Went to Clay's Sports Cafe this past Saturday and had a good experience!
R wanted wings, and wanted to hear my thoughts about some of the places he was considering. Sadly, many of the places he considered served small wings, like they came from pigeons and not chickens. I suggested Clay's. I'd been there once before and had their wings, but he'd never had Clay's chicken wings.
Parking here can be an extreme challenge. There are many very popular businesses that share the decent sized free parking lot, but I didn't have an issue finding an open space at around 3 pm on Saturday.
We had skipped lunch and so we came here hungry. Not a very good idea to do that. We walked in, and one of the employees quickly came from behind the bar area toward the back of the restaurant, greeted us and told us that we could sit anywhere we wanted to sit. We chose a booth right next to the bar. Our server came to our table as we were settling in and told us that we could access the menu using the QR code that was on a placard on the table. It didn't take us very long to look at the menu and decide what we wanted, and, after a couple of minutes, our server came back to our table after R waved her over.
We ordered a basket of tater tots; 15 wings: 10 lemon pepper and 5 garlic parmesan; and a small Little Italy pizza (which had sausage, pepperoni, mushrooms, and extra cheese on it).
While we waited, we watched replays of college footballs games from this past bowl games season showing on the many large monitors hanging on the walls. It wasn't busy inside, and customers were sitting at the bar engaged in sports discussions with the employees, with other customers sitting in some of the booths that were placed against the walls. in the middle of the restaurant area were tables, which can probably be pushed together to accommodate large groups.
After about a 15 minute wait, our server brought a basket of tater tots. The generous portion of tots was piping hot. They were also nice and crunchy on the outside and light on the inside. Within the next two minutes, our server first brought us the wings, then the pizza. The wings were a little bigger than average and were fresh and hot. The lemon pepper flavor on the wings had a bold lemon and salt taste. The wings were slightly crispy on the outside, and the meat was definitely moist. Each of the wings had a very good amount of meat on them. The pizza was good: crispy crust great tasting meats, fresh mushrooms, and lots of cheese (mozzarella?). It came with some carrot and celery sticks, and we asked for blue cheese dressing to use as dips.
Our very attentive server was great throughout our meal, and she checked on us periodically to see if we needed refills or anything else. The restaurant was very clean. The food ranged from good to great. The prices are great. Clay's Sport Cafe has a variety of items on the menus, including pizzas, sandwiches, salads, lots of different appetizers and basket meals.
I feel our overall experience here was a 4.5, and I'm rounding it up to a 5!
