Such a wonderful time!!! My friend and I went on a Tuesday, which coincidentally is when they have free pizzas in the evening! That was already such a good sign and the warm welcome just continued… Emma and Faye (can’t overstate how lovely they are!!) were helpful with setting up our station, the music was so chill and soothing, and the whole atmosphere of the studio was so friendly! The prices are very reasonable and I can’t wait to return!!! Highly recommend.

Had a great time painting there initially! The video and staff are so so helpful and the space is super welcoming with everything you would need. I’m only giving 3 stars because I was disappointed that when I got my plate back, the paint on it was blown out and there are tons of bubbles which makes it unsafe to use for food :(

I went on January 1st. It was my brothers' first time ever doing ceramic painting and they loved it! We loved it. It was a nice space to talk and paint. Everything was explained perfectly and the pick up was smooth. Thank you!!!!

This year, my best friend and I decided to try out a new spot for our annual pottery tradition, and we chose Clayroom. It was our first time there, and I'm happy to report that it did not disappoint. The moment we stepped inside, we felt an instant sense of calm. The cozy vibe of the studio put us at ease from the moment the friendly staff greeted us with warm smiles. This welcoming atmosphere truly set the tone for a perfect experience. As we grabbed our pottery pieces to work on, one of the staff members, Faye, was kind enough to offer us an extra free piece to paint. We spent hours there, chatting, laughing, and fully absorbed in our creative endeavor. Faye checked in regularly, offering us yummy treats and making sure we always had everything we needed. By the time we were packing up to leave, we both felt completely recharged and elated with the experience. This pottery tradition is more than just an activity for us - it's about connecting and nurturing our creative sides. Clayroom made that experience even more special, and we just might make it our permanent location for our annual pottery tradition. If you and your friends, family, or partner are looking for a fun, relaxing way to bond, I can't recommend Clayroom enough. It's truly one of the better and more affordable pottery studios in the Massachusetts area, with an unbeatable atmosphere!! We CANNOT wait to visit again<3

I love that there’s a space where you can sit and catch up with a friend and be creative! There are different levels of difficulty to choose for the actual piece itself. They’ve recently expanded to have a larger painting area! I’ve come back to clay room at least once a year since I’ve discovered it years ago

What a fun time we had here! Came here with my two little ones and family and everyone had a great time. It’s such a relaxing experience and the kids felt so comfortable to just enjoy painting without worrying about making a mess. We will most definitely come back!

This place is so fun!! You can go with friends, family and dates. I’ve been here three times in the last year and I plan on going again soon. The staff is very friendly and the vibes are very cozy. These are my friends and I’s creations :)

DO NOT COME. Terrible experience. We came in for a throwing class, and while the instructor was nice, the rest of the experience was awful. When my partner and I returned to pick up our pieces, they “couldn’t find” the bowls we made—both bowls were missing altogether (how convenient). The man there would only offer a refund in the form of pre-made bowls, which were unattractive and meaningless to us. Please support other studios in the area and avoid this place.

Had the BEST time at The Clayroom. You choose your pottery in one building where they then walk you to another nearby building with a huge open area for quiet painting. The staff are incredibly helpful. Great for some peaceful alone time or a paint night with friends. Their special pricing based on day is also great to keep in mind on their website.

A great place for an indoor activity especially during the cold winter. I've been here for three times over the four years and I've enjoyed it. They have even expanded their studio space now and it is so much bigger. You can walk in (I think) but will be better if you book ahead. The studio fees is $20 for two hours and you pay the price of the pottery you choose to paint. They have a variety of pottery and a wide range of colors. The staff is also very helpful. The glazed finished products turn out really pretty. The turnaround time is also fairly quick; you can pick up your pottery after five days (If i remember correctly). If I have to complain, the prices of pottery items have gone up tremendously.

