Coco Loco Seafood

I photographed some delicious looking food at Coco Loco today. The restaurant has a great atmosphere and the staff were extremely friendly. If you're looking for some tasty Mexican Seafood, this is the place.

First let me start off and say this place is by far the best mariscos place I’ve ever tried in Chicago. Since moving to Chicago I’ve been missing a taste of home and WOW this place delivered! This hidden gem has some of the best verde aguachilies I’ve ever tried. They are spicy but I did not care, the flavor explodes. Im definitely hooked and will bring my friends, family, and if you’re even considering GO. This place is cozy, great vibes, and the service is well above and beyond mg expectations. Don’t pass this place up I’ll definitely be back!!

The food was a little pricey, but it is some what expected for sea food.The portions were fair. The food was great and worth every penny. The coconut lemonade was really creative and good. Overall a good experience, decor was cozy and again food was great.

First visit yesterday, it will not be my last. Outstanding mixed ceviche, diablo shrimp, homemade guacamole, and carne asada tacos. Portion sizes are generous for the amount charged, everything tasted fresh and delicious, the staff was awesome! Very glad to have found this local gem!

Food was super fresh, friendly staff, nice service, highly recommended for a quick bite, their shrimp empanadas are amazing, aguachile was fire! Super spicy, flavors are on point, shrimp cocktail was good as well!! Don't forget try the coconut lemonade

If you're looking for a "SEAFOOD" place than Coco loco is your place. It's a hole in the wall Hidden Jam!!!!!! Great place for seafood. The hostes has great customer service. The food is delicious and portions are big enough to share. But I choose not to share mine 😉. I highly recommend this restaurant. I know your asking why did I rated a 4 star and not a 5 star. Simple they don't have a liquor license so I would have given them ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. Don't worry you won't be disappointed........ ambience and food are great.

One of the best ceviches I've had in a long time. Great service, huge portions, fresh items. Couldn't ask for anything else. I only wish I lived close so I could come in more often:

I am 100% Puerto Rican and I prefer this Mexican Coco Loco restaurant over the Puerto Rican Jibarito Time next door to it. Last time I went to Jibarito the food was way too salty and not as great as Coco Loco. I'd much rather go to Coco Loco Mexican again. Coco Loco is very flavorful, great drinks, cute decor, and I will be coming back. I'm so happy I found this Mexican restaurant! Another great restaurant, if you're looking for great Puerto Rican food, is Jibaritos on Harlem, which is wayyy better than Jibarito Time Des Plaines.

Was dropping off my brother for a flight back home on Father's Day and figured...why not see if there's a place for dinner as long as we were away from home. Found Coco Loco on Yelp and we had a great time with a small seafood mix (we wanted octopus and fish ceviche, but not in a cocktail) along with pair of fish and pair of shrimp tacos (tried fish on flour tortillas, shrimp on corn - yeah breaking soe rules here). Was offered a free shot or dessert on Father's Day. Went with their Churro Loco which was great with warm crispy churros on ice cream with chocolate syrup. Cash discount of 10%...put our meal including tax at $33.33. (and was introduced to the concept of angel numbers). BYOB with liquor store next door! Service is friendly and conversational!

I loved this place! It's one of those places that I feel is going to blow up on TikTok soon. When you walk in, you walk down this wall that can totally be a photo op. We came on Saturday afternoon and there was a decent crowd inside but not overly packed where we had to wait. There are only 8(ish) tables in there so I can see this place having a waitlist if it does blow up. Service was great. Our waitress recommended the new pineapple or mango aguas frescas in a take home cup that were delicious (mango was my fave!). Food was phenomenal! I got the taco trio but honestly could do without the steak taco (carne asada) that came on the plate - the shrimp and fish taco were the star! Shrimp ceviche was also flavorful. Our whole table left satisfied. Side note: the restaurant is BYOB if you like. Have already recommended this to family to check out. Will definitely be back!

