The 15 Best Restaurants In University City - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"There are a few really solid sit-down pizza places in West Philly, and Clarkville is one of the best. It’s a colorful, two-floor neighborhood spot on Baltimore Avenue that’s good for a casual lunch or dinner with a small group. Everything on the menu is $20 or less, and if you come during Happy Hour (which goes until 6pm on weeknights), you can get $4 beers and $5 wines. So have a few drinks before a night of pizza, shrimp scampi, and pasta and meatballs. " - Candis Mclean, Team Infatuation

The University City Lunch Guide

"There are a few really solid sit-down pizza places in West Philly, and Clarkville is one of the best. It’s a bright, two-floor neighborhood spot on Baltimore Avenue that’s good for a casual lunch with a small group - pretty much everything on the menu is $15 or less. During lunch hours, you can order pizza by the slice for just $2. And they have a special for kids under 12 years old where they offer a mini-pizza and a milk carton for $6, which is great if you have small children or can pass for a particularly large 12-year-old." - sydney mcelwee

Clarkville - Review - West Philadelphia - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"Clarkville is a colorful neighborhood pizza spot in West Philly that’s good for a casual lunch or dinner. Everything on the menu is $15 or less, and if you come during Happy Hour (which goes until 7pm on weeknights), you can get a whole pizza for $7. Or if you’re under 12 (or, more likely, babysitting someone that’s under 12), they’ll give you a pizza and a milk carton for $6." - Sydney McElwee

As soon as i walked in they told me it would be a 45 minute wait yet I overheard them telling others it would be a 10 minute wait. Then the host/waiter asked me what I wanted and didn’t even give me a menu. I saw one of the waiters running around and asked her if they had any mock-tails or 0% Beers or Wine and she said no and told me they had soda and to check over at the wall…and walked away…She never said anything else to me. I watched the initial host greet, sit, offer drinks, have casual conversation, and deliver food to multiple people and not once did he acknowledge me until the pizza was almost ready and even then no one offered me a glass of water. Many people came in after me and got their pizzas and food before me after I watched the host/waiter take their order. Later on, he did apologize for the quality and lack of service. I explained to him that I’ve ordered from them on Door Dash and loved the “Peppe Le Bleu” pizza and wanted to simply experience it fresh out of the oven. The experience was pretty disheartening but I’ll accept the fact that maybe everyone was flustered and potentially understaffed…so I appreciate the apology but still needed to be transparent on my experience. When I walked in there were many open seats inside and outside, so I’m not really sure why they told me before I even got a menu that it would be a 45 minute wait, especially when others came in after me and got their stuff before me. Outside of the bad service, the “Peppe Le Bleu” pizza that I ordered was AMAZING and hands down the best rendition of a Pepperoni Pizza I’ve had in West Philly…Safe to say, if I ever eat from there again it’ll be ordered on a delivery app rather than dining in.

Didn’t want to write a negative review but felt we should give some feedback. $24 and change for this 😞 We ordered a large and this is what we were given. Didn’t take a photo at the beginning because I wasn’t planning on writing a review but we were so displeased eating it that I decided to take this photo to share. Dough was still chewy, not cooked enough. This is supposed to be a loaded veggie pizza. We asked for real (dairy) cheese when we ordered, were surprised to find a few shavings of parmesan cheese. We called to ask where the mozzarella was and were told that only comes with the vegan/vegetarian mozzarella option. What? This is a vegetarian pizza. That was not communicated to us when we ordered. No apology given for not clarifying when we ordered. Or about not putting all the greens on one side as we had asked so that my grandfather could eat it. The menu isn’t clear. Service could be friendlier and more attentive. Felt like they were skimping on ingredients and the flavor was not good. I had a few good bites of eggplant and broccoli rabe. If we were in the restaurant we would have sent it back. (My aunt said definitely send it back. Writing on behalf of my family lol.) Honestly I would be embarrassed if I had made this for a family dinner.

