"Classic Cars West is a vintage car dealership in Oakland where Hella Vegan Eats has been operating for the past three years. The restaurant is leaving the location due to irreconcilable differences with the dealership's owner, Michael Sarcona. Sarcona wants to take over the kitchen operations himself, having hired a new chef to serve vegan food starting March 1, along with vegan gelato from Kokolato." - Janelle Bitker

Umm...this space is awesome and I want other people to know how cool it is. I've been on the hunt for interesting bars in Oakland since recently moving here, and this will definitely be one of my regular spots. Not only is the bar and beer garden soso cute, but the cocktails are good, they offer cheap beer and double as a pop up shop for local artists and a gallery space. The beer garden is super spacious and full of beautiful graffiti and greenery and there's ping pong! Oh and there's also cool vintage cars located throughout the gallery space with a small vintage pinball section if you're into that :)

Google
Mixed feelings. Who could not like vintage cars, funky country music, craft beer and a beer garden. Vegan food? Sorry I'm not hungry. There is a management problem though. I waited interminably to get a beer at the bar with no one saying boo! Finally figured out on my own that I had to stand in a long line with only one slow stoner taking all the orders for food and beer on a busy Saturday. Don't they want our money? A total bottleneck for cash flow. Plenty of lithesome white girls delivering food, but only one space cadet taking orders and money. I went out to sit in the sun but that's a cover charge. Came back to the bar inside to hear the music. No cover inside. There's a beer bar outside but it's not used. Hey listen up! You want to make more money, hire more people to take our money!

Google
Cool cars and art with a nice patio. Some pinball machines and a ping pong table are also nice perks, but bring quarters because they don't have a change machine and the bartenders didn't want to make change. The most they would break was one dollar. The barkeeps were not the friendliest and seemed almost annoyed to make drinks. They also ran out of ginger beer on a Friday night at 9pm, which is on tap and part of one the signature cocktails on the drink menu. It all felt really sloppy, like the staff just didn't care and would rather not be working. With so many great options in the area I wouldn't bother to come back.

Had a disappointing experience with Michael S at classic cars west. I was the high bidder on a Mercedes e63amg on bring-a-trailer that he had listed, but I was below the reserve, after the auction ended he reached out to see if we could make a deal, I raised my offer another 5% but it wasn't good enough. About a week later I circled back as I was about to pull the trigger on a different car and was wondering if there was a common price we could agree on. He never bothered returning my text, would have taken about 20 seconds to say "sure lets talk" or "sorry we are working with another buyer now" but instead he decided to not respond...just a lame, non-professional way to treat anyone... Update-and the response below to this review is fiction...after seeing this review he finally responded... with a curse/insult filled text to me that is unfit to repeat here...not a lot of character there...

Google
Not as many cars as expected, but with more murals and art. Pretty nice DeLorean and vintage Jaguar racer. Pleasant outdoor patio with lots of tables and succulents. Beer selection was decent; about 8 taps that probably change frequently. A few more taps outside that, I presume, start working when it gets busy. Hella Vegan food on site.

Google
Love this spot for the atmosphere, cars, crowd and variety. I don’t personally love vegan food but I like that they have it since it can cater to anyone in your party - no one is left out of getting food here

Maureen Borja

Google
Good beer and great vegan food in an interesting gallery space! Close to tons of other galleries and shops as well. Great overall location

Dean B.

Google
This spot is great. I come by usually to get food at the Hella Vegan Eats spot they have. Lots of space to sit and chill inside and outside.

Yelp
I'm writing this after the regional Burning Man party held in Classic Cars West. The interior space is beautiful, the cars on display - which span the decades - supercharged conversations even among those who don't love cars, the bar was enjoyed, and the outside space was just perfect for a social gathering. Nice staff, near mass transit, and comfy; we liked CCW.