I love The Clayroom. It is such a fun spot to go pottery painting with friends! Compared to other pottery painting places in Boston, this is my favorite for multiple reasons. Firstly, it is very decently priced. The price for the actual experience as well as the individual items to paint is very affordable, especially considering how incredible the experience is and how you can use an unlimited amount of paints. Secondly, there are so many options to choose from - for both the items to paint, as well as the variety of colors. Also, the place itself is so cute - it has a homey, comfortable vibe that feels very safe and cozy. Another thing I love is that the staff are so friendly - they really are so helpful and positive, and they add to the already great vibe of the place. I love The Clayroom, and I'd definitely suggest it as a fun indoor activity in Boston!

So many options for pottery pieces, quick and easy to understand, and well priced! The physical set up of the business is interesting but we had a blast and would do again!

Came here for a fun girls nights. I was able to find street parking on a Friday night. They have a plentiful selection of pottery pieces to choose from to paint on. Once you choose they have a downstairs area where you can start paint. They have a large array of colors and tools to make your decisions. While we painted, there was a QR which lead to a link on instructions. Had great music playing while we were painting. Overall, I had a great experience and highly recommend. It was pretty affordable and I was able to get my piece within a week. I can't wait to come back because I would love to throw my own handmade piece.

Such a great experience and very fairly priced! The owner was so kind and genuinely excited to welcome us and show us the studio. I loved that we could take our time painting without feeling rushed. Learned after the fact that it's BYOB- definitely bringing a bottle of wine next time!

Clayroom is great! Their prices are very reasonable and their pottery selection is very strong. It was very packed when I went but I still had a great time. I'm excited to pick my piece up!

I really really enjoyed my experience at the Clayroom and hope to be back soon! A great idea if you're looking for something fun to do, want to get a little creative (or keep it simple), and make great memories! You get to pick from a variety of different clay pieces and then can paint it to your hearts desire. The inside is spacious and it's a super chill atmosphere to paint your pieces. Once you finish up, they will fire the pieces for you and you can pick them up later that week (but have like a window of a couple weeks to pick up by). It's super low key, super flexible, and super fun! Definitely give it a try when you're in the area.

I had the BEST time at The Clayroom today! I went with my mom and it was the cutest activity for the two of us to do together. We had a lot of fun. I saw some people on dates, big groups of friends, families, etc. Great for all ages. The employees are so friendly and helpful. We had a hard time picking out what to paint there were so many cute bowls and plates, etc. You watch a quick YouTube video when you get there that explains using the paints and how it all works. It's not overly expensive to come here either. You just pay a reservation fee and the price of the pottery which ranges. Sooo fun!! I would absolutely recommend checking out this spot.

Spent my Sunday afternoon painting away for the first time this past weekend! The whole process was easy with a huge selection of ceramics to choose from. My sisters and I first made a reservation online, which you have to pay for. When you get there, you have to pay for the ceramic pieces that you want to paint, and the price varies depending on what you get. After picking your pieces, you wait and have a staff bring you to your table. I ended up getting a mug and two small bowls, but it was really hard to narrow down my choices. I guess this gives me an excuse to come back here to paint more! The duration of our reservation was 2 hours, however, the staff let us stay longer to complete our paintings, which was so kind of them to do. 2 hours is definitely not enough time, but I appreciate them for being so accommodating. If I lived close to here, I would be here all the time just to get my creativity fix and paint pieces that I would love to have at my house. And that is another reason why I love Clayroom - the ceramic pieces they offer are so versatile and will be utilized instead of it being a paperweight. I would also love to try their pottery class!

This place is a really fun location for pottery or ceramic painting sessions. The pottery is kind of expensive and limited depending on when you go. Note that the actual painting area is farther out than the store front - just a block away. There were many colors available to paint with and you can get really creative. However, you really are left to your own devices, there arent many instructions. Otherwise it was a fun night.

There is a studio fee of $10 which include the paints, painting brushes + other supplies and baking your piece for you which can be picked up after 5 days! The pieces range from about $10-$20 which is pretty affordable. The employees were friendly and helpful and let us stay past the 2 hours slot to finish up our pieces which was very kind of them. Make sure you take a picture before handing your pieces off to the studio so the employee can reference them when picking up! It was also fun to see other painted pieces in the studio. Would definitely come back again! They also offer pottery making workshops if you're interested!

