19 Excellent Houston Beer Bars

"This little neighborhood beer bar in Spring Branch is known for its laid-back approach to craft beer, with about 40 beers on tap. The menu’s current focus includes summery sippers like sour ales, goses, Mexican lagers and meads. They also sell crowlers for beer on the go." - Brittanie Shey

Exemplary beer bar in Spring Branch. Eclectic array of locals and other visitors. Outside food is welcome. Regular community gatherings. Cycling-life is predominant. Kyle and Zach run a friendly neighborhood venue. Playlist is usually metal/death/stoner/doom/sludge/____core, but not always. Games on screens.

Google
I came across a neighborhood bar that offers a large selection of draft beers and has easy parking. It’s located in a non-descriptive strip cenre. I had just finished shopping for vinyl a couple of doors down and decided to stop in for a beer. The atmosphere was welcoming, and the service was prompt. Overall, it was a pleasant experience in this casual bar setting.

Google
Excellent spot for sours & IPA's. No nonsense bar gives you exactly what you came for. Many patio tables outback and about 40 beers on tap plus bottles, cans, and build your own crawler options.

This hole-in-the-wall bar offers a fantastic experience with its lively atmosphere and excellent music. The beer selection is impressive, catering to a variety of tastes, and the customer service is friendly and attentive. If you're looking for a cozy spot with a great vibe and top-notch brews, this place is a must-visit. Personally, I really enjoy their mead selection. Food - Not Applicable. This establishment does not serve food, thus the 1 start. But they do allow you to bring in food to enjoy with their drinks.

I had my 40th birthday party here a few weeks ago and had a great time! 28 of us showed up and Zach the bartender took great care of us. He is really fast and personable, great guy. I live in the area and come here frequently. It’s a cool bar with a great beer selection, nice and relaxing atmosphere. They have a nice variety of wines as well. Would 10/10 recommend this place.

Stopped in on Halloween and loved it! The bartender behind the bar was so friendly and I really did love the way the place was decorated. I’d been wanting to come here for some time, as they are one of the only places I know of that has mead on tap, and they did not disappoint!!! So many interesting beers on tap, like a cheesecake sour?? hello??? amazing. Can’t wait to come back 🙂‍↕️

Google
Extremely wonderful selection of high end local craft beers. The bartender is so chill you'll feel like your at home with your family or friends.

Google
LOVED this bar. There’s such a great selection of beer/mead and the atmosphere was so easy and chill. I wish we found it earlier. Cute back door outside area too! Massive bonus points for having hair ties and Bobby pins in the girls bathroom! That should honestly be a staple in every bar haha.

Yelp
This place is a great place to unwind and sit a spell. You can get a pour of just about any craft beer type you want. Much of the list are local made favorites. They even have mead. If you love beer and want to try something refreshing, get a glass here. Barkeep is a low key pro. He knows his stuff so don't hesitate to get the deets from him..

Yelp
This place is the go-to place for craft beer. Huge selection, never super busy, friendly and knowledgeable service. It's got a quiet neighborhood bar vibe. One of my favorites in the area.

Yelp
Phenomenal beer/mead selection. Service is attentive and responsive. Bartender is incredibly knowledgeable on all his products. Ambiance is laid back yet has an amazing decor. Definitely will come back.

Yelp
Place is great. Good selection of beers, board games, or to watch sports. Have gone a dozen times.

Yelp
Had to update and give a 5 star review . I've been here for 6 years and love it. It's my regular hang out and I don't really bother going anywhere else. Try it because the menu always changes and it's a fun place to chill

Yelp
Cobble & Spoke is a bar hidden on a strip center that I would consider the epitome of "a hidden gem." While they may be small this place packs a lot of personality. I have had this gem saved on my list of places to visit but never had the chance to go. I luckily got the opportunity to go after having some fun at indigo moon. What a great way to end the day. This bar not only has beer, but they also serve mead! Great IPAs and ciders too... you can't go wrong. A great cozy place to come after work for a few with coworkers if you work nearby. Please note that they do not serve food and only serve small snacks. Kind of a let down but still had a great time. They have some fun games too and a little back outdoor sitting area. Definitely will be back soon!