Google
Loved the service and staff, got a Pliny the elder pint surprisingly when I stopped in to check it out (limited availability obviously) and I ordered a south Philly sandwich which is a roast pork... Smells amazing but when I opened the box, it's literally half a sandwich for $15... Needs to be advertised as a half hoagie roll for future reference, otherwise great place(just need to order 2 of whatever sandwich you order 😂)

Google
First an order of 4 pack of beers, and no bag! How do you expect people to walk the street with no bag? Customer service: be nice if you have no customers, you don't make money. I don't like to pay and beg. Before the name was The Wursthouse no change. It's nice to be kind to the customers. I just find another place to go.

Google
The pizza and salad were pretty good. They seem to have a good selection of craft beers. Unfortunately the vegetarian carbonara was terrible. The pasta was extremely over cooked and mushy. I would avoid all the pasta on the menu, but I think the main draw here is the pizza anyway. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible via a ramp which is great. However most of the seating is bar stools at the bar and around the windows. If you’re disabled, call the restaurant first to see if normal dining tables are available.

Had a late lunch and sat outside. Great location, right across from the park and next to a train stop. Lots to see in terms of people watching. The pizza was cooked perfectly and came out quickly. Lots of vegan and vegetarian options to choose from!

Google
I’d give this a 5/5 for the pizza but the other dishes were disappointing (2/5 max) but -1 star only seeing as pizza is their main thing. I got the Johnny Hots pizza and that was excellent. Great flavors and the crust was perfect to my liking - chewy and fluffy! The peppers were actually spicy (yay) and the pork was good too. I also got the hot chicken salad and that was pretty bad. Way too much dressing, very very greasy chicken, and absolutely NO spiciness. I’d go back for the pizza, for sure, but don’t get the hot chicken! My friends got the hot chicken sandwich and the sriracha honey pizza and they loved the pizza and said that the sandwich was ‘good.’

Google
A wonderfuld dining experience! Our server, Ethan, was by far the most hospitable I have encountered in a long while. We stopped here for lunch on the recommendation of a friend during our visit to CHOP. The food was so fresh, and completely different than your typical pizza joint. There is indoor and outdoor seating, weather permitting.

Yelp
Best pizza spot in west philly! We LOVE the pizza here and also the trivia night on Monday is so fun. Their quizzo format is great with a variety of categories, a music round, and a great host. I die for the Honey Pie and the Moussaka - we usually go back and forth between those and they're both so good. We switched it up last time and got the Peppe le Bleu and that was great too. The pizza is good because it's got an amazing crust, and they do an amazing job of cheese to sauce to ingredients ratio. It always comes out melt in your mouth hot with the best texture. If you're not feeling pizza, the meatballs are good, too. The service both at the bar and at the tables is always prompt and friendly. Definitely my choice pizza spot in this part of town.

Yelp
Came here on a nice sunny day during St. Patty's Day weekend, so we got seated outside. Our waiter was very friendly and checked in with us frequently. I enjoyed the pizzas and thought they were very flavorful, and I liked the unique selection that they offered. I thought the pizzas were well cooked too, making for a nice base and crust. My one thing is that I thought the pizzas were a bit pricey for what they were. Otherwise, they were great! I like that they have the "community pie," which is rotating. Since we were there on St. Patty's, the community pie was themed for the holiday and we got one of those. We also got the Danger Pie and the Honey Pie -- I recommend these, they were great!

Yelp
Came here with my family to get some dinner and drinks. I ordered the duck gnocchi. The menu said crème sauce but the gnocchi was cooked through and a little dry. The flavor always great and the duck was cooked nicely. I would order it again. My family got cheese pizza and one review was, "it's edible." Another person got a roast beef dish which was pretty spicy. They didn't have a Chardonnay so I ordered a tequila drink which was tasty. The seating area is small but had enough tables for at least 4 parties. There is a bar on the first floor and a second floor but I didn't visit upstairs. For the area, there aren't many sit down restaurants so I guess it is one of a few that can host a larger party. The waitress was friendly and the vibe was very casual.

