Seafood, Coconut Curries, and Lots of Fried Snacks Await in Sri Lanka | Eater

"A celebration of Northern Sri Lankan heat and spice: go for a spicy prawn curry with idiyappam (steamed rice noodles pressed into mats) or mutton bone rasam (a peppery, tangy goat broth); after dinner, explore the adjoining bunkers—structures once used during the civil war that now house impressive galleries." - Zinara Rathnayake

It was a lot better last time I went. Instead of having first come first seating they had reserved seating before they let everyone in so I had to sit upstairs with a bad knee and tripped at the bottom stair which everyone thought I was drunk. It would have been better if the upstairs bar was open because I wouldn't had to go downstairs to get a drink. This place has lost their touch period.

Club Fox is such a cool little spot for live music. It’s a smaller club, but it’s set up really well. There’s a good-sized dance floor up front, tables around the edges if you want to sit and chill, and even some seating upstairs where you can look down over the balcony. The sound system is great—everything was clear and loud—and the stage has plenty of room for bands of all sizes. There’s also a bar, and the bartenders the night we went were awesome. Super friendly and kept the drinks coming with a smile. One of the best things is the location. It’s right downtown, just a few minutes’ walk from tons of restaurants and other bars. So you can grab dinner before the show and find karaoke or more drinks after if you’re still in the mood to hang out. Definitely a fun place to catch live music and have a night out.

My 1st visit to Club Fox on a Wednesday Night with the JC Smith Band… What a fantastic midweek treat! Club Fox regularly features different bands throughout the week. The Wednesday evening of our visit they featured the JC Smith Band! It was nothing short of an incredible experience. Their music was outstanding, as JC Smith and his band brought a bluesy energy to the stage, captivating the audience from start to finish. Our drinks were both tasty and fresh, adding the perfect touch to an already fun evening. The crowd was warm and friendly, coupled with the great old-school music creating a welcoming and dancing atmosphere that made the night even more enjoyable. From the incredible live music to the delightful beverages and inviting crowd, we wholeheartedly recommend Wednesdays at Club Fox. It's an experience you won't want to miss!

We saw The Refugees, one of California’s best Tom Petty tribute bands, on the Saturday before Christmas. Friendly venue, great views of the stage, good sound, room to dance, enthusiastic crowd.

Awesome venue for live music. Great sound and an upstairs balcony.

Google
Club Fox is an awesome club in RWC!!! Downtown RWC has had a beautiful renovation, and the area is very clean, family friendly and very welcoming. A good variety of many excellent restaurants and plenty of parking within walking distance of Club Fox. Whether performing or there as part of the audience I’ve always experienced a great, chill crowd. The club is very clean & inviting, clean restrooms on the main floor & upstairs. Ah yes, if you don’t want to dance or want another perspective on the band, you can sit upstairs to watch the band or get great videos or pics of your favorite act. I love this club, easy to get to, easy to find parking and an overall safe feel if hanging out with friends or just in the area with family!

Google
Great venue, with several bathrooms that are actually clean! Friendly staff and amazing live music! There is space upstairs to relax and kick back in a seat with a view of the band. And space down stairs to get down and boogie! Can't wait to go back!

Google
Club Fox has a small space one of the smaller clubs in the area. Although generally it's clean, doesn't provide for much of an atmosphere for events and other activities they may have. As an active member of a fundraising organization, the management at Club Fox certainly does not make for a good partner if planning some type of a non-profit related community event. Other than that, it seems to be a somewhat popular of a local place for partygoers and nightclub attendees to see their local and sometimes not local bands perform. Prices at the door and at the bar or usually pretty fair. But oh it can be a challenge to get a drink as my last few visits I experienced that the bartender seem to be more attentive to specific clientele then the one at the opposite end of the bar trying to buy a drink. Nevertheless I wish them well and hope they have continued success in their future.

Yelp
A gem of a little venue with a no-frills bar setup. They pour a stiff drink and the bartender was friendly. No food is available beyond tiny bags of chips, but there are lots of food options just around the corner. With limited seating, it's best to get there early if you require a table. The music was good and the crowd joyful.

Yelp
Yall gotta come here on blues jam , I tell ya you won't wanna leave and you won't regret it. My heart's felt in this place. The drinks are stiff and the music rocks.

