"Our Favorite Dishes: Com Tam (Broken Rice) Plain and simple, Com Tam Thuan Kieu’s broken rice platter is the best value in Little Saigon. Located in a strip mall right on Bolsa Ave., this low-key spot doesn’t have the big crowds or high energy of some of the surrounding restaurants, and that’s exactly what we like about it. This is the kind of place you come to after a long day, sit in blissful silence, and eat an $13.50 platter of broken rice (fractured rice grains) topped with seven different items that range from grilled pork to egg rolls to tofu shrimp paste. But perhaps the best thing about a meal at Com Tam is the fact you’ll have leftovers tomorrow. Cash only." - brant cox

Google
I had broken rice/vermicelli with 10 dishes. The grilled pork, julienne pork, and steamed eggcake were tasty (7/10), while the rest were just average. The prices were reasonable, service was quick, and the restaurant was clean.

Google
Service was fast, friendly, and food was delicious!! Portions were large and affordable. Lunch time wasn’t busy at all and we were one of the few tables there.

Google
We ordered Pork Grilled Com Tam and Shrimp Tofu & Shrimp Paste Com Tam. The price is decent and portion is huge.

Yo!!!!! Can I just say this place have the best com tam I ever had in my entire life until now!!! Their enormous portions was too great for the price and their nuoc mam compliments the rice so so well. They even give you not those ordinary soup but the soup bone that mama or gma cooks back home. I’ve been to their other location, but this one was better when it comes to service and food. My apologies that I forgot my server name but he was the chubby one(I’m not discriminating, I’m chubby myself) was amazing!!! Hands down he was the best Vietnamese server I’d met. Until next time!! Peace

No frills family owned com tam restaurant. So delicious and cheap! The flavors are extremely rich.

Google
The appetizers were ok-ish. We had “nem nuong cuon” and “chao tom cuon”. They basically were the same as what you got from the “com tam”, but wrapped in a rice paper. The sauce tasted generic. For main dishes, we had “bun cha Ha Noi” and “10 item com tam”. Bun cha was not 100% authentic, but it was still very delicious. The sauce was a bit salty for me. It had a good portion of herbs. Com tam was decent. Every item was big, enough for 2 people to try everything. However, there wasn’t anything special about them. Most items tasted good, but ~7/10 at best. Overall, it’s hard to beat the price to portion ratio here. I suggest you skip the appetizers if you think about going big for the main dish.

My husband came here by himself on a Saturday afternoon and dined in. He got the com tam 10 mon ($20.65) which he said was phenomenal. The portion size was also really big so he had food coma afterwards. We recently stopped by on a Friday afternoon and ordered banh hoi 10 mon ($30.44) to-go and drove 1 hour home before we got to eat it. The food was surprisingly still warm enough to eat but the egg roll was soggy. The banh hoi cost $10 more which was not worth it since it didn't taste super fresh or hand-made. My husband said the portion size was smaller too. They didn't give enough nuoc mam so we added our own. However, they did give a good amount of veggies though. The meat, fish, & shrimp were good but my favorite was the egg cake. The eggroll and Nem Nuong log were just okay. Lesson Learned: Only dine in at this restaurant.

Hands down my go-to place for com tam. This place gives you a lot of food for the money and it is always tasty and quick! Years later, I still come back for the same reasons.

Yelp
Com Tam Thuan Kieu is a little Vietnamese gem. The atmosphere is welcoming, but the real star here is the food. The portion sizes are huge! Their combo meals are perfect for sharing, or you can save some for leftovers--they're just as good the next day. The rice dishes (com tam) come with a flavorful side soup that complements the meal beautifully - reminds me of childhood. Every bite tastes authentic, with rich Vietnamese flavors. Whether you're a fan of hearty soups, savory rice dishes, or fresh spring rolls, this place delivers on all fronts. If you're craving real Vietnamese food with generous portions, this is the spot.

Tony D.

Yelp
I come here often to get their egg cake to go. It's the best quality and quantity for the price compare to other com tam places.

Michelle N.

Yelp
Don't get intimated by how empty the restaurant is lol! The portions are ginormous for $25-$30, you can split between 2 people. Everything is pretty good, even though the shrimp cake could be crispier. But this is def top 3 for com tam in garden grove for me.

Chloe D.

Yelp
First time here, I really like the egg cake and tofu skin, the rice was really good, service is great

Julia V.

Yelp
"I've been a regular here for over 10 years. The marinade is a bit different from Westminster, and the meats and veggies were a little less flavorful, in my opinion." But the service here is a little bit nicer than Westminster!

Armando L.

