The 16 Best Bars & Restaurants In Cherrywood - Austin - The Infatuation

"There are plenty of spots to get coffee in Cherrywood, but our favorite is Civil Goat because of the excellent food coming out of the kitchen. Order the avocado and crunchy garlic salad—it’s mostly made up of arugula and cherry tomatoes with a lemon shallot vinaigrette, but the soft-boiled egg, avocado, quinoa, and garlic provide great texture that makes for a light but balanced lunch." - nicolai mccrary

The Best Restaurants To Eat Something Kind Of Healthy In Austin

"The first time we ordered the avocado and crunchy garlic salad at Civil Goat on Manor Road, we immediately came back the next two days to get it again. Once the staff started to recognize us, we headed to Civil Goat’s two other locations in the Austin area to throw off the scent. It’s a simple salad, mostly made up of arugula and cherry tomatoes with a lemon shallot vinaigrette, but the soft boiled egg, avocado, quinoa, and crunchy garlic all give it some great texture that makes it feel like a light, but balanced lunch. And if, for some reason, we haven’t already sold you on this salad, Civil Goat also offers a selection of toasts, acai bowls, and breakfast plates to accompany the menu of house-roasted coffees and teas. " - raphael brion, adele hazan, nicolai mccrary

Civil Goat - Review - Cherrywood - Austin - The Infatuation

"Civil Goat is a coffee shop on Manor Road in East Austin, with two other locations in the Austin area—there’s one in the Cuernavaca neighborhood, and another by campus. And just like at the other two locations, the drink menu features house-roasted coffees and espressos, plus a small food menu of pastries, toasts, salads, and acai bowls." - Nicolai McCrary

Okay I’ve been going here for years and generally am a big fan. Great coffee, acceptable breakfast, walking distance from my house BUT the winds have changed. Great service has now been replaced an iPad. You walk in to see two baristas chatting behind the counter, fully ignoring you while you wait for somebody to ask for your order, and then you notice that counter service has been replaced by an iPad you have to digitally order on. Blech. It’s 2025, not 2020, you have no excuse. Also, if I was ordering from a person I could ask why I have to pay an extra 50¢ for vanilla in my London Fog when the ingredient list literally includes vanilla and when the ordering mechanism literally requires me to choose a syrup.

Ashoka A.

Google
Great coffee and a cool vibe. Subpar food.. actually not enjoyable. May have been an off day so will give it one more shot since it’s close by.

Upayan

Google
I love the croissant sandwiches and the outdoor patio is amazing. Great place to get work done! Just wish they would take orders without a kiosk. Kiosks are dehumanizing and actually slower. I think people are too slow on iPads.

Kendall W.

Google
The steamed milk espresso drinks are expertly crafted, the base espresso is good, and the toasts are epicurean delights. Plus, they have a lawn space with volleyball and mini soccer balls that’s a lot of fun to kick around. One easy-fix issue is that they had the AC blasting when it was 50 degrees F outside; made it quite cold.

Google
Civil Goat is DELICIOUS! Their variety and quality of coffee is above expectation and the atmosphere is quiet and peaceful. This coffee shop is located in a safe part of town. The service was quick and helpful as well. I would highly recommend this place to my friends and family. I would come back.

Bailey I.

Google
We got 2 drinks and a chia seed pudding. The drinks were both lukewarm (they did offer to remake mine) and very flavorless. They both tasted like slightly sweetened milk and we had to ask for the pudding 10 minutes after the drinks. The whole ordering off of a kiosk really kills the social vibe unfortunately but I understand most companies are using it to save money now.

Isaiah Marc S.

Google
The drinks were quick and okay. For a cafe, 50 minutes for a takeout order with 2 items is crazy. It didn’t seem that busy but a heads up would’ve been nice. The goats are cute. The atmosphere and environment is really spot on, perfect place to work remotely. It’s a shame our experience wasn’t great.

Addie O.