Mexican inspired seafood at a great price. We got the ceviche, cheesy empanadas, langostinos, coco loco, fish chicharron and churros. The server was amazing and gave us fantastic recommendations. Small and super cute inside that feels like you're on vacation. Oh and it's BYOB w a liquor store next door! How perfect!

Amazing food !!! Located in a small strip mall, it is easy to miss, but when you walk in you are entering a coastal, relaxing environment, The place is small, and quickly filled up while we were there. Service was very good and offered suggestions. We started with a shrimp cocktail. It was not your traditional shrimp cocktail, but it was excellent. It was served in bowl of cocktail sauce , with cilantro onions and other spices. There was a sweetness to it! The portion was very good. My husband had the Loco Shrimp. It was shrimp seasoned with a variety of spices served with rice, salad and garlic bread. It was very good and the number of shrimp were very generous. I had the Mojarra a la Nayarit. WOW...a whole tilapia seasoned and topped with a sauce. It was so flavorful. It is described as breaded, but the breading was more of a topping. It was under $17 and again the portion was amazingly large. This was a peasant surprise , reasonable prices, great food and staff. We will be back to try other selections.

Fresh waters, fresh fish...this civicheria has only been in operation for two years and it's already making strides. Situated in a tiny strip mall the vibe is energetic and refreshing, serving Mexican seafood. Had the cheesy shrimp empanadas, sauces were a nice touch, and shared the "coco loco" a beautifully filled to the brim coconut mixed with shrimp, octopus, surimi, spices, tomatoes, avocado and coconut chunks. Served with tostadas and crackers the traditional way. Dinner was accompanied with a passion fruit water and a classic agua mineral served with salt, lime and Tajín. Quite impressed for a nice little local spot! Happy Cinco de Mayo!!!

Super fresh and delicious seafood. Loved the tropical/island vibe and obsessed with the Coco Limonada. Small dining area but we came in on a Wednesday evening around 6 and only one other table occupied. Service was friendly and helpful. We will be back again :)

Great place! Love the seafood focus! Def get the aguachiles and coco-lemonada! Fish and shrimp tacos are excellent! Best I had in Chicago and outside of the Mexican coastal area!!!

first off. love the impressions the restaurant brings to their customers. i wish i took a photo of the interior but it was full of night club beach vibes (done in a tasteful way). everything was popping and just had a good wholesome vibe to it. the restaurant was playing great music and got me feeling excited for the summer. friendly staff and lovely patrons in the restaurant now the food. we were recommended an assortment of dishes and they all look amazing. even as a take out order, everything was nice and hot and well prepped. so i appreciated that nothing was soggy or containers were flimsy. also every box had a thank you note on it which was a very sweet tough and warmed the heart. with all the dishes here, i was the most excited to see they offered Langostinos! i love shrimp and just langostinos is my guilty pleasure/comfort food. and i think i found my new langostinos spot. crunchy, crispy, shrimp packed and just amazing to have. next we have the shrimp ceviche and octopus tostada. i paired them together cause of their similar freshness vibes. wonderful citrus and fresh seafood taste. flavorful with every bite and just kept wanting more. the fish chicharrones were such a nice surprise. just a delectable snack to enjoy. and tbh i could hit a whole bucket of these. the shrimp empanadas were pockets full of good flavor with a nice balance between salty and umami overall everything was a nice, pleasant surprise. the staff and owners gave me the impression they loved having us as customers. felt welcome and happy from the summer beach vibes and the pleasant attitudes from the staff. lovely place and my gf and i will be returning more often. thank you coco loco for becoming our new go to mexican spot for years to come!

Excellent food and service. Great decor. The shrimp cocktail was the best I've ever had. I had two shrimp tacos that were tasty and just the right amount of spice. Hubby had two steak tacos that he wolfed down. This is going on our list of great places to eat.

The food was delicious! The shrimp empanadas are definitely my favorite! They also brought us churros and shots to celebrate my brother in law's birthday. recommended

Wow. I'm from California and am always weary of trying Mexican food elsewhere but this place is amazing. The mixed fish ceviche is so fresh and refreshing. Staff are friendly and have amazing recommendations. Will be back for sure!