Yelp
One of my favorite places for Vietnamese broken rice dishes! The menu has a large variety. You can make your broken rice plate customizable with the type of meats and sides. The staff is very friendly and you'll be seated right away if you decide to dine in. Plenty of seating and it's always clean. There's an option for take out as well. The prices are very reasonable for their quality and big portions. I would highly recommend. You won't be disappointed!

Theresa T.

Yelp
Coming from a Vietnamese, this place is THE BEST com tam in Orange County... hands down. I like to try com tam at different places but always come back to this place. I've been eating here since their OG location which was literally a few restaurants down from where it is now. Used to come here after every Sunday mass with my family. Their rice, meat selection, fish sauce, spring rolls, everything is sooo delicious! Not to mention took the huge portions they give you! Honestly their com tam incomparable imo. Try this place out and I know you'll also love the food. This place needs more love! I'm sad to see this place not as crowded as it used to be at its original location. I hope they stay in business because they're the best in town.

Kristy V.

Yelp
Hands down best Com Tam I've ever had! This was my first real time trying this place/ having com tam, it was AMAZING. I loved the ability to choose different items, along with the pickled veggies, sauce and soup for variety! Everything tasted sooo good and the items came out glistening and so beautiful highly recommend! Servers are super sweet too, I love sitting next to the window seeing cars pass when I eat as well :-) 10/10 stars!

Zhi Y.

Yelp
This place is the hidden gem you've been searching for! The food is top-notch, and the prices are incredibly affordable. The variety of items you get is impressive, making every visit a delightful experience. Truly amazing!

Hannah N.

Yelp
Authentic Vietnamese rice dishes. Enough said. They have every option of rice dish you might want to try including combos. Com tam means broken rice, a Vietnamese specialty. I recommend the pork chops with egg. Very filling and satisfying. Expect to wait on the weekends but that's true for any food place in this area. We got our food to go and it was still good by the time we got home.

Brenda S.

Yelp
When I am in California, I always go and eat broken rice at this location. Their meat is soft delicious and completely shareable. For the price under $30 for 3 people, that's a steal in California. Also, the Vietnamese coffee is delicious too

Katie P.

Yelp
I've written about this place before so I'll keep it short :) Hands down my favorite com tam restaurant. Authentic. Fresh ingredients. Delicious. What more can you ask for? Something about this place always feels like home. I always get the thit nuong (grilled pork) and cha (egg cake). This dish never disappoints! If you haven't had com tam before start with this :)

Danny N.

Yelp
This is a good place if you're craving com tam. I used to come here as a kid. The food is good and comes out quick. If you love com tam, then this is the place to get it! Lots of parking in the plaza!

Kurtis C.

Yelp
After eating shit on my bike (bicycle) today which landed me in the hospital with a brace and sling, I needed something to heal my soul at the very least. My wife and I said screw the diet today and she drove my battered ass to Com Tam Thuan Kieu. We shared their absolute unit of a combo, which was 10 items! It also came with two soups and a heaping plate of rice, along with plates to share. It had it all: egg roll, charbroiled pork, lap cheong/xuong, tofu wrapped shrimp cake, baked egg quiche, grilled shrimp, grilled fish (surprisingly good!), fried shrimp cake, julienned pork, and a grilled pork sausage. All of it was nothing short of delicious. Initially I was worried that it wouldn't be enough rice for the both of us since I practically inhale rice when you put it in front of me, but once the meal was nearly done, I realized that it was the perfect amount of food. Well, actually my wife couldn't really finish her share, so I ended up eating the rest like usual which is a pretty good problem to have. The older gentleman who was serving us was friendly and nice too. He and my wife shared a laugh because apparently he was trying to talk to me and I just stared at him blankly since I don't understand Vietnamese haha. I do know my foods in Viet though ;) But you know what's a 1 star meal that I've eaten twice in the last 2 weeks? The ground. 0/10 would not eat the asphalt or dirt again. But here? For $25 for 2 people in *this* economy? You bet your ass I'm coming back (even tho I've been to the other locations).

Mike L.

Yelp
Just happened to drive by the strip mall where this place resides. Only a few other patrons so there were plenty of tables available. Took a look at their extensive menu and decided on their 10 item plate. It was overkill for me as I couldn't finish it all. Items were decent and I definitely enjoyed the variety. Loved the soup, which helped break up my meat overload. Would consider coming back again.

Kayla H.

Yelp
Com Tam Thuan Kieu is a staple in the Garden Grove/Westminster area. My family loves this spot and they're my go-to for com tam because the portions are huge and the flavors are always on point. I love com tam because there's a variety of meats you can eat. They give you plenty of nuoc mam and soup to pair with the com tam / broken rice. Service is decent! They mainly speak Vietnamese so it would be best to go with someone Viet or point at what you want. The restaurant is huge so there should be plenty of seating, I've never waited here. I would highly recommend checking them out.