Yelp
No complaints really. We had a late lunch on a rainy day and were the only 2 people there. The service was good. The food came out quickly. I sampled some of my sister's pork sandwich, and while that wasn't anything remarkable the honey, bacon, and brussels pizza we had was very good. The highlight though was dessert. We ordered the pizza bites that they sprinkle toasted coconut on and serve with salted caramel. Those things were addictive. Worth a try if I'm ever in the area again-- and I am quite often.

Yelp
The pizza is horrible and the staff are rude. I use to be a loyal customer until I noticed that the pizza doesn't taste good anymore. The staff use to be professional but my last visit was met with rudeness.

Yelp
I came here as it had been recommended by others for excellent pizza, and it seems like a popular place in the neighborhood. Ambiance: Small, cute place in the neighborhood with mostly wooden design - a little bit of a "pizza cabin" feel. We sat downstairs and didn't get to see upstairs to see what it might be like for a large group to come visit, but plenty of 2 and 4-person tables available downstairs. Looks like they also have some random board games, although I didn't see anybody playing any. Service: Very friendly staff, quick, no complaints. Food: I'm a vegetarian, so enjoyed one of their vegetarian dips and pizza. - Tzatziki Dip: Delicious and would definitely get again! It was this creamy sauce with touches of freshness with plenty of sun dried tomatoes and topped with crunchy roasted garbanzo beans. It was a sizable portion and served with some seasoned flatbread. Only improvement would be if the bread come out warmer/hot in the plate. - Loaded veggie pie: I enjoyed the crust and base of the pizza, and it was nice that it came out fresh and hot. It was lighter on the cheese, so don't recommend this one if that's what you're looking for, mostly a red sauced pizza. The sauce was on the sweeter side topped with eggplant that was quite soft, sweet peppers that appeared to be pickled, and broccoli rabe that was fibrous and a bit bitter depending on the piece. The pizza was overall quite underwhelming from my expectations. The size of the pizza was good for the price. Although I didn't love the pizza, I did enjoy the other food a lot, and I would really like to go back again to try a different pizza.

Yelp
My fiend had her birthday party here for the past two years and there's not secret why! The food is amazing and the service, especially for an event is great!

David H.

Yelp
We booked a retirement function here. A written quote was not provided. I left a deposit. The afternoon before the event I confirmed the event and received an email with the balance to be paid that evening. At the end of the event the balance was $300 higher than listed in the email. The manager was not on the premises and not available by telephone. The food for the evening included vegetables and hummus, two salads, and pizza. Everyone had 1-2 drinks. Cost: $85 per head. Value for money? You decide.....

Yelp
Terrific food terrific service! Loved the vegan choices and can't wait to return! Near to Penn campus

Yelp
The pizza selection is meh, same as the service. Our waitress didn't split the bill as we asked because she said one of the credit cards was too dark in color to see in the billfold *eyeroll.

Yelp
I've decided to give Clarkville 3.5 stars based on consensus of everyone I have been there with, not just my biased opinion. In my biased opinion, Clarkville deserves 4.5 stars, because I'm lactose intolerant but I love pizza, and they have just about the best pizzas with non-dairy cheese. 2/3 of their menu, they can make them either vegetarian or vegan version, as well as gluten/dairy/lactose-free friendly. I've had the buffalo chicken pie with vegan mozz, and loaded veggie pie, both were fantastic and worth every penny, in my opinion. My friend who had the Sal's famous pie said it was very good, while another friend who had meatballs said it was mediocre. Both said they were overpriced. Their apps are delicious, but a little overpriced. Happy Hour would be a good time to get them. The menu is small but very solid. That goes for both food and drinks. They have 10 beer on tap that covers all styles, and I could always find one or two that I love. Service has been always good with me, but I tried to avoid weekend dinner rush. Clarkville is not the best "pizza and beer" spot in the area, but they're special enough for me that I will keep recommending it.