Yelp
MICHAEL SARCONA: of classic cars west In our words verbatim. Copy & pasted Note: The words I post here will be (ME) the customer, and (HIM) the man paid a premium 4 his expertise. Aug 24th 9am(ME) I'm glad it's finally posted. It looks like the passenger seat has brown fading on it because each shot seems to show what looks like maybe the sun hitting it from a certain direction, but someone may think its damaged, can we get a few more pictures that show the seats in a better light? Aug 24th 10:30am (HIM)I will take more pics on friday. Aug 24th 2:30 pm(ME) There is another person claiming that there is a quarter sized ding of some sort on the passenger side front quarter panel I don't see it. But I think answering this commenter as soon as possible would be good and to alert them you will be taking more pics or if you would submit a video of a walk around detailing up close the whole vehicle would be good. Aug 24th 6:30pm HIM)done, it does look like a tiny dong there but I will take more pics/video on friday Aug 27th 3pm (me)Hi Michael I don't see the new pictures you said you would take on Friday. Did you take the pictures? This small ding you said you were going to review on Friday to verify it's presents. I had asked if you could please take a video of the vehicle, (a walk around) and post it. Every day is important when there's only seven days to attract the best offer. please take new pics and remove those that show the awful distortion to the passenger seats.  Of (me) course your assistance so far is appreciated but please fix and add video as requested to the BAT ad as soon as possible. Please. This is very important to me. Aug 27th 3:40 pm (HIM) Will be doing More pics and video tomorrow.  The seats look like sun shining on them and no one has commented that they look brown or stained.  Aug 27th 8pm (me) I understand no one has said anything yet, but maybe there are those that don't say anything and just scroll to the next car and casually moves on. But that's really not the point, it's just several undesirable images that don't do anything to improve the sale of the car, and it should just be enough that I, the customer am not satisfied with those images and I'm asking you politely a couple of times now, to please correct this issue and post better quality images. Aug 28th 11am (HIM) As I said I will be posting new pics and video momentarily.  Aug 31st 7am (HIM) You've taken an innocuous comment and now made it into an argument on the listing. Once again the bumper cover being repainted is not a big deal at all and now it appears to be something that multiple people are commenting on.  Aug 31st 8:30am (ME) Good morning Michael, Woah... ok, I'm an adult here, please don't berate me like I'm a child. I get your point, I answered to a comment that I felt was out of left field, and had no merit, but after I did, I felt I should not have. No one was there to answer to this commenters knee- jerk claim, I knew differently. I did vet this vehicle and gained knowledge of what has or hasn't been done to the vehicle. My efforts, not a complete waste of time as I see the commenter chimed in this morning to admit he might have been off base with his comment. Sept 1st 5:30am (ME) Michael, have there been any updates with the sale of my car? Sept 2nd 7:30am (HIM)High bidder is out he doesn't want to go $14.5 (HIM)We can try cars and bids but I don;'t think it's going to hit $14.5 Sept 8th (me)7:30 pm Michael, What's going on?what's the plan? You're quiet. Iam moving at the end of this month and I was hoping by now we would've had the car sold and I'd have some money in the bank to assist with moving expenses etc.. but unfortunately that didn't happen. I need something to be happening to try and get this car sold in the ballpark of 14.5k. It can be done, I think, but we've gotta move on either getting it on cars and bids or advertising it on your showroom floor, please.  Sept 9th am 7(HIM) I texted you yesterday. I can list on cars and bids but I dont think we're gonna hit $14.5 I'll (him)runs some more comps later today and let you know what I think we can sell it for.  Sept 9th 11:15pm (ME) Michael,If you go into the cars and bids auction with a negative thought, well it will absolutely come out that way. I need you, in all honesty, to be a little more enthusiastic and positive about the car sale, I worry enough for the both of us, promise. § Meanwhile, Michael would never remove those images I expressed distain for,the 4 or 5 images I would repeatedly ask him to remove, and he would not. The exchanges with Michael were ok, until they were not. The moment even the slightest critique is made or you express feedback of anything service related, negative in nature about him, he becomes ultra sensitive and reacts immediately with a passive aggressive tone and a response that sounds like something a young emotional adolescent might say.

