Pop Bagel and Coco Donuts Open New Restaurants across Portland - Eater Portland

"Picture-perfect doughnut company Coco Donuts opened a fifth location on the PSU campus, because nothing goes better with an all-nighter than a morning doughnut. Coco keeps things pretty traditional compared to some spots in town; the wildest flavor on the menu is a lavender glaze, but as the name suggests, the chocolate frosted varieties are the way to go. The new location is open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

Google
I am not sure if this is their intention or their standard soggy, mochi donut? I was utterly shocked and confused. Picked this up fresh at 9:00am on a Friday. I hope this is not their FRESH donut. But, I would be insulted if they served this old donut to customers.

Typically this place is alright. Donuts are a bit overpriced and drinks are… just okay. Today the service was especially bad. The employee working was on his phone sitting at a customer table when we came in. Asked if we were paying separately before even asking what we were going to get. Had his AirPods in and clearly couldn’t hear us. Was just yelling and rude the entire time. If he was mad that he had to serve a customer during (what I assume) was his break, I guess I’d understand. Maybe fix your staffing so that employees don’t take it out on the customers. If he wasn’t on his break… sorry for interrupting your phone time and making you do your job, man.

Google
The donuts are excellent, but I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around people saying that the prices are fair or reasonable. $24/dozen for their "basic" donuts and $28/dozen for their "premium" donuts is wild. That's nearly twice as much as you pay at a grocery store bakery, such as the nearby Safeway (which, admittedly isn't as good but I'm not sure that they're "twice as much better").

Google
You guys need get your hours fixed. The hours on here say 6:30am-1pm, the hours posted in your store are 7am-2pm, and your Too Good To Go pick-up window is 4-4:30. Me and a couple other people left disappointed because our pick-up times were set 3 hours after you closed. Love your donuts, hate the time wasted walking there.

Google
Great staff and donuts, the only thing I would say is to get there early as when I arrived the selection was limited as some flavors sold out by the time I got there around 10:30-11 am

I am boycotting here because of a very rude staff. She gave me only 11 donuts for two boxes (I purchased four boxes), which was understandable. BUT when I let her know this later, she almost blamed me for not having ordered online beforehand, which made her rush to box them up. I was the only customer who was ordering at the time (8:30 am). ----------------------------------- I am responding to the owner's feedback below here as Google maps doesn't allow me to comment on a previous reply in the same thread. First of all, thanks for your feedback. BUT you should know that I DID reach out to you directly through your website the day after the incident. But you didn't respond. That's why I had to make a review here. I wanted you to know what happened and take some measures to prevent similar issues in the future. It was the only reason I left a review here: to make my voice heard. Also, I never wanted to get a refund. My students did enjoy the donuts and my money was worth. No need to cancel the transaction. All I needed was you attempt to have a better relationship with customers so that there is no one who feels upset like me in the future. In fact, your comment here made me more frustrated. It seems that you don't check consumer reports on your website, but check online reviews to maintain your reputation. Please find my messages which was sent last Friday and make sure I DID contact you through your website and find out what exactly happened. Perhaps, her version of the story is different than mine. I don't blame for that. Everybody remembers things differently according to their involvement. Yet, you also should figure out what I felt at the moment as a customer. Again, I chose to make a review on Google map since you didn't get back to my message through your website. When you confirm you read this review on Google map as well as my message through your website, I will delete this online review since my goal is achieved. In addition, I believe you will do your best to make similar things not happen again. Here, by similar things, I don't mean giving 11 donuts for a box. I mean you blame customers for not ordering online. PS. I am not sure how you knew which transaction was mine though...?

Google
The donut that I had was very good. The coffee was acceptable. The prices, service, and atmosphere are fair.

Google
So twice now, I’ve been either double charged or charged for a tip I didn’t give. The girl with the insect tattoos routinely charges extra and won’t give receipts. I intend to raise this issue with the owners

Yelp
Apple Fritter 2.2/5 overall. Crispness 2/5. Flavor blend 3/5. Dough 3/5. Fruit volume 1/5. Size and Value 2/5. Cream Filled 4.8/5 overall. Icing/Topping 5/5. Dough 5/5. Filling 5/5. Size and Value 4/5. Glazed Buttermilk Bar 5/5 overall. Icing/Topping 5/5. Dough 5/5. Size and Value 5/5. Chocolate Bar 2.7/5 overall. Icing/Topping 2/5. Dough 3/5. Size and Value 3/5. Yelp
The staff has nice. The store was clean and welcoming. I tried the old fashion donut. It was solid donut.

Yelp
I love these donuts; all of them are high quality and taste fantastic. They don't just taste like an average donut but have the quality of a hand made pastry. I really enjoy the mochi donuts; they have different and excellent flavors every day. The staff is super friendly and informative with donuts, and its in a great place in the middle of PSU.

Yelp
We did a self resourced donut tour- these were by far my favorite. Mochi usually conjures up some gummy textures with too much bounce. These were not that mochi. These were pillow fresh, and delicious! I had the flavor of the month, mango - light, chewy and huge mango flavor. Loved it!

