"The first time we ordered the avocado and crunchy garlic salad at Civil Goat in Cherrywood, we immediately came back the next two days to get it again. Once the staff started to recognize us, we headed to Civil Goat’s two other locations in the Austin area to throw off the scent. It’s a simple salad, mostly made up of arugula and cherry tomatoes with a lemon shallot vinaigrette, but the soft-boiled egg, avocado, quinoa, and crunchy garlic all give it some great texture that makes it feel like a light, but balanced lunch. And if, for some reason, we haven’t already sold you on this salad, Civil Goat also offers a broad menu of toasts, acai bowls, and breakfast plates to accompany the house-roasted coffees and teas." - nicolai mccrary, raphael brion
"The Austin cafe mini-chain uses its own roasts, which can be found at all three of its locations — this in far west Austin near Austin Lake Hills and the other two in North Campus and Cherrywood. But only the Cuernavaca spot is home to the shop’s mascot, Butters the goat. There are indoor and outdoor dine-in areas." - Darcie Duttweiler
"Show up to the original location of Civil Goat out in Cuernavaca and there’s a 90% chance that you’ll see Butters the goat roaming the grounds. Don’t worry, he’s friendly. And if that wasn’t enough to sell you on a visit here—or you happen to be visiting the locations by Campus or in Cherrywood—maybe the small, but well-crafted menu of coffee, espresso, and tea will do the trick. You’re not really here for novelty lattes, you’re just here for a good, reliable cortado or a creamy nitro cold brew. Besides, isn’t the goat novelty enough? " - nicolai mccrary
