Clos Wine Shop

I love this little shop so much. The wine selection is vast and great, the potato chips are cheap, but more than anything, the staff are so so wonderful. Every time I'm in, I feel like I've learned something, and I feel like I am picking truly a favorite of someone in the shop. I am never disappointed! Thrilled to have this place in my little neighborhood.

The absolute most magical wine bar! Delightful selection of tinned fish and snacks for wine accompaniments, and a beautiful outdoor space to hang out, relax, and enjoy! Just look at this plating!

Can't say enough positive things about Clos! I've been coming to Clos for years--not only do they have an excellent, global selection of wines, but the owners and employees are all fantastic, friendly people that help anchor a sense of community in University Heights. Every wine on offer has been tasted by the team, so they'll be able to give you specific tasting notes and match you with a bottle to your liking. They also offer charcuterie boards, tinned fish, and other snacks, and even opened a basement annex where they sell local artist's crafts along with other quality goods. Would highly recommend their wine club membership, as well--excellent selections every month! Please check them out if you've never been!

I love this wine shop! They have a great selection and everyone that works there is very friendly. If you want suggestions they can definitely pair you with something you’ll like in your budget. They’re also great if you want to hang out there have some wine and some snack - they have a good selection of little nibbles to enjoy with your drinks. They also have a big selection of tinned fish. And a wine club if you want them to select a couple bottles a month for you. So glad to have found them in 2024 and excited to see them in 2025! Today they sold me this excellent bottle of champs for NYE and I’m loving it!

Nothing but good vibes at this wine shop / bar. The people here are great, they have an incredible selection of interesting wines and it’s such a quaint place to hang out at for this area. I am not a wine person, but I've always loved the "wine bar vibe" if that makes sense. This was seriously the most perfect example of that and more. The owners and staff are extremely knowledgeable and will help you pick exactly what you're looking for. We got a couple bottles, a seafood board, and the large charcuterie board for our group. Everything was delicious and the portions were good. Price-wise it was very worthy...I've definitely spent the same amount for a much lesser experience. This is a place that you will want to keep coming back to. We will definitely be back!

This is the epitome of neighborhood wine tasting room perfection! Clos is located in the heart of University Heights. It's a thoughtfully curated tasting room filled with unique bottles of bubbles, whites, oranges and reds. Nothing boring here. You can enjoy a class on the sunny patio or take a seat inside of the tasting room. Either way, you're in for a treat. Food options are minimal but they have some nice cheese boards. You can also start or end here and grab a bite in the nearby area. The staff here is so personable! They're there to serve you something you love and took the time to understand what we were looking for. Our server found a matching bottle that perfectly fit what we wanted! It's like she could read our mind! I'm pretty picky and rarely compelled to buy a bottle but I couldn't help grabbing two oranges. I love a unique orange and they had two that were just so special I couldn't resist. The prices were also great and so accessible. Absolutely obsessed with this little wine room!

Cute lil gem. A wine shop for natural and minimal-intervention wines. They have wines from everywhere. They serve wine by the glass too and there's also food to snack on. The staff is very knowledgeable and would love to tell you everything you want to know about wine.

A cute little wine shop with really nice people. Chilled here for a few hours with a couple of friends in the afternoon and had a great time just drinking wine and eating some snacks. They offer a variety of tinned/canned seafood including octopus and snails. Service was great. Just a heads up there is a $10 dollar corkage free. There was plenty of street parking available.

My friend and I went to Clos Wine Shop on a Saturday evening with our two dogs. I had read the positive reviews of this wine shop, and we always love to go to places that are dog friendly. The shop was packed on a Saturday night. We had planned to sit on the patio but it was full, so luckily our furry friends were welcomed indoors. The place was small but comfortable. There is a self-service station for water, a few tables, and a small bottle shop with other treats to buy, primarily tinned fish. Anyway, for a small shop, I felt they had a decent selection of wines by the glass: 5 reds and 5 whites. The service was friendly and very good. They were able to give us a good description of the wines on the menu. My friend tried a couple of the whites and found one she really liked. I enjoyed the Syrah Blend. However, I do wish that they had something fuller and dryer that I could have had for my next glass. We shared a cheese board and a bag of the black truffle chips. We were hungry so I do wish there had been a bit more cheese or charcuterie to choose from, though the truffle chips were delicious. I purchased a few bags to take with me. My friend bought a bottle of wine that she had been enjoying to take with her. I noticed that if you buy a bottle from them and drink it there, they charge a corkage fee. There may be some regulation I don't understand, but I never pay a corkage feel when I buy wine at a restaurant or winery. For that reason, I would probably drink by the glass only when going there. All in all, we had a lovely evening there and I would definitely go back to see which wines are on their menu next time.