Yelp
On one of the dying days of summer, my companions and I gave Clarkville a shot. With the sun fading quickly, we entered an even darker room on the second floor. Under the dim lighting, we had ordered the Honey Pie, the Lamb Pie, and the Danger Pie. Warning, you might be addicted to their unique flavors and impeccable tastes. Unsurprisingly, the hot honey on the Honey Pie floods your mouth with a party that gets started with the complement of bacon. Salt, sweet, and savory flavors, making for the banger of the century. The Lamb Pie brings lovers of sheep-based meats an eventful and fan-favorite pizza that will satisfy those wool animal cravings. The Danger Pie was dangerously mediocre - any mozzarella pizza will give you the same satisfaction that you would get here. When the meal had approached its end, one thing was glaringly obvious: a large stack of wide crusts sitting on my friends plate. While it was a waste to leave food unfinished, I completely understood; the crust is threateningly wide, leaving you with way less toppings (which are weirdly all stuck near the middle) and overall enjoyment of an otherwise flavorful pizza. If you're craving something better than your average joe &pizza or my favorite, the glorious Dominos, you're in luck. Clarkville is the place to go (as long as you aren't countin the carbs).

Yelp
The only reason I gave this place 4 stars and not 5 was because the service was a little lacking, I think it was likely because of the holiday week and a busier weeknight crowd though. This pizza was amazing, I need to go back and try multiple others on the menu. The caesar salad was so good despite my concern about walnuts and pickled onions being featured ingredients, don't think twice about getting it (and for what it's worth the large portion on the salad was very big!). Wish the cauliflower was in smaller pieces for the dip but the flavor was spot on, and the bread that came with was . Will definitely be back soon to try more pizzas! UPDATE: Ordered to go and had a great experience, this place is great. Pizza was !

Yelp
Uh oh. Sometime after my last visit and before last night they changed their large salad to be the size of their small and they did not change the pricing. Yikes. That's not a good look. Pizza is still the same. Pretty mediocre crust with poor topping placement. I don't know if I'll be coming back here.

Yelp
I got the pasta with chicken and vegetables and it was delightful. It was a pretty good twist of an alfredo and seasonal vegetables. The noodles were cooked to perfection. The staff was very kind and accommodating.

Yelp
My recent visit to Clarkville took a deeply unsettling turn, primarily due to an encounter with the owner. Instead of the expected hospitality, I was met with blatant disrespect and an unfortunate assault on my knowledge. What compounded this distressing experience was the owner's alarming state of inebriation, making the encounter all the more uncomfortable. The owner's inappropriate behavior included not only disrespecting my knowledge but also crossing personal boundaries by inappropriately asking for my number. Such actions are not only unprofessional but also deeply disconcerting for any patron. It's disheartening to witness such disregard for professionalism and customer boundaries. I sincerely hope that Clarkville reevaluates its standards to ensure a safe and respectful environment for all patrons. No one should endure such uncomfortable situations, and it is crucial for an establishment to prioritize the well-being and comfort of its customers. food was food.
google avatar

Shannon W.

Yelp
Their pizza is phenomenal but don't sleep on that hummus. It's got olives, crispy chick peas. I'm never going to forget it.
google avatar

Aimy T.

Yelp
Ignore the bad reviews. I'm glad I did. Every time I've been here the service has been on point and the food is awesome. You can't go wrong with any of their sandwiches. I haven't made it through all the pizzas yet but their summer veggie is my current favorite (asparagus, Brie, sundried tomato, hot honey). I also have a deep appreciation for any place that tops their pizza with shiitake mushrooms. Crust is crispy with big air bubbles but soft on the inside. There's plenty of space for groups including the 2nd floor and random board games if you plan to stay for a while.
google avatar

Jessica S.