This place is so fun! I had a birthday party here with a large group (20ish people) and it went very smoothly. Pizza and beverages were provided with the party package, and each person could paint their own object (up to $18). The inside of the studio is a little small, but we made it work. They have a ton of colors and plenty of supplies - a perfect activity for creative types! The owner did a great job of explaining the painting process and even let us stay past our 2 hour slot to allow people to finish painting their pieces. The pieces are ready to pick up within 5ish days and the pickup process was seamless (just show them a picture of what you painted)!

Clayroom is an amazing chill hang out location or date place! I went with my boyfriend to paint your own pottery, which is only $10 per person for two hours + the cost of the pottery you pick out! There were an abundant amount of shades of colors and a ton of practical and cute/funny pottery choices. The owner even set up a few blow dryers in case you needed your glaze to speed dry. Everything was run by the owner and a colleague of his, and they were very open to helping with any questions or concerns. Definitely would go back!

Sooooo fun!! Amazing to do with friends! I have gone three times and every time was so fun. A lot of seating is available on the weekdays and a little bit busier on the weekends. The price was reasonable for the quality. Had a fun selection of pieces!

It's pretty crowded I'll be honest, but the staff is really nice so it's definitely a homey feel. I'm glad that my first pottery experience was here. I did a beginner wheel course with a friend and also painted my own bowl and mug.

I am a big fan of painting pottery and was searching for a spot in Brookline to visit for my birthday. I figured a few hours of painting some pottery would be a relaxing way to spend my birthday. After doing my research, I settled on "The Clayroom". We headed over in the early afternoon on a Wednesday and the place was PACKED. I won't lie, it wasn't as relaxing as I had hoped. This was due to the total disorganization in the way the place is run. They literally had a high school / college kid responsible to run the entire place. To be fair, it wasn't the kid's fault. He did his best. However, the process is totally broken compared to other places I have been to paint pottery. Typically, they will get you the paint, brushes, and anything you need. Here, you have to scan a QR code to watch a video. Then, you have to go pick out the colors and fill a color palate/tray. Once you do that, you'll have to sift thru the pile of brushes that are clearly past their prime and should be replaced. It's hard to get crisp lines with brushes that are worn. The quality of the paint isn't up to snuff, in my view. In their video, they'll instruct you to paint it three times. (three coats) They instruct you to use a provided hairdryer between each coat. In my view, it's inferior paint. I have never had to apply multiple coats or use a hair dryer on pottery. I had come in hoping to paint a set of bowls for my German Shepherd. Sadly, they were out of anything that really interested me. I have plenty of plates, cups, and bowls from past pottery projects. The only thing that really caught my eye was the water pipes. They had a few styles to pick from and I settled on that. I typically like pottery that I can use. It comes with the down-stem and glass bowl. I paid around $50 for the unpainted water pipe. Studio time is offered in two-hour increments and you can pay ahead of time to secure your reservation. You will need a reservation. The entire process needs to be thought through and instituted in a better manner. The studio was just crowded, hot, and they were out of A LOT of different pottery pieces. You'll notice this when you look at the racks of finished projects. They also lacked any stamps or stencils, which is standard at most pottery studios. I will say they do allow you to come back to finish a project WITHOUT charging studio time. Also, the cost of the unpainted pottery includes the cost of being fired in the kiln. The studio was just way too crowded and the paint station was a total disorganized mess. I'm not surprised, one person cannot run the entire place on their own. It was also incredibly hot inside. If they could revamp their process, use higher quality paints, and staff up they'd have earned a higher rating. It was only relaxing once the place cleared out a bit. For full disclosure, many of the unpainted pieces have a stamp of "China" on the bottom. To me, that shows a lack of attention to quality. For the price, the quality of the pottery and materials should be much better. I will certainly come back to finish my piece and see if things go differently. I was just blown away by how disorganized and broken the entire process and experience was.

This place is great! I recommend reserving a spot to guarantee a spot on friday/Saturday evenings especially. Definetly recommend checking this location our for a super cool hang out, cute date night or even on a random afternoon for a relaxing art release! Their staff is patient with showing you what's what if you're new like we were. There is plenty of color varieties, and lots of items/shapes to choose from for painting. From small cute figurines or plates and cups for kids to portable coffee cups with lids and sushi platters for adults! They have an awesome Playlist playing in the background that makes the vibes as fun as the painting. They have the item ready in about 5 days and the pickup is super easy just make sure to have a pic of your items! The Staff was great for recommendations, questions and reminders! Can't wait to come back especially when friends and family visit.