Yelp
Great bar, the beers are always rotating, but I had the unfortunate luck of entering this venue when Kyle was working. Horrible attitude, threw the remote for the TV at us, insulted me, and was simply a jerk. Nothing will change, but Kyle is acting like a POS. Kyle claimed to have seen me 5 times, and I *may* have seen him here once last year, and forgot his name so I asked again. Sorry for forgetting your name since last year - you didn't remember mine either. Kyle is just playing garbage music and FaceTiming somebody. He asked "what f@@@@ng sport is that?" when we asked if the channel could be turned. I will only come back here if Zach is working. I wish I owned this place so I could fire this joker named Kyle. Also noticed Kyle's short temper with other patrons. I come to a bar to feel welcomed and to have a friendly atmosphere. I feel like an intruder in this place. It's too bad. Houston has plenty of other places just as good as C&S. Just a horrendous experience.

Yelp
I had such a great afternoon on the patio at Cobble & Spoke. The weather was gorgeous and perfect for sitting outside. Kyle was really helpful with recommending beers he thought I would enjoy. The place was clean and inviting. If I lived in town I would undoubtedly be a regular.

Yelp
Comfy location that was new to us. Great selection of craft beer and mead. Reminiscent of Austin in vibe.

Yelp
I got to the Houston Aces game early and I desparately needed a beer after work, so I searched for bars in the area. I drove past this place even though my GPS told me that I had arrived. What a surprise! There were so many beers and breweries that I had never even heard of. Who has ever heard of Drowned Lands Brewery in Warwick, New York? Their dry hopped lager is absolutely delicious and Specs doesn't carry it. No one does... except Cobble & Spoke. I wish I had hid it better from my son.

Yelp
I came here on a lazy Sunday afternoon and it was kinda of slow when I got there. I wasn't expecting a big scene, so I was fine with that. The location almost seems in no-man's land, or maybe its just more my novice Houston geography at work. At any rate it place has some nice chill charm and anyone would be super-impressed by the beer selection. You will find dozens of beers from near and far. They do sell some packaged snacks but I'm sure they have food trucks on some days. I will come back one evening and check it out again.

Yelp
Excellent beer bar. The selection of Texas beers is incomparable. The variety is unparraled. Just a cool spot to sit and chill, maybe enjoy the back porch on a cool night like this. An added bonus is the immaculate bathroom for a pub. Clean and pleasant smelling, you don't regret breaking the seal. I love this venue

Yelp
A hidden gem in Spring Branch!! Excellent beer selection and really down to earth bartenders. We had a blast hanging out here on a Saturday afternoon and drank some delicious beers and found out about some breweries we had never heard of! Parking is a breeze since it's in a shopping strip. Support local!

Yelp
When it comes to craft beer in Houston, this place has the best vibe and something for everyone. I've taken countless people here and everyone has seemed to really enjoy themselves. If you find a beer that you fancy, you can get a crowler of it, which is great. They have a good rotation of beers (literally 40 options at the moment!) My personal favorite is St. Michael's BlackBerry Mead, but they have sour beers, pilsners, IPAs, stouts. I am thrilled that they have gotten through all the chaos of 2020 and have become my favorite place for beer, hands down.
google avatar

Yelp
3 year update and the place is still spot on. Great beer selection, by far better than most places with the exception of the big dogs like WOB or flying Saucer. It's still a low key place, kind of hidden and not what you expect from the outside. They have growlers. Good place to start the night or end the night early.

Maria Y.

Yelp
Such a great little hidden gem in Spring Branch. Wide selection of local and non-local beers. Will quickly become our favorite local watering hole as a new SB resident! The service is top notch.

Yelp
Easy going. Great beer selection. I *think* they offer sandwiches...definitely chips. Love that you can sit awhile a play some games

Yelp
Came here on a Friday evening around 10. The atom sphere was very low key and the bartender was very helpful. I've been wanting to visit this place for awhile, and I am so glad I got around to it. I'm usually a wine drinker, but this bar had such a great selection of sours that I drank beer instead. One drink I highly recommend is the Tasty AF peanut butter beer. It tastes like liquid Reese's Coco Puffs. I also had a pink sour beer that was delicious, but I cannot remember the name of it. Although I didn't get a chance to explore the board games, upon glancing I saw that they had numerous options. Can't wait to return!

Yelp
This bar in beyond incredible for those who are already experienced in beer or for those wanted to dip a toe in! The hours are not correct as listed on Apple Maps though.... Sunday-Tuesday 4-10pm Wednesday 12-10pm Thursday-Saturday 12-12am Must try!!!

