"Part retailer and part tasting room, the 1,700-square-foot space at 1900 Blalock Rd will debut Cobble & Spoke and focus specifically on esoteric, small-batch wines and beers that are hard to come by elsewhere in Houston. It will seat 45 and can accommodate special events in-house or catered parties on location. Part-owner Kyle Steck says they are concentrating on truly independent, small craft operations — the smallest self-distributing breweries and home-grown Texas wines — and describes a “renaissance” in craft beer driven by diversity, variety and the stories behind these places; Steck partnered with Jen Masse and Joseph Schiller (Schiller and Steck previously worked together at a local brewery). They are finalizing beer orders and could not divulge specifics yet, but already stock the Majek label from Moravia, Texas, which Steck says is the only place in Houston that carries it. The owners chose the Spring Branch location because it was neither suburban nor downtown, hope to help spark a pub crawl, and are finalizing city inspections before announcing an opening date; planned hours are Sunday–Thursday noon to midnight and Friday–Saturday noon to 2 a.m." - Alaena Hostetter
