Best night ever!! My husband and I had an absolute blast last night, great show, amazing drinks, and a fantastic crowd of like-minded people. The vibe was relaxed, and the night just kept getting better and better! 🤣 The service was outstanding, and the cocktails were top-notch. It was the perfect way to wrap up our anniversary trip in NY. We can’t wait to come back and visit Comedy Cellar again!

Always a treat, great way yo end a bad day, tray depression or a great night out alone, with friends or strangers, all works! Love the place and always a great time! Wait in line, they will find a way to accommodate. Enjoy

What a great, fun experience. Visited NYC with my older brother who has never been and wanted to see a comedy show. We didn't have reservations but got to the standby line an hour before the show. Got our name on the list and luckily got tickets. Fantastic experience, so close to the stage, funny comics and just awesome!

A wonderful experience! We went to the 117 MacDougal Street location on a Saturday night (8:45 pm). I called about 3 or 4 weeks in advance for tickets. The gentleman who helped on the phone was awesome. Once we arrived, everyone on-site was helpful as well. Shout out to Scotty! While we were waiting, he was the crowd/line control, and answered all our questions - and was super fun. It is required that you seal your phones and smartwatches in a provided envelope. And the service inside left nothing to be desired. They were quick, pleasant, and did their very best to not interrupt the show.

Just flew in from California and went to a 9:30pm show on Thurs. Saw a wonderfully funny array of comedians. HILARIOUS! My whole group couldn't stop laughing. Cocktails were yummy. Service was attentive. Our seats had a great view and the venue felt very intimate. Admission fee and cocktail prices were reasonable. Will definitely come again when I visit New York.

Acts are great, definitely worth a visit, considering it's an iconic venue. First come, first serve. To be seated in the front rows, you need to line up outside around an hour earlier, half an hour earlier gets you decent seating, and back sections have no decent view. Seats are extremely tight and difficult to sit comfortably. No coat check is available.

I have never been to a comedy club/show before. I was in the 8:00 pm show in Village underground. We got front seats luckily. The original line up was good. The standouts to me were Sam Morill and K C Shornima. They both were funny as hell. Everything was going good and the night became fantastic when Shane Gillis and Craig Robinson came in as a surprise. Craig Robinson is absolutely incredible musician and comedian. The staff and everyone who helped maintain the atmosphere were friendly and nice. I highly recommend everyone to visit this place to have a good time!

Amazing night, Had a suprise drop in from Louis C.K., obviously he was hilarious but the other comedians were amazing too. Advise to buy tickets ahead of time, as we did the stand by and only barely got in, a lot of people disappointed. If you do go standby by remember to check in with the doormen BEFORE joining the queue, you must register your name!

We went to a show at 6 o'clock on a Saturday and had such a fun experience! The comedians we saw were hilarious and it was a great time. Definitely get tickets ahead of time! And if you don't, show up two hours prior to get your name on the waitlist. We did not do either and stood standby. Thankfully we got in, but only four people on standby got in. Everybody with tickets as well as whoever added their name to the waitlist two hours prior did get in but there was a long line of people waiting standby that did not get in. It's $25 for the show and it's a two item off the menu. I just got a Diet Coke and a water and that worked for my two item minimum. The servers don't come around a lot during the show as to not interrupt. They came once before the show began and once right before last call, so definitely order when you see them! It is extremely dark in there and they make you put your phones in a sealed bag so just beware of the darkness! I would definitely go back.

I attended the Fat Black Pussycat Holiday Show on December 23rd, while I was in New York for the holidays and it was one of my favorite experiences in the city. Nestled in the heart of the Village, it's super close to many bars and restaurants if you're looking to do something before or after a show. However, like any other comedy club, there is a two-drink minimum and they do have a food menu. Also know that when you check-in, (and you should make a reservation, though you may get lucky with walk-in) you are given a pouch to seal your phones away into, so just know that you WILL NOT be on your phones or have access until the show ends (1.5-2 hrs later), it's pretty great. We arrived a little before 11 p.m., which is when the show was set to start and ended up being in the front of the line. When we checked-in the young lady behind the podium asked us if we wanted to sit in the front, so we took the opportunity to do so! This was just my partner and I, so as you can expect we were picked on during the show, which was a fun and interactive touch! All the comics were hilarious and actually very well-known and huge comedians whom I had heard of before so that was really cool as well. Drinks are fairly priced, even if maybe a bit on the expensive side (but they load those suckers up) and tickets are dirt cheap. It was $25 a person for the holiday show, but it's usually even cheaper. If you're 21+, this should be a staple to any NYC trip. The history of the venue is strong and there's pictures everywhere of past comics who've performed there. A perfect date night.

