"After five years holding down the fort in Belltown near Pike Place Market, I've watched the brewery open a new Ballard location at 5456 Shilshole Ave for to‑go orders while keeping its production facility and original taproom in Belltown. The Ballard outpost is housed in an roughly 80‑year‑old warehouse the brewery describes as “old and shitty,” with tons of “soul, character, and history,” and will feature a beer garden with pop‑up tents (perhaps as soon as next week); founder Steve Luke says he’ll run the space reservation‑only to avoid long lines and crowds and will stick to outside seating only at first. Founded in 2015 by Luke, formerly the experimental brewer for Elysian Brewing, Cloudburst is known for a wide selection of bright, seasonal IPAs that have appeared on many local taps. During the COVID‑19 pandemic the brewery began canning for the first time (including newer selections such as That’s Bolshevik, a baltic porter), now owns its own canning line, and plans to continue canning post‑pandemic with cans available at both locations and some local restaurants and bottle shops. Most of the same beer selection will be available for curbside pickup at Belltown and Ballard, some fermentation will eventually happen at the new spot, and Luke emphasizes that small breweries will need to evolve quickly to survive under the current uncertainties." - Gabe Guarente
