OC’s Longstanding Indian Restaurant to Downsize to Landlord Dispute | Eater LA

"A 36-year-old Indian restaurant in Irvine will close its storefront on Thanksgiving and shift operations to a commercial kitchen in Costa Mesa beginning December 1, moving to a takeout-and-delivery model. Widely credited with introducing modern Indian cuisine to Orange County, the longtime establishment is making the change because the owners' lease expires at the end of November and a renewal would have included a rent increase. Co-owner and chef Geeta Bansal and her husband Praveen say the move is temporary and that they are looking for another permanent location." - Mona Holmes

Delicious custom Indian cuisine combined with exceptional service. The biggest challenge is trying to decide what to order, short of ordering everything on the menu. Every dish was exquisite!

Yummy. Creative. Outstanding experience. This is one of the best and most authentic Indian restaurants I have been to in the US. Being from Delhi, it is difficult to find proper Punjabi food.

I'm a word: magnificent. Everything on the menu has depth and complexity without being over seasoned. A great value as we always get a second or even third meal from an order. This isn't quick service fare, but in the end is top notch unique quality dining at quick service rates. Holds its flavor and easily served at home. The weekly at home delivery menus are a delight, but standing any day menu is also amazing. I'm not being sappy when I say that love is a base ingredient in every dish. Try it you'll know what I mean.

Clay oven is hands down the best Indian food in Irvine. The owners and staff are incredibly kind. When I don’t know what to order l, they just take over and deliver a wonderful meal. I’ve never had a bad experience here and go out of my way to order from them when we have guests because they always love it. 10/10 a must try!!

You’ve never tasted Naan bread like this before. Order everything and you will thrilled that you did!

Clay Oven has been my go-to for Indian cuisine for years, and so far they have never disappointed. Besides the tried-and-true dishes that everyone knows and loves they also always have specialty dishes on their menu, with some very interesting and hard-to-find options from time to time. Just look at their menu to see what they offer. In any case, I can strongly recommend Clay Oven for anyone looking for some of the best Indian food you can find in the area.

This place never disappoints. Everything is always just amazing. Their Swordfish Tandoori is a must. You've never had anything like it. If you like it a little spicy the Black Cobra Chicken is perfect. We've had just about everything on the menu and it's all been so yummy.

High end Indian food that definitely branches out. Not only is it the only Indian restaurant I've ever seen with beef on the menu, but even has bison, elk, and other exotic meats. They even have an impressive beer menu including a few incredibly delicious hard to find beers. My only complaint is that it was quite pricey, but the food was delicious. I'll probably still be back on occasion.
