The 21 Best Restaurants In Margate

"Although they make a mean flat white and the crumpet sliders are incredibly moreish, the food at Cliffs isn’t even the best thing about it. Before we even tried the crunchy hash browns and the creamy mustard aioli that came drizzled on top, we decided this was a cafe we would come back to. Inside a record store on Margate’s Northdown Road, Cliffs is a fun, lively space with an excellent soundtrack of old classics playing. Baristas sing along to Dolly Parton, the huge floor-to-ceiling window upstairs floods the room with natural light, and records are displayed along the walls like a music hall of fame." - jake missing, daisy meager, sinead cranna, rianne shlebak

Margate’s Best Restaurants for Sunny Margate Weather in Kent, England - Eater London

"Another symbol of Margate’s new status as “Shoreditch-on-Sea” — Cliffs is a cafe, record shop, yoga studio, hair salon and coffee roastery. All in one! Sticking to the food, Cliffs does brunchy plates and speciality coffee; the kind of cafe in which one finds themselves surrounded by arty magazines on shelves and coffee table books on coffee tables. Sure there’s a good English breakfast, and scrambled eggs with soldiers, but there’s a kimchi cheese toastie, too, because they’re cool and delicious. Sandwich-wise, there’s a fish finger number and a vegan open sandwich, which is pretty much avocado on toast. Natch." - Adam Coghlan

EDIT: I really appreciated the restaurant reaching out. Customer service is brilliant. I would like to return next time I’m in Margate so we can rectify the last experience. Thank you Cliffs. Really disappointed with the breakfast here having read the good reviews. It was one of the worst meals we’ve had in a while. The refried beans were awful, way too heavy on the balsamic, the bread also tasted stale. The crumpet slider was also bad. The crumpet itself was not toasted and cold and it went a bit to heavy on the horseradish cream. I would recommend other places nearby for breakfast over this unfortunately. On a plus side - the girls were lovely behind the counter.

Our family stopped in for lunch while on holiday in Margate. Our server was incredibly kind and friendly. Our drinks and food were all SOOO delicious! I got the loaded hashbrowns and a matcha and both were so wonderful! All our kids and my husband really enjoyed their meal and looking at records upstairs! Oh! And the turmeric bun was so fabulous too! Highly recommend Cliffs!

Great place for breakfast. The meaty is delicious and a big portion. Very fresh and so tasty!! The coffee is also great. Friendly and welcoming staff. The perfect place to bring a dog or sit and relax with a book. The downstairs is abit more crowded now that you can’t use upstairs but there is a nice sofa by the window.

Didn’t come to eat - I was slightly taken by surprise to walk into a bustling hipster cafe - but to gorge on the second-hand vinyl. An absolutely fantastic collection of mostly mainstream music on two floors. Blonde on Blonde £20, a rarely seen Nanci Griffith later release £20, another Dylan (Knocked Out Loaded) £9, Sting’s first solo album £5. The vinyl is provided by Ghost Papa, a record shop across the road. Next time I’ll make time for brunch/lunch too. A thrilling discovery.

Came for breakfast, I had the cheesy beans on toast (an extra £1.40 for a sprinkling of cheese is pretty steep) and unfortunately my beans were cold. The waitress took it straight back and within a few minutes it was back, appeared to have been microwaved so the toast was pretty soggy. Husbands beans were cold too but he just ate his. When paying the bill disappointed that not even the service charge had been taken off. Pretty disappointing experience overall, food was nice but the above let it down.
