Seattle Restaurants and Breweries with Great Patios for Outdoor Dining

"Cloudburst Brewing’s taproom on Shilshole Avenue in Ballard serves a selection of the brewery’s award-winning beers along with a food truck serving dumplings, noodles, and cucumber salad from Sichuan-Yunnan restaurant Plenty of Clouds. There’s a spacious, airy patio, most of which is covered, making it perfect for both sunny and rainy days. Note that unlike many of the neighborhood’s other breweries, Cloudburst is 21+ only." - Harry Cheadle, Jade Yamazaki Stewart, Eater Staff

Google
i worked with the staff to create a beer label design and i just wanted to share my experience. i had such a wonderful time working with these folks. sometimes as an artist you go and just do a job, and that’s fine - but i feel like cloudburst really celebrated me and my community, and also acknowledged a lot of what we are going thru in these times. i felt so seen and they did a wonderful job with their pride event - all the intentions behind it were really really felt. the workers and the owner were sooo nice and friendly! also, the beer the design was for (pure possibility) was SO was delicious - and hop water?! i haven’t stopped thinking about it since! these folks are great and make great beer. 🎉

Google
Cloudburst is excellent ( ` -´ )bイイネッ✨! Don't miss, try a few beers with half-pours to find your favorite. Strutting their stuff as usual wtih tasty IPAs 🧡 and stellar dark beers 🖤 The Ballard location reminds of Great Notion in PDX, wtih a nice garden outdoor area, with super warm heat lamps. The noodle dumpling food truck is outstanding too, a big plus as well. Parking is a little bit better than downtown too, and you can just enjoy walking around Ballard too, checking out other shops. Great spot (。•̀ᴗ-)و ̑̑✧

Google
Great beer, the food truck has a nice selection of food options, and the covered patio is great!

Google
The location is interesting, just outside of the main area with all the shops and bars and whatnot. There’s not much seating, some of it indoors and some of it outdoors, but I’ve never had trouble finding a seat. The food from the food truck was delicious and amazing and I crave it regularly. The beer is also very good. The to-go beers are super expensive but also yummy.

Google
Perfectly decent spot for a pint, with some great beers on tap. However they don’t do tasters (even if it is just you and one other table). Feel like that defeats the point of going to a microbrewery. They put so much effort into these little flavor guides but a lot of that could be solved if you let people taste a sip of beer beforehand. The food truck was also really below average so that doesn’t help. Overall if you know what beer you want and you’re not too hungry I would recommend!

Google
Well the beer is really good. But they got me this time with the food - aka: the food truck living inside the brewery. I mean look at those pictures. Fresh and so tasty . Dogs are welcome too :) . The patio is mainly shaded and in a “back alley” type of spot. Makes it even cooler in my mind .

A bit late to the review for some drinks back in May'23. Street parking available. We decided to grab a quick brew at the bar. Beers were good and staff was friendly. Quite a bit of seating inside and outside. We came at a non-busy time, so it was nice.

Google
I was not treated well. I felt like I was getting the stink eye or something. Strange service atmosphere. Almost felt like I didn't belong. The beer was good, and I was asked how I was but not after I was glared at. I guess I was just coming off of the Burke, but I was bumped into by people passing through, in an agressive way and ultimately felt unwelcomed by staff. Not sure if they think its a special place for locals or something. Which is funny because I am a local. I think I may pass on coming back, just didn't seem like I was welcomed here. Sad since I just want to love the place, but never been treated this way at other breweries.

Yelp
I needed help picking a cider and the bartender suggested a black berry one. It was perfectly crisp and sweet! I love how lgbtq friendly this establishment is. It had the perfect amount of shade outside so it wasn't too hot. I would love to come back here and try the other options.

Yelp
Modern and spacious beer garden with an Asian food truck parked inside. A great place to get a little sunlight in between the alley while still having coverage in case it rains.

Yelp
I really want to love this brewery because the beer is so damn good. If I was grading this on beer alone it would be an easy 5 stars. Some of the best IPAs you can get anywhere. However it comes at a cost. When I visit a brewery (200+ and counting) I have come to expect a certain Brewery Vibe with great service and people that are just happy be together drinking craft beer. On my three visits to Cloudburst I have left disappointed. Not by the beer (which is always excellent) but by very poor service. Every time I have been there I feel a sense of arrogance from the severs who do not have the friendly welcoming attitude that I have come to expect from a brewery. Cloudburst does not sell flights or give tasters of their beers, which although very rare is their right to do so. What I am troubled by though, is the condescending manner in which the servers treat their customers; as if they don't even really want us there. I have experienced this same attitude every time I have been there by multiple bartenders. Sadly, I have made the decision that I will not visit Cloudburst on my next visits to Seattle since there are so many other excellent breweries that have exceptional beer, service and vibe. Georgetown, Freemont and Ruben's will all give you a much better brewery experience than Cloudburst will.

