The 19 Best Coffee Shops In San Francisco - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"In the plot twist of the century, it turns out that CoffeeShop is—surprise—a coffee shop. And it’s a damn good one. This Bernal Heights takeout counter (they also have a location in the Mission) is an early morning haven of fantastic coffee and housemade pastries. Whether you want your caffeine in pour-over form or as something a little more splashy, like the well-spiced dirty chai, it’ll consistently function as your much-needed pick-me-up. We also love this place because they use coffee ice cubes, so you’ll never have to worry about a watered-down latte again." - julia chen 1, lani conway, ricky rodriguez, patrick wong

Google
Food was pretty good, but the Cappuccino didnt taste good and the Coffee was basically water. Seems like a popular place, hence the premium prices, Got a dirty look from the tall woman making the Coffee for asking for milk. Again, the bakeries and Salmon Croissant were pretty good, but we came for the coffee and it was horrible. Just being honest guys. Sorry.

Google
Omgosh, I think their croissants are perfection! Really great coffee too, might be one of my fav coffee shops in this part of town, so good!

Google
I went in today around 3:30 and got helped by a very nice young man. I asked for recommendations for pastries and he broke down his choices for sweet and savory. He talked me into a cappuccino and it was absolutely incredible! I ended getting the raspberry cruffin that he recommended and it was so buttery, flaky, sweet and delicious. I will definitely be coming back. Highly recommend this place for anyone in the neighborhood:)

Google
Visit pretty much everyday. Always has seating, amazing matcha for a spot that doesn’t solely focus on matcha. Great pastries. Can’t go wrong. Shame it’s so tucked away.

Ben Taborek

Google
Really great coffee drinks and pastries in a nice convenient space. Impressed to learn that they bake all their own pastries and roast their own beans in-house. Not the best coffee in the city, nor the best croissant but very solid for both.

M Gurung

Google
Excellent coffee with great ambiance and amazing service! Will definitely go back.

Google
The coffee shop is a bit hard to find, probably because its name is literally coffeeshop, even Google is confused. However, when you find it, it is a cute little neighborhood cafe that serves your standard espresso drinks. Coffee was tasty. They also serve pastries, those were fresh. I got a croissant which was really nice. There is some limited seating outside, but overall the cafe is quite small. Would recommend.

Google
A cute little coffee shop I encountered during the day of the Grand Carnival. I was really impressed with everything. Varities of coffee, pastries and the atmosphere. Very inviting little place. Also most importantly was very clean. Highly recommend to anyone in this neighborhood. If you are looking for a coffee place go to the COFFEESHOP!

Yelp
Great little spot on Mission. Great coffee and pastries. Just met Wilson, the owner. Very good dude

Yelp
Something has happened to the espresso here. I used to recommend it regularly, but my recent Americanos have tasted thin. And my partner's Americano today was devoid of coffee flavor and, in the end, undrinkable. It wasn't worth the $4.50 for sure. My advice to the owner: Ask someone to order an Americano for you, then taste it. Is it what you want to serve? On the positive side, the staff were nice and the pastries looked as good as ever.

Yelp
Apparently, this coffee shop has multiple locations throughout SF, and I'm glad we stopped by. I ordered a small iced vanilla oat milk latte and really enjoyed it. The service was friendly, the shop was clean and cozy, and they even had delicious banana bread samples out. I was in and out just before closing. Hubs also enjoyed his iced mocha. Overall, this coffee shop was good find. Cheers!

Yelp
Went here on Saturday, and was pleased with the cafe. Got a London Fog, and a Pistachio Rose Croissant. The drink was a perfect blend of tea and oat milk- right consistency, and balanced flavor. The croissant was probably my favorite pastry Ive had in a long time. It was flaky, airy, fresh, and had great texture. The nutty flavor of pistachios went smoothly with the rosy sweetness. Just writing this review made me drool. I know where I am going this weekend for breakfast

Yelp
Loved this coffee shop! The service was great and speedy and the pastries were super tasty! The coffee shop itself was was very well and minimalistically decorated We stopped by on a Saturday morning as we were waiting on El Mil Amores across the street. It was such a nice appetizer as we were waiting and cannot wait to return!

