Farm Tours and Hotels Could Help Save America’s Food System - Eater

"It is 8:30 a.m. at Wildflower Farms, a glamorous self-declared “nature resort” on 140 acres of land in New York’s Hudson Valley, where a two-person cabin starts at $731 per night. The farm has invited guests to rustle up breakfast the old-fashioned way in the henhouse, a wooden structure with a modern farmhouse aesthetic similar to that of the guest cabins just a few minutes’ walk away. A member of the farm staff who manages the animals (including pigs, sheep, and donkeys) encourages guests to collect as many eggs as they find. Visitors can take those eggs home or bring them to the on-farm restaurant, Clay, where a chef will use them to prepare breakfast." - Elena Valeriote

Hudson Valley's Wildflower Farms Is the Best NYC Escape

"I entered Clay — the hotel’s restaurant named as a tribute to the soil where much of its produce is grown — to find a packed dining room on a bone-chilling Monday in November, with diners at the bar and at tables that sit right against the kitchen where chef Rob Lawson was hard at work. I enjoyed a tightly curated, Empire State–positive wine list overseen by Vanessa Price and sipped a throaty Finger Lakes Cabernet Franc from Hermann J. Wiemer while looking out to the backlit silhouette of the ridge; the whole experience felt just as perfect as you could hope for nowadays." - David Landsel

We had a wonderful anniversary dinner at Clay and couldn’t have asked for a better experience. The space is warm and welcoming, and the food was excellent from start to finish. Our server, Erica, was fantastic – attentive without hovering, thoughtful with her suggestions, and genuinely invested in making the night feel special. We had wine with dinner, and she helped guide us to a great choice. She went out of her way to acknowledge our anniversary, and those little touches really elevated the whole evening. Highly recommend both the restaurant and the team here. In addition to dinner, we ate breakfast each morning out by the fire pit with our dog, and the service there was just as impressive. Connor, our server at breakfast, was equally incredible – warm, attentive, and welcoming – and really helped make our stay feel relaxed and special from the very start of each day. Oh, and the food was amazing.

Google
Found this hidden gem from searching online and came for a birthday. Service was great and food was delicious. We came for luna and it was pretty empty inside even though we made reservations. The restaurant is attached to a cabin retreat/ resort. Lots of nice views of the mountains. Would love to come by during warmer weather.

I ate at clay on Thanksgiving, and had the most incredible service. My waitress Marissa was incredible, she was extremely knowledgeable about the area and the property and had some amazing recommendations. She even brought me a little surprise for an early birthday.. by far the best service restaurant in upstate New York !

Google
Impeccable experience. We were a party of three, plus a wheelchair-bound child, and everyone from the valet to our server made us feel welcome and comfortable with ease and grace. It was the second time for myself, the fourth for my sister, and the first for our friend, and I do see this becoming a tradition. Always stunning flavors, warm service, and an ambience that is a great example of relaxed luxury.

Google
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Truly Wonderful Brunch Experience with Stunning Views! This is absolutely IT! After Amy from Clay at Wildflower Farms, read my review she reached out to me and invited me back for a second visit. Amy went above and beyond to make the experience better, and I am so grateful. To recreate the moment for my Mother-in-Law's birthday, which was the reason of our previous visiting, Amy had a lovely dessert with a candle brought out for us, a kind and thoughtful gesture that truly made the occasion special. This level of dedication to a customer's happiness is rare and appreciated! So thank you! The Service & Staff: Our server was exceptional, attentive, energetic, and genuinely helpful (a huge improvement!). All our requests were handled promptly, and the staff created a wonderful, relaxing atmosphere. The Food: Everything was Delicious! We were thoroughly impressed with the quality and presentation of the dishes: Appetizers/Bakery: Highly recommend starting with the fantastic Cinnamon Roll & Cream Cheese Icing and the savory, flaky Buttermilk Farm Herb Biscuit. Mains: Our party enjoyed the savory Clay Burger with cheddar and fries, the savory olive oil pancake and a surprisingly exceptionally simple omelet that complimented the pancakes. Personally, I loved the rich flavor of the Shakshuka (farm egg, spiced tomato, feta, sourdough), served piping hot in a skillet that took a long time to cool down, but I did not mind since i was enjoying my Mimosa and Mushroom Coffee (interesting flavor but try it at least one time.) Second times the charm! *** PREVIOUS REVIEW***This is not it. Made a reservation a month ago for my MIL's brunch and requested a nice seat with a view of the mountains. That did not happen since we were told that the outside area was a first come first serve or the other area which has a 30 min wait. We decided to sit inside, and order our meal. THE BAD: COFFEE was room tempeture and when asked for a new cup, the waitress offereda bewildered response, "butI poured it straight from the machine." We had to ask for a new cup rather than she providing it. MIMOSA was OJ and a splash of champagne TEA was for two people but was given one pot, one tea bag and for some reason the o so energetic waitress explained that all the tops for the pots wear gone, thus a plate was used. WATER DROPLETS fell on my shoulder from the ceiling. Waitress response, "o thats the air conditioner." No offer to move, no apology to the inconvenience. FOOD was a bit undesirable. The buttermilk chicken was boneless, so chicken tenders, that was too heavy with the grits. The eggs were just boring and a half of a sourdough bread. Felt like I was given a ration meal THE GOOD: My party enjoyed their burger The grounds are immaculate and the views are just breath taking. Basically, I thought this place would be amazing, but it's just like any other basic spot.

