ants can be found crawling on the dirty windowsill. If the owners of City Market are oblivious to flies and ants in the open, imagine what goes on in the kitchen... If you care about your health, do NOT eat at this establishment! No gluten free anything, the seafood gumbo is just a repackaged CHICKEN AND SAUSAGE gumbo with shrimp added on top. Shrimp and fish are fried in the same oil, so be aware of that if you are allergic!

Michelle M.

Yelp
City Market is the new, trendy restaurant group to serve NOLA. The food vendors are clean, courteous and family friendly. Zoe's Bakery prepares a wide card baked goods. I drive there just for dessert. Great concept, good food and clean environment.

Tuan C.

Yelp
Best asian food I've had in a while. Would highly recommend to anyone in the area. I tried their poke and quality was very good