Clos Wine shop is amazing. I went on a weeknight and it wasn't crazy busy. It was nice and quiet. If you don't know what to order the server does an amazing job in recommending flavorful wine. Would def go again !

They have an amazing selection of wine inside and everything on the tasting menu is fairly priced. I love that they have chilled red wine because it's so hot outside. The cheese board is great and you can buy extra chocolate or snacks to add to it inside. The service is great, they have indoor and outdoor and it's dog friendly.

This place is really cool, I popped in today to check it out. I ended up purchasing a couple bottles of wine and chocolates. I really enjoyed the knowledge of Margo, who was running the place. She knew exactly what I needed. They have a nice patio and heaters to enjoy the bottle of wine on site. They have some olives, canned fish, chocolates, etc available as well. I would have liked to seen some fresh cheeses or fruits available. I would have purchased to enjoy with my wine. All in all, satisfied and will be coming back for all my wine purchases. Cheers !

OMG. What a fun hole-in-the-wall spot. I know very little about wine, but visited Clos for a casual drink with a friend. Our server was amazing and so helpful in helping the 2 of us pick the best wine for our tastes, and she nailed it both times! Seating is very mellow and it's a pretty small place. Atmosphere is cute, service was great, and wine was perfect.

A wonderful little bottle shop in University Heights. Good selection of many types of wines, and clearly labeled with characteristics and tasting notes so you can select a great bottle for your preferences. But if you have trouble picking, the staff are literally amazing and will steer you in the correct direction. The prices are reasonable too! You can drink the bottle in the store for a corkage fee, or they have select wines by the glass. They also sell various snacks and pairing items for the wines. Truly a neighborhood gem!

I love going here for their tin fish. The workers are also super great with recommending bottles. I just hate the corkage fee.

Loved this place! It is the cutest locally owned wine shop in our area (university heights). You can buy wine to go or buy a bottle or glass to drink there. If you buy a bottle, there is a $10 corkage fee. They are super knowledgeable and friendly! 2 tables inside and seating outside on the front porch. Very cute! They have a few food items as well. Tinned fish and charcuterie, among a few other items. We got a charcuterie with 2 cheeses and two meats. It was so cute and perfect with the bottle of wine we chose. We will definitely be back!

Came here with a friend on a Friday evening and had a lovely time. This shop is very cozy and inviting with a great selection of wine and tapas to peruse. Not a huge wine connoisseur so Emily helped us pick a suitable blend for our table. It was delicious. She also had nice recommendations for different types of tinned fish we should try. Loved the smoked trout! I hope to go back soon :)

Awesome ambiance with a fantastic variety of wines. Great light gourmet dishes that pair very well with their wines. Service is excellent and the staff and owners are super efficient and attentive. Really recommend this place!

Such a cute spot! The owners are so friendly and attentive. I haven't sat for a glass/bottle of wine, but am looking forward to it! The $10 corkage fee for enjoying a bottle there gave me pause, so I think I'll opt for glasses of wine to try more of a variety. If you like tinned fish, this is a great spot to get great quality tinned fish.

This is such a cute place. Parking is a bit annoying but it's worth going. They are super helpful and answer any questions you have. I've been there a few times and I've tried different things (cheese boards) (wines) I can say I enjoyed it all very much.

We found this little gem of a wine shop after having out pups denied entry into a big courtyard bar establishment nearby after having lunch at a different brewery. We wanted to hang out outside and have one more beverage and wandered down the street. This place is so cute with its covered porch. It was outdoors with shade, and they have a really nice unique bottle selection as well as wines by the glass. We each ordered a glass of wine and the server was so friendly and nice. Happily explaining the different glass wines. We loved it so much, we all got a second glass to enjoy more time there. We didn't get to try any yet, but a neighboring table got a cheese plate that looked amazing. As we left we all bought a couple bottles to take home.