Joe ..

Yelp
This venue brings upper tier local artist who truly put on very good shows. The service at the bar is excellent and the owner is often on site. It's a great place to see a show.

Kelly R.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place because I love live music and it's in walking distance, but the vibe varies and sometimes the service is less than mediocre. The space and layout aren't great for visibility and the sound system could use an upgrade. Their wine selection is bad, both in quantity and quality. Still, nothing is horrible and I can come here and have a great time if I keep my expectations low.
google avatar

Yelp
John Lennon tribute with Drew Harrison was fantastic. The drink prices are VERY reasonable less than $18 for 2 cocktails. We WILL be back. Street parking easy free after 8pm (No app required just card.). Nice venue.

Yelp
we attended The Anthony Paule Soul Orchestra. It was the first time I had been to the Club Fox...was very nice, well run helpfull people, nice sound system. it's a winner

Yelp
One of our friends was preforming with his band, The Quart of Blood Technique, along with a few other local rock bands. We bought tickets in advanced but you can buy at the door too. The stage area was great. Very big for the room. Seating was odd. Kind of spread out weirdly. I think they were trying to make standing or dancing room but this wasn't that type of crowd. We met a few really nice people who actually just wondered in. They liked the sound of the bands and couldn't help themselves. I felt the sound was perfect. We really enjoyed ourselves. They did have some mic issues but over all the music sounded great in this room. The bar was small but it is a full bar. We enjoyed interacting with the bar tender and staff. We like sparkling water so if you're interested in booze, they do have it. I don't live very close to this venue so I don't know what other types of shows they put on. I would really like to see a comedy show here. It looks like it would be a fun place to see something like that. As to a live music show, its a great venue.

Yelp
I've been here a few times and was 'here' again for the Whytesnake & Metallica Tribute Show last night. Good Times Indeed!! And I've got to say, Club Fox's Tony B behind the bar... that dude is the dopest crap ever!! Very attentive to the bands and patrons alike all smiles and fun stories. The sound guy seemed to have made a wise decision by not having the bands up too loud... I would have liked it a bit louder; but my ears weren't really ringing afterwards which is a really good thing. Stock up the beers, I will be returning to this Venue soon!

Yelp
A comfortable, energetic, venue with a good sound system and plenty of space to dance for most shows (unseated). Easy parking, tons of places to eat nearby, covers are always low, friendly staff, clean restrooms...oh...AND GREAT MUSIC!!!

Yelp
Fun live music spot! It's about 10 minutes from the Caltrain station and is in the Redwood Ctiy downtown area, so there are a lot of restaurants nearby. They had an entry fee when we went, but because it was our first time, the man at the door gave us a discount, which was super nice! We went on a Wednesday evening, and it was not super crowded. The group playing was really talented! I'm not super into blues or jazz, but I still had a ton of fun. It's nice seeing the crowd up, dancing and vibing to the music. We also got a few drinks, and the bartender was friendly and gave great recommendations, so shoutout to her!

Yelp
We had bought tickets to see a great Tribute Band of the Beatles ; The Sun Kings . We were Celebrating our friends birthday . This place has a very large stage . Lots of seating upstairs as well as below . We ordered cocktails that were generous and well priced . Served quickly and with warm service from Tony the Bartender . We found a a very cool crowd in attendance . Great sound and nice seats right up front . We throughly enjoyed the whole evening . Great Venue for Live Music . Can't wait to come back to see future shows !

Yelp
Watched a Flamenco show here last night. I called first and Charlie, the person I spoke to was very nice and accommodating. He said he will keep rickets for me with no reservation fee. Place was clean including bathrooms and everyone was nice. I look forward to watching more shows here.

Yelp
Came to see the amazing Laura Chavez playing with Chickenbone Slim & the Biscuits. This was my first time at Club Fox. It's a lovely little venue adjacent to the historic Fox Theater. The person at the door was very friendly and welcoming (a rarity amongst door people). The lighting was nice. The sound was great. The local neighborhood is pleasant and safe. Close to the freeway and CalTrain. Recommended.