Yelp
What a badass place. They have 40+ beers on tap and all are Texas beers. Love the fact I was able to discover some new brews. I like that it's local, right in our neck of the woods. The two gentlemen behind the bar were very friendly and attentive all night. A good place to bring a few friends. Only drawback is that with all the people in the small space, the noise level can be very loud. My husband and I went outside and sat around a picnic table to enjoy our beers and have conversation. I can't wait to come back!
google avatar

Yelp
Best beer selection; best service; best background music in West Spring Branch; not to mention the rotating food trucks at the backyard!

Will A.

Yelp
Consistently outstanding beer list along with a very chill ambiance. Zack is an amazing bartender with great recommendations and knowledge of beer. They also have plenty of board games to play while you enjoy quality brews.
google avatar

Melissa M.

Yelp
Amazing selection of beers. Chill vibes, overall outstanding service. Will be going again soon.

Yelp
the best bar. * * * * * * * * * * ok yelp, you want more? the best staff, best beers, best boring-but-interesting youtube videos (cycling, planes taking off at heathrow, star trek) on the silent tvs for vibes, best music, best cat portraits, best plants and pendant lighting and mismatched chairs so it's millennial but not too millennial, the best low-key neighborhood crowd, the best cat portraits... the best bar.
google avatar

Michelle G.

Yelp
Love this neighborhood bar for a great, rotating beer list and a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Definitely one of our favorites!
google avatar

Yelp
Beer selection is awesome. The place has a wonderful vibe. Different kinds of people all enjoying a cold beverage. Staff is knowledgeable and engaging.
google avatar

Cynthia V.

Yelp
Cool craft beer spot in Spring Branch. They have lots of beer on tap and in bottles to suit any taste. Their draft menu shows how much of the keg is left which is a pretty awesome thing I've never seen at a bar before. I'm glad to see this area getting some cool spots. This is off the beaten track from most of the bar areas in town, but if you are in the area, check them out!
google avatar

Claudia Ç.

Yelp
Great little hang out spot! Loved the back yard space, and the great service! Would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting the area!
google avatar

Joseph V.

Yelp
Great new bar that just opened up in spring branch. Beers are reasonably priced, staff are friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere is relaxed and open. It's in a shopping center you wouldn't think this place would pop up, but it's super convenient if you're looking for something close to home. I'll be back to try other beers and you should definitely give this place a go. Update: also, they play old cartoons! I absolutely love it!
google avatar

Aryani N.

Yelp
I think I stumbled upon a cute little place! There aren't any big signs outside. Just a name on the window that says cobble & spoke. All local Texas beers. Whaaa? Ya I said it all local beers!!!! They have a packet where you can read the description. They have a decent amount of beers on draft. The night I went there giving out free cups for a particular beer. Ask the bartender for more details. Lots of ladies in here, I met a kind gal at the bar, she is such a beer lover, she even told me about other places to go. And this was one of her favorite places to frequent. That means a lot! There's a back area where someone is cooking, you can buy food from the outside vendor. They start at like 6p or so. It's a cool, chill spot, great for an intimate convo or even with friends! A haven for beer lovers. Cheers y'all!!
google avatar

Phillip W.

Yelp
This place is great. Great selection of beer and friendly staff. They have an outdoor area outside that's really nice, but there's plenty of space inside. So much beer!
google avatar

Fernando M.

Yelp
Pretty much the best place to grab a beer in Houston. Kyle and Zach are awesome and very knowledgeable! Happy they are in Spring Branch! Been going to C&S for 4 years now. Stop by!

Evie N.

Yelp
Vibes were immaculate. They have a huge menu and you can ask for tasters. Inside is beautiful with ample seating and board games to play and there's an outdoor patio area in the back. Restrooms are clean and stocked with feminine hygiene products, just overall great place to be.
google avatar

Myrna S.

Yelp
Unexpected, super-cute and quaint establishment in the Spring Branch area. Tiny backyard with tables, which will be a great place to have a drink in the fall. I'm not a big craft beer drinker, but they had so many options, I still enjoyed my visit! Super nice & attentive bartender. We live a block away, so will definitely be back. I'm all about supporting our local small businesses.
google avatar

Scott W.