I'm back in town for work and usually stay around O'Hare for convenience. I wanted to try something different from the usual stuff and glad I did a little search. I came across Coco Loco's through a search of places in the area and decided to give it a try. Def glad I decided to try them. I was ordering takeout dinner early (5:30ish) so I was the only one at the time. The place looked clean and brightly decorated. They had a clean, well spaced dining area with a few tables if you wanted to dine there. I was greeted by Kathia who was very helpful when I asked for recommendations. I decided to try a fish taco, a shrimp taco, and the octopus cocktail. I ordered too much food but wanted to try them. The portions are good size and you can taste the ingredients. Glad I gave the place a try and will probably come back again next time I'm in the area.

Coco loco was fabulous. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was friendly and welcoming, and we had a great time trying the different foods!

This place has some of the best ceviche and agua chiles I've ever tasted! This is also some of the best food I've had here in Chicago!

Awesome ceviche. Very nice, small location. Delicious all around. Had the empanadas, ceviche and fish taco. Fish taco tastes exactly as I love had on the beach in puerto Vallarta. Outstanding customer service. Will be back soon. Go check it out, you love it.

Amazing so surprised this little gem is undiscovered. After being on a quest to find the perfect ceviche after falling in love with it Peru, I found it! The Peruvian places in the city aren't quite as good as this, so happy it's in my neighborhood. Staff is beyond friendly and accommodating. The places decor is awesome as well! Check it out

Came in a few minutes before closing, was welcomed (could've been turned away, it was that close), and ordered to go. Festive dining area, and great fish and shrimp tacos. Will go back, especially to try that michelada. Thanks Coco Loco!

Lent Friday and hungry after work.I spotted this place and boy was more than I expected. The welcoming atmosphere and multi tasking host was friendly. The shrimp ceviche churro was on point and made my quick stop take a breather. The only thing I will suggest the prepared agua mineral needed more flavor . Next time i come maybe a 5 star which is really close

Friendly, airy and different, the name of this restaurant also gives you the most important information you need: come here for fresh ceviche. Don't be fooled by the fact that it's counter service and a smallish dining area. It's got great light and atmosphere, and the quality and freshness might surprise you; it's impressive. Our food came out quickly, and the staff was happy to explain and recommend choices for new customers like us. Definitely recommended if you want to have/try ceviche.

Really excellent ceviche and more in a little storefront restaurant. Highly recommend giving the place a try. Doesn't look much from the outside but it's worth it.

Hidden gem! If your in the mood for delicious seafood this is the place ! Small restaurant , beautiful decor, you order at the counter then the staff brings your food to the table . You do have to clean up after yourself throwing away the disposable plates and cups but no biggie. We had the shrimp tacos, the shrimp and cheese empanadas (skip) , carne asada tacos , coco loco all types of seafood surrounding a coconut, a margarita and their version of a michelada. The food was delicious very fresh, the margarita was okay a little too sweet for me could have used more tequila, the michelada was delicious . Cute spot, delicious food, wonderful music, if you want to feel like your on vacation I highly recommended this restaurant .

Wonderful. Everything tastes fresh and has lots of pizzaz. Their homemade salsa is spicy but too delicious to pass up. Everything is well priced and the folks are friendly and helpful. I love the fish and/or the shrimp tacos and the shrimp cocktail is a must especially with just a touch of hot sauce. The music is VERY loud. So. Be aware. It's loud but it's also rockin'! Haha.

Looked through all the photos and couldn't find a steak taco, tried to call to ask if they do and the phone numbers on yelp and google are disconnected... get it together guys... sheesh

Seriously. This is the cutest place. Fresh seafood and super flavorful. You can skip the empanadas.

Loved the vibe, energy on server wasn't great but was polite order shrimp and cheese empanadas out of the order of 4 only 2 had a good amount of shrimp. Fish tacos aren't cod.