Yelp
I had high hopes for this sold-out show on April 22, which was the Prince tribute band When Doves Cry. I want to make it clear that my complaint is not about the band, which played an energetic, interesting set of music that resonated with me, a major Prince fan. They went deep into the Prince catalog and showed that they are true believers in his legacy. Unfortunately, the venue let them down terribly. There were numerous problems with the house audio, which was awful to the point that my wife and I left after the first hour of the three hour show! The whole point of a live music venue is to actually hear and enjoy the music. You can't hear or enjoy the music here-- instead, it's a flat wall of noise. I heard plenty of bass and keyboards, but I could barely hear the singer and could not hear the guitar at all. I even went to the sound booth early in the show and told the house audio engineer that I could not hear the guitar! She was texting on her phone and barely acknowledged my comment. I looked up at the setup, and there are two large speakers pointed at the crowd, but that's all I could see except for the stage monitors for the band. The venue was packed, with the standard crowd of older locals awkwardly dancing in front of our table while holding drinks. I have no quarrel with the bar or the drinks, except that we had to use plastic cups (I understand their reasons for not wanting glass floating around). This is definitely a two-star live venue because of the poor audio. That is sad because it has potential and is one of the few live venues left in the area. But that makes it even more important to have even minimally acceptable house audio, which was completely absent here. They need to upgrade the system.

Yelp
Friendly people, great location in Redwood City right next to an open square, restaurants, and parking nearby. Really good live music acts. Full bar. Really fun vibe and seating on 2 levels.
google avatar

Mitzi A.

Yelp
Amazing venue as it as lots of space to it and watch live music performances as well as dance up close to the stage. There is 2 bar areas (although only one was opened the night we attended)...and an upstairs area to watch the ands perform close up. Not a bad seat in the house! If you appreciate live music and want to really get close to the band, this is your neighborhood go-to spot in RWC. And, if you are lucky enough to see #DutchUncle perform, even better
google avatar

Veronica A.

Yelp
If you aren't a serious salsa dancer then you might feel a little out of place. I can dance, and I still felt a bit out of place. The couples here mean serious business when they are dancing lol... We ended up walking down the street to a bar instead...

Yelp
Adjacent to the larger Fox Theatre, we saw Mustache Harbor here and had a great time. Small stage, medium-small dance floor and minimal table seating, but great sound. Also, if you have not seen Mustache Harbor before you are not living your best life. They're fantastic and so are their fans. Run, do not walk, to the next show. Drinks are a little expensive but the bartenders are quick and friendly. Pro Tip: There is a bathroom that people forget about/don't know is there and usually has no line. Shoot me a message and I'll let you in on the secret. ;-)

Yelp
Another amazing show hosted by Marina Crouse & Garth Webber last Wed. The band played 2 sets w/ a nice blend of blues, rock, r&b, jazz, soul, Latin etc. with so much energy + enthusiasm and had great interaction with a very appreciative crowd, a good percentage of which were on the dance floor most of the time and still about the same size just enjoying the great music. A good mix of local & visiting musicians lent capable, creative support and jammed with many more sets that made a solid evening of good entertainment and fun for everyone. 2 THUMBS UP!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Shocking this place only had 24 reviews and that it's not better known. It's the sleeper secret for live music on the peninsula. Only my 2nd time here but I hope to make it a larger part of my rotation. There seem to be featured performers as well as some sort of sign up list where talented performers (playing any instrument to singing) get up and particulate. Love being able to let my hair down and dance. Friendly yet mostly older crowd - the original 70's flower children :) Okay maybe that's 60's lol Friendly bartender. Patron. Life is good! Wednesday nights only.

Yelp
We came here to hear Top Shelf one Saturday evening. Boy what an evening. Since there is first come first served seating we waited outside for the 8pm Show. Make sure you dress warmly for the wait. Once inside we missed the seats on the ground floor but got front row seats on the second floor. The club is not that big. It fits maybe a 100+ people tops. I don't know how the club or the bands survive when we only pay $20 per person for tickets. And top Shelf played from 8:00 to 11:00pm! What a deal! Front row seats to hear such a great band play 4 hours! The music was so good! Everyone was dancing all night. And the music wasn't that loud that I had to put in my earplugs. Only thing is that the iron bars on the banister upstairs are in my way of viewing the band. I had to bebop standing up most of the night or dance because the bars were in my way. We all had a great night dancing To this live band. Best deal Of The night spending it dancing with good friends.