Google
This is our neighborhood coffee shop, and we’ve been coming here for the great staff, good music, and dog park a few times a week for at least 3 years. The staff provides amazing service, and knows a lot of customers by name. Did I mention good music 🖤

Yelp
Coffee and breakfast spot close to UT. Staff were very friendly, recommended the breakfast croissant , it was Delicious! Plenty of people work from the cafe, it's a quiet and pleasant place for sure.

Yelp
Dog friendly coffee shop with delicious healthy bites. There is plentiful outdoor and indoor seating. There is even a dog park next to the outdoor seating area. I had the Green Eggs and Ham Toast ($11.50) and BF had the croissant sandwich ($12). The croissant sandwich looked incredible! I enjoyed my toast, it was very unique and crunchy. The Matcha Latte ($5) was nice. I would love to come back and try the acai bowls! Staff were awesome :)

Yelp
I love civil goat coffee! The manor road establishment does not have the actual goat however this settles my dogs who like coming with as I enjoy great coffee, amazing breakfast sandwiches, and relax as I people watch with a book in hand. I could spend the day here if it wasn't for having too many cups of delicious coffee! They have a small tv that plays old vhs tapes to round out the local vibe of hipster cool. They orders arrive promptly as well with a number to secure your order. The staff is pretty cool and well informed in the menu. They do seem to keep staff which is nice for those wanting to be recognized as regulars. Did I say dogs? They are pet friendly and the fuzzy guys really like how the dog bowls quench their thirst and they can relax on the cold concrete floor inside, the wooden patio, or the grass in the small fenced area.

Yelp
Civil Goat is a cute coffeehouse offering breakfast and lunch on Burnet Road near downtown Austin. Yelpers love the lincoln's açaí bowl and avocado toast! Also has a small dog area in the outside sitting areas, as well as indoor seating.

Yelp
I really like this location a lot. The dog park is probably the best thing ever if I'm being honest. Our little guy loves running around and playing ball here. It's a very clean and spacious yard for furry friends. Secured with a gate. Picnic table inside the yard so humans can enjoy their food and beverages. The various coffee we've had is always stellar. I'm partial to a perfect cappuccino and it's pretty darn close here. I've bought the house blend packaged beans as gifts for coffee snobs and they've raved about the flavor!

Yelp
Civil Goat Coffee on Manor is a cute lil coffee shop that is perfect for a study date or quick caffeine boost. The inside was very cute and great air conditioned for a hot summer morning. The food items were pretty substantial as a meal. Definitely more filling than a simple pastry, which they also had. We ended up getting the Cuerny Sam's and found them quite taste. I enjoyed the added honey more than I thought I would. The coffees were also deliciously made and tasted high quality. The only con is it's pretty expensive. Might not come back super hungry as 2 egg sandwiches and 2 coffees were over $40. Looked like a pro tip is to get bird bird across the street and pick up some coffee. The servers were also very nice. One of them complimented my jewelry which was much appreciated. They were quick and efficient. We also beat the rush showing up at 10:30 on a Sunday. Right after we ordered about 20 people formed a line after. Plenty of outdoor space also.

Yelp
I was impressed with matcha latte, pretty nicely balanced! The don't sweeten their matcha so I added the lavender syrup and it was a nice addition. The people I were with had coffee drinks and they liked them as well. The cafe had about 6 or so tables, seemed like a good number of outlets, and had a lot of natural light, so I'll have to come back to read or work. Also they have a lot of outside picnic tables, some in the shade and some in direct sun.

Yelp
Food: The acai bowl was amazing--refreshing, well-balanced, with the right amount of fruits and other extras. The scramble was very well-cooked (fluffy), and the salad was fresh. The bacon is a must--crispy and delicious! The sandwich includes a sweet orange marmalade. Coffee: They know how to make excellent cortados and dirty chai tea lattes. Ambiance: Super chill and great for a simple date. It's a place where you can comfortably bring kids and family. The music is at the right volume, allowing for good conversation. Everything is kept nice and clean, and there is outdoor seating available. Service: The cashiers were very friendly. It is an order-at-the-counter establishment where they bring the food to your table, but there is no traditional table service. Price: Average and competitive pricing. It's not cheap but fair.
google avatar

Annie A.