I love this place! Been so many times and always have fun. So many different options to paint! It's way bigger than it looks and expands across different buildings. It's also BYOB and sometimes they even play music. It's also more affordable than other places like it in the area.

Had a blast painting some pots with my friends here! Definitely make a reservation before coming here, especially on the weekends, the place was constantly in motion and there were a ton of people. It was a super easy experience - you pick the piece you want to paint, and you go and grab the paints you want to use. They also provide brushes, sponges, fine detail paint tips, and hair dryers (for drying your layers). The staff were also super kind and helpful. With so many people there during the weekend the place felt a little cramped so would keep that in mind if you don't like smaller spaces. But overall I had a super fun time!

The Clayroom has become my new favorite hobby! I cannot stop coming here to paint pottery. My friends and I went once on a whim looking for new activities to do and ended going almost weekly. Everything is so reasonably priced! There are so many adorable pieces to chose from. My home decor is turning into all things I painted here. My friend even made a dainty chip and dip bowl for her mom for Mother's Day and it looks so professional but it's made with love instead of store bought. And if you love flowers as much as me then you'll be pleased to know they have a ton of unique vases to paint. It is a superior place to bring friends or a date! They let you bring wine and snacks. My friends and I have even ordered pizza to the location. The owner has been doing this forever and her son is often at the store. He is so charismatic and makes it such a comfortable fun vibe. I highly suggest the Clayroom as your next activity addition!

Overall, I had a lot of fun here! There is a studio fee of $10 per person on top of having to purchase the pottery item (expect to pay at least $20). There are so many to choose from such as plates, bowls, mugs, animal figures, and more. However, the organization wasn't the best when I visited. The staff were nice for the most part but didn't really seem enthusiastic to help. When a worker guided my party and another party to our seats, they had completely forgotten about my party after seating us. We could hear them provide an explanation to the other party in another room but they didn't bother to come back to us. When we had finished, I didn't realize I was overcharged until I had left. We had been charged the studio fee again despite us already paying for it through an online reservation. In the future, it would be best if they double checked if a reservation was made and/or go over the breakdown of our bill. I was refunded for the studio fee after explaining my situation.

My friend and her son treated me and my son here a month or so ago. We had the best time! You sign up for a 2 hour slot. Each party is seated separately. All tables are socially distanced. There are lots of pieces available for painting. You select your piece and then you select your paint. The art master in charge will help you get your paints and you select your brushes. The paint is thin so you need 3-5 coats. You can get as much paint as you need. For us we did one hour helping our kids (they are seven) and then we painted the last hour. The paint looks really faint even with lots of coats. You dry each layer with hair dryers. I was surprised with how vibrant it looks after being fired up! My son loves his piggy bank and I love my mug. Yes I painted the flowers. Yes it looks like a 7 trae old did it, not a 37 year old but that's ok! Can't wait to come back!

entire family went to Clayroom for some fun wow we had a blast both my 90 year old mothers enjoyed themselves !!! the staff was very helpful and they gave us plenty of time to paint our pieces we were all so excited to get our pieces after they were fired!! we can't wait to come back the owner Doug was super helpful!!

The prices here are quite reasonable and the turnaround time is great (pieces will be done 3-5 days after your visit). I haven't tried their throwing class yet so this is mainly a review of their pottery painting. As a heads-up, the owner and employees do not wear masks and do not strictly enforce mask-wearing-- while the tables are somewhat spaced apart, it is hard to socially distance in a lot of the common areas. Keep this in mind if you are COVID-cautious. I highly recommend making a reservation online especially if you plan to visit on a weekend or Friday evening. Reservations are $10/person with something around a $1 processing fee. Reservations are for 2 hours but I've been here twice so far and I haven't witnessed them kicking people out. They do let you come back and finish your pieces another day. The clay pieces range from $4-20+ (a 3 inch x 3 inch tile is $4), but I would say most pieces are in the $12-20 range. They have a bunch of items like mugs, bowls, plates, piggy banks, animal figures, vases, and a couple Star Wars-themed pieces. You end up paying the reservation fee and whatever piece(s) you choose to paint, so I think $20-30/session is typical. They let you use any of their paints and any of their tools (paintbrushes, sponges, tape, pencils, squirt bottles for detailing). I painted a pasta bowl ($17) and it took me about 2 hours. The employees were friendly and helpful with our questions. A lot of guests bring their own drinks, since the paint is washable and non-toxic. The fired pieces are food, dishwasher, and microwave safe. This place is super fun for family, friends, a date, or even to paint alone!