Yelp
Am so confused by the bad reviews for clarkville! This is hands down my fav pizza ive tried in philly -- the crust is delicious and has that deep wood fired taste and the toppings are all so delicious and savory. Always a fun vibe to come eat here! The kale white pizza is to dieeeeee for and i love the drinks and apps. U can really taste the quality in the ingredients -- all the veggies r so fresh
google avatar

Akilah S.

Yelp
Great pieces. This is not your traditional piece of shop. I had the meatball pizza. It was fantastic! Katy was nice...
google avatar

Ray L.

Yelp
The Mac and cheese I have is just disappointing. The cheese should be rich, toasted, creamy, and full of texture, but here it's watery, bland, and feels like coming out from a microwave in a huge bowl. It also costs 20 for that.
google avatar

Nancy D.

Yelp
I believe this place still exists because of the bar. I am beyond disappointed in the food and service, and I only ordered takeout.
google avatar

Yelp
As a lover of pizza, I've wanted to try Clarksville for quite some time. It was Halloween night and we wrapped up trick or treating right across the street and decided to dine in. Clarksville is on the small side, but its a chill place. I wasn't expecting the pizzas to be in the $17 price point, or that it would take 45 minutes to receive food. For a 45 minute wait, the pizza was ok compared to all the pizza spots in West Philly. Clarksville is going for a lowkey gourmet pizza spot, but is lacking some finishing touches. The crust is good, but I didn't care for the actual texture. My daughter's pepperoni pizza was great, but I didn't care for the veggie pizza my wife ordered. It was loaded with too much of one veggie and not much variety. The manager gave us a donut hole inspired dessert dish with a caramel dip with coconut shavings and i was fantastic. I would def go again to ry a non-pizza dish on a less busy day.
google avatar

Lily S.

Yelp
The pizza here is consistently excellent. If you like salty savory combinations I highly recommend the hot honey Bacon pie and the meatball pie with carm onions. The prices are fair and they have a happy hour, which is not the same for other places in the area post pandemic (ahem! Dock st! *cough*), Service is always friendly and warm although sometimes questionable, pies are crisp fresh and flavorful with fantastic crust. Beer and wine list is solid though they do not have a full bar or a liquor license for real deal cocktails. A couple criticisms; they could benefit from cleaning their draft lines. Sometimes beers taste 'off' there. The prices are a little bit high for West Philly. The snack cheese plate is totally random, not cohesive and could be done a lot better, with a nicer cheese than smoked Gouda. For some reason the inside to me feels brand new hermogenically new, especially for West Philly which has a lot of grit, charm, character and spaces that feel uniquely worn in. The layout the floor space and tables feels for some reason to me, awkward. Whenever I've been inside to dine (2-3 times in past month) they really do keep the thermostat pretty chilly, like keep your coat on chilly. And the metal chairs are cold at first and uncomfortable to sit on for long periods of time. That being said, the food is bomb.
google avatar

Melissa M.

Yelp
Pros- friendly and attentive server! Yummy honey pizza pie! Outdoor seating on a nice day was great! Cons- the pizzas are small! Not even 8 slices a pie! There are so many fluff fees- we were charged an additional alcohol tax and fees for it paying with cash! What should have been a cheap happy hour dinner for our family turned out to be kinda pricey! We won't come back because fluff fees feels slimy.
google avatar

Yelp
I've been to Clarkville at least three times by now with a different group of people -- and each time, everyone loves it. The pizzas are all so good. I've had the Honey Pie and Johnny Hot pizzas. The Honey Pie has a sweet kick to it with the roasted onions and sriracha honey. You can't go wrong with the Honey Pie. The Johnny Hot has a bit more spice to it (but not super spicy). This is great for those who want some meat in their pizza. I've also had their appetizers -- the hummus tapande. The hummus portion is very generous and the pita is thick and warm. I highly recommend this place to families or friends for a casual lunch. I think each pizza can serve around 2.5 people, it would be great to come with a big group and try out different pizzas altogether. If the weather is great, I highly recommend sitting outside! Sometimes a jazz band places right outside the place and it's a great ambiance.

