The 17 Essential Restaurants in Columbia, Home of the University of Missouri

"As a year-round event, Columbia’s market brings fresh produce, breakfasts, natural candles, and more to the MU Health Care Pavilion once a week (twice a week in the summer). Locals come for a taste of their favorites, like Gina’s Vegan A Go Go, a food truck serving tacos, BLTs, and biscuits and gravy, all without any animal products. Mr. Murphy’s is where to get your stuffed-potato fix, be sure to grab coffee from Fretboard, and you’ll find baked goods throughout the market." - Chloe Konrad

I absolutely love everything about the Columbia Farmers Market. From the vibrant selection of fresh vegetables to the unique variety of mushrooms, every visit feels like a wholesome, refreshing experience. I brought home some amazing produce—and a mint plant that’s thriving beautifully in my little garden! Beyond the incredible produce, what truly makes this place special is the vibe. There’s a sense of calm, community, and connection that makes it feel like a mini getaway right in the heart of the city. Whether you’re there to shop, stroll, or just soak up the atmosphere, it’s an experience that leaves you feeling inspired and grounded. Highly recommend making this a regular stop—both for the soul and the pantry.

Beautiful fruits and vegetables! Honey, lavender, cheese and meat too. Live music and food trucks. A couple tables and chairs to sit at. A very nice way to spend Saturday morning.

CFM is one of the many reasons we love living in Columbia. This market is truly so special in every way. Local, plenty of parking, kid friendly, great resources and free to attend. We aim to go weekly, and it has absolutely been a game changer for our health, physically and spiritually! Shopping this way is so rewarding. We love getting to see familiar faces at our favorite stands, and eating locally and seasonally is so fun and delicious. We’ve learned so much from shopping at CFM every week. If you’re worried about cost, we’ve found that we end up spending about the same as we were at corporate grocery chains, but the food at CFM is so much tastier, produce lasts longer and we can really feel and see the difference in our health. Don’t get me wrong, it’s easy to rack up a bill depending on what you get, but there are definitely ways to make it doable and affordable. Plus, the investment in your health and the community is priceless. It’s really special seeing the community come out every weekend. Saturday mornings are the highlight of our week. If you haven’t been to CFM yet, don't wait! It will surely become one of your favorite things.

Drove 2 hrs to go to this farmers market! The best in Missouri I’ve been too. So many different options of produce, flowers, made to order food, and so much more. Don’t forget a bag to carry all the amazing stuff you are going to buy!

The farmers market is an awesome place to go for not only fresh veggies and produce but also a really great selection of hot food. I do miss the biscuit stand and I don't mean Ozark mountain biscuit. There was a couple that made specialty biscuits but I haven't seen them for a while but there's still tons of great food and music and lots of fun stuff for the whole family to do. And the whole park and playground is really awesome. Make sure you take a walk through the garden while you're there.

The Columbia Farmers Market is such a wonderful place to get all sorts of fresh, delicious produce, flowers, meat and more. Vendors from all of central missouri show up to sell their products. The market is now under a pavilion with a roof and large fans. There is a playground for kids along with a large community garden. They host classes and soon with an expansion they will have a building for rentals/parties. It’s a lively place on Saturday mornings.

Google
Open almost all year round every Saturdays from 8am til noon, this place has a lot to offer: from local farm grown veggies/fruit, fresh baked goods, mushrooms, honey, farm eggs ($4-6/dozen), home made food, food truck, hot/cold drinks, meat & other stuff (candles, knives, jewelry, plants). They have pumpkins &mums for fall, watermelon/peaches/corn during summer that I personally like. The pavillion has clean bathrooms, they have drinking water in coolers, they accept cash/cards and has cash coins, its next to a playground and has separate shelter for kids&families to hangout. There’s also live music most of the time.

Yelp
While visiting a friend in Columbia she made sure that we were up early to check out the Columbia Farmers Market, which sets up shop every Saturday for several hours in a parking lot. While I am not going to get into specifics as far as what types of produce and other items were available, I will say that they had the usual items like produce, flowers, baked goods, meats, etc all at great prices and best of all of the items were local. I even managed to find several items to bring back to Saint Louis! All of the vendors were friendly, and some even took credit card however for those without cash you can stop by the ATM if needed. If in Columbia on a Saturday morning I highly recommend making a stop!