I’ve been here a few times and, tonight was by far the greatest experience I’ve had thanks to Maddie (I’ve met her before and she was and continues to be WONDERFUL!), Karicia, Christian and Merrick!!! Thank you so much for the incredible evening and making the experience a memorable one. The food, as always, is fresh and by far the greatest. My friend, she had wine and was a VERY happy woman. Sharing some photos for a felt experience. Thank you so much, Clay— and all that continue to make this place feel like home.. :)

Clay at Wildflower Farms is truly something special. Today we stopped at Clay on our way up to Saratoga Springs during our first family vacation with our 4 month old baby, and the experience was beyond anything we could have imagined. We have always loved Clay for its incredible food and beautiful atmosphere, so much so that we have brought family and friends here in the past just to share how amazing it is. But today was on another level entirely. The staff went above and beyond in the most thoughtful ways. We were surprised with samples of fresh pressed juices from the menu, and then completely blown away when they presented us with an olive oil pancake featuring “Congrats on Parenthood” spelled out on the board. It was such a meaningful and unexpected gesture that left us in awe. Every single server took the time to greet us, and even the manager came by to say hello. The warmth, kindness, and genuine care shown to us made this one of the best dining experiences we have ever had. We have never stayed on site before, but after experiencing this level of hospitality, we would absolutely love to one day, because if the service at the restaurant is this incredible, we can only imagine how wonderful the accommodations must be. Thank you to the entire Clay team for making such a special moment in our lives even more memorable. We will never forget it. We left 15 minutes ago and have already texted 5 people about our experience 😂

This place has unique flavor foods and views. It was well worth the money spent. A lot of their food is fresh from their farm. Uniquely delicious 😋.

Yelp
We absolutely loved the ambiance and breathtaking mountain views. We had no idea such a beautiful place existed and were so impressed by its charm. The service was wonderful, and the food was unique and true to the region. It's the perfect spot whether you're enjoying a casual drink, taking a scenic walk, or sharing a special moment with friends or someone special. The wildflowers scattered across the property added to the sense of tranquility, making everything come together for a beautifully memorable experience in great company.

Yelp
Rude, Unprofessional, and Disappointing I've visited Wildflower Farms twice before and always loved sitting on the Great Porch for drinks and lunch. Unfortunately, my most recent visit was completely different. We were told by the receptionist that the porch was first come, first serve. Since it was full, we went to the restaurant, where two employees kindly said we could sit at the bar or lounge with the Great Porch menu. Suddenly, a young woman wearing a bandana interrupted, asked if we were hotel guests (we weren't), and told us they "couldn't accommodate us" -- despite the restaurant lounge being empty and the bar half full. When an open porch table came up we sat, she came out again and said, "You misunderstood me -- we can't accommodate you anywhere," and when we asked if she was sorry, she replied, "I don't make enough to be sorry." Moments later, another group sat at the same table without issue. Completely unprofessional and inconsistent treatment -- especially shocking from a resort ranked #1 in New York by Travel + Leisure. We left disappointed and will not return.

Yelp
Resort excellence. This place is a dream. I had the privilege of hosting a company offsite here in September and the entire planning process, to event execution, overall stay, staff support, onsite meals, and property was nothing short of spectacular. I was floored with the venue. Thank you to Christine, Meghan, Josh, Martin and the entire WFF staff who made the event a complete success. Absolutely loved this place and it's worth all the pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, and bills you have! The Great Porch is a stunning communal area with giant fire, drinks, and views. The individual cabins are exceptionally appointed with great ambiance and direct access to the outdoors. All the food is top notch and delicious. So many options for events! I cannot say how amazing this place was. I am so glad it's in our area and I can go back!

Yelp
Absolutely amazing spa and restaurant. From the moment we arrived the staff was friendly and inviting. We spent the day for my daughter's birthdays. The spa services were exceptional. The relaxing salt pool with delicious drinks as you wait. Lunch at Clay was exceptional. Finishing touch of the absolutely delicious peach crisp for the girls!! The fire pit and couches to finish off the afternoon was amazing. The views even on a cloudy day were beautiful. Thank you for a beautiful day

Yelp
reviewing just the food at clay at wildflower farms! it's a great space and serves good food, some reservations on the experience however. the food: i got the burrata with beet root, caesar salad, and steak. the burrata was great and came with a lovely sauce, caesar was good, and the steak was also cooked well with the crunchy vegetables. for dessert we also got the ice cream and chose 3 flavors that they had available. the experience: the first two plates came out quickly, but everything else took an incredddddibly long time. we were waiting forever for our main steak and the dessert, to the point we had to ask the staff to check on our food multiple times. if you're not in a rush i would say this is fine! but we had somewhere to be after.