Went for pottery painting and had a great experience!! The $10 studio fee per person felt reasonably priced, and the cup I picked was $20. They give you more than enough time to paint and don't rush you, and there is plenty of seating and the ambience is very relaxing. The people are very friendly as well! The Clayroom is a magical nook in the outskirts of Boston that is secretly the perfect date for those reasonably artsy. It's reminiscent of the coloring activity you'd do back in elementary school but as an adult, it's both exciting and meditative. Reserve your date and time in advanced. They charge per pot/cup/mug (around $20) and you have access to their wide array of paint, tape, pencil and etching pen. They glaze your pot after and you pick it up in a week. 5/5 for the hidden gem it is. The man up front also exudes joy and warms up the entire room

We decided to take a pottery class to learn how to throw and make our own bowl for my birthday. I was nervous but our instructor was very informative and hands on. He crammed a lot of information into a two hour session, which was impressive. It make me want to seriously consider taking more lessons and make this a hobby. He also fixed any mistakes we had, so we didn't have a broken, wonky, weird bowl. I almost wish some of our quirks didn't get smoothed out, as my bfs bowl was taller at first, but was smoothed out and looked more traditional. Sometimes the quirks are what make it special so he was bummed they were worked out. But I highly recommend this class to anyone who is interested in learning, you'll get a lot out of this class! Now our experience for painting and being in the space was....not what I expected. It was cramped, loud and disorganized. In all honestly, this is not the place I would not recommend for a "girls night" or a large group. I did like the YouTube videos we could watch for different techniques and ideas, but trying to get a person working there to help us was pretty difficult. Now where this review went from 4 stars to 3 stars is when we came to pick up our items. We arrived and let them know they date of our paint so they knew where to look for our pieces. Mine was easy to find, but my bfs piece was lost. They looked top to bottom on the shelves and couldn't find it. And these young girls clearly had NO idea what to do. I imagine they dont lose pieces very often, and since we paid a money to handmade our items and paint them, its not as simple as just giving us another to paint and pick up. They were fumbling around, avoiding our gaze, trying to get a hold of the owner to ask him what to do. One tried to suggest that we probably already picked up our bowls, but I assured her we hadn't. While the two girls at the front were scrambling, I asked a different person if I could look for the piece myself. They were hesitant to let me, but I got the go ahead. I was able to find it within a couple minutes. Once we found it, they hung up the phone, bagged our pieces and sent us off. It was just such a disorganized mess, I was not a fan. The pieces they have pre-made look really nice so I would MAYBE give this another try if a friend wanted to go and paint pottery. But the space is tight, small, and loud. Not a relaxing experience if that's what you're looking for.

Wow, I truly forgot how fun it is to go to the Clayroom. My partner and I went on a whim for a date night, and we had a blast. We had two hours and we had such a blast. Cute place if you're looking for something to do with your artsy (or wanna be artsy) friends!!! I love the whole concept of paint-your-own-pottery because you get to create something on your own and keep the final product. Here's the run down: 1. First, choose your pottery. Their selection is impressive: everything from mugs, plates, vases, figurines- you name it! The total cost depends on the price of the item + an studio fee of $8. 2. Before you paint, the staff will kindly explain the process to you: how to get your paints, how to achieve different techniques, etc. Throughout the whole process, the staff are all super friendly and are more than happy to offer advice or guidance so you're happy with your work. 3. After that, paint away!! The great thing about this place is you can stay as long as you want. My friends and I were so entranced by our work that we stayed a solid 3 hours. 4. Once finished, you leave your work at the studio so they can put it in the kiln. It will be ready in less than a week! Artistic or not, this place is great for families, date nights, or just doing something unique with your friends. I love the whole process of choosing your object, stressing over what to paint, really getting into once you figured it out, and then excitedly coming back to see your finished product!! I will definitely come back when I'm feeling artsy :)

