These Chicago Chili Crisps Chomp David Chang’s Chutzpah | Eater Chicago

"A long-running Chicago hot-sauce maker (founded in 2003) prized for a pungent, garlic-forward chili crisp that emphasizes crunchy bits of fried garlic alongside zingy oil. Nut-free and intensely flavorful, it’s often used as a quick way to transform snacks or simple meals into bold, savory bites." - Ashok Selvam

Excellent. Nice small venue with excellent choices in mildly eclectic combinations. Will be back.

Love this sauce! Habanero is by far the best thing I've ever had on eggs! Their other sauces are great too! Updating my above review. The Habanero hot sauce USED to be amazing. Then I noticed the packaging changed and the color of the actual sauce changed too. It tasted completely different and even the ingredients between the old version and the new version are different on the bottle (I have both to compare). I emailed Co-Op asking why they changed the sauce and they claimed only the packaging was different and the sauce was the same. Well - I don't buy it anymore because I do not like the taste of the new version so it cannot be the same because it's noticeably different. I have tried many of the new bottles too so it wasn't just a one off unfortunately. Such a shame. I used to LOVE it.

There is no better place to get unique, flavorful hot sauces and good company. The staff is wonderful and the food is fantastic. Can't recommend this spot enough. Try the Peruvian Gold sauce.

Food is delicious. Hot sauce is amazing. It gets busy around 10 or 11am so early is better, but its worth the wait no matter how long.

Google
Best local hot sauces, also nice coffee shop, but if you want some interesting and bold sauces, this place is a must. You can find their sauces all over town, but this is basically the mothership

Google
Really tasty and they have very good hot sauce

Chill, self-bussing, great food. Check out the used bookstore across the street before or after.

Buy the Chiracha, it's pretty amazing! There are many others to choose from that are just as good!

Yelp
Honestly don't know why I haven't reviewed Co-Op Sauce yet, since I've been hoarding and loving their sauces for 5 years now. These are the same owners of The Sauce and Bread Kitchen, but they also make their own line of sauces. If you are a hot sauce lover or really just a lover of amazing flavor you've gotta get their sauce. I usually order online from their website when I can't make it to the store. My favorites are the Poblano, Chchcherrybomb, and Smokey Mole (honorable mentions are The Barrel and Poblano Mustard). But honestly they are all great and I put them on almost everything I eat. You can't go wrong with any of them.

Yelp
Their sauces are the bomb diggety. I went on a pilgrimage here from Hyde Park on CTA after buying sauces on and off at farmers markets. Mike was super duper nice, knowledgeable, clearly loves what he does - I am a home cook and obsessed with hot sauce (no joke, 1/4 of my valuable fridge real estate is dedicated to hot sauce), and half of them are co-op sauces. Spent about 50 mins sampling hot sauces and hemming and hawing about how I was going to choose a modest haul of 7 bottles. Mike was very patient and answered all of my wacky questions about ingredients and made recommendations. Settled on the Mole, Kimchi, Jack o' lantern, Batsauce, Barrel, Aji gold and Carrot habanero....I find that I reach most often for the Kimchi and Jack o'Lantern...but they are *all* killer. None of them overpower, they are about flavor, not macho BS-melt-your-tongue-off-hot. They are a wonderful range of flavors - the Batsauce is fruity and funky, the Kimchi is wonderfully tangy, rich and savory, and I love how light the Carrot is - goes with a lot, tad sweet with a kick. The Jack is simple - and doing simple well, I've found, is a true testament of craftsmanship. Rock on, co-op sauce. Can't wait to come back for lunch and buy some other fun groceries like the cured meats and condiments I scoped out.

Yelp
I felt the need to write a review for Co-Op Sauce(s) as they are technically their own entity although they originate from Sauce and Bread Kitchen. My first experience with one of their sauces happened at Southport Grocery & Cafe. I had sat down with a friend and when my omelette arrived I grabbed what I thought to be one of those generic tabasco sauces (cholula, tabasco, franks, etc) and poured a great deal all over my eggs. Yeah, I like things spicy.....and what?! First mouthful of eggs, I recall my friend was talking to me and I just froze. OH. EM. GEE. This was not tabasco my friends. My mouth was very quickly engulfed in very (keyword: FLAVORFUL) flames. lol. I immediately knew I'd made a huge mistake pouring so much on my eggs and wondered what in gods name I'd put on there, but get this, as I explained to my friend what was going on and I went for the bottle of sauce, the burning sensation disappeared. It was like temporary spiciness. It was delicious! it was grand! Full of citrus flavor and just overall damned good. At this point I realize this is Greyhound Ghost sauce, oh yeah, this is some good stuff. It's made with Ghost peppers, the 2nd hottest pepper on the planet, grapefruit juice and pulp and other stuff in it. As they themselves describe it, this is more of a relish than a sauce. Heck, I was blown away and delighted at the same time. Thank you "Brunch Gods" for this awesomeness! When I left I bought some sauces and in the months since I've bought more. This company knows their hot sauces man, seriously. They are exquisite and frankly, I am shocked every single breakfast diner and restaurant doesn't already carry something by Co-Op. They are truly missing out. This one single item alone has brought me back to Southport Grocery & Cafe many times, yes that place has great food but it also has these sauces which are rare. Co-Op also does limited runs of certain batches of sauces, which in my opinion adds a bit of exclusivity to the brand. The idea of having limited runs that are full of flavor and awe and might or might not ever again be made available is just too much to handle and causes you to buy up more of the product. Throw out your Franks, Tabasco and Cholula guys and start stocking your pantry and fridge with these babies. I promise you your next dinner party or BBQ will have many people asking where you got these great sauces and if you are an establishment that sells food, what are you waiting for!? Try these out!

Yelp
I had the "The Barrel" hot sauce in a restaurant and immediately had to go buy a few bottles for home!
