Yelp
This is my goto spot in Sawtelle, and is for once, a simple Coffee Shop with no ridiculous modern gimmicks or frills.
For the judgmental type or the tourist-- Its a bit dusty and rough around the edges at all turns.
The wood seating is bent and warped. The relaxing music is unwavering, and menu items are tacked to the clerk acrylic with printer paper. But Coffee Tomo is home, and feels like a coffee shop for just REGULAR people, not hollywood types.
Drawing, studying, painting, even coding, meeting with friends-- this is a space for that. People watching, dog watching-- its a great spot for that too. The sunlight the location gets is like a warm blanket (sometimes for better or worse-- the AC can be spotty during the summer).
No one bothers you if you're there to work for a few hours, no one is breathing down your neck to move out of your seat. Locals are regulars, for a good reason: Tomo is CONSISTENT. It's in a good spot, has a good amount of seating on weekdays, and the quality of the beans is genuinely good.
In my honest opinion and 15+ years of brewing my own coffee, me and my partner: all of their whole bean selections are solid.
Brew, espresso, cold brew, all bold, refreshing and legit.
Their tea is very very light, and very delicious. Though ive been told by others that they think it's too light! My fave is the pomegranate green tea, its so light but delicious, extremely refreshing on a hot day.
Menu items, I think they're all good. I think the avocado toast is really underrated, it has excellent portions and tastes fresh, great dressing. And the Butter toast (?) Despite being here for years, I dont think I've had more than once-- its BIG-- meant to share, also great.

EXTRA: Info and spotlight on the OWNER:
Looking through the comments: there's a lot upsetting and negative comments about the OWNER.
Let me say this right now: if you've had stern / nonverbal asian dad or relative in your life, HE IS NOTHING new. His patience for bs and taking up other people's time is -1000. When you walk up, know your order if he's at the counter and just keep it brief lol. Thank me later.
He's Usually in a polo shirt and khakis, very tight lipped and arms crossed. I bring my own parents to Tomo whenever they visit, and my dad standing next to him was like a mirror image. Be tuned in the ways of a cranky 50 something male, and you'll be rewarded. Heck, even surprised-- he actually enjoys small talk a lot, just very specific topics, and brief too (he will sometimes go longer than you think though, and even smile, wow!) Try asking about the bean source or even ordering in Korean. He likes those who show him respect and are interested in the restaurant, just don't annoy him, don't bore him either.
He may even compliment your shirt if it has some obscure japanese or korean stuff on it!! He likes art a lot.
He's a serious guy, he's protective of his store, he wants the whole operation done right.... and He wants no foolishness.
If this intimidates you, make the trek up the street to get some coffee at 10 speed-- that will be more your "vibe", maybe. Not as an insult but as pure honesty. Either way, the younger staff learn all the right behavior from this guy and are very kind and responsive.