Yelp
Fun little brewery with some amazing beer and very friendly staff who was helpful with answering questions (I learned what a "wet" IPA is) and making recommendations. We also really enjoyed the food from the resident food cart (the potstickers in chili oil were delicious)! Next time I'm in Seattle, I'll be back!

Yelp
A cute brewery nestled right into the heart of Ballard -- it's very unassuming from the outside, but the space itself it so cute once you head inside! I'm generally a big fan of Cloudburst Brewing and was excited to stop by for a chill Sunday afternoon. They have a cute outdoor patio with tons of tables and a bar inside -- the menu is fairly limited, but I do like a lot of their beers on tap. They're such an unpretentious spot and really loved the pale ales they had here. They have a food truck, with lots of small bites -- I got the 'special treat' and highly recommend. I'll be back soon!

Yelp
One of my favorite breweries in Seattle! So thrilled with the Shilshole location opening and the close proximity to the Burke Gilman bike trail. Thanks to the new location I was able to get several visits in to Cloudburst! Their beers are delicious, hazy and so fresh! The tap list always delivers, especially if you are an IPA lover like me! My husband and I split schooners, so we are able to try everything on tap!! On location they have a great food truck, which is always appreciated in a day drinking session! The majority of the tables are outside, pretty much covered and even have heaters. Every season is enjoyable, but Summertime is my favorite time to visit the taproom. Parking is always a challenge, so I love to go there during the spring and summer when I can ride my bike. I love Cloudburst beer! Seattle staple!

Yelp
Chill little brewery in Ballard with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. We stopped by for a quick beer while checking out the neighborhood. We had the Line Starts Here (dark mild) which tasted like a mild stout but carbonated. I really enjoyed it! I would definitely come back to try some different beers. They also have a food truck outside selling noodles/dumplings.

Yelp
Came here for a couple drinks and a quick snack before dinner and we were not disappointed It was a little cold out so we were so relieved when we showed up to not only no crowd, but also heatlamps overhead to keep us nice and toasty As a fan of hazy IPAs, I tried the Take a Look IPA for m first pour...and my second I also tasted the Chunderdome IPA and although tasty, still preferred the juiciness of the Take a Look - heavy rec As per usual when enjoying good drinks with good company, our dinner reservation came sooner than expected and didn't have a chance to try more I'll definitely be back to test the other taps - cheers, Cloudburst!

Yelp
I love this second location that opened up for Cloudburst Brewing! I went to the original location several times and always loved the beer I got there. So this other location definitely holds up. I don't know if I would say parking is easier... because I really felt like it wasn't but I knew it was worth walking for! I had two Cloudburst beers at this brewery. One was the Timbo Pilsner which was fantastic! I always loved their pilsners! The second one was a type of beer style I didn't often come across.. a Kellerbier by the name of Entshuldigung. Definitely different(but fantastic)but like all my Cloudburst Brewing visits the beer here has never disappointed me!

Yelp
This is my go to brewery near Market street in Ballard. Good beer, good food truck, ceded outdoor seating and dog friendly.

Yelp
Amazing beer--some of the best IPAs. The dumplings and rice bowl from the Dump Truck were excellent.

Yelp
Amazing, interesting beers with helpful staff who will help you figure out what you might like. Also love the food truck that's in their outdoor area, has delicious snacks or full on meals that you can eat inside or in their outdoor area on their cute benches! One of my favorite breweries in the greater Seattle area!

Yelp
What a cute set up they have here! I like that this place is less busting with people than some of the other breweries in Ballard. Love all the cute little French bistro furniture they have with heat lamps. Not all tables have heaters and it can get a little chilly but I think that's just nature telling you need to drink more beer ;) They take reservations and have an efficient system going. Stop in for some delicious beers and they have the plenty of clouds food truck right inside it.