Dee H.

Yelp
Mom and pop's feel. Bathroom available. Great portions. We shared our plates and were full. Meat was seasoned and moist.

Eva T.

Yelp
me and my boyfriend went during lunch and we order one big plate to share and we both are so full! the food came out really fast and it was very authentic!

Sean M.

Yelp
Best broken rice I've ever had. I should be able to finish the whole plate myself but the portion was just about right for two people to share. Not enough rice for me but the 10 items on the plate made up for it. This set the bar for broken rice for me and all the broken rice on the west side are just scam and trash compared to this. The drinks were good but too much ice. The prices were reasonable and the service was fast, but we were also the only customers there during that time.

Yelp

Yelp
One of the good Com Tam places that my husband and I really enjoy eating at. I remember the first time we came here we ordered their Com Tam 10 piece combo each and it was just way too much food LOL. So every time we come here we always just share their Com Tam 10 piece and it's just the right amount of food for us...plus it's always better sharing ;) Located in a small parking lot, CTTK takes credit card as well but I think there is a minimum payment. It's never been really packed here every time we come but maybe because we always come during a week night lol. Their Com Tam 10 piece is a bit more expensive now from when we first came here...it comes out to be $20 which is a little more than other places I have been to. All in all, their 10 piece comes with a variety of different sides and we love it! So much food! Though it's a bit pricey, we will be back!

Janette N.

Yelp
Not the cleanest restaurant, but also not the cleanest plaza. I always get the special, 7 side combo with grilled pork. The plate is huge and is big enough to fill up two girls. They provide fish sauce and bone broth on the side! We tried the grilled chicken platter this time which was flavorful, however, the chicken portion was extremely small. Com tam thuan kieu is the og of com tam in little saigon, but sadly it doesn't hit the same as before. Still solid just not amazing as they are very skimpy on protein these days

Austin H.

Yelp
At its core, "com tam" is a beloved staple in Vietnamese cusine, featuring fragrant broken rice grains that provide a unique texture compared to traditional rice. The grains are fluffy yet distinct, creating a perfect canvas for various flavorful accompaniments. My favorite variation is "Com tam tau hu ky," The rice paired with rolls made from bean curd skin make a delicious combination. They are wrapped around a savory filling, often a mixture of minced pork, mushrooms, and other seasonings. The rolls are then deep-fried until golden and crispy. The result is a delightful contrast of crunchy exterior and tender, flavorful interior. Com Tam Thuan Kieu makes my favorite dish perfectly, at a reasonable price. However, their service leaves more to be desired. If they were more friendly and inviting it'd definitely be 5 stars.

Yelp
I recently had an unpleasant experience here that I feel compelled to share. I went to pick up my food order However, upon entering the establishment, I was met with an unwelcoming atmosphere. The workers behind the counter seemed disinterested and downright rude. As I approached to collect my order, instead of a warm greeting, I was met with stares that made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. It was as if I was intruding on their personal space by simply being there to pick up my food. To make matters worse, when I politely asked about the status of my order, the worker responded with an attitude, as if I was inconveniencing them by seeking information about my meal. Their tone was dismissive, and their lack of professionalism was truly disappointing. As if that wasn't enough, I caught them whispering amongst themselves, casting judgmental glances in my direction. Overall, my experience at here was marred by the rude behavior of the staff. It's a shame because the food might have been good, but the disrespectful treatment I received overshadowed any potential enjoyment I could have had. I will certainly never come back to this establishment, and I would caution others to do the same.

Tiffany H.

Yelp
**Take out review** Called in before hand and placed an order for 3 plates. It was ready by the time I got there. Extra bowl of rice was $3. Everything was nicely packed and quite tasty. My favorite is the thit nuong, bi, steamed egg cake. This place is my go to for quick and easy meal.

Stephanie Y.

Yelp
First time trying this place and it was amazing. The portions are big and not to mention the flavors are amazing. I ordered a #8 and it did not disappoint. I went in with a big group of people and the restaurant was very spacious and accommodated us very well. Will definitely go back!

Brenda L.