Yelp
* date visited: 10.26.2024 * ordered: dirty matcha, regular latte, pistachio rose croissant, meyer lemon cruffin if coffeeshop has 0 fans then i am dead! everything was really really good -- the pastries were amazing and i was impressed to learn that they bake in house :o im usually iffy on getting matcha from places that dont specialize, but happy to report that this drink is probably top 3 favorite matcha latte i've had in the city so far (i went back twice in one week) the roast for the espresso shots is on the darker side as a heads up, may want to add sweetener if that's not your preference! i also see that they use coffee ice cubes in their iced drinks, the attention to detail is really admirable. the shop has such cute outdoor seating and i've really enjoyed walking over and sitting to read or journal. service is always super friendly and i can't wait to return :)

Yelp
Can't believe it's taken me this long to finally come here; really wish I had come sooner because this is now one of my favorite coffee shops in the city! There's a decent amount of seating both inside and out, so you won't have trouble finding a seat. The interior is quite modern and seems recently remodeled; super airy and bright. Staff is also friendly and fast. I got a cortado, and it was exactly what I want in my cortado. Deep and rich in flavor, beans roasted perfectly without being overly dark, well balanced with the foamed milk. I believe they roast their beans in house, which certainly helps. A really good place to grab a coffee and chill for an hour or two. Highly highly recommend!

Yelp
Ordered a vanilla latte and a mocha to drink, and an everything croissant and raspberry cruffin to eat. Mocha was good and chocolately, not too sweet. Vanilla latte was smooth and had great flavor. The coffee was a bit more on the acidic side. Service was great and quick. The cruffin was my favorite - nice sweet raspberry jam and a crispy flaky cruffin. The everything croissant was flavorful, though the cream cheese makes the croissant seem less flaky.

Yelp
I randomly picked this place to have coffee date with my girlfriend. It is a small yet cute coffee shop, there are two outside tables and two inside tables and few extra chairs. I ordered the decaf americano with soy milk and it was perfection. I was told by the cute guy working there that the coffee is roasted there and the baking is all done by the owner herself. I was too late to try vegan options but they have them, they were just sold out for the day. Coffee was delicious and just right temperature. Did I mention that the man who helped us was cute? yeah...ok. PS. They sell whole bean coffee on the premises.

Yelp
Stopped by one morning on my way to work to try out their matcha latte & it was super disappointing. It was grainy, the matcha wasn't fully whisked well & the milk overpowered the matcha taste itself. Maybe it was an off day, but there's definitely other places with better matcha in SF. I would come back to try their coffee and pastries next time, but will definitely be avoiding the matcha.

Yelp
I wanted to support our local coffee shop and stumbled upon this small but quaint shop while looking for another coffee shop. I am very picky about my mocha's and I was so pleasantly surprised. My mocha was not only less expensive than Blue Bottle but it was very smooth. I ended buying their beans and I am very happy with it
google avatar

Yelp
I work nearby and randomly walked past here during the last heat wave. I grabbed an espresso tonic and it was a perfect refreshing drink! Service was very friendly and quick. Definitely going to come back to grab another drink and maybe a pastry soon
google avatar

Vy N.

Yelp
5 stars for croissants 2 stars for coffee Croissants are great here. Coffee is expensive and somehow tasteless just as good as starbucks. Came out luke warm, i am so disappointed. I was a fan but not sure what happened to the coffee and today was my last day being customer at Coffeeshop

Yelp
I wish I lived closer so this could be my regular coffee shop to visit! | v i b e | There are a few spaces both inside and outside where you can sit with a laptop/book or to enjoy your coffee. The baristas are pretty friendly as well! The neighborhood is fairly calm so it's a nice area to visit. | m e n u | I always stop by when I'm in the area for a pick-me-up. I usually get an iced vanilla latte. A notable bonus is that they use coffee ice cubes which will prevent your coffee from being watered down. I recently tried a matcha latte as well and it was very tasty. They also have a pretty extensive variety of savory and sweet pastries to choose from which I appreciate for the days that I need a lil snackie. | t l ; d r | A very well-rounded coffee shop. Definitely would recommend if you're in the area!

Yelp
Mmmm good coffee and scrumptious pastries. We particularly liked the everything croissants and the almond croissants that are stuffed with basically marzipan (they're the ones without powdered sugar on top). The heavy black pottery feels good to hold. We had a really grumpy barista but looking through the reviews I think they were just having a tough day. Good location, there are a bunch of cafes nearby but this was our favorite actually. Street parking available.