Such a fun experience! I had been checking for online reservation for a special one comic show with no luck. Thankfully as I checked day of I got lucky and was able to reserve two tickets! As soon as we got to the venue we were provided a baggy for our phones and seated one table from the stage. It seems like if you're a reservation of 2 you're likely to be seated close to the stage. The front row can be a target for some crowd work just in case you're not looking to be involved. As everyone mentioned, a 2 drink min but there are quite a few options and food can also count toward the minimum. Would absolutely come back for more of the traditional comedy lineups but felt lucky to see a comic I'm a fan of in a quaint venue.

This is without a doubt the greatest comedy clubs in the world. The talent they bring in here everyday can't be matched. Every single comedian that performs here is outstanding. If you are a fan of comedy, this place is a must visit when you're in NYC. Do not leave without getting tickets to a show.

Ok, when they asked if I wanted to sit up front, I didn't think it'd be this close. Awesome time and got to know some of the comedians a bit too well. Note to self don't where a hipster hat and sit in the front row...especially if it's the only thing remotely hip about you.

This was a fun place to hear some comedians. Some funny, some not so funny. There is a two drink minimum so just be aware of that. You can also order food here if you wish but not mandatory. I would suggest making a reservation ahead of time. They tried to put us in the front row but one person doesn't like being front and center and also one had a broken arm so it would have been very tight. There's usually a cover as well. It's well worth it - the evening is fun to go and spend some time with friends and enjoy some laughs!

I finally made it to the Comedy Cellar!! We weren't able to get reservations ahead of time so we waited in line for standby tickets. There were nine people ahead of us but we were able to get in! We had someone in our group grab Joe's Pizza down the street while we waited- definitely recommend. The show was amazing! You get to see multiple comedians and I love that their material was all widely different. There is a two drink minimum. Not sure how they seat everyone but even with standby tickets we were relatively close to the stage. A must see when you're in NYC!

Always an amazing time at the comedy cellar. Service is incredible- I have no idea how they do it in such a crowded space. Comics are without exception hilarious and the hosts are always incredible as well. I've never ordered food here but the drinks are what can be expected. Don't forget you have to meet a 2 item minimum and cannot use your phone!

We went in for a show on a Friday night, and managed to get in even without an online reservation. Although I would highly recommend buying your tix beforehand because they tend to sell out. I would also recommend folks to get there early to get the good tables. The seating was very cozy. The food however was horrible. There was a 2 items order minimum plus the cover charge. We tried their fries, beers and tiramisu. We loved the acts but hated the food unfortunately. I wish they can improve their food options and include a few healthy options for folks with dietary restrictions.

This was a wonderful time! Went as a group of 6 and if you don't want to sit in the very front then don't come as a pair of two. You will be interacted with if you do. When you arrive you check in at the stairs that lead down to the entrance. They mark you on the computer and then give you some plastic mailers to store your phones and smart devices in. Then you wait along the wall on the corner side of the building. There is a separate line for those who haven't already bought tickets as well. Both lines will get pretty long but they keep them organized. You will be seated next to the people you reserved tickets if you bought them as a group of tickets. The tables and seats are very close and the ceiling is low so prepare to be snug the whole time. The seats are wood and you might feel a bit sore after trying to stay turned in your seat for so long but the tickets are a good price for a 2 hour show. There is a two item minimum per person and you can get water for free. You pay by group/table though so if one person orders more, as long as the count is 2 per person you're good. Be prepared to pay with one card and just venmo your friends later. The food and drink was much more reasonably priced than I expected! It was also huge portions! This is a basket of fries after already eating some of the fries. Other people who got meal items got a true platter of food. We bought tickets weeks in advance so we didn't know who would be performing. I hadn't heard of any of the comedians but we had a great time and were laughing throughout. All in all would recommend to anyone local or visiting the area.

Very good spot for comedy. It's very cozy and intimate and perfect for a date night. They put your phones in a plastic bags, so no photos of the comedians. 2 drink minimum and they serve food too. I had a really fun night!