Yelp
The wife and I had our first visit to this quaint neighborhood bar over the weekend and really enjoyed ourselves. The selections of beer, wine and meads was overwhelming impressive. Ample seating, dimmed mood lighting, a separate seating patio out back, large selection of games and tv's that have on different games. What I liked about this place was it's geared toward adults. There wasn't 20 screaming kids running around inside (like you see in the back of Petrol Station). And, there was a lack of hipsters, too.
google avatar

Graham G.

Yelp
Simply the best craft beer selection in the entire city of Houston and surrounding area. The owner has a wonderful relationship with all of the best breweries within 300 mi of Houston. Do not waste your time going anywhere else because if you want to try some of the best beers you could possibly try come here. They have beers from Local Group and Eureka Heights and Great Heights etc. You can do a brew crawl and go to all those different breweries or you can just come to Cobble and Spoke and get your fix.
google avatar

Ken M.

Yelp
Amazing.. great service great selection ... definitely come and have a good time with an amazing selection.
google avatar

Shaina L.

Yelp
Great craft beet selection, cozy atmosphere, friendly bartender. My first time here and I'm impressed inner loop feel for those of us who do not live inside the loop. Highly recommend the 'holler come and thank it' if you are an IPA fan like myself. Bartenders are glad to let you sample damn near everything!
google avatar

Julienne P.

Yelp
Came here on a Monday evening. Bartender was friendly and recommended the mead #16 which was a pleasant surprise. Tried the blonde which was light and crisp.. Would definitely come back and recommend to others. #cheers

Ell M.

Yelp
We live nearby, and we're so glad to finally have a local pub! Huge selection of meads and beers, great music that isn't deafening, and the very good company of a gentleman bartender. Games are kept in the cabinets, and kids are ok until 9 p.m., I think. Lovely addition to the neighborhood.
google avatar

Kevin D.

Yelp
Best place in spring branch area for craft beer and wine selections. The owner and bartender are super knowledgeable for people who don't really know what they are lookin for .
google avatar

Bob S.

Yelp
Another Yelp Winner. In the area at 4J's brewing and Cobble and Spoke popped up. Amazing selection of local and State breweries on Tap and don't miss the Tacos in the back Porch Well Done!
google avatar

María E.

Yelp
I found this bar really pleasant. The beer selection is diverse so you will likely find something you like and they allow you to taste most beers if not all. It's low-key enough to have conversation without yelling but lively too! If you're from the area it's definitely worth checking out.
google avatar

Paul D.

Yelp
A new beer and wine bar in the Spring Branch area. Tucked back in a little strip center. There is an L shaped bar with plenty of seats. A few communal high top wood tables, a few low tops as well. A few TVs, some with the wine and beer selection, and a few for sports. Though they are unobtrusive. A very relaxed spot, and the owners/bartenders are great. Probably 30-40 taps, with plenty of variety. I found there to be a handful of gimmicky beers (Saloon Door Tasty AF, etc) though that is just my opinion. There is plenty to choose for everyone. Including Lone Pint Yellow Rose, Oasis Meta Modern, even some Jester King. They will fill growlers and can do crowlers to go as well. An unpretentious and enjoyable spot to hangout. If I lived in the area, I would be a regular.
google avatar

Marco V.

Yelp
Not sure how to describe Cobble & Spoke but in a great way. It would be the bar that I would love to open if I would open bar. It's a little bit of man-cave crossed with your local wine bar with the comfort of your living room dressed as a bar with a great local beer selection and a good enough variety of wine to keep you girlfriend/wife happy. In short, we love this place. Stop in and as Kyle about the reproductive habits of under sea creatures. That's always a conversation starter.
google avatar

Ikenna N.

Yelp
Great find in an unassuming Spring Branch strip mall. Awesome selection of all local Texas craft brews in a minimalist designed space with electronic real-time data on keg levels. I think they have wine too, didn't pay much attention outside of the beer menu.
google avatar

Chuck P.

Yelp
This place is what Spring Branch has needed for years! My wife and I were so excited to watch their progress building and their growth now! We love coming here! It's a great place for a casual drink or 2. We like to play games and relax here. Great service and staff! Also their selection of craft beer, wine, cider and more is awesome! Super cold and delicious draft drinks! Thankful to have you guys in the neighborhood!

Yelp
Cool place. The variety of breweries and styles is one of the best that I've seen. Ton of breweries I've never even heard of and I feel like I'm typically up to date on this subject matter. Relaxed atmosphere. Chill music. Friendly bartender. 40 beers on tap. What more could you want?