Yelp
One of my favorite places in Oakland! This beer garden is a museum, bar, restaurant, and large hangout spot all in one. It had some really cool art and some fun surprises :) It's definitely been a good place during COVID-19 as there is a large outdoor area with very spread apart seating. You order drinks in one area, and can order awesome food from Popoca in another area. I LOVE THE PUPUSAS. They are my favorite and change often. I want them to bring back the Caulfilower Pupusa and keep it on the menu permanently! So good. The only Pupusa I didn't care for was the black bean, it didn't have much flavor for me. Otherwise the veggie options and meat options are usually great. Such comforting warm food, perfect to pair with a cool night and beer! I don't believe they take reservations, so call in advance for a wait time and then put your name in. Staff is always friendly. Enjoy!

Yelp
I was referred to Mike Sarcona at Classics Cars West by my good friend and car expert, Mike Benner. Mike Sarcona's place is in a convenient spot near Auto Row and he has a cool old showroom. He made the transaction simple, reasonable and pain free. Finally giving up on my vintage car was an emotional moment but Mike couldn't have made less stress free. He found buyers, negotiated, settled on a fair price, earned his modest commission and handled all the paperwork. So appreciative. I'll miss Ruby but would recommend anyone selling a vintage car to check him out.

Mandy D.

Yelp
This space is amazing! A space for art shows, with classic cars, and a bar on the side! Very tasteful. I've been here for Aloha Shaved Ice pop up and discover this gem. There's an outdoor patio where there usually a food pop-up. It's a very low key atmosphere with food, music, plants. Good for chilling.

Romy I.

Yelp
Fun with great art. I think the gimmick is that they're trying to make cars cool with people even though cars stopped being a status symbol for cool young people a long time ago. The cars look neat and there's fun art galleries here.

Clarence A.

Yelp
There was not allot of cars but few did catch my eye, A prowler, a older vette and a old supra all were displayed with price tags, best part about this place, in the back or on the side for that matter there is an outside area with tables and dj playing outside, on a nice day, grabbing some grub and some brew that they have on tap would be a definite must try if you are walking around in the area. They do offer flights of the beers they have was not able to sample, but I will have to come back and enjoy the music on the side and admire some of the vitage cars parked inside if not outside ambiance ***** service ***** price $$$ depends on what your buying

Brett B.

Yelp
Been here a buncha times for art shows and live performances. Always a good time with very pretty cars. No complaints. Totally worth checking out

Kurt S.

Yelp
Very responsive and helpful with getting a Pantera out of storage, cleaned up and sold. Good communication along the way to keep me informed. Very happy with their efforts.

Alexander B.

Yelp
Literally the worst experience of my life. Picked up a Ferrari 355 manual and did everything via video with COVID going on and upon delivery the car had a suspension signal and check engine come on within 25 miles. I took it to a mechanic who is trained and worked on these for 40 years. He found the AC compressor was bad yet Michael said it blew cold air. On top of this the gears were screaming around 1-2 gear and comes to figure out with a scope the transmission needs a rebuild. Needless to say do nothing trust a word this idiot tells you as a complete nightmare from a car guys perspective. Definitely go see the cars and get them inspected unless you want a $20k bill to fix other people's problems.

Valentino G.

Yelp
Had an easy time viewing the car I wanted to purchase and had hands on updates on information regarding the car. Overall the experience was great and I have no problem recommending anyone looking for great experience to Classic Cars West.

Mark S.

Yelp
Have a vintage vehicle to sell, this is the place to get it done. Michael, the owner, knows the business and is up front with everything. He informed me about the market for my vehicle, how it would be marketed, where to start the price and what to expect in the process. The vehicle sold right in the range he thought it would and the transaction was seamless. It was a GREAT experience.

Amy J.