Fantastic shop I found recently in University Heights while making some time for a Yelp event...shopping local is always an adventure and this one transported me to my own country as I was able to buy some nice products to make tapas. Expensive, yes, but unique and beautifully wrapped. After all, I was getting some octopus and other seafood in sophisticated cans as part of a gift pack for my guy. I was surprised to see how many Spanish and Portuguese items they sell, also French and Italian. So it is not only a cute wine shop but the perfect gift shop for edible small items too. I like their patio at the entrance, very cozy and cute. Excellent customer service. I got all my questions answered.

Clos is such a wonderful neighborhood gem. The service is always stellar and the new food items are divine. I really enjoyed the homemade humus (I'm not normally a humus person but I couldn't stop eating it!) Wine is great as always. Big selection of natural wine and they have chilled reds which we love. They have a nice selection of non alcoholic wine as well which I really appreciate being pregnant especially because it allows me to still feel like I'm having a wine tasting experience with my husband.

Really cute wine shop in University Heights. I've been trying to branch out from California cabs and Clos had a lot of interesting wines to choose from along with items to enjoy wine with like canned seafood, chocolates, pickles. Paul was extremely knowledgeable in helping me pick out a bottle to share with friends. All I had to do was describe what I liked in wines and Paul picked a bottle I'm really excited to try. I also got a glass of rose and red to enjoy before dinner along with olives. Olives were delicious! I'm really looking forward to returning for other interesting bottles of wine.

Got to order a glass of wine and sit on their patio this time! The patio is actually decently large and spills over to the salon next door where I saw some ladies enjoying a glass of wine while they were getting their hair done. They have a range of white, orange and red wine by the glass. When I ordered, I was pleasantly surprised that it included complimentary crackers and olives. Service was friendly as always.

We found our new favorite wine spot! Everything here was excellent, from the wine to the snacks to the vibe to the service. The service was really spectacular, everyone is so kind and passionate about their work. We love you CLOS !

My wife and I stopped in here and were welcomed with some of the best customer service I've ever seen. So friendly, inviting and knowledgeable. Paul and Jury (sorry if spelling is wrong) are the best! We got a meat and cheese board plus a trout pate plate and it was incredible. I could hangout here all day.

I just have to say that this has to be one of my new favorite places in San Diego.. EASILY. Owned by such a cute and friendly couple from NY, Clos Wine Shop really has so much charm to it in addition to such good wine. There is a great selection of different wine bottles you can take home or enjoy there with a $10 corking fee, which is extremely worth it in my opinion. A lot of the bottles selected here are very affordable as well and start around the $15 range, which is really nice too. You can also purchase by the glass if that floats your boat! There is an outside patio right in front where you can enjoy wine and other available wine pairing foods at. Their wine pairing meals are also very well presented and delicious--I would recommend the Patagonia Paprika Mackerel as well as the Smoked Mussels. The seating arrangements are on the smaller side, so I highly recommend catching up with a friend or with a small group here. It's definitely a more intimate vibe, which I love. Also, at night, they turn on their dangling lights, which is really cute too. I honestly can't emphasize enough how great this place is. Clos Wine Shop, San Diego is very lucky to have you! :)

The sweetest neighborhood wine shop run by the loveliest people. They have a wide range of wines inside, largely organic (not sure if all are), very reasonably priced, and wines by the glass to drink on their front patio. It's on the smaller side, but I feel it adds to the charm. It's definitely become an instant favorite. This is such a great area of San Diego already, and it was wonderful to see this new place added to the list of local places to visit.

Turned me from someone who occasionally drinks wine into a member. The wine, chocolate, and tin fish selection are excellent and each wine has a hand written note on what to expect from the bottle. The staff is attentive, caring, knowledgeable, and just overall awesome. If you're into natural wine, this is the place to go.