Yelp
Had a great live music experience, Doobie Brothers cover band, pre covid here and can't wait to get a show again soon. Great venue for live music experience.

Yelp
The Club Fox Blues Jam is every Wednesday 7-11. We were there last night and it was phenomenal! There's a different "headline" band every week, they play for the first and last hour, and in between there are a handful of "pick-up" bands selected from local blues musicians. The venue has plenty of space, with an upstairs section if you don't want to be right next to the stage. Open bar. Great music, mostly blues. What else can you do on a Wednesday night for $10?

Yelp
Went to get drinks with my wife today 9/29/18 Female bartender was rude and cussed me out for bring it up to her attention that I was waiting for along time while she helping others Who came after me The customer next to me notice what she was doing and he told me that she was doing shots all day long something that she should never be doing on the job Anyway my wife and took our business somewhere else will never go back this place

Yelp
Really awesome venue for a show or party. Such a cool place to hang out, have some drinks, and watch a performance. I was first introduced to Club Fox when I attended a show... I knew it was going to be a male revue, but I had NO idea what exactly was in store. When I arrived, there were shirtless guys onstage dancing to the beat! The show was VERY classy though -- more theatrical than your typical idea of a male revue. There was even an appearance by my two theater friends, one who sang a song and the other who played a character role as a dentist (neither stripped). What a fun show! Typically this venue hosts bands, standup comedy, karaoke nights (no cover), and Latin dance nights (salsa, bachata, merengue, and cha-cha). I would definitely come back and check out some of these events. Everything from local bands to Led Zeppelin! The lighting and sound system are pretty badass, and everything just looks classy. TIP: Yes! Bring a date! Check out the website for the events calendar.

Yelp
What once was the "Little Fox" has become "Club Fox" after a change in ownership a few years back. But other than that, there is really no outward difference. It is still a very small and cozy venue with both an upstairs and downstairs. Though I normally like to be on level with the band, I sometimes prefer the upstairs here, which feels more intimate and less crowded (other people do too, so get there early to grab a spot). Plus they have a separate bars above and below. Beer list is good enough, but not great. We saw Elvin Bishop here late last year. The show was initially sold out, so we wandered by after the first set to see if the crowds had thinned. They had. After we scoffed at the original ticket price they quoted, the door staff backed down and charged us $10 a head. The second set was fantastic! - $10 extremely well spent. Unfortunately, most of the time Club Fox still specializes in music I don't normally seek out: sometimes local blues and jazz, but primarily tribute bands and cover bands. If they had more indie rock, alternative rock, bluegrass, or Celtic music, I would be here A LOT more often. I'll keep hoping.
google avatar

Joyce Z.

Yelp
Club Fox is the small venue next to the Fox Theater so just a heads up so you don't walk into the wrong one. We came here for the last show in Uncle Dennis Kamakahi's Tribute tour on Sunday night and was pleasantly surprised by the intimate concert venue with two floors. It seemed fitting to close their tour here since current owner Charlie was one of the early adopters of Hawaiian music to the Bay Area. (Hope you had a Hau`oli La Hanau!!) For concerts, try to arrive when the doors open as the bar stools in the back on the second floor was a bit hard to see around the people in front of you and allow extra time to find parking too as it can be tough but there is a garage that is about 4 blocks or so away.
google avatar

Sonnia Jean K.

Yelp
This place was a great mini-concert venue. My fiancé and I had a date night here to watch The Houserockers last Friday night. We found seats at the second level since the ground floor was already packed. They had a full bar on both levels. The only downside was that they didn't sell any food or appetizers. They just wanted you drunk. LOL I've been to several dive bars before and they had at least peanuts. This place? Nada. Just spend your money to buy booze and that's it. Not really a fan of that. I am the type of drinker who likes to have something crunchy and salty while drinking, so that I wouldn't get drunk easily. Drinking straight booze as is for the whole night was just not right for me. Plus, $10 for a martini and $9 for a very small cup of Jack-N-Coke. It's a rob! The stage was well lit and had an ample space for the dance floor right in front of it. The sound system was a hit or miss. Lots of feedback happened that night and the sound engineer seemed to not know how to control the volume of all the microphones either. I could hardly hear the main singer's mic (Paul's), but Nick's was fine (the keyboardist). The band was great, the venue was okay. I only drank two drinks and my fiancé also had two for an overall $40+tip. Too expensive for just drinks. At least, The Houserockers were great. It was a fun night.