Yelp
Very small place but really good donuts! We absolutely loved the vibes there! The lavender donut is a must try!

Yelp
I love CoCo's! The donuts & coffee lure you in but the warm and uplifting staff keep you coming back! I've had some meaningful interactions with the associates here. Most recently, Paco at the PSU location brightened my partner's and my day. Paco even gave me tips on how to steam milk for at- home cortados! Keep up the stellar work CoCo's, y'all have a knack for finding the good things. See you soon. No pics because I ate/drank it all.

Yelp
Cute little place, but in a town with so much donut competition, these were a little bit of a let down. The coffee and donut special was nice. Cinnamon roll, old fashioned and an apple fritter. They tried to give my husband 3 separate bags to carry our purchase and when he asked for a larger bag, they gave him a dozen box to carry them. Walking distance to our hotel, quick service compared to the competitors who had a line out the door!

Yelp
Located next to the newly remodeled Karl Miller building at PSU. It's very convenient, and is worth going into just to marvel at the interior design. There's a big table for study groups, barstool tabletop seating by the window, some booths also by the window, and a bench to sit on near the door. One interesting thing to see here is their extensive drink menu, which includes drinks such as Thai Iced Tea and Matte Latte. They also serve coffee. Other than that, it's a pretty standard CoCo Donuts. There are many types of cake and glazed donuts! Be aware that this is again near PSU, so there are rushes of students at times. This may also be why there were a few dirty tables. Order: Lavender donut($1.50)-- Delicious as usual. Helped balance out the lack of sugar in the green tea. Iced Matcha 12oz($4.25)-- I was expecting something more sugary, which was my fault. It was okay, not nasty, but not what I expected. Something to note is that they charged for 16oz but I got a 12oz. Service: Good. Wait time: 3 minutes, which was surprising since it was busy and there was only one cashier. Bill: $

Yelp
Guess who has another fan? My husband brought me here a month ago before we shopped at Portland Farmers Market at PSU. We came back to Coco Donuts and the market the following weekend. It would've been a third consecutive weekend if it weren't for us being out of the state. The handcrafted donuts are fresh and soft and they have just the right amount of sweetness to avoid a sugar coma. I love their chocolate cake donuts with crushed peanuts and their donut holes are excellent. They might literally be the best donut holes I've eaten. If you order a latte a complimentary donut hole will be resting on your coffee lid. Speaking of coffee. It's roasted in house and I highly recommend ordering a cup of it along with their donuts. We've had the same gal help us each time and she has consistently been hardworking, friendly, and she creates a damn good cup of latte. Get to Coco Donuts now... except not on Sundays for this location.

Yelp
Came here to get some mochi donuts for my Sisnlaw and siblings. They open at 6am, but everything isn't out on the floor. So I had to wait for a while. I wanted to get several mochi donuts. I wish they did not stack the donuts or put it in flat position. It was all squish and the frosting touch one another smudge.

Yelp
Used to have terrific sugar raised donuts, this location has re-openned since the pandemic and the donuts are just so so, kinda heavy. Might try again in a year or so, as they are close by and were so good, but I know of a better place Delicious Donuts, cheaper too.

Yelp
Coco Donuts are among the best in the city, and this location is no exception. With its cute decor and friendly staff, it's a great way to start a morning. The hubby and I were doing our traditional jelly doughnut rounds for Chanukah and stopped in early this morning to give theirs a shot. As jellies go, this is the perfect version of what you're imagining. No frills, just a solid jam in a well-made dough covered in glaze. Mmm. I also got a buttermilk bar because it's my favorite thing here. The one thing I'm not big on is the apple fritter. I find the dough too, and lacking in apples. But, that's not what I'm looking for out of Coco, so it's all good. I'm so glad this location opened. It's a welcome addition to the neighborhood.

Yelp
Coco Donuts is a treat for a rainy day. Between classes, I often find myself craving a little pick-me-up. A donut paired with a small drink typically does the trick. I know that they very recently implemented a happy hr (forgot when) with a good deal on a pairing. If you're very picky about your drinks, the ones here probably won't satisfy your palette. I've tried a few (a coffee, London fog, hot coco, matcha, lavender latte) and they've all been kind of disappointing and lacked the rich, sweet, creamy flavor I expect. I always just get the white chocolate mocha and it gets the job done, but even with this one the smallest size is $5, which is why I only occasionally afford myself this luxury. The donuts are good -not too sweet, which I like. My favorites are the lavender, the one with peanuts, and the one with crumbs and cinnamon sprinkled on top. These ones are $1.50 each. I think the space very aesthetically pleasing and is great for meeting up with friends.

Yelp
I really like this new Coco Donuts location at PSU. Located at the Karl Miller Building, it is spacious and has fun decor. They serve a variety of donuts with the chocolate cake with coconut and the maple old fashioned being my favorite, plus their buttermilk and lavender donuts are also delicious. What I like about the donuts here are how fresh they are and their size. The employees are friendly and I enjoy the atmosphere of the place. This is a nice addition to the campus!