Emma S.

Yelp
we got the hot honey pizza and caeser salad to go! the food was excellent and prepared right when they said it would be! great place to go for a casual bite!
google avatar

Fahad S.

Yelp
Really good pizza. The dough and flavor combos are amazing and the sriracha honey is a must try. Only downside is that it always takes a bit longer than you'd expect for a pizza. The salads are also nice but had a fairly sketchy incident the other night where we ordered a watermelon salad only to basically receive a Caesar with watermelon on top. It seemed like they had made the wrong one but then realized and instead of fixing it just dumped the watermelon on top. Only issue is that it was not only missing half the stuff but also had walnuts, which the person at my table who ordered it is allergic too. The waiter was apologetic and had the salad remade which turned it into a completely different salad confirming our suspicions (great salad tho) however this was a pretty sketchy experience and could have gone really bad very easily

Yelp
A charming little pizzeria in west philly, right next to clark park. Seems like a go-to spot for the neighborhood, where people can come, relax, have a cold drink and eat some great pizza on a beautiful day. There are some curiously named pizza's, and some that seem quite inventive as well. We went for a "Danger" pizza, and it was indeed dangerously good. Thin crust, wonderful flavor, good ratio of sauce, bread, toppings. The crust was wonderful, nice and chewy with a solid bottom. It also seemed like they make their own cheese in house! The dessert donuts were also excellent. Like nice little pillows dusted with coconut (not too strong for you anti-coconut folk) and a wonderful caramel dip. It's a great part of the neighborhood, and looking forward to coming here more, especially all the recommendations others have given!

Peter V.

Yelp
I always liked this place and me and my family have been good customers to them. Tonight I sat down and had dinner. When I got my bill there was extra charges for paying with a card. They legit added like 5% to everything. In case you don't know, it is not the customers job to pay your vendor fees. Look at their menu online- it doesn't say anything about that extra card fee anywhere. They may have hidden it in small print somewhere on the menu- I don't know and honestly don't care. Dinner was good- it was. But I will not be bringing them any more of my money. That is shady and whack business. It's one thing to give a discount for using cash, but a hidden fee at a sit down restaurant for using a card? Nah. Bye Clarksville. Bye.

Ayannah K.

Yelp
Neighborhood favorite! The Buffalo cauliflower (with regular cheese, not vegan) is my go-to. Their food is always fresh. Absolutely one of my go-to pizza spots in the West Philly.
google avatar

Charlie H.

Yelp
Really, really good pizza spot. I am trying a vegan diet, and this place has so many options its lovely. Whatever you do DONT eat outside unless you have bug spray. Those mosquitoes ate more of me than I ate pizza.

Ashley H.

Yelp
LOVE Clarkville! This is our new date night spot. Pizza is phoenomenal and the prices are even better. Our favorite is the Caprese Pizza. We also love the Tzatziki dip. Lastly, the servers are super friendly. Can't wait to come back!

Peggy P.

Yelp
Don't be fooled that this is 'nice' business. They choose the money over their loyal customers when given the opportunity. Had a reservation for post graduation celebration and was kicked to the curb for a larger party. They should offer reservations if they are not going to honor them. oh..but we were offered to cut the graduation short, leave early to get to restaurant for early dinner and fast exit!!

Yelp
Clarkville is a quaint little pizza shop at the corner or Clark park that pumps out some solid pizza and other snacks. Stopped by with my girlfriend for a quick Sunday afternoon meal and enjoyed their honey pie as well as the pan seared oyster mushrooms from the appetizer/small plates menu. The honey pie was baked to a perfect crisp and not at all burnt, with a nice balance of honey and hot sauce. Bacon was generously sprinkled all over adding a nice saltiness, although there could've been a bit more salty/savory flavor throughout the pizza to complement the honey sweetness. The oyster mushrooms, however, were the surprise star- perfectly seared and tender with tons of garlic flavor and a hint of tartness from the red wine to complement the natural, super savory flavor of the mushrooms. I couldn't get enough! Although I didn't try any, they did have a decent beer selection that I'd be down to come back and try along with their other specialty pies.