Yelp
Wow! They open up their garage for the Art Murmur and Saturday Stroll. I must say, there is nothing like art and cars together in one space. They have some pretty cool cars as well as art and I've never been a huge car fan but I know people that are really into them. The staff are super friendly and they have some pretty killer art hanging in this space. Make sure to make a trek to see it.

Izabell B.

Yelp
The full bar is awesome and so is the service. The cars are such a fun great bonus and so are the monthly art exhibits my new favorite place for Friday nights. AND there's a beergarden out back, have no idea how I haven't heard of this place before!!!

Silje S.

Yelp
Very cool cafe and concept, but I have to rate them down on the service. We were kept waiting for nearly 30 min on a day that wasn't even that busy, and they didn't seem to care that they were taking long. However, when our burritos eventually arrived they were huge, which was a bonus. In my opinion the burritos were a bit heavy on the tofu and the seitan bacon a tad tough, but it was still very flavorful. But as I am not a vegan it was not quite my cup of tea, though. Also their water tasted of chlorine. The best part had to be the outdoors seating in the back; very spacious and artsy. Still, I don't think I would come back here but is was a cool place to try out.

Alexi A.

Yelp
I would not recommend this restaurant. I found two long hairs in my burger. When I brought it to the attention of an employee, she told me in a rude manner that the hair wasnt possibly from them and refused me a refund. I will not be returning or recommending.

Brian P.

Yelp
I was very happy with the support and service. I sold a classic Thunderbird with Mike. They have a flat rate for cars in my price range, and they took care of everything. I learned that selling a classic on your own is a pain in the rear end, so I recommend having professional help. The paperwork was easy. It was so nice to get a check in the mail without a lot of hassle.

Marlen K.

Yelp
This might be the coolest spot in Oakland to drink a beer on a nice day. 5 stars because it deserves it, but wish they had a bigger beer selection (sours plz!!!)...and don't come here if you're in a rush because the food takes a while.

Charles Montgomery B.

Yelp
Excellent! CCW has a curated selection of vintage cars, some that cost much less than you would think. Make sure to check their website for the current inventory - I am drooling over the '72 Honda Z600... Highly recommended!

Margie G.

Yelp
CCW sold my Lotus Elise for a competitive price in a week after Cars Dawydiak was unable to get so much as a bite at the same price in nearly 5 months. They really do actively and intelligently list your car and work with you to ensure the car gets the best exposure to the right audience. Sales representative Mike Bower was honest, the negotiations were transparent, and his advice was reasonable and savvy. He went the extra mile to make sure I was happy with the transaction and never blew the smoke up my backside that folks in the car sales industry are famous for. Very refreshing. I strongly recommend CCW and Mike Bower for anyone seriously considering selling their sportscar or classic auto or muscle car. He knows his stuff and will treat you well and GET YOU THE SALE!

R T.

Yelp
CCW is an excellent place to sell any classic car. They are friendly, knowledgeable, very helpful, and they go the extra mile for their customers. Our aunt's Ford Galaxie sold very quickly without any problems or delays. Michael Sarcona was awesome and I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking to sell their classic car. If you want to buy some amazing classics, then please check them out they have a great select. I was impressed by their stock, seeing some rare cars made me a true believer. thank you CCW and Michael Sarcona

Gladys H.

Yelp
I recently sold a 1957 Chevy though Mike over at Classic Cars West. They exceeded my expectations throughout the process. They did a wonderful job detailing the car and taking very nice pictures. They handled all aspects of the sell. I'm very satisfied with their level of professionalism and expertise. I would definitely use them again and would recommend them to anybody looking to sell a classic car. Thanks again!

Tim T.

Yelp
I recently sold a 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera through these guys and I was very happy with their services. My car was in need of some serious engine work, but CCW was patient and ultimately found a good buyer at a price I was satisfied with. They also detailed the car for me and had good quality photographs up on their site with days of dropping the car off. Since I didn't have a garage for the car, I was very pleased that they could store the car for the time it took to sell it. Their communication was great throughout the process. I found them to be very reasonable and practical as well as professional and highly recommend them.