What an amazing experience and hospitality by Joanna, it's hard to find such level of professionalism nowadays. Travel all the way from New York to check this place out and did not disappoint. Learning was much easier than expected and ended up building some nice pieces by the end of the class. A must-do if you're in Boston.

this is a really cute spot to paint some pottery. they have a wide selection of things you can choose from to paint and they are pretty relaxed. they give a quick run down in the beginning and let you do your thing after. the price is a $10 fee for using the space + supplies and the price of the pottery item you selected. once you finish painting, you can pick up your piece 5 days after. it was very fun, but i did find it a bit expensive. however, i would recommend and return again.

The staff here do not care if your pieces break while they are handling them. Also be forewarned that the pieces are rarely ready when they say they will be. I called in advance before driving to the shop during rush hour and was told the pieces were ready, only to arrive and have them not be ready. As you can imagine I was frustrated and shared that with the employee. The employee then literally cried about it to her boss who then called me and tried to blame me for his unstable and incompetent worker who simply failed at her job that's all, nothing to cry about. On top of all this multiple pieces were broken while being handled by the employees. No apology was given and no cost was discounted. For these reason I write this 1 star review. Bring your business elsewhere and save yourself the unnecessary stress and inconvenience.

While visiting town we were looking for fun activities to do with the family including a 2 year old. We made an appointment and came in for a fun night. This is not the first paint your own pottery we have been to and found this location excellent. Our reservations required a payment of $10 studio fee, which is reasonable and usual for paint places. First, they had a very large selection of items to paint. All sizes and shapes, something for everyone to do. Pricing for the pieces was very good, better than pricing I am used to at my own local place. They also had plenty of paint, brushes and other supplies. Second, they had several spaces in which to paint. We were led downstairs to a room of our own, very appreciated with a small child in tow! Very clean and organized. Finally, our pieces were available in just a few days. Usually these take a week, but after only 3 days our pieces were available and looked great. All staff that I had contact with were very friendly. I would recommend this place for date night or family outing, all ages would enjoy.

It was my first time going to the Clayroom, and I want to go back there again to paint more pottery

As a birthday present, my boyfriend brought me to The Clayroom to pick out a piece of pottery and paint it with him. Obviously, I did all the planning and research ... and he just paid for it. I didn't know that reservations are recommended so when we called the day before they were unable to get us in. So we made a reservation for the very next day at 12:30 PM. I thought this activity would take an hour, maybe an hour and a half max. My boyfriend and I ended up spending almost 3 hours painting our pottery. Granted, we each picked two of the largest pieces that you can paint. I chose a cookie jar shaped like a cupcake and he picked a large wine vase. We had an absolute blast painting our pottery and the staff were very friendly and helpful. I haven't picked up our pieces yet because they are ready after five days. I will post pictures of our masterpieces once I pick them up.

Came here on a Wednesday afternoon. It's a smaller studio and it was somewhat busy but we sat immediately. Pay-by-the-piece + $10 studio fee. Just discovered on their website that fee drops to $5 on Monday nights? So see you then. Piece prices were ok (places like this are always somewhat expensive) but lots to choose from. Also pretty good paint selection but no puffy paint or speckled paint :( Glaze time is 5 days. Overall was a nice relaxing time and the young woman working was very polite even when I stayed longer than my friends to finish and she had to shuffle me around to accommodate people with reservations. Music could be better, but the sound of one radio in some distant location did make for a very cozy studio type feel. Overall good vibes I'll be back. Oh it's also a BYOB studio but I need all my senses for this let's be real

I was bored of hanging out in cafés and bars and really wanted something fun to do with friends ! Came across this place while taking a walk and decided to come over the weekend! I did not book a reservation but luckily got a table through walk-in! The in structure was really friendly and gave us clear details and information on how to start and what are the options and basically guided us and got us started! Very unprofessional, rude, and dismissive attitudes from the two girls working in the front. Douglas (the owner) really needs to hire better employees as they do not reflect him and his business accurately. I've met Douglas many times over the years and I have always enjoyed his jokes and joyous personality. Unfortunately, my recent visit was the opposite and I will not be returning.