Yelp
Dine-in experience 5 stars, take-out experience 1 star. Passed by this place so many times and finally got a chance to try it tonight. We ordered Italian pizza with pickled onion ranch dip. It was DELICIOUS! I love their thin and crispy crust. And NOT burnt!! (Many places make their thin crust burnt, and this place really knows how to make their pizza). The ranch dip is super creamy and tasty, and highly highly recommend it! They have roughly 10 different pizza selections range 13 to 16 bucks, all unique flavors. HOWEVER, a couple days after, I decided to order take out from this place since I was in a rush and the experience was TERRIBLE. I was standing by the entrance for at least 10 mins before someone come to help me. The bar tender just ignored me while I was standing. The server forgot to give me the ranch dip despite me confirming with her so many times on the phone!!!! Also the sausage and veggie on the pizza was not cut, rather it was a bunch of huge chunks that got thrown on the pizza!!! Crust was not crispy. And the server didn't tell me on the phone that they do NOT accept discover card, so I had to run back home to grab another card. Additionally, they also charge EXTRA money for take out (they said it was for the box). Ever since then, I have never come back to this place. I would say come to dine in ONLY, NEVER EVER take out here!!!!

Yelp
Pretty cool spot. Walked right in, sat down and got served right away. Pizza was good. There is inside and outdoor seating. It sits right on the corner across from Clark Park and u can see the park from the windows.

Yelp
Decided to check this place out after visiting the markets at Clark Park. Ended up dining in, since there was a long wait for takeout (due to a large catering order they were working on). Service was good. The veggie pizza I ordered missed the mark for me. The oil on it (to top it off?) overpowered the other flavors. I would return to try other pies.

Yelp
I finally made it to Clarkville & I am glad I did! I used to live in the neighborhood many years ago and this corner spot was a popular pizzeria joint called the Wurst House! So, maybe this corner is a lucky location because Clarksville has that same magic and good food! I was drawn by the sign outside that stated $2 slices (count me in...lol)! It was crowded, so I decided to sit at the bar. I reviewed the nice locally stocked draft list and had a few while I ordered my food! As I sat and was making my observations-I decided to have the braised meatballs (good call) w/a slice of Sal's Famous! These were both delicious-I was full off the slice and a few brews-but the taste of the meatballs in that AMAZING SAUCE made it difficult to stop eating them! The only reason I am not giving 5-Stars is that I had to initiate off of my orders with the wait staff and I was sitting at the bar? Although the establishment was busy-how do you overlook the service of the patrons at the bar? Overall, quality food at Clarkville-I would recommend and I'll be back!

Yelp
My team ordered out for lunch here and we loved our meal. The only downfall is that the pizzas are a little small in size. We tried the danger pie and the honey pie and both were so good but the honey pie really wowed me. Would highly recommend it to anyone! We also got the large Caesar salad which uniquely had walnuts in it but it was a nice touch. The salad was really good! When I went to pick up the order, the ambiance of the place looked cool too. Would definitely order from here again and love to sit down and do HH.