Yelp
Fantastic spa! Definitely on my top list. You fill out a questionnaire before your service and mention your areas of focus, pressure type, etc. then you're shown around the facilities and given a locker where you find a robe, towel and slippers. Once you change, you can enjoy the pool and check out the complementary snack and beverage station. They had an earl grey tea, infused water, bone broth, house made granola bars and trail mix. And it's pool side:) The massage! -- one of the best I've ever gotten. The bed is super comfy and heated if you request that. I also generally get cold and the masseuse offered to put a heating pad on me as well which I loooved. She also listened well and focused on the parts that were most problematic and used medium pressure like I requested. I was beyond relaxed after the treatment. After seeing the products they sell at the spa, I'm confident to try their facials one day. I actually bought a lotion from Biologique Recherche while I was there. Great options if you're into skincare. The pool facilities are heated and well kept. There's indoor pool, outdoor pool, two jacuzzis, dry sauna and wet sauna. I'll say that the saunas are not hot enough for me..maybe they weren't working properly that day but I walked out of the wet sauna bc after 10min I wasn't warmed up at all. One annoying thing.. There's an airplane that kept flying over the outdoor pool and people were jumping from parachutes in the distance. Cool. But the noise when you're relaxing isn't. I thought it was unnecessary to take that route especially when there's wilderness all around and more than enough space to take a little detour. I recommend Wildflower Farms for a stay or a day visit. Btw! They do have great food. Their restaurant Clay is really good and it's all farm to table. I left a review for Clay on its separate Yelp page. Check it out if you're curious!

Yelp
Would give 10 stars if I could. We were at Wildflower for a weekend getaway. The resort is magical. Love the spa. The massage was one of the best ones I've had. We dined at Clay 3 times. Every dish was absolutely meticulously curated and well presented. The staff are all extremely accommodating and would ask for your names and remembers them. We love the salmon tartini on the breakfast menu, the hanger steak and egg dish (must order) on the dinner menu, and the shakshuka on the brunch menu. Would definitely come back. Book the house car, they have a partnership with Mercedes and you can test drive GWagon and Maybach SUV. They serve bone broths at the fireplace and we had about 10 of them and had to get the recipe. It's too good.

Yelp
Thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Auberage Wildflower Farms, beautiful property, beautiful rooms, loved the fire pit at night, the spa is beautiful and the food is in incredible. Would highly recommend!

Yelp
You can visit without staying at the resort. Patio space is beautiful and enjoyable. Just a relaxing atmosphere. There's a restaurant and a gift shop. Prices are bit too high for my taste for some of the items. Vegan ice cream was delish. Seasonal cobbler is was actually disappointing, undercooked. Atmosphere was worth the drive.

Yelp
There are not enough words in the human vernacular to describe Wildflower Farms. It is the epitome of romance and class and beauty that you don't even realize you need in your life. But you do. Run experience the most beautiful place under our Gunks.

Yelp
This review is for the restaurant. AMAZING. I looooooved the decor and the vibe. It is absolutely beautiful in there. The fried chicken was so good! After our meal, we got cappuccinos and sat outside by the fire pit - they had blankets! Also stopped by the gift shop which was also so chic and cozy.

Yelp
I didn't stay here as a hotel guest, but I came for their restaurant, Clay. The ambience was beautiful with views of the mountains in the distance. We planned to have dinner here, but ended up being too early so we ended up having "snacks" at the bar. The drink list changes every few months since they use local, sesame ingredients from their farm and garden. I ordered two mocktails and they were both amazing. The "snacks" were big and fulfilling. We ordered the hummus plate, the pretzel and charcuterie board. The hummus plate came with seasonal raw vegetables from the garden which tasted delicious. To top it off, we also got the burger which was incredibly and cooked perfectly! The staff there is amazing. The bartender was attentive and really sweet. There was another bartender named Matt who was finishing up his side work for the day, but was making great conversation with us. He knew a lot about the menu and filled us in on history about the farms and environment in the local area. He made us feel very comfortable and at home. Our visit was just perfect and I can't wait to come back with friends and family who will also enjoy this place!