Yelp
The good: I tried bún chả Hà Nội and combo #3 (tên meat combo?). My daughter enjoyed the side soup that came with the com tam platter. The food came out quickly. I liked the small broken rice. There was plenty of tables to choose from and workers were friendly. I liked how many variations and combos of meat you could choose from. The vegetables for the bún chả were fresh. I enjoyed the round meat patty in the bun Cha the most. The bad: It was so warm inside. It felt like the heater was on even though it's May and it was in the 60s outside. There wasn't enough fish sauce for the rice plate. The Laos sausage was like a Chinese sausage and felt random. The tofu skin on the tau hu ky was soggy and not crispy. The thịt nướng was okay but didn't have as good of a charred grill flavor and was a little heavier in the nuoc mam flavor (a bit too salty, same with the shrimp). The shrimp didn't have a nice fresh shrimp "crunch" (unsure what to call that texture) and was smallish. This was subpar to my usual Com Tam Thien Huong in norcal. The baby high chairs could use cleaning. The interesting: They have two locations.

Hien N.

Yelp
Great portion, authentic flavors, and good customer service! Place also looks clean! :) definitely worth a try while in OC!

Nichole P.

Yelp
This place has gotten better over the years. We order this place to go about once a month. It's about $15 for a 4 entree plate. Price went up but I mean, everything went up so no surprise. Com Tam is such a comfort food for me and this does hit the spot for me.

Clarissa T.

Yelp
My family and I have been getting food from here for the past couple years. And it's always so delicious . We always go here for Cơm tấm (broken rice) or Bún Tôm Thịt Nướng Chả Giò (cold noodles with shrimp, meat, and egg roll) and to top it off we almost always get the Xương xáo nước dừa (grass jelly in coconut milk). It's always so good and filling! Honestly whenever I'm craving com tam or that type of food, I'd 100% recommend this place. The portion sizes are great for the price (at lease pre pandemic, I haven't really been here since the middle of the pandemic). The food is always great, you get a soup along with your meal too. I'm always satisfied after I'm craving it! I wanted to put more pictures but I realized I didn't take any haha.

Byron C.

Yelp
Came at the end of a hot day, nobody inside which is weird given how popular this place supposedly is on Yelp. Ordered the #2 or #3, forgot, since it's different than other broken rice places, $18 but you get a GINORMOUS amount of food. Everything was fine from a non-vietnamese perspective but actually - some of the meats provided were not very flavorful, not that I think it was the cook's fault - just not as good as standard grilled meat options that vietnamese places have. So probably no need to get the super big $18 item - just thought I should try it since I can go anywhere else and get normal com tam. I imagine there's competition for solid com tam in GG/Westminster so I'm assuming it's the case that this is place is good but the only com tam that blew my mind was a chateau like vietnamese place that I don't think rules allow me to say directly ;)

Nancy T.

Yelp
First time here and even though I think broken rice plates are hard to miss, but this place was pretty good! I really liked the tàu hũ ky (shrimp cake) and the grilled pork was flavorful and not dry. My only thing was that some of the pieces of grilled pork were way too fatty. Soup on the side was good and not too salty and I approve of the egg rolls if you like to order those as apps! Overall it's a very clean and fairly spacious restaurant. The servers and owners were very friendly. I would definitely come back to eat here or even get it for takeout as the plates are pretty hefty!

Britney J.

Yelp
Yo!!!!! Can I just say this place has the best com tam ever had in my entire life until now!!! Their enormous portion was too great for the price and their nuoc mam compliments the price so well. They even give you not those ordinary soup but the soup bone that mama or mama cooks back home. I've been to their other location, but this one was better when it came to service and food. My apologies that I forgot my server name but he was the chubby one (l'm not discriminating, I'm chubby myself) was amazing!!! Hands down he was the best Vietnamese server I'd met. Until next time!! Yelp
Has all possibilities of food choices. Service is great too. Normally order to go and bring and one whole portion feed 2 people just fine. You can prob feed 3.

Anne L.

Yelp
Yes. It's about $20 a plate now. But I loved their 10 item plate. It literally lasted me 4 meals.. the flavor if everything was great. The service to pick up my to go order was good... this is now my go to spot for com Tam. And the little soup they give you is good too. It's nice to see a place that does not skimp for the price increase following pandemic. Hurray.

Sandra L.

Yelp
Great portions and decent prices! I used to go to their other location off of Bolsa, but recent reviews there made me reconsider and I decided to try this location. I ordered the 7 items choice A broken rice platter to go and it was ready within a minute after I ordered and paid. The food was not piping hot because the 7 items were already made ahead of time, which I don't mind because it is pretty typical of broken rice places. The only thing that was hot was the rice and soup. I did toast the tofu skin fish cake after I got home so that it would crisp up before eating. Overall, my hubby and I really enjoyed the food. Everything tasted really good except for the nem nuong (Vietnamese grilled pork sausage), which had a slightly weird taste to it. This was plenty of food to feed the two of us with leftovers for both of our lunches the next day. This will be our new go to place for com tam (broken rice) from now on!