The owner was completing shelving while guest were there and there was consistent loud banging through out the night that ruined the calm vibes. The pottery wasn't accurately labeled with prices and there was a paint shortage. Staff was incredibly rude to customers.

This place is pretty special. All clayrooms are cool. Select your piece, select your colors, paint! What sets this location apart is the owner. Every time I have been to this location, he has been personally welcoming painters, helping them get going, and running this studio very effectively. You can tell that he loves what he is doing. I actually forgot my wallet on this last trip. He told me not to worry about it, I can pay him later. Wow! such trust in his customers! And he said it with a very friendly tone. I was buying a take home kit for my 7 year old. He could have easily just taken back the ceramic ice cream cone in my shopping bag, but that would have been very upsetting for my daughter. She loves this place. I love that you can paint dishes that you can actually use, and the variety of colors and pieces is fantastic. This place isn't super fancy but it is a great experience. Highly recommend!

A pizza party for $20 bucks a person (8 person minimum) covered $12 in pottery (I think we actually got credited $16), all studio fees (normally $8pp, but lowered to $6pp for groups of 4 or more), pizza, and drinks. Pizza - one large pizza is ordered for every 4 painters, which comes out to 2 slices per person; with choice of pepperoni, cheese, or veggie. Drinks - lemonade and water, one of each (which I feared would be insufficient for our party of 10) With a reservation placed in advance, they were able to set aside a table for us where we could sit together as we worked on our individual projects. After we each picked our ceramic, a short pointer of the paints and hair dryer was provided. Three layers, blowing them dry between, to make for a more solid base color. The pencil markings burn off, so don't hesitate to draw your design on before painting it on. As it takes 5 days for the pieces to be fired in the kiln to give it the nice shiny dishwasher/microwave safe coating, come here only if it is convenient enough for you to return to Coolidge Corner to pick up your piece later. Tip: Wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty. 3.5 stars.

I had a Groupon for the Clayroom and checked their website to see that it was encouraged to make a reservations, so I did that! I went with friends on December 2014. We came in at 4:30 and was finished by 7 (spent 2.5 hours there). We (a group of 4) came in and was escorted to a table. It was extremely cold outside that day, so it was still pretty chilly inside as well, but the owner of the shop said it would get warmer soon as he was baking the finished pieces of potteries. He told us to choose what we wanted to paint first and then he would give us instructions since it was our first time there. Then we waited for around 10 to 15 minutes for the owner to give us instructions-not going to complain since the place was packed. The service was good. No one rushed us to hurry up even though it was pretty crowded. The workers were really talkative with one another. The only problem we experienced was not really knowing the exact amount for our piece of pottery. Yes, the Clayroom has labels on the racks, but they did not correspond to the pottery pieces when we came; they were probably moved around before and fixed after we picked our pieces. So at the end when we were calculating the total amount, some pieces we picked were supposedly more expensive than what we saw with the mismatched labels. To be sure, make sure to ask the workers there if the labels are not in the right place. The Clayroom is a great place to chill and to be creative. I would recommend.

(Though it came around 6:30-6:45, not right at 6 as we thought it would) -Helpful staff -Fun experience -Monday is half off the studio fee (normally $8 on top of the cost of your item) Cons: -Selection might be limited. It seems like they might go through basic pieces quickly as they did have a variety of more fanciful things in stock (donut and ice cream boxes, dragon and unicorn statues, etc.) -Space is a bit narrow so be careful maneuvering around the other painters -No aprons, so be aware of that when you decide what to wear (the paint is washable, but still) -Wish they had more "mini bottles" for detailing as I had to keep stealing one from the person next to me as we both wanted to use the same color for fine details

This little shop was great. Me and my family had a great time painting. It was great to relax and expend time.