Yelp
This review is about our stay from August 19-21, 2025. We stayed in a Bower cabin. Please note, we live about an hour away, so we are well acquainted with the Hudson Valley. The drive into the resort was underwhelming, but once you park and step onto the great porch- it's clear why this place is so special. The views are beautiful. I think what makes the resort so great is the staff. Everything is completed with intention. I said to my husband at breakfast that it reminded me of the book Ikigai that I read least year. On our first night, we dined at Clay. It was amazing. We noted that they never sat anyone next to another party, allowing privacy among tables. Reservations are strongly recommended! All staff were personable, easy to chat with and were very attentive. My husband was referred to by name when we walked in the door, which I appreciate. But the food- swoon. We shared the pork belly, and the "extras" white beans, cherry glace- were a highlight to the protein. For main courses, the waygu steak was perfect, and the chimchurri sauce (prepared tableside) was soooo good- I spread it all over the potatoes and would have bottled it if I could! My husband had the trout- and it was so flavorful. For me, I was used to trout presenting more as a white fish, but it came out pinkish, like salmon. A highlight was the accompanying asparagus. It had this beautiful topping that melded with the fish. After dinner, we went on the porch to sit at the large fire amongst other guests. Servers were in and out getting drinks, food for anyone that wanted a bite- it was never hard to locate staff. I noted how often they would engage in meaningful conversations abut books (a couple next to use was lounging with their kindles, and was trading title suggestions with staff). Breakfast was so good. I had eggs Benedict and it was beautiful. The eggs were perfectly cooked and the the sauce was to die for. My husband had 2 eggs and the avocado toast. The eggs were lovely. The avocado toast had a lot of burrata, so if you are not a fan- skip it. Our full day, sadly, had torrential downpours. Due to that, the spa didn't have any openings for treatments. However, relaxing in our cabin reading was still so wonderful. That evening, we went off site to eat at the Ridge at Mill House. It was good, but nothing compared to Clay. When we got back to the resort, we had wine by the fire, dessert, and played cards. I really loved the chill atmosphere. Bower cabin (#43) was beautiful. Well appointed, comfortable, and the 2x service a day was appreciated. Radiant flooring, all light being dimmable and the bedding was a highlight. The small additives- like the curated sprays from a local apothecary- were a nice touch. The fridge was stocked with water, canned ciders and mixer drinks. There were also two bottles of wine, (Rose and and Sauvignon blanc), and a bottle of Rye. I think the highlight of our stay was the staff. Every single person was kind, easy to chat with, and seemed genuinely happy to be there- that matters! We really loved our stay there. I hope to go back when weather cooperates- I would love to hike the many trails! We only were able to do one short one before the rain hit- but it was easy to navigate as they are well maintained.

Yelp
This place is fabulous. Absolutely beautiful restaurant. Great views, trendy place, great ambience and everything delicious. Drinks, and all the food we ordered were fab. The service was absolutely awesome. I have to come back here, just loved it!

Yelp
My friends and I were passing through on our way to the Catskills and I was so glad we did because this resort location is breathtaking. The food and drinks at The Clay restaurant were amazing. We heard the breads are made in house and if you are a guest you can even bring fresh eggs from the onsite hen coop to the restaurant to have them cooked. We thoroughly enjoyed a lot of the farm to table items on the menu. The amazing fireplace was a plus! Special shout out to Kelly Holden and her team. They took such great care of my group of 5. Thank you for the warm welcome and hospitality!

Yelp
Wow! What an amazing property! We came here on a rainy Sunday to have brunch and we knew it was going to be amazing the moment we stepped our feet here. Super cozy vibe and warm next to the giant fire place. Menu was very simple but amazing brunch selection. We ordered Shashuka, olive oil pancake, and burger. Shashuka: 3.5/5 Flavor was good but unfortunately eggs were too overcooked Olive oil pancake: 5/5 Amazing slightly crispy on the bottom and thick. Maple syrup was a tad bit sweet as it was drizzled on top of the berry compote. I would order this again but next time I would ask the syrup to be on the side Burger: 5+++++/5 Best burger ever with the best thin fries ever! I highly recommend this! Black angus pattie was cooked to medium perfection and worked really well with sweet lightly toasted buns Service was really good and overall super pleasant experience. I would def come back for dinner and hopefully stay here one day.

Yelp
An amazing community location. The vibes are on point, and the sage pancetta fries are incredible. I come with friends and cards and we sit by the fireplace. They have trails you can walk and picnic on, which I can't wait to do during spring. They have free valet (when I went no one could drive stick tho) and they give out reusable aluminum water bottles when you leave. Love love love it here!

Yelp
Wildflower Farms is a place where you feel good just being there. The outdoor space, with the huge fire pit outside, cozy seating with blankets provided, craft cocktails, and outstanding service - and the beautiful views- you will love it. And so will your guests. We have anparticular server who remembers us, remembers our names. Priceless.

Yelp
This resort exceeded my expectations!! The property is beautiful, immaculate, and well maintained. The staff (every single one!) was cordial, personal, friendly and went above and beyond to make our stay luxurious. Clay restaurant was beautiful-- think ski lodge meets Michelin starred restaurant. Cozy, and comfortable. Wine list was somewhat surprising. I would have liked to have seen more local vineyards and distilleries represented.

Yelp
went here for a little charcooch and matcha with rose and jamie. it was absolutely stunning, i haven't been back since they've paved and it seems more curated now. i didn't even know there was a pool!! we had a fun time, love the outdoor seating. service was excellent as always (even though all my friends don't work there anymore). James the server was lovely. jamie bought a cool shirt from the shop. gonna come back for drinks! "the matcha latte had no coffee in it" - jamie "i resent the ostentatious nature here" - rose

Yelp
The absolute perfect day trip/weekend getaway! I didn't get to stay at the property as this was only a day trip but the location and facilities are incredible. The staff is super nice and all the food and drinks were delicious! Highly recommend making a reservation to dine indoors if you can otherwise the wait isn't too bad and goes by quick while you grab a drink outside. Can't wait to be back soon!