Yelp
I've always meant to spend more time at Cloudburst but the location of the downtown spot is not convenient for me. I think I made it once quite awhile ago. Ballard is much easier to access and provides for better brewery hopping, even better you can often score free parking. I came across this location accidentally when driving around the area. I think it was shortly before I finished the Ballard Brewery Passport, I hadn't even heard it was here and I feel like I do a decent job of keeping up on local brewery news. Since it's not on the passport it feels even more like a well kept secret. I had hoped that this location had an indoor seating area I might be able to take advantage of Phase 2, but did not find this to be the case. The outdoor area is smaller than many in the area which makes me it feel more intimate and like a better place to spend a lazy afternoon. The small size does make it seem like reservations are often required. The hostess made us feel like we may not have been able to get a table at 1:15 pm on a Friday in the future if we do not plan ahead. The outdoor area did appear to have a fair amount of options for outdoor heat, but these were not turned on during our visit. It was dry out, but most areas appeared to be covered. Like most breweries these days they are using a QR system to share their menus. The QR menu did not provide as much details as actually going to look at the board behind the counter and appeared to have a few different options. I appreciate that one of their posted covid rules is that they are not currently allowing children, it just seems so odd to me that people would choose to bring their children to a brewery in a pandemic but to each their own. In the future do be aware that they have a bathroom stall consisting of a toilet and a changing table (also one that is just a toilet and one that is just a urinal). There's probably a lot more hand washing going on with the bathroom sinks in an area visible to more people. My beers were tasty. There were a lot of IPAs on the menu. Most were around 6 or 7$. They had a few doubles and triples. I look forward to trying the food truck on my next visit. Plenty of clouds has a silky chickpea curd I am dying to try and is the regular food truck for this brewery.

Yelp
Recently, I was invited to a pub crawl by some coworkers. I haven't been to that area of town in years, so I thought it may be a treat. My first impression of CLOUDBURST was that, in good weather, this place must be VERY cool. It is focused more on an open-air type of environment with a food truck type kitchen right in the courtyard. The seating is basic, and the decor is a bit bland as well. The thing I found disappointing was that it seemed to be lacking in their selection of beers for the season. During the winter months, most places change over to heavier beers such as stouts. They were more focused on barleywines instead, which just seemed like a compromise. All in all, I would recommend this place in better weather, and when the seasonal selection better fits your time there.

Yelp
So happy Cloudburst opened a location in Ballard! You can grab beer to go, or order beer (with a mask on!) and sit in the "beer garden" area. It's fully covered so you don't need to worry about the rain, and they should have heat lamps now, we went mid October and they said they'd be installing them soon. You can make reservations in advance which I recommend since there isn't a ton of seating, and once you're there, there are QR codes to scan for the beer menu and food menu from the Plenty of Clouds Dump Truck. For beer, you go to the counter to order, pick up and pay. For food, you have the option of getting it to go, or check off that you're eating at Cloudburst. It was super easy to order online, and the best part was how seriously they took nut allergies, as you can add "nut allergy" as an option of every single dish, and they even came to our table to confirm the severity of nut allergies. We paid for our food online, and they brought the food to us, and we were able to enjoy dinner with our beers! The food was delicious, loved the dumplings and the sandwich the best!

Yelp
Unfortunately I'll never know what your beer tasted like because of your ridiculous unwarranted rule of no kids? Real snooty to decide ya want to act like a full service bar... your a brewery for Christ's sake!.. your not supposed to be pretentious! It doesn't seem like the smartest idea either to limit your potential sales to ppl with no kids.. if you ask any waiter/server families always end up spending more money & will tip well!! I've easily been to over a 100 breweries up and down the west coast and this is the 1st place that's ever had a no kids rule. Get over yourselves and your pretentious attitude.

Yelp
Love the food and drinks here. I've never had a beer I haven't liked- normally go for lighter beers, happy little clouds FTW. The Dump Truck is soooo tasty too for a quick bite I love the pork dumplings

Yelp
Great beer, cute place, food truck serving tasty Asian food. Parking isn't the worst in Ballard.

Daren D.

Yelp
So I met my nephew here for a beer and some dinner. It's wet hop season, so the beer list had many options available. I chose the Shredded Wettuce IPA, which was outstanding. For dinner we each had the Dan Dan noodles from the resident food truck. Those rocked! It's nice that vegan options are readily available in this area of Seattle. Will definitely go back next time I'm in town!

Will K.

Yelp
The beer: decent, not amazing The food: see above The service: friendly enough, but not offering samples is a real buzzkill

A U.

Yelp
On Yelp they claim this is "Good for Kids" but they are actually 21+. The bartender was very helpful though. Cloudburst beers are really good. I'm disappointed we didn't get to hang at the brewery and try out the food truck - please change what you advertise on Yelp!

Yelp
Cloudburst on Shilshole is the perfect place to go for a covid-friendly day out. Their outdoor accommodations are top notch, the staff is incredibly friendly, and the beer is yummy! If you bring your dog along they will be treated like the four-legged kings and queens they are! Our pup was spoiled with lots of pets, her own water dish, a treat, and a blanket to keep her off the cold ground! She loved it!!!

Andrew D.