Yelp
I went to Club Fox for a salsa lesson and dancing . Club Fox has a 1930s or 49s era vibe, a large dance floor and a petite bar. There was a stage for performance. I forgot the name of the band, but they played Salsa, Merengue, and Bachata. The club has 2 floors, however the crowd was light and all the action was on the dance floor so I felt no need to go Upstairs. The crowd was mixed, and a bit older 30s - 50s. It appears there are a lot of salsa events hosted here, and I will be returning.
google avatar

Amy D.

Yelp
Cute venue, and I liked that they have bar tables and stools to sit at so you don't have to stand or dance the whole time. The night that I went they were playing Latin music, which was good but not really my forte. The crowd that night was really mixed, which was nice, and it wasn't so crowded that you couldn't walk around easily. I'm not sure I would want to pay a cover again to watch another band, but if it was a group I liked I would think about returning. Parking in this area can be tough but there are garages available.
google avatar

Carol L.

Yelp
There is something fun for all here! Lots of genre variety, a dance floor, plenty of seats, including upstairs for those that don't dance, friendly bartender and staff and fair drink prices (STRONG bourbon/coke $8). We thoroughly enjoyed "Country Music Night" and the Chris Bigford Band. LOTS of talent and great entertainers. $10 cover charge was well worth it.
google avatar

Theresa N.

Yelp
LOVED this place! I went to see an oldie but goody, Dan Hicks (with my parents). The show started at 7, but apparently it's a great idea to get in line about 5:15 as it's first come to seating selections and the doors open at 6pm. My Dad purchased tix online as the door was about $10 bucks more. It's located right next to the Fox theater and across from the Museum. That by itself, is a beautiful building. My aunt told us they usually have a dance floor surrounding by seating, but on this night, all seating and it filled up. It was pretty cool and basic in side. I liked they have a row upstairs surrounding the area looking down of seating. Small bar and two unisex bathrooms. It's easy to say you can park at the nearby shopping center or luck out in one of the street parking areas. The only annoying part of the whole place were the TV screens against the back wall that just seem to show the Club Fox logo. It was distracting to have the logo disappear and then reappear. It just brought unnecessary lighting. All in all, great place for live music.
google avatar

Stacy R.

Yelp
This place is crawling with thieves!! Don't go here with anything of value, it will get stolen! Several of my friends and myself have had their purses stolen, there are no surveillance cameras, nor does management care about trying to solve the problem. I will never go here again!
google avatar

Amanda G.

Yelp
Another awesome night here! One of the best NYE I've ha in a LONG time.. The crowd was just the right size. There were enough people for a fun atmosphere but it wasn't crazy packed. There was plenty of room to dance, and enough tables to put coats, purses, and drinks at. Drinks were reasonably priced, the band was pretty good, and the price for evening was great. I look forward to another show here! Live music and a big dance floor is a win for me!
google avatar

Rosalyn W.

Yelp
Cool venue. Abundant street parking. Many tasty restaurants nearby. Great date location. The historical courthouse square across the street is really beautiful at night. It's lit up with fabulous lights and functional water fountains. I enjoyed the venue itself for being small and intimate. There were clean bathrooms and bars on both levels. The second floor balcony features a nice vantage point of the stage. The sound system was clear, too. Large dance floor and good vibes all around. A great, low key venue in a cool and hip part of RWC.
google avatar

Eric Y.

Yelp
Now, I realize that this venue had a wide variety of acts and shows that appear here. Stand-up comedy, small groups and not so small groups. What I am reviewing is strictly Karaoke with Anthony Nash on Monday nights. Now, I will admit that I and more than a few friends follow (not stalk, hehe) Anthony around the Bay Area. But when he it's doing his Thing at Club Fox, with their Killer sound system, awesome lighting, and Huge stage, you can't help but feel, for 3 minutes at least, like Frank or Whitney. Now, I know, Monday night, really? Well if you are an addict like some, it's like Monday Night Karaoke, instead of football, just kidding, Go Niners! So, if you like to sing especially on a Giant stage, Come on Down sing us a song, or you can enjoy an adult beverage served up by Andrew or Summer. Either way you will have Great time at Club Fox...
google avatar

Karen L.