Yelp
I was employed here for 2 years. The GM, Tom Donovan, was at our sister resort in Newport, RI talking ill of me right after I walked out.... TO MY CURRENT CLIENT. She called him out to show him the resort culture they promote is all fake. Beautiful resort that is still lacking

Yelp
This review is for Clay, Wildflower's on-site restaurant. Absolutely stunning! The vibe of the restaurant is so cozy and the views of the mountains are breathtaking. We went during the winter for cocktails and lunch. We also walked around the property and it's absolutely breathtaking. We are already planning our next trip here! The chicken sandwich was simple ingredients and delicious. Breading on the chicken was perfect and the tangy slaw with pickles just made an amazing pairing. I recommend trying the Alpine Negroni; it's the perfect way to warm up by the fire.

Yelp
Clay, a resturant up to the task of standing on its own in an AuBerge resort. Often its difficult for resort resturants to stand on their own at luxury properties like Wild Flower but the kitchen at Clay, led by sous chef Kyle was up to the task on the night we dined. The interior is designed as fitting with the property, think luxurious cabin with an emphasis on being more cozy than posh. Our even started being seated at the Chefs which was a treat since it was a slow night and we were able to engage with Chef Kyle. Wanting to get a good feel, we opted to go with a large number of small plates. We started with the milk bread and liver mousse. The milk bread was served with a delightful brie fondue that had plenty of funk, a delicious honey butter and a fig mustard. Definitely a comforting dish that surely ia something many diners enjoy. The star for me thoigh was the mousse. Served in a crunch rolled pastry(?) And served with a tart, thickened, cherry gastrique. The acid from the gastrique provided the right balance of to cut through the richness of the mousse for a fantastic bite. Next we had the Steak Tartare and Gold Bar squash. The taretare was great and served with haysmoked bread, which at first i thought was more gimmick than substance. However its undeniable that smoky smell/flavor found its way into each bite. The taretare itself was fantastic with nice savory notes provided by the egg yolk and minced shallots, I could have used a touch more acid but a very very good taretare. The gold bar squash was their take on a salad. It consisted of thinky sliced pickled squash, topped with evo, parmasean and cracked pepper. The flavors were nice if not not a little under stated. Again i could have used a little more acid, perhaps a slightly thicker slice on the mandolin would bring in more of the pickling liquid. I should say at this point my palate clearly favors the tang that acid provides, so these dishes likely taste balanced to others and "Im the problem, its me!" Next we had the Celery root, Bucatini and farm egg. The celery root was hearty and rich with a bechamel sauce and a truffle puree. I enjoyed the dish but it was very rich especially when served in the same course with farm egg. The farm egg was a stand out and a flavor bomb that surely would have Guy Fiery screaming all the way from "flavortown". The bucatini was cooked perfectly and layered with complementary flavors. Although rich, the notes of citrus help lighten the dish. My one complaint was a lack of texture diversity. A crunch would have been a welcome addition, maybe toasted pine nuts or something of that ilk. At this point we were stuffed but had one last dish on its way, the Bavette steak. Flap steak is a severly under represented cut that bring flavor and tenderness and make it one of my personal favorites. The steak wass served with a chimmi which was a welcome surprise as we are big fans. The steak was cooked perfectly to order and was seasoned well. The chimmi was delicious but could have used a little more lemon (yeah i know I have a problem). Sadly we ran out of space for desert but the meal was excellent and one would happily have again.

