"Clumsy Cow could be seen as a barbecue bonus, something the crew behind Industry Ales didn’t plan, but embraced when the opportunity arose in the Loop. Next to the legendary Central Camera store, Clumsy Cow (named for the legend behind the Great Chicago Fire) takes barbecue stylings from different regions of the country, including Chicago, the land of sweet sauces and aquarium smokers, and blends them to create something new. Chef Alexander Willis has a menu of ribs, brisket, and a smoked mortadella sandwich served on a torpedo roll and drizzled with a smoked pistachio barbecue sauce made with jalapeños." - Ashok Selvam

"A one-two punch of summer debuts on Wabash Avenue. The Downtown hospitality veterans will first unleash Clumsy Cow BBQ, helmed by Soul & Smoke-alum Alexander Willis, where patrons will find 'new age' takes on rib tips, Polish sausage, and more." - Ashok Selvam

"The management behind Clumsy Cow BBQ, an upcoming restaurant at 234 S. Wabash Avenue, hasn’t encountered any ventilation challenges in the Loop. In early June, Clumsy Cow hopes to give downtown a taste of true barbecue. From the same team of Dan Rook, Zack Blazek, and Matt Wiegers behind Industry Ales — an upcoming brewpub next to the legendary Central Camera store — comes Clumsy Cow, a combination of various barbecue styles. Chef Alexander Willis has worked with D’Andre Carter and Soul & Smoke and spent time at Hog & Hominy in Memphis, Tennessee. He calls his approach, which mostly uses hickory, “new age smoke”: “We’re definitely doing rib tips, they’re a South Side Chicago staple,” Willis says. But instead of being committed to Central Texas or a specific region, Willis is fusing his favorites. Brisket and pulled pork will have unique spice rubs; it won’t be a universal salt and pepper mix for all the meats. He’s reminded of Memphis’ Cozy Corner BBQ and its smoked bologna sandwich. At Clumsy Cow, the bologna inspires a smoked mortadella sandwich served on a torpedo roll with a smoked pistachio barbecue sauce made with jalapeños. Willis compares it to an Alabama white sauce. Like his mentor at Soul & Smoke, which serves a delicious smoked link, Willis is giving encased meats some love. This time, he’s developed a special Polish sausage. The description makes it sound like a cross between a classic Kielbasa and a Maxwell Street version. He’s also serving a southern-friend lion’s mane mushroom sandwich. Dry-rubbed mushrooms — supplied by Chicago’s fungus darlings, Four Star Mushrooms — will be available by the pound. Fried hand pies are the big desserts and are made in-house. Look for seasonal stuffings like strawberries and rhubarb. They won’t serve Industry Ale’s beer at Clumsy Cow, which taps into Chicago’s sports culture with a black and red logo. Yes, the owners are winking at Mrs. O’Leary’s chastized cow, but co-owner Rook also points out most barbecues focus on pork. They don’t want to leave lovers of brisket and beef ribs behind. And if it goes well, Clumsy Cow will have siblings in other locations. Clumsy Cow BBQ, 234 S. Wabash, planned for an early June opening." - Ashok Selvam

I really wanted to like this place. But the food prices, compared to how good the food tastes are way off. Two combo orders, one brisket and fries and one Buffalo chicken sandwich with fries, and you don't even get a drink was 50 bucks. The chicken was really bland. And to much Cole slaw put on it. That it dominated the whole taste. Brisket was not bad at all. But for the price , I definitely can find a better place. The weirdest part was the cornbread. It was kinda of wet like it was not cooked all the way. But no, it was, and it was pretty good. I do want to try their Mac n cheese with brisket. But 12 dollars for a small cup and not sure how the Mac tastes like has stopped me.

I ordered the pulled pork which was shredded to the point of looking like threads. I would have preferred bigger pieces so I had something to chew, but it tasted pretty good. I had it with the Carolina BBQ sauce which is tangy and not at all sweet. The greens are delicious. The mac and cheese is super creamy with a nice amount of cracked black pepper. It was $35 when tax and tip was included, which makes for a very expensive fast food lunch for one, but I do have leftovers

Just tried this one for the first time. I'm impressed. Got the brisket sandwich and it was overflowing with delicious brisket. I like my brisket lean but juicy, and this was spot on. No big gross chunks of fat. It maintained a great balance with the pickles and sauce. Collard greens were solid as well. Good flavor and perfectly cooked. Service was excellent too. Everyone was nice and accommodating. I'm definitely coming back. Highly recommended.

Got the ribs and brisket! They were both super flavorful and tender. When the food came out, I was a bit worried that brisket looked a bit too lean but it was so juicy and tender! Also, their BBQ sauces are 10/10 —tangy, sweet, and savory. Loved their pickles too!! The staffs are super helpful and friendly. Highly recommend 💯🫶

Man, how can you not love brisket like this? Fatty and DELICIOUS. Potato salad has room for improvement. Seems like the sides are still being refined but the meats are no joke. Place smells incredible inside. Fantastic spot to have in the loop.

The corn bread with honey butter might be the best corn bread i’ve ever had in my life. The mac and cheese is up there too. Beef brisket is 10/10, rib tips are a little dry but still delicious. Will be back. We ordered the beef brisket sandwich with fries, cornbread, and a side of mac and cheese, and rib tips with a side of cornbread.

I went for lunch and had the lions Mane lemon pepper chicken sandwich. It was was supposed to be a chipotle aoli but the dill is over powering, delicious but wish it was more spicy