We came here for a show our 1st night in New York after dinner on our 15 year anniversary on Thursday August 29th. They've got 4 entrances to the building all with different names on the entrances. All had waiting lines for possible last minute tix, we just missed hopefully getting to see a legend, Dave Attell. Luckily for us when we were flying there and trying to book tix, Attell's show was listed as sold out, but we wisely bought tix for the 11:30 show. Glad we did, we would've never got in the building that night. The lineup was pretty good, Chris Redd from SNL closed the show. This place has a long history, so it was awesome I got to experience coming here. 1 thing I have to say I found really odd, was they wouldn't let people leave without you showing them your paid slip. It created a bit of confusion to the guests at the end. They must get stuffed a lot here to have to do that. I'd 100% come back.

Eh it was fine. booking was iffy and calling wasn't great, but in person dealing with reservations was best. The comics are okay. You can't have your cellphone without putting in sealed postage envelope because they're too busy pushing crowd work and want to record your mundane reactions for social media content.

One of our favorite NYC outings. We got lucky enough to get tickets for the MacDougal Street location. All the comedians were hilarious and the service was very attentive. Our seats were in the very back corner, but we could still mostly see. Can't wait to go back!

Just a few tips to enhance your Comedy Cellar experience: -Make a reservation! And if you don't get one, you'll probably be able to still get in with a short wait in line. -I don't think you really control it, but it's a comedy show. Use your brain and don't sit near the stage. They will try to talk to you and if you are anything like me that is a scene from a recurring nightmare. -Get some food with your drinks because they are STRONG. On our last trip, we couldn't get a res on a Saturday night but we put our name on the standby list for the 12pm, went to go find a bar and ended up finding ANOTHER COMEDY show. Obv a little more amateur but so fun. Like a little comedy appetizer. The comedy cellar show was so funny, so worth the wait, and so something I cannot wait to do again. Worth the money (you pay per ticket to get in and then there is a two drink minimum). Perfect little nyc night. Grab dinner before (because again, those drinks are strong) and have fun.

*Logistics: If you have no reservations, like me, the stand-by sign-up and waiting can take a long time, but in my case we were able to get in. ALL the staff working the lines, the door, and inside is super-efficient. They obviously have this process down. Just be ready to stand outside a long time. *Seating: I didn't expect it to be such tight quarters. You're almost literally rubbing elbows with the people on the next (tiny) table or shared wall-booth-seating-thing. Not for the claustrophobic! It can be warm inside, but I used the menu as a fan and managed. *The sets: Silly me, thinking because it's the weekend and this is such a legendary place where so many had their start, this somehow meant I was going to see the very best. Be prepared for "hit or miss". This is fine, after all, you're enjoying a night out with friends and all that. But they had some comedians that were almost painful to watch, that I wondered why they were given a break to try their set on a Saturday night. The GOOD comedians more than made up for the duds, though! Some great talent here with a tight routine and perfect delivery had us laughing heartily! I love standup, so the few "rough" ones don't ruin my night, just thought I'd warn that it's not wall-to-wall killin' it every set.

I'm feeling so lucky cause I recently moved to NYC but got to see Hasan Minhaj perform??! I have to thank my roommate cause I had no idea he was performing but she gave me the idea to come here for a date. And when I checked the lineup, I saw he was performing and swooped on those tickets! So glad I did cause the standby line was crazyyyyy. The acts that night were all so funny, my date and I were cracking up the whole night. There's a two item minimum per person (doesn't have to be alcohol, they have food and soft drinks too). We got their cocktails which honestly weren't that great but the acts made up for it. Pro tip: - Comedy Cellar has multiple venues. MacDougal street is the main location and the most famous one. Lots of famous comedians have performed here. - If you have reservations, you can start lining up early. But they don't let people in until 15 min before the show. Early birds get front row seats though if getting roasted is your thing. We were early but denied "special" treatment that night. - They pack you in tight. We were seated at a table with 3 other couples. Its basically impossible to get out of your seat without asking everyone to move so use the bathroom before sitting! (I made that mistake and felt so bad) - I would honestly stick to beer next time, their cocktails are pretty mid.