JoAnn G.

Yelp
Mike and the gang helped my 1968 Dodge Coronet like no one else could. New interior, engine work, stereo. Now the kids don't complain riding around in it. There is plenty of more work to be done and you can bet I will be going back to Classic Cars West.

Dan S.

Yelp
I had been searching for a very specific older Porsche 911 model for several years and met with numerous dealers and individuals along the way. Classic Cars West had the perfect vehicle and my experience from initial diligence through purchase was honest, straightforward and hassle free. Mike B. strongly recommended that I inspect the car with my own mechanic before moving through to close, so that I'd have all needed information before closing the deal (who does that?). I'd definitely work with these guys again on either the buy or sell side and highly recommend them.

John E.

Yelp
Michael at Classic Cars West just sold our classic sports car for top dollar, couldn't be happier. He made the whole thing so easy, this is the only way I would consider getting rid of any car of significant value. No muss, no fuss, he handled everthing. We drove the car to Oakland, signed a contract, left the car there. Michael kept us appraised of what was going on on a regular basis. When the car sold we drove to Oakland to pickup the check, it was really that easy. John&Jolene

Alex B.

Yelp
Michael and Classic Cars West was able to sell my vehicle as promised. Michael is very flexible and will work with you to sell your classic car. The consignment contract is simple and once delivered, Michael takes care of the rest. During the process, he was available to answer questions and concerns, returning emails/text/calls within 24 hours or sooner. My 73 FJ40 sold just a few days ago, and I received the best price based on the condition and market. I do recommend to do your own research on the value of your vehicle and compare it with similar ones out in the market. The sooner you are realistic about your value, the quicker your vehicle will sell. Initially, I was pricing mine to sell a third higher than what I settled on. In the end, the market, and Michael's work provided a buyer that met us at the right price. We will definitely use this establishment for selling our next classic car project. Thanks again, Mike.

Nik C.

Yelp
Beer, vegan food and amazing old sportscars on display around you. Unique to say the least! Very Oakland and just the thing for a sunny day - or even a rainy day as they now have indoor bar and seating. It is also kid friendly with all those giant hot wheels sitting next to you.

Robert R.

Yelp
Sold a second car through Stefan in May. Was surprised how much I got. Was thinking of taking it off the market, but the offer was so good I couldn't refuse. Again, I trust these guys completely and will go through them for my next purchase.

Hannah A.

Yelp
Excellent place to see beautiful cars and meet great people. They go out of their way to make your visit enjoyable! Can't wait to see the place on First Friday! Huge thank you to Stephen and Kelsey for being so kind and helpful when my car window was smashed! They went out of their way to ensure I had a great experience during an unpleasant situation. Great shop, great cars, great people!

B.j. S.

Yelp
After 45 years I decided to part with my "Yellow Bird," a 1952 MGTD. After reading the positive reviews about Classic Cars West, I contacted Michael, who could not have been more accommodating. He came to SF to evaluate the car and even drove it over to the shop In Oakland for me. The online photos were very well done, the car was eventually sold to someone in Spain (!) for slightly less than the original asking price and only a few tears were shed when I signed the final papers. Adios, old friend! (The car, that is.) I wouldn't hesitate to recommend CCW to anyone looking to sell or buy a special car. b.j.

john n.

Yelp
I went in yesterday to talk about selling my Boxster and was helped by Mike Bower. He gave me great advice and was very straightforward, and explained that they would detail it for free and take no money until it sold. I would sell with these guys anytime.

Greg E.

Yelp
See my previous review for more details, but once again Classic Cars West came through even when the DMV didn't (imagine that!). Just received my pink slip today after Mike followed up with them BEFORE I even realized there was going to be a delay due to the usual new-form runaround from the state. Talk about service after the sale! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for all your antique, classic, and collector car needs!!!

Joe S.