Yelp
Did not expect to be so blown away by this place! It's a little out of the way and super minimalistic and understated from the outside but the space is beautiful and airy with high ceilings and natural light. Their menu is compact and their display case of pastries very attractive. My boyfriend claims the latte ($5.50) is the best he's ever had. I had to try the Thai Breakfast ($6.50) which is cold brew blended with banana, oat milk, and "spices." It had a runnier consistency than a smoothie but definitely had some viscosity to it from the banana--like a pulpy juice almost. I didn't mind it at all, the banana puree definitely gives it a creaminess and sweetness without being heavy! The spices were overwhelmingly cardamom in note. I personally love cardamom but had been expecting more cinnamon or lemongrass or something, perhaps because of the name Thai? Regardless we loved our drinks and will definitely be back! Such a unique craft coffee experience. The baristas are highly skilled!

Yelp
Intimate chill shop and kind staff that interacts with their customers. I was really able to customize my coffee and it did not disappoint. I haven't had such a good coffee in a while.

Yelp
Drink: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Stopped by this coffee shop on a Wednesday morning before work and glad that I woke up early just to try this place out :) I ordered an iced vanilla latte and it was sooo good. It also came with coffee ice cubes - nice touch! The baristas here are very nice and welcoming when I walked in. The inside is small but there is this small bar seating area and outdoor seating. The pastries looked good - didn't try any but I will when I come back. This is now one of my fave coffee shops in the city!
google avatar

Lilly M.

Yelp
Small, modern coffee shop ~20 mins walk from Dolores. We went out of our way to get iced matchas and it was worth it! We got one with oat milk and another with regular, and both were full of flavor. One of the better matcha lattes I've had through the city.
google avatar

elizabeth t.

Yelp
Loved their pastries and their lattes were delicious...not bitter like some can be They only have one table inside so get here early if you want to sit inside But there are plenty outside The service was friendly too I asked the Asian barista for pastry recommendations and she was very polite and patient I will be back !
google avatar

Roop K.

Yelp
An amazing cafe in the neighborhood situated right next to a nail salon and the 27 bus line. Croissants here are the best I've ever had - flaky but soft inside and the chocolate ones have a decadent inside. I usually get americanos here which always are smooth and creamy which I have never ever seen anywhere else. I am amazed at the richness of the coffee flavour, the smoothness of the coffee, and overall taste. Little seating inside so more grab and go
google avatar

Yelp
sooooooo happy to stop by again to try the dirty matcha - it was delicious and the perfect afternoon drink to keep me awake!! the know nothing was so yummy, like a ball of banana bread with crunch from the coconut flakes and sweetness from the apricots and currants. i love their selection of vegan and dairy free pastries. coming back again soon to try more baked goods!

Kayley

Yelp
Consistently one of the best matchas in the city and the people are great. Love having a good neighborhood staple like CoffeeShop
google avatar

Fatty L.

Yelp
I was in need of caffeine after running errands, ended up at Coffee Shop on a whim. This space is small and warm from the roaster. Solid coffee, tasty pastries.
google avatar

Dakota T.

Yelp
Came here this past Saturday for the first time and had a great experience! Got a cortado and 4 different pastries that were all great. The guy working there, who was super friendly, said that all pastries were made in house. The place is pretty small so it makes the pastries being so excellent that much more impressive. We got a classic croissant, almond croissant, everything croissant and chive cheese muffin. The everything croissant was my favorite with the cream cheese filling being the perfect amount.
google avatar

Angela L.

Yelp
I really love riding my bike here (it's all flat from SOMA!) on the weekends. It's a cute coffee shop on a quiet street in the mission with delicious beverages. My fav thing is they serve their drinks with cold brew ice cubes so your drinks never get watered down. drinks I've tried so far: - thai breakfast (cold brew with a banana blended in it) which was pretty good if you're hankering for a smoothie - iced latte (classic and perfect) - sherpa coffe (cold brew with butter, coconut oil, mct oil) I was pretty skeptical about the sherpa coffee because it sounds really hippie, but it actually ended up being my fav that I've tried so far. Definitely come check this place out!
google avatar

Brian C.

Yelp
I stumbled on this place on the way to work . The interior design and building facade was very modern and aesthetically pleasing. The employee working their that morning seemed to have a bad day. I ordered a Sherpa and I tried to make friendly conversation and learn more about the store however I felt unwelcomed. The barista made my drink in record time. It was probably one of the fastest drinks that was made. I believe in second chances and will be back to try the other drinks and give this place a second chance.

Sarah J.

Yelp
Coffee was decent enjoyed its richness. The gentlemen behind the counter wasn't the most friendly ,I felt rushed, I understand I came in 10 min before closing time but I was just taking my coffee to go I wasn't gonna sit in :(
google avatar

Moukthika O.

Yelp
Cute, basic coffee shop! baristas are so wonderful and super nice and coffee is really good! One of my favorite go to's for a good cup of coffee. Parking is a little challenging, but worth it.