Yelp
A fine place to go and eat pizza. Or salad. Or both. I've tried the Danger Pie and found it fine. Just a pizza; nothing life changing. The Honey Pie is my favorite followed by the Potato Pie. Big plus for Clarkville-unlike many pizza joints both humble and upscale, they don't burn the pies here. Not a single charred spot. The crust is on the crisp side but not so much that it tears the hell out of your soft palate and every slice is good all the way to the crust. You can actually eat the whole slice, and this statement is coming from a person who can rarely stand to finish pizza crust. The pies stand up to the toppings and won't give you that sad, flaccid hang when you pick up a slice to eat. There are some interesting ciders on the menu if that's your idea of a good drink with a pizza. I don't care for cider or beer, but in my mind, pizza pairs best with beer and they have a reasonable selection here. Any salad item on the menu is never a bad choice. The caramelized golden beets are subtle so if you are beet averse, these don't taste like dirt as beets often do. They come resting on a garlicky yogurt sauce you will be using any uneaten crusts to wipe off the plate. The upstairs is a nice space for eating with a friend if you want to have a conversation. Downstairs is great for dining with a group. Either way, this is an unpretentious spot adjacent to Clark Park that makes very good pies. I always find the staff here earnest, helpful and pleasant. What I find even more pleasant is ordering something to go then dining at lovely Clark Park, right across the street. Good pizza and good people watching-plein air. Always a great combination.

Yelp
Went and got a quick bite with my daughter. Service was fast and friendly. Had the hummus app, very tasty. Ordered a buffalo chicken pizza and the sriracha honey bacon pizza. The Buffalo was tasty but the sriracha honey was fantastic! A perfect blend of heat, sweet and savory! Highly recommend a visit to Baltimore Ave in University City for this treat.

Yelp
You can only pass a place that says Pizza Beer Wine in the windows so many times before checking it out. We ordered a white pizza and a danger pie to go. The pizza here is pretty darn good. The crust is thin, yet supportive. The olive oil they brush the pizza with is really tasty. Two pizzas was a bit ambitious for my wife and I but we greatly enjoyed leftovers for lunch the next day. It didn't seem like they had all of their beer and cocktails going and none of their current selection really spoke to us as we prefer IPAs and were curious about the Tequila Mockingbird. They only allow one customer inside for pickup at a time during the pandemic so be sure to call ahead to order.

Yelp
I'll admit I haven't been here post-COVID but I wanted to leave a review for one of my favorite restaurants in West Philly. They do an Italian-style wood-oven fired pizza, so thinner crust with a nice char around the edge. I've tried several of the pizzas here and have yet to be disappointed. Make sure to ask what special they have going on that day! I'd say the portion is good for 2 people to split one pizza, though I usually like to get one pie each so we can bring home the leftovers. By far one of the biggest perks is that Clarkville has great vegan options as well! So I can come here with my vegan friends and know that they'll still have delicious options to choose from. I myself sometimes crave the tofu ricotta pie over the traditional options. There's plenty of space in the restaurant, two floors and outside seating. The ambiance is casual but intimate enough to be a cute date spot too. Decent drinks and some happy hour specials. All in all, a solid restaurant that I find myself going back to regularly.

Yelp
Yummy solid pizza spot! They have good happy hours, which generally feels harder to find in WP, and yummy pizzas. My favorite specialty pizza is called the honey pie, which mixes both savory and sweet to create a culinary delight! I also enjoyed their brussel sprouts, although I recall it being slightly more burnt than I like. All in all, it's a nice spacious location, with both indoor and outdoor seating. I love that it's suitable for a variety of occasions, mostly casual but also got some mood ambiance in the evening.

Yelp
I've spent the last ten years in Brooklyn so my upscale pizza meter is a bit skewed- Pizza Moto, Barboncino, Robertas- now these are amazing brick oven fancy pizzas. And they're worth the $17-20. Clarkville is fine, but not in the same league. The pizzas cost $18 with tax but they're small and just dont have the same quality- dough has less flavor, aren't cooked as well and the toppings are just okay. C'mon Clarkville- up your game and give west philly the fancy pizza we deserve!

Yelp
Great pizza! Ok, the tomato one was decent - the pizza crust was cripsy and the margherita cheese was really good, but the pizza's tomato sauce was basically the only other thing on the pizza so I wished there was more. The honey pizza my friend got was amazing and I want to come back solely to eat it again. It was sweet but great; maybe I'm just a sucker for sweet pizza (I love pineapple pizza).
