I visited a long-established Cơm Tấm restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City for the first time. The restaurant is featured in the Michelin guide, so I went there with high expectations. The restaurant had a spacious area with about 40 seats, but it was very crowded even when I visited around 1:30 PM.
You can order in Vietnamese, a little English, and by pointing and using gestures. There are only six basic set menus, so it's easy to order.
The food arrived in two minutes after I ordered. It's very speedy. The taste of the Cơm Tấm was characterized by its sweet sauce. The pork was very large and quite substantial, which might be too much for some women.
The restaurant lacks a sense of cleanliness in appearance. During busy times, it's common to find trash on the floor, and there's a slight smell of food waste. Some customers were smoking while walking. However, this is a common sight in long-established local restaurants, so if you've visited Vietnam several times, it shouldn't be a problem. Japanese people visiting for the first time might experience a bit of culture shock.
If you want to eat a lot of Cơm Tấm cheaply, I think Cơm Tấm enthusiasts will find it worth repeating!