Yelp
We stayed here in a Bower cabin for 3 nights during the New Year holiday. After we booked online, an Itinerary Designer from Wildflower reached out via email to help plan our stay, and to tell us about the different workshops and experiences they offer. We were excited to have such a customized experience, but found the process of emailing back and forth to be clunky and not very helpful. For example, it was not expressed that these workshops and other offerings can only accommodate a small number of people and needed to be reserved weeks in advance. By the time we made some decisions (the week of our stay), most of what we were interested in was already full to capacity. The itinerary designer also offered to assist in making spa reservations at Thistle, but when I inquired about specific days and times, the response I received was essentially: oops, you should have booked further in advance. I would have liked that information in the very first email. I was able to call the spa directly and get on a waitlist, which eventually got us an appointment, but by then it was a 'take it or leave it' situation. I will say, the staff I spoke to at the spa were lovely and helpful though, so kudos to them. When we booked our stay, we chose a room rate online that included "daily breakfast for two", but there was no explanation anywhere of the details of that. After we checked in, I asked three different staff members what it included or if there were any restrictions, and I received different information each time. It wasn't until we checked out that we were finally told we would receive a $60 daily credit upon checkout. (And FYI for anyone else wondering, it is a credit toward your dine-in check totals at Clay during breakfast hours - it excludes room service and brunch). We reserved a table at Clay for the 9pm seating of their NYE Tasting Menu, which happened to be our last evening of the stay (we ate dinner off-site in nearby towns the first two nights). The menu for the night was entirely pescatarian, which was fine for us (not sure if there were other dietary options available), but it ultimately felt like too much seafood for one tasting menu, and there were some small issues in execution. Two of our courses came out in the wrong order from the kitchen, which we didn't mind until we realized it didn't match up with our wine pairing. Our server noticed and brought the correct wine, but then we had multiple glasses and dishes on the table, and it just wasn't quite right. I could also tell that things were plated well in advance because the food temps were off. The broth for the cooked fish course wasn't hot, the first caviar bite wasn't cold enough, etc. Also, I'm aware this is a mellow, relaxing place meant for wellness, but I was surprised there was no other planned itinerary for the rest of the evening, seeing as it was New Year's Eve. There was a string quartet playing live music during dinner, but the countdown at midnight was a bit lackluster and then everyone sort of dissipated and the bar staff started cleaning up. There is definitely some room for improvement if they do something like this next year. Aside from all of my critiques above, our Bower cabin was clean and comfortable, and the property is beautiful. We did the full hiking trail loop both mornings and enjoyed that very much; especially walking along the river and visiting the farm animals. The Great Porch area was our favorite though of course - we spent a ton of time hanging out around the fire. The staff were very friendly and helpful in general, and started to recognize and chat with us by the second night, which was a nice touch. Shoutout to the servers on the porch and the valets, especially. As other reviewers have stated, I think this Auberge property is still just very new and figuring out what it is. For the high cost, the overall experience should be...better. We enjoyed many things about our stay, but there were just too many strikes (I didn't even list them all) to give Wildflower a better rating.

Yelp
The "experience" here needs some tightening. It is a work in progress. When we entered out room there was a handwritten note telling us that as Mercedes owners we would receive a basket and a $100 resort credit. It was not there so later I enquired as to where it was. One person told me that there is a complementary bottle of wine and some chocolates. Another person just minutes later told me that there was no wine, only a piece of chocolate. They assured me that it was in our frig. I looked, and there was none. No one checked to see if I had received, nor did they send another just in case there was none. Simple hospitality common sense for a five-star hotel. There were other minor examples throughout our stay. Now for the good part of the review. The food is very good. It was a bit sweet with sugar used in some of the dishes. For a farm to table restaurant, sugar should be unnecessary. Other than that, the breakfast was good though the portions are large several sides. Dinner was good. Standouts were the octopus, fish, lamb and pork. The setting is rustic and not very interesting. The package adventures were good but very expensive. $400 for a silk dye class per person, $150 for a mixology class per person. Little was included in the expensive resort feel. The classes, however, were excellent. Service on the whole was good. Lots of places to socialize. The gym is well stocked with two pelotons and several treadmills, weights and an elliptical. There are also yoga classes and a spa. The drive from Manhattan was about two hours without traffic.

Yelp
This review is specifically for the restaurant, Clay. A friend of mine and I stopped by here for lunch on our way back to the city after staying at another retreat/resort type hotel. The friendly staff and scenery are the biggest selling point of the restaurant. The food, not so much. I ordered the Chicken Katsu, which apparently is a favorite. I was unimpressed. It was very hard and the chicken was so thin that I barely even tasted it. I also think I would have preferred a different sauce than what they used. It was overpowering for the sandwich, which already had a lot going on, but was still somehow disappointing. The rosemary fries that came with the sandwich were delish though! My friend ordered the Botanical Foccacia, which is basically fancy bread with olives baked in. She wound up having to send it back because it was too salty - it was literally covered in salt and the bread already had olives in it, so yeah. My friend did really enjoy the Pappardelle. She raved about it all the way home. We ordered the $16 chocolate chip cookie for dessert, which was delicious warmed up. This was probably my favorite thing that I had. As you can imagine, this place is a bit pricey, which added an extra sting since my meal left much to be desired. Probably won't return.

Yelp
We only went here for drinks (about $18 a cocktail) and they did not disappoint! The staff is incredibly friendly and the view is stunning. Will definitely be returning!

Yelp
Wildflower farms is absolutely breathtaking. Our stay there was exceptional. The staff were wonderful and very attentive. They went above and beyond to ensure our stay was extraordinary. Our room was very clean, cozy and the bed was extremely comfortable. I also loved all the products (soap, shampoo, etc). The property is beautiful and well maintained. There is a beautiful trail and farm area which was really nice to walk around and explore. The restaurant was fantastic. Everything was fresh, clean and delicious. Highly recommend! It's the perfect place to relax, get pampered and recharge.

Yelp
I loved this place! The Scandinavian vibe is really nice. The food at Clay Restaurant was really good. Service was great. We want to come back in Spring to lounge by the fire pit and walk around the property.