Yelp
I love CoffeeShop! I've long been a fan of their Bernal Heights location but this one is in a better location even if parking can be a little tough at times. I've been to this location a couple of times and it is great, especially on a sunny San Francisco day where you can enjoy the outdoor seating. The cold brew is excellent, the cappuccinos are also very good, employees are friendly and nice, and the pastries are delicious too. I assumed they got their pastries from somewhere else but they actually make them themselves and are so good. I really enjoyed the hazelnut and chocolate chip cookie and it went really nicely with the coffee. Between the two locations, I've had a number of their drinks over the years and everything was really really good. They also have a nice tea selection if you prefer that and a variety of milk options (whole, oat, soy, and almond!). It looked like it was mostly (possibly only) outdoor seating though I could be misremembering. The prices are pretty comparable to similar spots in SF and it's always nice to support local businesses. You can also buy their beans for brewing at home. Most of the time you can find parking in the neighborhood if you look for a little bit.
google avatar

Sarah C.

Yelp
they use coffee ice cubes in their iced coffee, which is super cool because it doesn't water down the coffee! the shop is tiny and seating is outdoors but it's a very quiet and peaceful street.
google avatar

Masha K.

Yelp
This cafe is our required stop every Saturday morning. Love the dirty matcha, and the meyer lemon curd cruffin is to die for. Exceptional coffee, pastries, and service. A gem in the neighborhood!
google avatar

Aaron C.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this cafe by accident, and boy am I happy I did. I'm a sucker for cafes and minimalist designs. Going to coffee shops is probably one of my more missed activities from pre-pandemic days. Wilson is the owner, super friendly and high energy guy. I'm a supporter of small business and chopping it up with him and hearing his story of going from tech, to starting Coffee Shop with his wife (this location is their home base if you will, where they roast beans and bake all their pastries). Just a super cool guy and dope story. They also roast with this zero emission roaster, which apparently was designed in Berkeley. EVEN THE LABELING IS HIS DESIGN UTILIZING HIS TECH BACKGROUND IN DESIGN! Totally plan on coming back when I'm in the area again. Support small biz y'all!
google avatar

Rose H.

Yelp
love a good local coffee shop in the mission! interior is cute & service is great :) they have espresso ice cubes here & i was so curious the barista popped a cube in my matcha latte just so i could give it a try! i prefer their matcha lattes hot over iced! would be a true 4/5 for the drink itself but i had to give it a bump cause of the service & ambiance p.s: they usually have little pastry samples in the morning!
google avatar

Trisha T.

Yelp
Is it weird that this place combined my go-to breakfast combo: coffee and banana and turned it into an amazing drink called the Thai Breakfast?! You must try this unique and delicious drink next time you're in the Mission. Their standard drinks are also great... and they source pastries from amazing local bakers near the Mission. Love that I get to call this gem my neighborhood cafe!

Pachirisu T.

Yelp
This place is a gem. Freshly roasted coffee, combined with home made pastries. They have a variety of roasted coffee beans you can buy as well, roasted right there in their coffee shop. It does not get better than this.
google avatar

Laura H.

Yelp
My new favorite neighborhood coffeeshop. The iced coffee here is probably the best in the city (at least from what I've tried), and they even make the ice cubes out of coffee, so they don't dilute your drink as they melt. It's a struggle not to buy a coffee here every day. I always get my coffee to-go, but for those who want to sit for a bit, there are a few tables outside, but no indoor seating (at least for now).

Kevin S.

Yelp
This is my regular coffee stop on the way to work, and love everything about this place. I usually grab things to go so if you're looking to hunker down and work for a few hours you might have a difficult time in this small space (but still doable). The coffee here is great and I usually get an Americano or iced coffee served with a smile! But the real stars of CoffeeShop are the baked goods. The baker needs to be arrested because their muffins, breads and other tasty treats are so good THEY ARE CRIMINAL!!!! Chocolate croissant - Delicious Almond croissant - Marzipan exploding in my mouth Pistachio croissant - Like a sweet piece of heaven Meyer lemon curd cruffin - HOW IS THIS LEGAL!? Stop by for a coffee, but do yourself a favor and get a special treat too!
google avatar

Ben S.

Yelp
Tried CoffeeShop on January 26 with my work team. The service was good, very attentive with our large order. The dirty chai and the Iced Matcha were particularly good. I needed a receipt for work reimbursement so I contacted the establishment. Wilson went through his record and found the receipt I needed. Greatly appreciate his effort.
google avatar

Jhia L.

