CJ's Cafe

I really sincerely hope that the owner sees this.I fell in love with this place more than ten years ago. What happened? I ordered three fried chicken wings with grits and three fried eggs, and a biscuit. I wish I could have made a video, to show how this place gave me a biscuit, that would not even bend. In the pic, zI am literally pressing down hard! Nothing. No give. Like it was microwaved five minutes. Hard as a rock. I literally had to come home, and cook this food to doneness. The grits were not only lumpy, in the lumps was dry grits…they had zero taste, undercooked. I specifically asked for well done eggs, the response from the waitress was overhard, I told her no, well done, meaning yolk done all the way through. She said medium, I said yolk all the way through. I received an over fried egg, yolk still not done. The chicken looked great but tasted like old grease.

Wow, I am not easily emotionally impacted this way, especially while I'm sitting at the restaurant itself. But it's hard not to be. Yes, everyone is friendly, attentive, and genuine. Yes, the place is clean, in fact, spotless. Yes, the food is on point hot and delicious and served fast. All of the basic necessities for a business are there. But the magic that I get the honor of witnessing is the kind that moves me to tears because I know that it is the secret sauce that this business runs on. I recognize it well because it is my business model and motto. Respect and dignity, empowerment, and I development of every single team member. This is what I see and hear while the gentleman who is either clearly the manager or owner is on the spot coaching his team member. And doing it so well that it moves me. I applaud you guys. All of this, while name recognizing his usual clients. I'm sure Mr. Brown appreciates it as much as I do. I once again have to applaud you. Everyone seems to be so proud to work here it makes me want to work, move to California, and work for you.

We stopped here on a rainy day not knowing what to expect.☔ It was bustling like a restaurant you'd see in New York City! 🗽 We were seated immediately even though the place was very full. Lots of activity and friendly faces everywhere. 🙂 We got a fresh juice drinks🍍 and I ordered short ribs which were delicious. 😋 My son ordered machaca breakfast and loved it.🍳 We will definitely come back for the homestyle food when we are in the neighborhood.🏘️

This is the perfect spot for some delicious comfort food. Everything tastes homemade and ingredients are always fresh. The staff is always super friendly and the regulars are like family here. I have brought friends and family here and they all love this spot.

Lovely variety of juices . I didn’t order any food here but the place was packed. The atmosphere was good and service is nice . My green juice was just lovely and they give you 1 cup of your juice (full to the top) and another cup full with ice. Wow thank you .

Chicken wings, waffles, eggs, juice bar You're not going to find a place that does it much better.

I had the Pico Burger (I've always eaten breakfast) and it is off the charts delicious! Good value on top of delicious food CJ's is a gem 💎

Cj's cafe is located in midtown area in a large shopping center so Parking is simple to find The Ambiance when you get in is nothing special to be honest but you have a typical diner The service is pretty friendly they were very attentive and helpful as well The food I got the hard shell tacos because apparently that's what they are known for and man lemme tell you they are so addicting ! Kind of messy but so tasty ! The price point is low to medium but not bad overall check them out if your around the area

I like coming here with my coworkers but it's not my favorite food for breakfast. I would like their veggie omelette more if they chopped the veggies finer. My omelette looked more like a fajita! Our school orders breakfast burritos for the staff sometimes and those are pretty good. Sometimes more potatoes than meat/eggs. The service is a little slow. But they are kind.

3.5 stars is just about right. CJ's has a large menu with enough variety to satisfy everyone, from Mexican to American, to soul food and this is borne out by the diverse crowd of patrons. They also have quite a few juices on the menu if you're into that sort of thing. Breakfast is always a sure bet and the few times I've had their menudo it's been just fine, but charging an extra two bucks to add hominy is *not* cool. Prices are reasonable, portions are generous, and the service is always friendly and attentive. Good, if not exceptional, neighborhood joint.