All of the other positive reviews will go more in depth than I will about individual items. Curbside service went perfectly and the woman I spoke to on the phone when I placed my order was so helpful and spoke so highly of the food. That's always a good sign! Thank you for existing! For the price the portions are huge, the food is super fresh, the hot items stay hot. I couldn't be more happy!

We came in not knowing what to expect. We tried ceviche and some empanada as a snack. What a treat! The portion was huge, and the ceviche was fantastic - as good as some I had in a Costa Rica beachside restaurant many years ago! The people are also very friendly and helpful. We need to try this place again, with a greater appetite, and try more items.

Love this place!! This little place packs a big punch of great fresh flavors!! The food makes me feel like I'm in Mexico eating somewhere on Isla mujeres... Can't wait to try everything in the menu! My wife and I ordered fish, shrimp, and carne asada tacos, in addition to a small order of ceviche - probably too much food for just the two of us, but we couldn't make up our minds on what to get. Everything was really good. We did Grubhub, so I didn't spend much time inside beyond when I picked up the food, but inside looked really nice too. Highly recommend this place, we will be coming back.

Their sauces are very flavorful as well as spicy! Empanadas are crunchy with just the right amount of cheese! And they added fresh avocado for my tostada! Will definitely come back!

We've been here several times in the past few months and I wanted to give them shout-out. I usually get the Cod Sandwich. It's delicious; just a tad spicy, and the cabbage is a clever addition as it stays crunchy where lettuce would not. My wife usually gets the Fried Shrimp, which are quite large and also good. Nothing is greasy or overcooked, including the seasoned fries, which we both love. I also heartily recommend the Guacamole with tostadas. I make my own Guac and this is just as good if not better. Nice people too.

If you love fresh Mexican ceviche, this is your spot. Reasonable prices with generous portions and great service . Restaurant was very clean with cheery decor. Will definitely return! Ceviche, shrimp, fish and steak tacos along with shrimp empanadas equals happiness. Credit cards are accepted but cash is king!

I been coming to el coco loco almost every weekend. I get the tray for 4 people. The mixed ceviche is very very good. The green salsa perfect with the ceviche. I just feel that for the amount you get and the price it a bit overpriced. I had paid $27.00 the first time and now that I came back it was $35.00 for the tray. Then you look at the amount of ceviche and for the $35.00 just expensive. I had there empanadas de camarón with cheese and they are good. The large shrimp cocktail with pulpo is a very good size portion and for a 18.00 bucks it not bad. There aguachiles are good but the seasoning is a bit salty but not bad and the spicy is perfect. I do highly recommend the place just wished I got a bit more ceviche for the price. Also the owner very nice guy. Inside the restaurant it very clean and updated. Check it out

My boyfriend and I discovered this gem in October and have since been there probably about 8 times. Their fish tacos and shrimp tacos are to die for. We've also had their shrimp empanada, French fries, and fish ceviche tostada which were superb but our hearts definitely belong to the tacos. My boyfriend said it's one of the best shrimp taco he's ever had. They are well-priced, always fresh, and honestly just delicious. The restaurant itself is always clean and the staff have always been so friendly, especially the girl who takes our orders. They also have delicious salsa options and plenty of drink options. Highly recommend!

Food was AMAZING! We had mixed ceviche, fried fish tacos, and shrimp tacos. The service was great and they had good lunch specials. Would definitely eat there again!!!

Third time here in less than a month! The ceviche is fresh and tastes amazing! Their house green salsa has a kick but you can't stop eating it.. Portions are also very big! Nice selection of beers and recently added sangria is also deelish!! Great lunch spot or lighter dinner. I highly recommend and will be coming back!

We were in the area of the O'Hare hotels and looking for something casual but with good food. Coco Loco gave us both. There is limited indoor seating, but we were seated at a perfect table just as the food arrived. Fish tacos, octopus salad, shrimp tacos and the fish platter filled our party of four. Diners should be aware that all of the dishes are mildly spicy, and that suited us fine.

Very cute place with delicious food. Prices are appropriate for the portion you are provided. Definitely coming back if quality is consistent l, which it has been so far.