Yelp
Great Wednesday night blues Jams. There is always a great headliner and during the break local artists take the stage a jam. The dance floor is huge and wooden~perfect for dancing~and there is plenty of seating downstairs and upstairs. The cover is only $5, well worth it if you enjoy live music and even if you don't dance at all.
google avatar

Bruce H.

Yelp
We went to Club Fox last evening for their weekly Wednesday night Blues Jam. The headliner was Terry Hanck an amazing sax player and singer who is up for "Song of the Year" in the 2012 Blues Music Awards and who toured for years with Elvin Bishop. Easy to see why. This dude can blow! And he's a great singer/songwriter as well. Anyway...back to the Club: It's a great place to see/listen/dance. The stage is large enough to give musicians a chance to move around and perform, and the seating includes both main floor and balcony tables and front-row-style theatre seating surrounding the stage plus a small dance floor. The overall layout of the place is clean and roomy and oriented to the stage. Perfect! We'll be back.
google avatar

Cat N.

Yelp
This venue is beautiful! It's attached to the larger Fox Theatre next door, and the architecture seems to have carried over. There's ample seating, and you can see from anywhere inside the club. There's plenty of bathrooms, and space so you don't feel cramped. Drink prices aren't the cheapest, and kind of on the small side, but I appreciated the effort the bartender put into making my drink just right and memorizing it so she could make it in the future. Finally, it's in a very safe, nice area, with a ton of parking all around.

John B.

Yelp
I agree the balcony and lower level seating arrangement make it easy to see the band and the acoustics are good and the dance floor is ample. The drinks are overpriced - $8 for a Lagunitas. Parking is difficult in that neighborhood.
google avatar

Linda D.

Yelp
Disappointed in the timeliness of the event-the band feather wich was supposed to start at 8pm, but we are still waiting for them to start
google avatar

Yelp
Bartenders are amazing! Great bands, comedians, events! Atmosphere is very enjoyable! Great place to spend a Saturday night with friends!
google avatar

Yelp
Club Fox Blues Jam on Wednesday night is fantastic. $5 to see such talent is a great deal. Fun crowd and friendly atmosphere.
google avatar

Mark H.

Yelp
WOW! We had so much fun celebrating at the Club Fox last night. The entire team was amazing. They were helpful, insightful, and fun to work with. We chose to hire the engineer for the night, GOOD CHOICE. He was there for our DJ, set up our video output, and managed the lights. Well worth the minimal fee. The bartenders were fun, fast and efficient. We became instant friends. If you're looking for the perfect place to have a party. This is it. They provided security and had sufficient staff that made it seem as though we had our own night club.

Yelp
I went to the Led Kaapana & Mike Kaawa show last week and I that was my first time there. This is really a great venue for music. Sound was excellent. View was excellent.
google avatar

Yelp
Great venue, awesome entertainment, creative lighting and good service. Highly recommend this venue. I had the pleasure of visiting on a Saturday night to see Caravanserai and Ruckatan, which were awesome! Would love to visit again!

Vanessa O.

Yelp
For a club in Redwood City, it's not that bad. There is live bands, music, and salsa scattered throughout the week. The only thing I found a little unsettling was the prices of the beer...like $7? Eh, I'll head to a restaurant with Happy Hour deals beforehand.

Kathleen J.

Yelp
Have been going here for years on Wednesday nights; best live blues and dancing around. I agree with all the other reviews, EXCEPT... I know several people who have stopped coming because it is SO loud. I've tried several types of earplugs to no avail. And spoken to them about it several times. Sound engineer says it's the band and band says it's the sound engineer. It's a small room and really doesn't need to be this loud. Please hear us Club Fox!

James A. M.

Yelp
Nice club, but they need help booking up and coming, progressive bands.Other clubs can do it,why not the Club Fox? Still Deadwood City!??!!