Our entire lineup was amazing, but to see both Colin Quinn and Ronny Chieng was such a dream, I can't even begin to describe how excited we were! But I'm not reviewing the comedy, I'm reviewing the venue, which was such an incredible space. It's very old school, I loved the Sinatra playlist, and I liked that it felt like a hide away; a sort of sanctuary for the depraved. Our waitress was fantastic, very nice and made sure we weren't ever waiting on her -- we mostly came for the comedy and beer, but we did have a few small bites that definitely fit the aesthetic. Everything was adequate to enjoyable! Absolutely a great time out in NYC

For my first time in NYC, I had to visit the legendary Comedy Cellar, and it did not disappoint! We started with dinner at the Olive Tree Cafe, which is connected, and the food and service were great. Chill atmosphere and friendly staff. The show was awesome, and a special guest made an unscheduled appearance. The unscheduled appearance was a bonus in my opinion (A huge bonus, but a bonus nonetheless. You never know who may show up...) The show would have been fun without the bonus guest. Stand up is art and the crowd and comedians can vary, so you gotta be open to roll with whatever happens. Go in with an open mind, and enjoy the experience of it all and you can't go wrong. We had a fantastic experience across the board!

The comedy seller is a great place to come for laughs and drinks with friends and family. We saw Margaret Cho, Bobby Lee and surprise guest Ali Wong! The comedians were hilarious. Service was great with drinks and food. Fun show and fun night for laughs

This was definitely a night to remember... don't sit in the front unless you're willing to be traumatized for life (cuz that's what we did lol); every comic, if they do their jobs well, will make the place roar with laughter, at your expense especially. By the end of the evening, all our faces hurt from laughter but I think my ego took the most hits lol #neversittinginthefrontagain but still a fun night for our group

It's a hit or miss kind of deal, but if you go be prepared to be absolutely uncomfortably squeezed in. I felt like I was holding a yoga pose last time I went. Thankfully, the shows are short

EVERY time I go to NYC I go to the Comedy Cellar. It doesn't matter who the comedians are - they are all good and you leave thinking about how much fun you had! You never know who will show up unexpectedly too! You never know! This might be one of the cheapest nights out in the city also because the cost for a ticket is low and so are the prices for drinks! You do need to book ahead if you don't want the standby line. You also have to get there in advance of the start time - they have a very orderly process of standing in line and letting people in as they get there....at least 30 min before the start time. It is quite an experience because it is small, which puts you up close to the comedians - the greatest setting for a night of fun! Please please please do NOT shout out at the comedians....we are all there for them and not for the jokesters in the audience!

We went on a Saturday night without reservations to the 8:45 show. If you don't have a reservation, then you stand in the standby line about one hour ahead of Showtime. Then, depending on how many people don't show up for their reservation, they let in a certain number of standby people. We lined up at 7:30 and just barely made it in.. maybe 15 people ahead of us. This place is a well oiled machine... From the standby line to the drinks and service. Everything moves very efficiently. Our comics were hilarious and pretty different from each other... none of them really did crowd work, not sure if that's common or not. I will say.. they jam you in this basement. It can be very difficult to get out of your seat to go to the bathroom so keep that in mind!

We had so much fun at our visit last week! We visited on Tuesday night, and there was a lineup of 6 or so comedians. I'd ordered tickets a few weeks prior. Be aware that in addition to tickets, there's a 2 drink minimum. We chose a pitcher of sangria, and my daughter ordered their chocolate cake. Everyone was pretty packed in. Initially we were placed in the front row, but we requested to be moved and it was no problem. We enjoyed all the comedians, although we definitely had our favorites. So glad we experienced the Comedy Cellar!

Live comedy is the best, and this is where to get it. Came a few years back and it was great. Good vibes y'all!!

We had so much fun at Comedy Cellar! We saw a show at the Village Underground (there are 3 other rooms) and I was taken back with how big the room was. We arrived about 30 mins early and had to show our ID at the door. The guy checked us in and gave us our table number which was written on a white envelope. Once we were inside we were instructed to place our phones and smart watches inside the envelope until the end of the show. From there we were led downstairs to be seated. The seating is a mix between really tight and spacious couches which I assume is for bigger parties. There is a 2 item minimum and the servers are quite efficient. I really enjoyed the experience and recommend booking the tickets online in advance.

We have fun every time we go! The Comedy Cellar is a guaranteed good time at a crazy reasonable price. The comics are always great, and we've developed a few favorites over our visits. Erin Jackson and John Laster are 2 of our favorite regulars. The atmosphere is cozy and feels like it's always filled with people who appreciate comedy. Is the seating tight for tall people with long legs - yes. Is it worth it for 90 minutes of a fantastic time... always. Be sure to order the pineapple vodka on the rocks!