Ordered CJ's using a 3rd party and it came no issue. Packaged like normal and hot on arrival. The delivery wasn't the issue, but the food was. The Spanish omelette was disgusting. It lacked flavor, just bland thin eggs stuffed with bell peppers and onions. The sauce was watered down and barely there. I paid for American cheese but it was never added. The potatoes again were bland just covered in onions and bell peppers, no seasoning and no flavoring. So disappointing and a waste of money.

Very good place close and convenient kinda high price for some stuff but worth it. It's a better alternative to Denny or IHOP they even have a nice selection of Soul food & Mexican dishes.Nice attentive staff and always happy to plz

HORRIBLE! No English speaking waiters, food is NOT GOOD. They serve soggy food, because their waiter has too many costumers to serve. Out of the whole restaurant (30 + people) it was only 2 waitresses. And only ONE of them barely spoke English.

First time here, I had seen previous reviews and was craving everything so I went for the pork chops and eggs with the side of grits. Pork chops were really good, crispy and full of flavor, the grits were good too and to drink I ordered an iced coffee, not bad. My husband ordered the veggie omelette which was really nothing special and it came with beans and toast, maybe veggie omelette wasn't a good choice but we will definitely come back and try something else. Chicken wings were really tasty too, we will be coming back here soon.

Came in for a quick breakfast, Just me and my laptop. The place has a good family feel to it. Even though they were a lil busy I was able to get a seat right away. The waitress came right over and took my order. I sat and watched everyone that came in was greeted by the staff. The staff is super friendly and professional. Definitely return customers coming back for some good food. The place had groups with as many as 10 people there having breakfast. My chicken sausage meal came out and it was delicious. Just what I needed to get my day started. This is a neighborhood restaurant that I need to start visiting more often.

I was hangry but not too hangry so I settled for a spinach and cheese and onion omelette with potatoes and home fries aka potatoes, CJ's ALWAYS gives excellent service be it the pick location or this LA location. Its always nice and clean in here and they give you prompt service no matter what you order i inhaled my omelette and potatoes at the same time and didn't give them a chance I love coming to this CJ's since it's right down the hill

This location has been here for some years now and has been very consistent with pricing and quality of food and service . They have a wonderful juice bar that's be always fully stocked! Number 3 is my favorite . 3 wings plus fries Or a steak sandwich with fries 10/10 In the mornings it's filled with older people having breakfast it's so nostalgic!

I have now found another favorite diner-style food place in LA! I love the non-descript style inside and out. It's a simple place with simply fantastic-tasting home-style food. I had the catfish dinner with collard greens and black-eyed peas as my side dishes. The fried catfish was light like it was air-fried or something. It sure was good! Collard greens and black-eyed peas were the best I've had. Nice smoky flavor with just the right amount of bacon flavor. Oh, man. I'm getting hungry again just writing this review. My friend had fried chicken wings with a waffle. The chicken was not greasy at all. These guys know how to fry stuff right. That's for sure! Their extensive menu mainly consists of breakfast items, soul food, and Mexican food. They also have a really nice selection of fresh juice drinks they make right there! Can't get any fresher than that! The staff is great. Super nice. Parking is plentiful and free. I'll be back again...and again!!

The food was pretty bad & overpriced. Red snapper was very fishy dry and overcooked, the fries were hard & undercooked.

The few times I came here the food and service has been great. I love ordering the chilaquiles rojos and the smoothies which are really good. A very nice place to eat breakfast :)

This is a quaint Los Angeles neighborhood cafe. The customer service was great. The entire staff is friendly and attentive. Our server checked on us several times to make sure we were pleased with our meal. This restaurant is known for its soul food flavorful breakfast combinations. I'm a very dissatisfied customer!! CJ's did us grimey on the last day of 2023! First off, the wait to pick up my food was an hour. I should've known by the time that things was gonna turn out for the worst, and it did. Look at this breakfast...the potatoes we burned beyond burnt, with absolutely no veggies in them. CJ's, you gotta do better

It's rare when I have the need to write reviews but Terrible food, bad service. HORRIBLE crowd. Never coming here again and warning my friends and family not to come here either.