Yelp
I loved the coffee at Civil Goat! Definitely one of the best vanilla lattes I've tried. Seating inside can be sparse though so I would recommend coming at a less busy time or expect to sit outside. Decor is also super cool inside!
google avatar

Angelica R M.

Yelp
Manor location is best! Good spot for coffee and light breakfast snacks. Nice vibe, chill on out here, doesn't feel as gentrified as palomino either

Emily P.

Yelp
Drove past here and thought it looked too cute to not check out! I was so pleasantly surprised - quintessential Austin quirkiness as this is a house-turned coffee shop. Tons of outdoor seating, a dog park, and indoor seating as well. Coffee was great - got a hot oatmilk vanilla latte and it was lovely. Staff was great and answered our questions, along with getting us our coffee quickly. Will definitely be coming back here!
google avatar

Alexis W.

Yelp
It's a little cozy indoors, but good for conversation or studying/working. The bartop seating has outlets. The window hightop seating offers a nice view and there is plenty of outdoor seating. The croissant sandwiches were delicious-the honey is definitely a nice touch. We didn't get to try the pour over this time but will be back again! Does *not* offer military discount. Does have free wifi. Plenty of free parking.
google avatar

Karen L.

Yelp
We can walk to this cute place so it's a neighborhood favorite. Their açaí bowls are super fresh, my only complaint is it don't LOVE granola, but it's still very tasty. Coffee is good quality, the patio is dog friendly and the service is top notch.
google avatar

Kadeem S.

Yelp
Im not big on coffee but civil goat had a superb English tea that I was able to pair with my chicken biscuit from across the street. The service was great very friendly and the establishment is super dog friendly. Good amount of indoor and outdoor seating. They have a homey 80s/90s interior aesthetic which is fun to hang out in.

Harper D.

Yelp
The most disappointing latte I've had in Austin so far. The staff seemed actively resistant to interaction - avoiding eye contact and showing little interest in engaging. One even awkwardly cut in front of me at the water station without a word. Maybe it was an off day, but the service matched the drink: my vanilla latte tasted like plain oat milk, with no hint of vanilla. I'd recommend heading to Fleet down the street instead.

Jason K.

Yelp
If you find yourself in Austin and you're in the mood for some seriously good coffee in a super chill spot, Civil Goat Coffee is where you wanna be. It's the kind of place where the coffee is strong, the vibe is laid-back, and you might just find yourself lost in conversation with a stranger (or at least with the barista, who's probably your new best friend by the time you leave). The Coffee: First things first--let's talk coffee. This place knows what's up. Whether you're an espresso aficionado or just someone who likes a big ol' cup of something caffeinated to kickstart your day, Civil Goat's got you covered. Their lattes are creamy, smooth, and perfect for sipping while you daydream about life choices (or plan your next adventure, because you're totally caffeinated now). The Cortado? Don't even get me started--it's like the perfect marriage between espresso and milk. That balance? Chef's kiss. And if you're more of the "cold brew, all day, every day" type, their nitro cold brew is smooth and bold, like a liquid hug for your brain. Not into coffee? No problem. They've got teas, oat milk lattes, and seasonal drinks that will make your taste buds do a little happy dance. Seriously, they've got something for everyone here, no judgment if you're just here for the cute aesthetic and a tasty drink. Vibes & Service: Walking into Civil Goat feels like stepping into the cool, artsy cousin's house who's probably got some rad stories about traveling the world. It's cozy but not cramped, minimalist but with enough personality to make you feel like you're in the right place. Exposed brick? Check. Cozy lighting? You bet. Hip-but-not-try-hard energy? Oh yeah, they've nailed it. The mix of chill indie tunes in the background adds to the vibe without being obnoxious. You can actually talk here without shouting over loud music. What a concept. And the staff? Oh, they're legit. The baristas here aren't just skilled in making the perfect pour-over, they're also super chill and ready to chat about your drink choices or recommend something new if you're in the mood for an adventure. You'll leave feeling like you've got a new coffee BFF. Food: Okay, so while this place is obviously all about the coffee, the food isn't something you want to sleep on. Their almond croissant is basically a buttery, flaky hug, and if you're craving something savory, their breakfast burrito has got your back. It's got that perfectly satisfying balance of eggs, cheese, and salsa that makes you think, "Yes, this is exactly what I needed in my life." Not over the top, just solid. Location: Located in the artsy, slightly hip East Austin area, Civil Goat is one of those spots that feels just right for a casual coffee date, a solo study session, or an impromptu hang with friends. There's street parking, but let's be real--you might have to do a little parking scavenger hunt to snag a spot, especially when the place is poppin'. But hey, it's Austin. The hustle is part of the charm, right? Final Thoughts: Civil Goat Coffee is like that cozy little coffee spot you wish you had in your neighborhood. It's got the good vibes, the great coffee, and the chill atmosphere that'll make you want to return even if you live across town. Whether you're a local or just visiting, it's definitely worth stopping by--plus, you can pretend you're an Austin local while you sip that latte. Just don't forget to smile and wave at the goats... because, you know, Civil Goat.