Elliot C.

Yelp
Very yummy cơm tấm sườn bì chả lập xưởng. We come here whenever we want cơm tấm in the week days. Got our food almost right away after we ordered. Definitely recommend

Cindy T.

Yelp
Food is delicious and portion sizes are quite large and reasonable priced! Their individual protein (like the nem) items could be a little more flavorful, but the egg loaf and pork are always delicious. For the bun cha Ha Noi, the meatball was a bit dry, but overall the meal was delicious. Quick service as well and a nice ambiance.

Kim N.

Yelp
If you want a bang for your buck, this place definitely has generous portions. The food is great for the price and one plate is enough for two people. The meal feels like home and definitely a comfort food. They also give you a complimentary little soup on the side with pork spare ribs. Overall, service is good, they're quick and efficient, and great for take out or a quick meal.

Cindy P.

Yelp
I got the com tam bi cha thit nuong, and it comes with a egg cake. I really liked the texture of the rice here and the marinade of the meat was a littler more sweeter than I'd like, but it was still very enjoyable. They give a good portion of meat and rice. I wasn't a big fan of the fish sauce. They also give a bowl of soup, and that was a good palette cleanser. I would come back; the service was good and fast, and convenient to me!

Trung N.

Yelp
The pandemic happened and my family sought out things we never thought we'd crave: com tam. This place is OG. If you've never had com tam before, it's just broken rice with plenty of toppings - you can top it with whatever your heart desires. I personally like a com tam with thịt nướng, nem nướng, and tàu hủ ky (grilled pork, pork sausage, crispy shrimp cake). It's a build as you go process - a standard plate will cost you around $9 bucks and you can pick and choose what you want with your rice. I love it. You do as you please. My mom likes the grilled shrimp situation (tôm nướng) and everyone likes the tàu hủ ky (crispy shrimp cake). Other family favorites include: -bi: julienne pork with vermicelli -chả giò: egg rolls -chả trứng hấp: ground pork, shrimp, eggs, glass noodles and wood ear mushrooms - resembles a quiche There are other grilled meats you can add as well. What I liked about this place was that they didn't skimp out on the tàu hủ ky because other places give you a teeny tiny dry piece. Here, it's big fat and hearty. Study the menu - know what you want and place an order to go.

Thao T.

Yelp
Portions were big with bold flavors.:: located in a pretty busy parking lot..:: rice plates came with lots of toppings..: recommend the special 7 topping for ice plate

Lila N.

Yelp
Decent com tam, fair prices, no frills. The first three items (7-10 item combo) are massive and definitely shareable between 2 people. I like the simpler orders (com tam thit nuong etc) Would return for com tam fix!

Ryong C.

Yelp
It's ok, The first time I tried a Vietnamese restaurant (not pho) I didn't know what to choose, but I chose the most expensive one (I think the most expensive one is the best one). The soup made with bones was a little salty, but delicious. Thai tea is great.

Srey Y.

Yelp
The broken rice plate here is really good and has a varietal meat selection on one big order. However, the server doesn't really speak English so you better be thorough and clear on what you want. Otherwise you won't be getting what you want or in our case nothing at all - haha! The nem nuong was pretty good as well with some really homemade sauce. I would go back for some broken rice plates with a big party for sure.

Jeni N.

Yelp
How tf you gonna charge me $20 a plate & you only give me 4 pieces of meat??? Matter of fact it's 4 pieces of fucken bones. On top of all that, when i call to place an order your bitch ass staff gave me attitude on the phone too. Man fuck y'all i will never eat here again, i hope your business burns to the ground.

Seno C.

Yelp
First time and won't be the last time. Specialized in broken rice dishes. All proteins / meats are very flavorful. You can choose your own proteins on top of the broken rice or rice vermicelli. Mix them with the fish sauce and sambal oelek; so delicious. Clean, friendly, efficient and fast service. Glad to drop by.

Alexa T.

Yelp
This place hit the spot! After eating other kinds of Vietnamese food, my family and I were craving rice. We finally got a chance to get com tam (broken rice). We ordered a #5, #11, and #12. They came with some soup and a bowl of fish sauce.

Jackie L.

Yelp
Ordered to go from this place because com tam thien hào is closed on Tuesdays. I ordered com tam with thit nuong, shrimp cake, egg cake, & Lạp xưởng. First off, they give you a lot of rice which is great. But the thit nuong was hard and chewy, the Lạp xưởng was hard as a rock and the fish cake was salty but the egg cake was decent. The fish sauce was sooo salty! I had to add lime to fix it. Everything was just off and wasn't good overall. I'm sticking to my OG spot.