This establishment has been in my other neck of the woods for several years and they are very consistent. My go to is usually the chicken wings with waffles and grits with the homestyle potatoes or the fried Catfish with scrambled eggs and sourdough toast. This is just the breakfast or brunch spot for this part of Baldwin Hills. They stay busy. I like that they also have a selection of fresh squeezed juices and elixirs. These drinks are amazing! The waitstaff are friendly and punctual people who deliver fast and effortlessly. I mean, they are moving! No slouches over here. I'm also impressed with the back of house. They keep the food coming out HOT! Thank you CJ's cooks ...you guys rock! Thus is a well oiled machine with everyone giving their all. Today, I felt like being a Maverick and I ordered the steak and eggs with onion and cheese. Delicious!!!!! Delicious!!!! Delicious!!! I will continue to enjoy my meals here. I hadn't been here in a while but remembered that I enjoyed my past meal visits. The staff were pleasant and attentive, the place was clean and the other patrons seemed very chilled and satisfied. Parking is pretty easy around CJs. I tried the Watermelon, Strawberry and Mint Juice.... So good and so fresh! I ordered the Pico Burger which I thought was great. The burger patty was "smashed" and well done which was very tasty and how I like it. The Onion Rings were perfectly fried. My wife had a tuna sandwich and had no complaints. I tried some her fries which were fat and juicy in the middle. Prices and portions are good. I'll definitely drop by when I'm back in the area.

Good food good price right in the urban neighborhood that you love what else can you ask for?

Hole in the wall place, cute diner setting. I have ordered from here before, portions are generous. Had their french toast recently, and it was SO good. Also had a chorizo and egg burrito and their breakfast burritos are mostly potato which is fine. This place is also pretty popular weekend mornings so get there early and be prepared to wait. Staff was friendly and i like that i can call ahead and place my order.

Ordered Al pastor Tortas for lunch. Very loaded and delicious . Love the energy here too. The owner was incredibly friendly too. Coming back!

Old school diner the breakfast food was just ok but I was just in the neighborhood and decided to go in I didn't order any of the Mexican food so maybe I will return and try to see how that tastes

Customer service was terrible I felt like I was looked at as a dine and dasher instead of a paying customer. I was only checked on when I ordered my food and when it was check time other than that I was watched from a distance by two Hispanic employees. I ordered chicken and waffles which comes with eggs, but was charged for just chicken and waffles separately they also said on their yelp page that they had vegan options. The only vegan options available are fruit, and when I ask for a to go cup, I only received a cup and had to get my own lid from the top shelf because when I asked for it, the Hispanic employee walked away. I will not be returning the food was okay but the service makes me never want to give them another dollar

I was invited to breakfast. I ordered pancakes and chicken wings. It was delicious as I was eating. I commented about how I enjoyed my chicken wings. I found out they're known for their chicken wings. I can't wait to go back. Service was friendly. It was great.

My wife and I love this place! We went around lunch time, and even though it was very busy and somewhat crowded, the staff is still very attentive to your needs. I wanted something that wasn't actually on the menu, a ground beef burrito with egg and cheese, it was made to perfection, and was delicious! My wife had the waffle with chicken wings and eggs and said it was very good. Whenever we have to go to the CareMore center, we usually come here for a bit to eat, because the food is so good.

I ordered a steak burrito and got bean & rice hardly no meat ! They should be ashame . We order food online trusting these restaurants and they end up giving us whatever they want .

Ordered through Uber eats- the waffle I ordered was good, however, the carnitas torta that was ordered had the smallest amount of meat with a large amount of lettuce in the middle. Plus the banana pudding smelled sour and tasted as if it had gone bad a while ago. Disappointed in more than half of the order.

Good service, good food, and a clean environment. It does get a little noisy as the acoustics bounce the sound around. Still, I would recommend the restaurant. It's a good neighborhood restaurant and the people there are pleasant.

Way better than Roscoes I tell you that. I will be back. It was a cool low key little breakfast spot . Been meaning to check it out. Tasted and thought why did i take so long stopping. And it like i said taste better then Roscoes (at least that's what my son and i said).