Yelp
The coffee at civil goat is really good. But do not order food. They tend to forget it for 20 minutes or more. Then they are like "oh your food is coming out next" and bring you a toast that has gotten cold and soggy while waiting to be served. And that's a $10 slice of bread with some cheese and ham.
google avatar

Scott M.

Yelp
Pretty cool little neighborhood place.. I don't think it has been open very long. Good selection of snacks, lite bite's and coffee make it a good choice for something different. The flys get pretty challenging outside but I think that is most of texas and not unique to this place. You can sit inside or outside and there is a little grassy area for toddlers to wander around in.

Yelp
Civil Goat Coffee is one of my favorite coffee shops of ALL TIME. I've been to the other two locations multiple times, but you can never have enough. I love Civil Goat because their coffee and food is delicious. My friends make fun of me all the time for liking avocado toast, but sometimes it's made so well that you can't hate on it. Civil Goat makes their avocado toast consistently well. I love the little sprouts for color, and the texture and seasoning is always on point. I've had their breakfast bowl as well, and their soft scrambled eggs are some of the best I've ever had. Coffee-wise, you can't go wrong with any item on the menu. I personally love the London fog latte, chai latte, and iced vanilla latte. The branding is so cute, and all the employees are really nice and helpful. I studied in here for a few hours, but be aware that there aren't many outlets. Definitely charge your electronics before stopping by if you're planning to stay for awhile.

Yelp
Cool place to hang out. Great coffee and nice friendly people. Good music and a cool little TV playing VHS tapes.
google avatar

Yelp
Different type of place but definitely recommend going. Great coffee and great food.
google avatar

Yelp
Solid coffee shop. Simple food menu. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating although it could fill up quickly. Ample parking. Very central with a nice neighborhood feel. Friendly staff.

Yelp
I'm a big fan of the Guadalupe location so I was thrilled when this Manor location opened closer to me. I love both salads that they have and their cold brew is tasty as well (albeit a bit smaller than other places). I prefer their cold brew over the lattes. Plenty of outdoor seating with outlets and shade. Indoor seating fills up quickly.

Jillian P.

Yelp
The food was delicious and coffee was great! Love the small cozy atmosphere. Cuerny Sam is amazing, but can get a little messy if you're trying to eat while you study or work.

Ronald S.

Yelp
Awesome baristas, Awesome coffee. 10/10, love the VHS tv set up. Point break is my favorite movie :)

Jason L.

Yelp
Civil Goat is legit. It's my go to coffee shop since I live nearby. The staff is always friendly, drinks are spot on, and they even play old movies on VHS while you hang out and wait for your drink. Always have enjoyed a caffeine pick me up or bite to eat from this spot.

Sarah G.

Yelp
Really excellent service today. The blonde barista, I think his name was Austin, was super friendly and made me an excellent cortado!!!

Alonzo G.

Yelp
Wowowowoww! First The staff are the most personable people you'll ever meet, very clean and inviting soon as you walk in. And can't go wrong w there breakfast plates always fresh veggies !