Yelp
Who: Local farmers in their overalls, hippies, kids running around and the moms who chase them, college students, and maybe even a bluegrass band. What: Fruits, vegetables, plants, herbs, jams, preserves, eggs, cheese, fresh cut flowers, pastas, Uprise Bakery breads, Missouri Legacy beef, and more all grown/raised/baked with love within a 55 mile radius of that very spot. Where: Behind the ARC on the corner of Ash and Clinkscales. Lots of parking, folks. When: Saturday mornings from 8 a.m. to noon. Why: Because you love waking up to the smell of organic breakfast burritos and you deserve a Saturday morning slice of banana bread. Because you bought that canvas tote bag and by golly you want to fill it up. Because you LOVE fresh basil and some Yelper named Chelsea B. said they have the best blackberries she has EVER tasted and you want to try them, too. Because it really is fresh and local, it isn't shipped in on a diesel-fueled truck from Chile, these are nice people doing right by the world, and you want to support it. Well go you.

Yelp
Traveling through Columbia we stopped at the most wonderful farmers market! It was such a welcome spot. They had a violinist who brought so much charm we didn't want to leave! This is a must stop! Excellent variety of breads, fruits, eggs and vegetables! Don't miss the homemade breakfast burritos!

Yelp
Nice little market with a lot of pretty good looking produce and not a lot of junky kitschy junkiness. There's a guy who will sharpen your kitchen knives - or your shovel. Whatever you need. Most of the produce looked pretty good. Prices were generally highish but not USUALLY (with a few exceptions) too high. I would have liked to see more handcrafted items - maybe this farmer's market doesn't allow that. I was really really happy to find several vendors with Thai ingredients as we arrived in MO too late for me to plant a garden. Yay, Holy Basil!

Yelp
Why can't we have a farmers market like this in St. Louis where more than 3 million people live!?? The closest we have is Tower Grove but I think there are still more vendors at Columbia and the prices don't compare. I know I'm not the only one that can't afford a $6 head of lettuce or a $3 tomato. I'm not interested in a farmers market for the wealthy. Columbia Farmers Market is varied, affordable, friendly, and AWESOME!

Yelp
Year-round, new building opening soon! Fantastic market that actually has lots of produce, meat, cheese (vs. just prepared food and crafts, although it has some of that, too). And the surrounding Ag Park will be great once they finish building it. We mostly go to the Saturday morning market. Lots of great options--some certified organic (Salad Garden, Happy Hollow, Share Life), some smaller outfits that aren't certified but care about following organic practices (Bellair Farm, Sage Garden, Mighty Acorn, Goatsbeard goat cheese, Manitou Farm, et al.), all delicious. And if you run out of produce at home, you can go to Main Squeeze to have dishes with ingredients from many of these same vendors :)

Yelp
Open Saturday mornings and Monday and Wednesday early evenings, this is a great source for inexpensive local produce, meat, baked goods, etc. It's particularly wonderful for sweet corn and peaches, two summer produce items that are best when they're only a day or two old. It's also a good source for plants in the early season, if you're a gardener.

Yelp
Word on the streets is the fine citizens of CoMo are working on getting a permanent structure for their market. For a smaller, middle Missouri town, Columbia rocks. The CoMo market (unlike its big sister, Soulard Market in STL) has actual guidelines for growers who want to sell their produce in the market. This has fostered a wonderful grassroots collective of local farmers who are also food activists who don't utilize chemical pesticides. The market offers a variety of items including potted flowers, baked goods, exotic produce and those good ol' stand bys we Missourians can identify. Just be sure to wear your walkin' shoes because it can get a little muddy, and bring your reusable bags! Keep fighting for that permanent structure, CoMo! I'm rootin' for you!

Yelp
This is a great little farmers market. I went every Saturday. Baked goods, fruits, veggies, jams, honey, meat, eggs, mushrooms, etc They have a lot for a smaller venue. I love grabbing a breakfast burrito while I shop.

Yelp
This great farmer's market is open every Saturday throughout the summer. The produce is fantastic, and there are also sellers of other items, like focaccia bread, jellies, flowers, etc. A great place to stop if you'll be in town.