Yelp
Classic Cars West is a refreshing resource in the world of pre-owned vehicles. I have received superior service and advice in selling and buying vehicles through them. If you want to consign your vehicle through them, there is no pressure to put it in their showroom as you can retain possession and leave the advertising and call-filtering to them. And, they have a great space should you want to leave it with them and they coordinate art shows and other events in an effort to obtain prospective buyers. Both of the guys there are named Mike and you're in good hands with them whether you're looking to buy or sell a car. This place is a rare find in the car world!

Eric H.

Yelp
These guys were great. I was trying to sell my Porsche and while I had some bites I didn't have the time to market or show my car. These guys were persistent in marketing my car thru a number of channels (Ebay, Craigslist, etc) and in showing my car. They were flexible on when and where the car was... I drove the car for part of the sales cycle and just brought it down when a perspective buyer was coming by ... and then just left it at their shop for a couple of weeks when that was most convenient. Ultimately they found me a buyer at a good price and arranged all of the details of payment, title, etc. Great job.

Kim K.

Yelp
Mike is amazing to work with. I got my 79' Trans am from him. Extremely helpful.

Fletcher B.

Yelp
Mike at Classic Cars West has provided us with excellent salesmanship and service. He worked hard to sell my car and made the sale and paperwork easy. He is a true professional.

Vahid G.

Yelp
I bought my second car from Classic Cars West around three weeks ago. This is a 69 Jaguar XKE. I bought my first car from Michael Sarcona who is the owner around two years ago which was a 1960 Austin Healy 3000. By the way this is the first time I have taken the time to write a review on Yelp because I want to put in a good word for them. I have ranked him the highest possible because he is a true professional and quite honest in answering your questions. He does not lie or exaggerate. He will tell you what he knows about the car and will take the time to answer your questions. He is not your typical "used car salesman." He is knowledgeable but will not push you to get a car. He will answer your questions and take the time to let you figure out what you want to do. If you know what you want and he has it, you should work with him to get the deal. I bet you it will cost you more if you went somewhere else. Good luck.

Dave H.

Yelp
Just bought a beautiful 1966 Mustang convertible from Classic Cars West. Mike was really great to deal with, answered all my questions, and even picked me up at the airport in the car. I flew down from Vancouver, Canada and Mike helped me get all the paper work in order for a very smooth import to Canada. I drove the car all the way home; it ran great as advertised and passed inspection with no issues. Still running and looking amazing and still getting used to constant compliments. The only bad thing was having to take off the California black licence plates, but nothing they can do about that. Honest guys, true love of great cars and nice to deal with. They were just as quick to answer the few questions I had after purchase as during making the sale. I can totally recommend CCW if you're like me and a little hesitant about dealing with a car dealer so far away from home. Great experience.

Gilbert A.

Yelp
i bought a classic jag from CCW. being an overseas buyer buying a car from the US for the first time was something very nervous with me. but to be honest i was very lucky buying this car from CCW and dealing with Stephan who arranged for everything with me and gave me lot of comfort. i highly recommend CCW!!! best place to buy a classic from!!

John H.

Yelp
I was a virtual consignee for a rare mopar I had failed to sell on my own to these guys from Frisco. It was a totally restored 1969 Dodge Superbee 383 with a unique history. This car had been in my family since new, about 4o years and was like a child to me. I had never been thru this process before and I can tell you these guys handled me like a newborn. They simply handled all the complications, and there were many. Their counsel and advice where paramount in fetching the highest price, helping me thru a labyrinth of procedures and paperwork, deadlines and other snags making all this tolerable. I have learned you need a trusted professional at your side with this kind of transaction-and these are the guys to do it. I tied up their phone lines many times but they remained patient and knowledgeable thru out the entire process. And, most importantly, they did just what they said they would do from the start; they sold my extremely rare car, for a great price, in just seven days. And, their fee compared to others I had shopped was very reasonable. I would recommend these guys to help you sell your classic or rare car all day long. They personally went out of their way to make an otherwise stress filled ordeal comfortable and profitable. -John