Yelp
Coco Donuts is a great little donut and coffee shop near PSU. The atmosphere is modern and welcoming. The staff are always friendly. They gave us extra donuts on the house since they were closing soon. The mochi donuts are by far the best. They aren't too sweet and have a nice chewy texture. The cold brew is also really good, tastes like cocoa beans.

Yelp
Coco Donuts has such a cute atmosphere. Nice and mellow but also with a modern take. The drinks they make are really fun! Unfortunately I forgot to snap a photo but I got a really delicious latte last time I went in. Also, their donuts are freaking tasty. They are more on the simple side although they taste bomb. Nothing to complain about, everything to rave about

Yelp
I frequently go to study at Coco Donuts. I love their lavender latte and the rose lemonade! Their Italian sodas are also delicious. Usually, I'll pair my drink with a lavender donut or an espresso donut, but on the chance those are sold out, I've ordered other donuts and have never been dissapointed! The cute coffee/donut shop has a great ambience and there is always great music playing! It's the perfect place to study, catch up with a friend, or take a break between classes!

Yelp
Great location for a donut craving. Relaxing location. You can have a basic donut or get one with a more "sophisticated" taste (lavender stands out). I couldn't believe the price, great for a walk up visit.

Yelp
What?!?! A coffee AND a donut for 2 bucks?! (See photo) Friendly Brannon, working the counter, helped us pick out donuts. We chose the raspberry filled donut and the chocolate donut with mini roasted marshmallows. Yummm. The coffee was robust, just the way we like. We sat at the perfect-for-people-watching window watching PSU students stroll by. Plenty of outdoor seating too. Maybe for Tinder meet ups? Knitting circle?? Can't go wrong with a freshly baked donut.
google avatar

Sam K.

Yelp
The donuts here were actually so much better than I expected (and I don't even really like donuts) when I popped in. This was a great place to have a sweet snacks dm get away from the chill outside. The windows all around make it nice and bright, plus there's plenty of seating for a group or bar seating if you're solo. The girl who rang me up was super friendly and for sure topped off my experience. Sam Approved

Yelp
Coco donuts my kiddo loves you. The donuts are priced like it's the 90s which makes me happy. But for the love of god if you're going to serve a London Fog, please know how it is made. Wikipedia it if you have to. Hailing from Vancouver BC, the birthplace of the London Fog, I've been drinking these for 20 years and they are always, always, always made with the same ingredients. There is only the ONE version. It is as follows: Early grey tea, steamed milk AND the most magical ingredient, vanilla syrup. The vanilla syrup is what makes it taste like a fluffy, glorious, tea infused marshmallow. Earl grey and milk is simply that. Earl grey and milk. This does not make a London Fog no matter how you swing it. You can't charge $3.75 for a tea with milk, but add in the vanilla and you've got yourself a deal.

Steve H.

Yelp
Way to much hype for what you get. Reasonable prices and nice staff! Better donuts elsewhere

Yelp
Coco's is my favorite spot for donuts in Portland! The cake donuts are amazing and glazed twists are a close second. If you like classic donuts without all of the crazy overdone toppings, this is your spot!

Thiên K.

Yelp
i love coco donut so much!! the workers are so nice, they were very helpful in helping me choose the flavors. i saw that they had these mochi donuts and upon trying them. it was so soft and flavorful. I absolutely loved it and will definitely be coming back to try more of their flavors!
google avatar

Amy P.

Yelp
Yummy donuts with interesting flavors like lavender. Seating area to enjoy your coffee and donut. Nice presentation and shop decor.

B G.

Yelp
Donuts were good, but sweet. Bavarian cream fill was OK, Lemmon Meringue was great, but tart.

Taylor A.

Yelp
Oh my gosh the gluten free vegan rice balls are so amazing. I am allergic to gluten and dairy and I was so happy to have something donut like that was so amazing.
google avatar

Subhia M.

Yelp
This place is sooo cute & the workers are friendly! The lavender donut is definitely worth it! Also, it's good to study there!

Aiden N.

Yelp
This donut place is so good. I had about 5 different donut types and they were all stellar. I prefer them to Voodoo in taste. They also have a very modern look which I like.

Vincent B.

Yelp
I love this spot not only for its proximity to KMC but for their donuts most importantly. They're always fresh and still warm and their coffee drinks are great. An almond milk latte w til can be upwards of $5 but their Coco Hour is the best deal I've found anywhere really. $2 for an 8oz cup of hot Stumptown coffee and a donut (some flavors excluded). I'll wake up early just to come here before class.

Rolled O.

Yelp
this place is absolutely disgusting. you'd think it would be this cute hipster coffee/donut shop but the workers are extremely rude and act very condescending. DO NOT ORDER THE COLD BREW COFFEE. it tastes foul!!! also if you want to add a milk alternative to your coffee don't buy it for 75¢, because they have a station where you can out in your own milk/almond milk FOR FREE. DONT PAY FOR ALTERNATIVE MILK, ITS A SCAM! also the donuts are not as good as they look, they are over priced and don't even taste like a good donut. krispy kreme is WAY better.

Micayla C.

Yelp
best lavender donuts ever. everyone there is so nice, they have a lot to choose from and great coffee. highly recommend trying this place!