Isa D.

Yelp
I love civil goat. Have been going for almost a year now. Food and beverage is always consistent here. Service is great, I love the people who work here. There's always a good vibe with the music, the tv that's always playing, and nice seating. I have nothing but love for this place. Great management, fantastic owners. Please support this local shop it deserves all the praise. Can't thank civil enough for all the yummy espresso and avo toasts :) WORTH THE HYPE

Jose C.

Yelp
Rude employees & terrible waffles! Not only did I wait over 50 minutes for my food but it was completely horrible after I finally got it.
google avatar

Anna G.

Yelp
Loved the service and the food! I'm here to speak to the breakfast sandwich on a croissant pictured below. It was insanely good! I don't remember what it was called. I've been craving it all week since I visited last weekend.

Melissa R.

Yelp
The best iced decaf vanilla latte I've had and it's not even in Seattle! I adore a good latte and these folks nailed it. Robust flavor, great espresso, delicious vanilla.

Kolby D.

Yelp
Civil Goat just out here casually serving the best breakfast sandwich in all of Austin. However you decide to build it, you can't go wrong with the Cuerney.
google avatar

Rob P.

Yelp
I get very excited when there's a new coffee shop in my neighborhood. This location is rather cursed and has been empty for quite a while, so I hope civil goat breaks the streak and stays a while.
google avatar

Mizzu C.

Yelp
Good vibes only. There was so much love in that one cup of cappuccino. Strong wifi. Big desks.

Bella B.

Yelp
I waited 50 MINS for a single Açaí bowl. When I inquired about the extended wait, I was told a "30 minute" queue was normal. A lady who also ordered an açaí bowl received hers at the same time as me, although she ordered 40 minutes past me. Completely unacceptable, and when I commented on the long wait the staff pretended like it was normal.

Chloe K.

Yelp
I got the country ham toast and it was so yummy! Coffee and ambiance is fabulous too!
google avatar

Homer Jay S.

Yelp
nice space. great selection of breakfast-style meals. the scrambled eggs, salads, hash browns, and bacon are particularly good. great coffee. the staff (esp. the cashier) are earnest and nice. one frustration: please don't run out of bacon, or poached eggs, or flatware at 10 am. (they're only open 7 hours -- and yet they can't keep their limited menu items in stock.) even though they close at 3 pm, they stop serving food as early as 230 pm, except on those days when they choose to stop serving food as early as 2 pm. (this is the kind of random, inconsistent, frustrating service you get all over marfa.)

Claren M.

Yelp
Very cute new location. Staff is friendly, coffee is good, cute ambience, and lots of outdoor shaded seating when the weather is good. My caveats are that sitting inside its kind of loud/sound bounces around. There could also honestly be more tables fit inside as well as more outlets for devices. So I'd say right now it's best for hanging out and light work but hard to really set up to get in the zone.

Jason M.

Yelp
Sad I have to give it 4 stars. The quality of their coffee is definitely 5 stars. The lack of enthusiasm shown by their staff is palpable. I inquired into how their cold brew was made and it was like pulling teeth to get any straight answers. Either the hipster baristas didn't know or could careless to engage with their customers. Sad because it was a great spot otherwise. Hence the 4 star review regardless of the 2 stars service. I'll be back and hopefully there are different baristas that are more engaged.

Callie B.

Yelp
Love the fact civil goat is now in cherrywood! This is a cute place to grab a bite to eat or share coffee with a friend. The ambiance is nice for doing work and relatively quiet. The baristas really take care to make good espresso and are friendly. I recommend getting the coconut milk/blueberry chia seed pudding for breakfast! So tasty. Cute deco too and nice out door seating to watch the traffic (people and cars) on manor rd. Highly recommend! Beware of the bees though, lol.

Britni B.

Yelp
obsessed with this place - one of THE best coffee shops in Austin! staff is always so friendly, coffee is always on point, simple yummy menu with reasonable prices, cozy and bright ambiance. great seating inside and out. also very dog friendly, always a plus!