Drove 35 minutes to Clos because they stock a lovely nonalcoholic Riesling that I learned about from a som at a 2* NYC Michelin restaurant. There, I discovered a charming wine shop with a finely curated selection! San Diego is lucky to have this knowleagable owner who does the hard work for us =)

Love this cute wine shop! My friend and I were walking down the block when we spontaneously decided to come in. The owners, a lovely couple, greeted us and explained their menu. We saw two different skin-contact wines on there, and since we both never tried that before, we ordered both. Although I imagined them to be more orange-hued, I ended up liking the white one more, and my friend liked the red one, so all worked out. The only thing I wish they had was a tasting option where we can try a wider selection with smaller pours. For food, we shared a charcuterie board with 2 meats and 2 cheeses. Don't remember the names of anything, but per their recommendation, we got a spicy pork and a type of beef for the meats, and a soft (I think cows?) and a harder (sheeps?) cheese. Either way, it was a great variety. And even though I have had many charcuterie boards before, everything I've tried during my visit was new and exciting. Kudos to them for opening a fun and unique wine bar. I'll definitely be back!

Very cute wine shop in university heights that specializes in natural and organic wine. They have a great selection of interesting imported and domestic wines. I recently ordered 4 bottles of wine online and they made the process so easily. I chose a pick up time and it was ready and labeled for me in 2 bags at the counter. I had a very brief interaction with staff when I picked up my wine but they were very friendly and welcoming. You can also enjoy wine there during non-covid times and they have a cute little patio. The hardest part is choosing a wine from their extensive and unique selection.

Absolutely brilliant. Lovely people, small quaint comfy patio and adorable shop with organised sections of everything you're looking for, including some Spanish tinned snacks and potato chips. Lovely people. Total gem.

Came here last week. The guy was not friendly at all. He seemed like he was bothered by me. Lady was so friendly. It's so sad that one employee can ruin the experience I love this place but won't be coming back. I bought a bottle from them and they charged $10 for them to open the bottle you buy at their shop which is kinda dumb your buying from them not bringing it from outside I would understand if I bring my own bottle and you charge a fee to open but I bought it from you. Over all not a good experience. So sad because the place is beautiful

Stumbled upon this wine shop on a casual stroll and was so impressed by this local small business. Their large wine selection was organized intuitively and labeled clearly in a bright, vibrant shop space. The owners are very friendly and knowledgeable of every single bottle in the shop. We bought 4 bottles and plan to come back again soon!

Clos wine shop is just the loveliest little shop. It is SO lovely with such a great selection of natural wines, we drive from carlsbad down to pick out our goodies. The owners are soooo incredibly sweet. Our first time in and they really helped guide us and recommended some really amazing wines. They have an adorable front patio that makes you want to just relax and have a glass of vino. I am SO happy we discovered clos wine shop! It will for sure be our go to for the best natural wines 100%.

I was looking for wine shops that sold natural wines & orange wine in the area and happened to stumble across this gem. We're big fans of the hermit ram wines & saw it in one of the older pictures and came in hopes that they would still carry it. The vibe of the store is super cute & they have an outside patio in the front where you can hang out and enjoy your wine. The inside of the shop is very well organized too by types of wine/ sake & you can tell the selection was intentionally curated. They also sell small snacks like canned fish, olives, chips, chocolates etc. The staff are super sweet & friendly and it's the type of place where you leave smiling after every interaction. Highly recommend!

My golden retriever Henri says this place is puptastic! Got a nice bottle of savignon blanc from there today. Will go back!

This is the place you want to be. An excellent, diverse selection of wines that change often enough that it never feels mundane, but not so often that you can't develop favorites. Paul and Juerie are the most kind and wonderful people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. They make you feel like family the moment you walk in, and greet you like an old friend whenever you return. Their patio is the perfect spot for a cute date or to share a laugh with old friends, and their wine club is a monthly adventure that should never be missed. So lucky to have them in my neighborhood

What an awesome local wine shop! We stopped in today after hearing about their biodynamic selection, and I could not have been more pleased! The owner was SO incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and welcoming, explaining the layout of the shop and spending time to offer recommendations depending on our current taste. I will absolutely be back & highly recommend for anyone looking to pick up a great (and affordable) bottle!

Holy cannoli guacamole, this place is EXACTLY what my husband and I wanted to find! We've been searching for a nook like this in San Diego for the past five years! We ordered a bottle of red, a small charcuterie board & a glass of champagne. The patio outside was perfectly shaded for us and our pup to enjoy! The owners (a husband and wife duo) were so kind, you can tell they've poured so much love into this business. I plan to go back with my laptop and set up for a work day/lunch!