Yelp
It's a cozy spot with lots of locals/regulars. They are friendly and offer coffee ordering explanations and the ambiance is very easy, relaxing, and warm. I enjoyed my coffee and can't wait to come back!

Roger S.

Yelp
A gentrified coffee shop that doesn't care about the local community it's gentrifying. We ordered coffee and sat at the bar where there were stools, and were trying to organize some personal papers. We were not speaking to any other customers and were keeping to ourselves. The manager, I guess, told us to straight up leave since the papers we were organizing were political. The papers were plain democratic voter guides for the upcoming city election. There nothing scary about them. We were not telling customers who to vote for, or leaving the guides there. We were just going to use the tabletop for a few minutes to organize them. She said "she doesn't want any of that here". I personally don't like apolitical, gentrified coffee shops, and there are definitely so many better ones in the community that care about the community and want to be involved with the community. So I don't recommend coming here.
google avatar

Waverley H.

Yelp
SUPER cute and cozy coffee shop close to Potrero, and less than a 3 minute drive away from ZSFG for any healthcare workers craving a quick treat. Despite other reviews to the contrary, we found parking easily around the corner. There are a few seats along the indoor bar and outdoor tables, but most get their coffee and pastries (toasted) to go. We asked for their most popular pastry and got two raspberry cruffins, which were yummy if not a little messy from the jam.
google avatar

Yelp
cool vibe , which i was unfortunately sad to see that the employees weren't very friendly or informative about their coffees and what its about . it's either you know what you want or don't which is cool ? but not when you are exploring new places especially with the foot traffic this area gets you would expect them to be more welcoming. when its something like this i avoid going but the coffee quality would be reasons why people would come back .
google avatar

Eleni C.

Yelp
Sweet little shop. Just one girl working busily on a Sunday morning, but even with a line outside it moved quickly. Everyone in my party just got plain coffee, it tasted okay (quite honestly it was weak. Starbucks is bolder and more flavorful, and there were tons of grounds throughout and sitting at the bottom of my cup. Not stoked on that $5 cup). But I could see they were roasting beans in the shop!! If you're into specialty blends and that kinda thing, there's likely more to explore there that I didn't. The real star here were the pastries!! The most delicious, soft, and moist (sorry) banana nut bread I've ever had - and a croissant that flaked apart like it belonged in Paris. The woman cut us the banana bread from the middle of a fresh loaf, only weird thing was that the cutting board must have been dirty because the bottom of it tasted like onion.... So that was off putting. All in all, charming neighborhood spot with some yummy goodies for a weekend morning and nice seating outside to sit and socialize.

Yelp
I don't write reviews typically, but I was so blown away by the awesome customer service here on my last visit. The place is called the Coffee Shop and well, it has just about the best coffee in town. The Mocha is out of this world. So be sure to tell them Joe sent you in for the joe and a cookie That's the main reason I go here-- for the baked goods-- which are absolute perfection! The best croissants and best cookies this side of Paris. Now I don't wanna sing their praises too highly as they'll have a line out the door (like that overpriced bakery down the street). But for the owner and the baker, I would like to see that line, as they really deserve it. It's that good! And the customer service is unmatched! So hey, I guess I'll be seeing you in line someday soon!
google avatar

Jeanette S.

Yelp
I had a been a fan of coffeeshop I think since back from 2016 or so when I first discovered them and their Sherpa coffee! I didn't realize they opened another shop in the Mission, so I came to check them out. I think it's even the same owner who I remember from years ago! I also ordered a hazelnut cookie which was delicious. I like that they helped toast it up so it was nice and melty as well!
google avatar

Chris W.

Yelp
Nobody can matcha their matcha! Lots of great cafes and coffee shops around this neighborhood but I'll definitely be back for matcha and to try their coffee!
google avatar

Olha I.

Yelp
CoffeeShop is the place where you want to go for your coffee, because they roast theirs coffee beans here, fresh baked pastry. Best Organic Matcha Latte without any added sugar - after trying your Matcha Latte here you won't go anywhere else! Also their Chocolate Amazeball ( it's kinda Keto Bomb - high in fat, low in sugar:) - is a Must Try! And their home baked Everything Croissant with Cream Cheese is best option for a quick breakfast or take it home and make Breakfast sandwich;) Thank you CoffeeShop for your hospitality and yummy goodies!

Mi P.

Yelp
Cortado was watery. Could have better flavor. Pastries looked good. Thanks. Nothing else to say