Yelp
This place has potential which is obvious with it being an Aubeirge property. Driving up it looks like a new development that ran out of money, are they going to pave the roads? I highly recommend driving in a truck or Jeep since your basically off roading. When the property is asking the consumers to pay a strong rate they need to deliver on the basics. The staff felt like they had never been trained - blew past all the notes for the special celebration. Front desk didn't know the room categories or what was offered, f&b service was lost, and no one at the hotel communicates. Meadow rooms online say fire places - called to confirm then we get there the front desk says "no meadow rooms do not have fire places." Which we had to show them the description from their website and mention how we called reservations 3 times to confirm. So we room moved to one with a fireplace... The server first night took our drinks and food order, disappeared. I guess to attend to bar where she was sitting on her phone. Mind you restaurant and fireplace were not busy at all when we sat down. When I approached her for another drink and tell her my burger was raw I asked "were you our server still?" Her response, "not really... *awkward laugh* what did you want?" Like I was a bother mind you burger was raw and had been waiting for 45 minutes. Ordered a cake through front desk forgot to bring it to Clay (restaurant) no happy birthday wishes at dinner when I called 5 times before. After dinner I got to room and had to call to remind them to drop off cake only to be delivered without any utensils. Cabins were cool - the "amazing views" they speak of are basically of a swamp not a meadow... Highlights: The bellman (davante and charrel) were the best at the hotel. The front desk manager, Jason, tried and tried but it got awkward and felt like an uphill battle over and over over over...

Yelp
Went there to check out a venue for an event. Place is beautiful. Went into the restaurant to get a drink to sit and enjoy the view. The bartender was so rude! Literally pissed we even asked. Angry poured our ( house white and marg on the rocks 48.00) splashed wine on my sweater because he poured with such anger. My husband decided for those prices we will look elsewhere.

Yelp
Wildflower Farm is beautiful. The accommodations are nice and well thought out. The staff is very friendly. Lots of activities. Great spa. However the food and beverage service is amateur at best. Not one single time did we order that we had a napkin and silverware. We constantly had to ask. We ordered an Old fashion and a glass of wine. Got the Old Fashion in about 10 minutes. Waited another 20 minutes for the glass of wine. Never once did we order lunch or dinner when we received everything we asked for. Several trips back to the kitchen with lots of "oh so sorry ". Then if you wanted to order another drink or food you basically had to chase down a server. When you got their attention it was like they had never had anyone ever ask them to take an order before.. Just a total disconnect. It felt like it was everyone's first day on the job. We sat around the fire pit with other guest just laughing about how bad it was. They definitely need major training sessions. We have stay at several other Aubrrge properties and the service has always been first rate. The valet Parker's were Johnny on the spot. Housekeeping was flawless. Front of the house on top of their game. But at these prices you expect the full package. Oh....the food was pretty good. Nothing special. Everyday we were here the had run out of something.

Yelp
I've been to Clay, the Wildflower restaurant twice. Once for brunch and once for dinner. Both times the service was awful and the food was just fine. This place is supposed to be high end but beyond being beautiful it's missing the boat. So disappointing.

Yelp
Spectacular high end spa with a hippy vibe in fabulous surroundings. Service was great. Staff very friendly. Best massage I've ever had. Superior yoga, mat Pilates and sound healing classes. The on-site farm provides fresh food for guests. I became addicted to their home made bone broth. Worth the visit!

Yelp
I stayed here for a little 3 night birthday trip with my friend and sister. We were primed for girl time, drinks and laying out by the pool. And we did just that! First off, the property is incredible; a rugged beauty with modern touches. The men working at the pool were all very lovely. Super attentive. The food by the pool was strong, esp for pool food. The rooms... heavenly. Truly. The bathroom...the tub, the outdoor shower, the hot tub. The living room... spacious and well decorated. The complimentary fitness classes were also very nice. The reason this isn't 5 star: the main property based issues: the wasps!! They do not have a handle on the wasp situation. I was stung. Secondly, they don't have enough staff... and the staff they do have is very young, and not experienced enough for this caliber of Auburge Resort. Requests are forgotten. All the time. They don't tell you what amenities are on property. We happened to find the zip line. I'm sure this can be fixed in the coming year.

Yelp
Fabulous venue close to NY area. Luxurious accommodations, fabulous food, lovely staff. Setting is so interesting for views of the "Gunks." Take a side trip to Mohonk, come back and sit around the huge fire pit.

Yelp
Excellent meal all around! We had the milk bread, the coddled egg and black cod and they were all excellently executed! The egg was the best thing we've eaten in a very long time. We hope to go back and try brunch soon!

Yelp
nice resort undergoing changes to accommodate a potential promising natural spot. However, it lacks efficiency and problems solving staff. Perhaps this is a management issue in properly training their staff. A clear example, was the total failure to clear the availability of a room for a very important event (my son's Wedding) that was confirmed well in advance and with promises of reliability from their side. It took the staff over five hours to solve one problem. The result was an embarrassing situation vis-a-vis the group that reserved that venue. Moreover, a written complaint was sent to the management with not even a simple acknowledgment from their side, hence overlooking customers concerns with their services.