I was pleasantly surprised when I had a taste for fish eggs and grit and saw this place. Gave it a try and was satisfied. Fish fried perfectly. I like loose grits a bit more but I was still able to get down with the thick textured grits and they give you plenty. Would I order again? Yes I would.

This is one of the best places to have breakfast! I love getting the pancakes which are so good. The chicken wings are amazing, hot and taste so good. The service is always great, they greet you with a smile and always take excellent care of you.

Food was very good at La Brea location my daughter is vegan so I needed to find somewhere to eat she decided to get some salsa and fell in love with it we went to family house and had salsa chips and margaritas it was a great day

Personally I don't like to leave bad reviews but this place is beyond my belief , order breakfast for me and hubby opened the tray and the stench from cooking on a dirty grill was sickening . Bacon and sausage were over cooked with burnt particles from the grill , eggs one sunny side up other one over easy full of oil again from the nasty grill . Home fries no taste no peppers or onions again taste like dirty grill the grits were undercooked side of links tasted old both of these breakfasts went to trash . Tried eat but when you have food on your fork and the smell of it hits first you can't eat it just disgusting. I hope the manager take note of this perhaps check there cooks because they surely cannot be called "chef's ".

CJ's Cafe The first time I visited your establishment, I was unhappy with the cleanliness of the table condiment bottles. I was in the area and decided to visit a second time. Both times, the food and service were exceptional but, the second visit was even more pleasurable. The management team had taken heed to my first review and corrected the problem. Each condiment bottle on the table was clean. NO stickiness to the touch, nor any dried residue under the top. Much appreciated, I will be back. THANK YOU!!

Went for breakfast everything was good the waiter and the waitress that waited on us was nice and pleasant. The food was good even though they forgot my friends toast. The place is always clean, my friend ordered the banana pudding she didn't like it she said 4 wafers and all pudding

I'm used to coming here and enjoying the food but todays order was a fail. I ordered a breakfast burrito that has home fries, eggs, cheese, salsa, and choice of meat. I chose bacon the 4 burritos I ordered and there was probably "half" of a strip of bacon chopped in there if that, A pinch of cheese, and probably the equivalent of 1/4 of one scrambled egg in the burrito and that's giving extra credit. I just can't believe I paid 35 dollars for 4 potato burritos. I almost didn't come here and since I did, today will be my last visit since there a better place same distance different direction from my house

Came yesterday morning & I'm always skeptical with trying new places . 10/10 from service to the foood. I will definitely be back!

Outstanding restaurant for breakfast, lunch or early dinner. Food is always excellent, service is the best and the ambience is always welcoming friendly and comfortable. American, Mexican and soul food! A real jewel in the city!

Just recently visited this location and usually, it's pretty decent, but on today the service sucked I don't like when people lie to you so you can try it at your own discretion

I've been to CJ's numerous times over the years, but this last visit was horrible. I ordered online for pickup. The female cashier helping me just left her post and never returned. The male cashier that took her place never acknowledged me. He brought up two orders from the counter and set them down. He started helping other people - not once asking my name to see if perhaps that was my order. I was waiting on the bench along with another guy. The cashier told the waiter to ask the guy about his order. Totally ignoring the fact that I've now been sitting there for at least 15 minutes. Finally, after I ask how much longer will I have to wait, the waiter picks up the order that HAS BEEN SITTING NEXT TO THE REGISTER and realizes it's mine. I'm hard-pressed to return because there's no excuse for me not to have been helped sooner.

CJs I would say is your classic Diner experience meaning if it's better in my opinion then a I hop or Dennis. They serve fresh juice you can make up your own or select from their menu. It's a good family spot to just pop into. I been going for years. It's not a fancy place but if you want some hot fresh breakfast or quick lunch it's worth checking out.

If you like comfort food then this is a good place to get it. I went here for breakfast after passing by so much and never knowing it was here for so long. I finally gave in. At the moment there is no dining in but they do have a tent outside where you can sit. Simple enough, the food was good. Service was cool too.
