Mexico City-inspired taqueria with al pastor tacos & churros

"Housed in the Houston Farmers Market, Underbelly Hospitality’s newest ode to Mexico City offers juicy al pastor that’s best devoured in a taco with cilantro, onion, and a sliver of pineapple, or its gooey, cheesy costras. Other highlights not to be missed include the rich and tender cachete or beef cheek suadero, and the simple yet classic quesadilla. Don’t leave without dessert — the massive, spiral churro served with your choice of chilled cajeta or chocolate pairs perfectly with a hot coffee." - Brittany Britto Garley, Kayla Stewart
"Opening a taqueria inside a marketplace full of Mexican dry goods and produce could feel like putting a hat on a hat. But thankfully Comalito and Houston Farmers Market are both cool hats, so it works. The Mexico City-style taco spot serves a long list of suaderos, quesadillas, and crispy cheese-slathered tostadas dim sum-style in the back of the market. And the food tastes so good, it's worth doubling back through the market again to eat there again. Like most dim sum spots, ordering starts by numbering items on a double-sided menu and sliding it to the edge of the table for someone to grab. Then, after a brief wait, hot plates of arrachera and thin pineapple-laced pastor arrive almost immediately. Depending on what gets ordered and how much, fleets of little plates arrive with wonderful handmade tortillas filled with charred chicharron or bistek, or smothered in sauteed cheese and onions. Normally, grabbing behind a market often means a barebones dining situation. But Comalito is big, flashy, and not inexpensive, and the lack of direction might make you not sure who to talk to or how to get started. When you want more (which you will) you can just grab more paper, flag someone down, and start the entire dance all over again." - Chelsea Thomas
"Taking cues from Mexico City-style taquerias, Comalito—opened by the folks behind Underbelly Hospitality—serves up a long list of fantastic tacos, suaderos, quesadillas, crispy cheese-slathered tostadas, and so much more. Housed in a drab and sparse space behind The Heights Houston Farmers Market with yellow-gray interiors, concrete floors, and metal chairs, the menu does enough heavy lifting that it's worth being a little uncomfortable to taste this food. We loaded up on tender pastor tacos with thinly sliced juicy pineapple, and an alambra plate of slightly smoky adobo-marinated pork mixed with onions, bell pepper, and even more bacon. And the rice pudding with mango and coconut makes a perfect sweet pick-me-up before a couple of hours of browsing the adjacent produce. " - Gianni Greene, Chelsea Thomas
"Another new concept from Underbelly Hospitality, Comalito is a new taqueria at the Houston Farmers Market in the Heights. The Mexico City-inspired menu features al pastor tacos, bistec tostadas, and pork rib costras made on fresh corn tortillas." - Chelsea Thomas, Gianni Greene