Yelp
Having been to an Auberge resort before, I was excited to see one open in the Hudson Valley. My stay however was simply one of the most underwhelming and disappointing ones I've ever had at this price point. The cottage was beautifully appointed, and our view was outstanding, especially from our private hot tub. The cottage and Thistle Spa were the highlights of this resort. At the spa, we had amazing treatments and excellent customer service. Not so much at the only onsite restaurant, Clay: We ate here two nights. The first night the food was excellent, and the service was very good. The second night (Friday, much busier) the food was good and the service was atrocious. We had to ask the manager (?) to take over for our overwhelmed waitress (perhaps we had the same waitress as the review below :) . As for the service at Wildflower Farms, ugh, where to begin. I guess with the service failure that actually had a consequence (as opposed to just aggravation or disappointment): failing to plug in my electric vehicle, after them INSISTING that they park the car when we arrived. I was very clear in asking that they make sure to plug in the EV so I had enough charge on the battery to get home, only to find shortly before leaving that they had NEVER PLUGGED IT IN, and that I indeed did NOT have enough battery to get home. They even noted "EV, plug in" on the tag they put on my car keys. Alas, poor communication on their part resulted in lots of last minute scrambling to change my friend's train tickets and find en route charging stations. All on our last morning, leading us to leave Wildflower Farms more stressed than when we had arrived at was intended to be a relaxing weekend getaway. This level of inattentiveness was a thread through our stay. Especially the housekeeping services which were abominable. There is clearly no "checklist" of standards, or management are not holding their housekeeping staff to any standards at all. The problems were too numerous to list here. Suffice it to say that it was far below any standards that I have ever experienced in any kind of hotel, let alone at this price point! Dirty towels left on the front porch of our otherwise charming cabin. The lid to the bathroom trashcan left on the open toilet seat. Dirty coffee cups & empty cans left in the room (2 days running). We were traveling as friends and purposely booked the cabin with a bedroom and a sofa bed. They did not inquire if we wanted the sofa bed made up and so when we called at 10p to ask for linens, they arrived closer to 11p with service to make up the sofa bed. If they aren't going to inquire about what accommodations are needed, why not just make sure extra linens for the sofa bed are available in the cottage? Many, many other smaller but noticeable failures, when piled on -- one after another -- become untenable to justify anything close to the fees they charging. I made reservations here in August when I saw they were opening, having been to an Auberge resort before but not having had the benefit of any reviews of recent stays. If you don't have reservations and are considering a stay here, think again. Wildflower Farms is clearly not ready for primetime, at the rates they are charging. Memorable, for all the wrong reasons. Thistle Spa IS however, and if you're looking for a great spa treatment and are in the New Paltz area, make sure to give it a go!

Yelp
Went here for my fancy birthday dinner and it was wonderful. At first, I thought we should save a fancy dinner for when we're back in the city, but this place did not disappoint. We were staying nearby to Lake Minnewaska for a hiking trip weekend and as soon as we pulled up I was hooked. The ambiance and decor reminded me of being out west, with all the wood and huge fire pit in the front. The wine list was on point and the porterhouse for 2 was cooked perfectly. The burger and octopus were also good. The desserts left a bit to be desired but we were all so full it didn't matter much.

Yelp
Clay was an enjoyable experience in a beautiful restaurant setting. The local vegetables are exquisite.

Yelp
Stayed for 3 nights with my 7 year old son, and my friend stayed in another cabin with her 8 year old daughter. We all had a great time. We signed up for endless activities: making terrariums, making and painting clay pottery, beekeeping class where you suit up and go into the beehive, "Explorers Club" where they took just the kids for 3 hours of activities, feeding the pigs, natural playground with swing and zip line, swimming in the outdoor pool, and s'mores around the fire at night. I did get to use the gym and it was very well equipped with cardio machines and free weights and a separate yoga studio. Summer bliss!

Yelp
Amazing, views and really friendly staff. The drinks and the fries were worth every penny. Loved having a little getaway in this beautiful location

Yelp
hotel is a great concept, room is very pretty, heating system was exceptionally, unbelievably loud and did not allow for a minutes sleep. The food at Clay is quite horrid. I am hopeful the hotel improves with age!

Yelp
OK this is probably going to be the most difficult review that I have ever written. Simply because I've been fortunate enough over the past 40 years to have traveled the world, and have stayed in the best resorts and spas however, auberge resort has completely out done themselves with the Wildflower Spa. Every detail has gone into making your experience at this resort & spa , one that not only will you treasure for a lifetime, but honestly should be on anybody's bucket list. I mean everything from the complete professionalism of the entire staff that work on the grounds, to the details and appointments in the cabins to the surroundings, this place is basically nothing less than perfection. My only regret for placing this review is that hopefully I will be be able to get a room again!! Auberge, my hats off to you. My wife took me here for three days for my birthday, as well as, to help heal the loss that we have from the loss of our dog that passed away last month, and I have to say I have returned home in a better state of mind, not to mention completely in a relaxed stage! Thank you to everyone that works on the property and I mean everyone .. including the two bald eagles, that reside in a nest, high above the grounds overlooking the resort R Stone