Yelp
Not only is this a walk across the street, the staff and beer are always awesome. Always something on tap for everyone. Now make a King Gizzard themed beer. Nonagon Infinity red ale? Maybe!
google avatar

Ken W.

Yelp
Nice outdoor seating with a delicious food truck serving Asian noodles and small plates! We tried the Pilsner, Hazy IPA, and Cider. All were great - no taste's allowed so order well.
google avatar

Thomas H.

Yelp
This location has a really nice vibe. The food truck Dump Truck by Plenty of Clouds adds an extra bonus to the whole place. The entire place is charming to say the least. Great beers! It's a great place to enjoy a nice afternoon in good company. Totally recommend it!
google avatar

Felix C.

Yelp
Great setup. I recommend making a reservation on the website. The reservation was for 75 minutes which was a perfect time to have two rounds and snack on some food. Cloudburst makes some great beers so it was a nice chance to hang out. Dogs are allowed if they are well behaved. Lastly, they have a food truck from Plenty of Clouds which provides Sichuan and Yunnan style Chinese food. They have noodles and dumplings which are great.
google avatar

Keely W.

Yelp
They have such good beer, I feel blessed they opened this location in Ballard. Plus it doesn't hurt to have Plenty of Clouds right there in the beer garden. My only ask is that they bring in some heaters. It's only getting colder in Seattle and we want to come here in the winter!
google avatar

Osvaldo S.

Yelp
Decent beers- mainly ipas- but the star of the show is their food truck. Great thai food! Good location but parking can be tricky.
google avatar

Kristy B.

Yelp
One of my favorite happy hour spots. Cloudburst's beer speaks for itself. It's great beer and you're going to love it or not but the space they've created on Shilshole is very cool and has a dedicated dumpling food truck that is also amazing. Put in reservation first to make sure they have room.
google avatar

Sarah R.

Yelp
Fantastic option for covid outdoor dining. There are tents, heaters, and there's enough space between groups that it feels relatively safe. Beer/cider offerings were on point, and I also enjoyed the food truck parked in front. Great experience!

Rob F.

Yelp
The old location was great but the new location has all of the good stuff from the old location PLUS OUTDOOR SEATING. It is a no brainer that craft beer lovers come here. To go is also an option. Dog friendly. Plenty of Clouds is the food truck. It is amazing!!! Get the Mala Noodles.

Dyson L.

Yelp
First off, I really enjoy Cloudburst beer and have been visiting them since I moved to Seattle over 3 years ago. This is why it disappoints me that your doorman at this location in Ballard has ruined your brand for me and my friends. We tried going there during the heat wave a couple of weeks ago (June 26th) only to be denied at the door and left with a bad taste in our mouth. We attempted to check in for our reservation but were told our newborn baby was not allowed due to their liquor license. Although not ideal, I understand the license does not allow it. However, what was said next was completely unprofessional and uncalled for. The doorman laughed and sarcastically said, "you can keep your baby in the car". Really, it's 110 outside??? He then proceeded to tell us "both of our locations do not allow children and they never will." Well, that's sad to hear Cloudburst will "never allow children". After that interaction I don't think I would want to visit Cloudburst again, even without my child. Your beer is really good but customer service is lacking. If management is reading this I would try and make your front of house more warm and professional like other breweries in the area.

Kim S.

Yelp
This a great spot with nice seating options and super thoughtful employees. Customer service is fantastic! Kristina accommodated our wishes perfectly. We will be back!

Stella L.

Yelp
Love Cloudburst! I don't get over here as often as I would like, but go every chance I get. Good beer and good people with plenty of outside seating.
google avatar

Jonathan M.

Yelp
The cider was good. Seasonal though so I have no idea how long it will be there. The food truck was bad. All pork items...except one tiny salad that was super spicy...way more than it needed to be or was wanted. bathrooms are new and clean. So is the gravel under the picnic tables. There is a 90 minute limit stay at the tables and they give you a ten minute warning before you have to leave...even if there are open tables around. Dog friendly. Only one dog fight while we were there and it was more of a growling ten seconds with gravel moving around under the table. Some tables are super sunny, but most have shade by 5pm. Some tables have umbrellas. Staff wears masks. You can scan the QR code to see the menu or there are some on the food truck and on counter where you order alcohol. They don't seem to care if you bring desserts from elsewhere. (^: Free parking is on 24th Ave to the North about 5 blocks walk to Cloudburst. Picnic tables are not very comfy, but we were only there for 90 minutes anyway.

Brett W.

Yelp
Great beer, but I couldn't believe they were selling 4 packs for $17-$22. I get that this is Seattle, but still kinda ridiculous for beer to go. Overall, still a cool brewery with good beer but be prepared to spend a bit more if stopping there.