We arrived 2 hours early b/c we had no reservations, and while I held our place in line, my wife and (adult) daughter did a little exploring around the East Village, something that we hadn't done in eons. When our turn came to enter, we got a table at the front, ordered our drinks and a bite to eat and had a wonderful time as 5 different comedians entertained us for the next 1 1/2 hours. Interestingly, there was a GenX comedian, a Gen Z, a Boomer and a Millennial and they all had different senses of what was funny. Of course, I'm an old fart and the Boomer was hilarious cause I could relate. Some of the more contemporary comedians made my daughter break out in hysterics whereas I didn't quite get the humor. Overall, a wonderful time.

Great venue for comedy! The service was very quick and friendly, food and drinks are reasonably priced, comedy was good, and atmosphere was fun! This venue does have a minimum of two items to be ordered per person, and it is phone free - they give you a bag to put your phone into for the duration of the show (you get to keep the bag, but you're asked not to use any electronic devices during the show); I was a fan of this! Forces you to focus on the atmosphere and comedy with no distractions.

Was here for a show for a couple of times and highly recommend an online reservation well ahead of time. Even then, we don't such a great table in this narrow basement club. Prior to that, on another night, we were in the standby line and didn't get a table. The hosts at the front door are not friendly at all, a little too rough with the way they treat people. Not that helpful for first time bookings. The club itself has a small stage on this narrow room. It's pretty much in your face comedy. Because of the layout it's hard to see the stage unless you are super close. Lots of people were turning their necks to see the comedian. There is a two drink minimum; our server was nice and quick. The show was about 90-120 minutes with lots of different comics. Our Saturday night lineup was not that funny; one guy out of the six gave us a couple good laughs.

The comedy cellar is an iconic club in NYC. I went to the late Tuesday night show which featured about six different comedians. You will be sitting shoulder to shoulder with people as they try and cram everybody in. I felt the check in process was a little disjointed on the busy sidewalks of NYC. We ultimately got in and made our showtime. Once we were in our server came over right away and checked on us multiple times to make sure we were doing ok. We saw some great comedians while we were there. I would definitely go back again you never know who is going to drop in!

One of my favorite and most memorable activities while visiting New York. Good hearty late night laughs in a packed basement with an incredible lineup. Rafi Bastos was my favorite comedian of the night, hands down. Word of caution. Research the lineup of comedians at your own risk. Most comedians tend to reuse their material, so if you watch their set on YouTube prior to the show, you'll lose a bit of the novelty factor. Some comedians do on the fly crowd work though and that interaction is always fun. If you're sitting toward the front, be prepared :) If you're looking for entertainment, don't skip out on the Comedy Cellar! Highly recommend buying tickets in advance to secure your seat.

Reservation instructions say to show up 15 min before reservation time so we did that. They made us wait outside for 40 min before letting us in. Then they pack you into this place like sardines and make you put your phone in a sealed envelope. The bathroom is also tiny and uncomfortable. They say last call 30 min before our show ended but didn't give us our check until the show was over. So then you have to wait some more before you can leave and it's already 2:30 am. The comics were hilarious but from a customer service standpoint this business is really lacking and the worst comedy club I've been to.

If you don't enjoy this place then you have no taste! Great club also the "Passion & Heat" is one of my favorite cocktails EVER!

I have mixed feelings about Comedy Cellar. I've been twice now, and both times the comedians were fine. My first time they all were actually just bad. It's expensive for the tickets and to pay for two items while there too. From such an iconic spot I kind of expect the comedians to be better... It's still fun to go and experience at least once but it's so hit or miss and dependent on your comedians. I feel like the MC was the funniest my first and second time around. Decent food offerings for the show and nice staff. Iconic spot to go. Reserve in advance and I'd recommend a weekday show as I've heard they are better.

It's tradition to come here every time we make our way to NYC. This is a must visit spot for locals or tourists! Every time we come here, we get the late show and make reservations early in advance. The first time we came here, we were asked to put our phones in a Manila folder before we went in. They do not take the folder, but they just ask for us to place them in the folder to ensure no one is on their phone. At first I was a little shocked they asked us to do so, but it made the show that much better! The other reason for this is that famous comedians come in and try some new material and want to ensure it's not recorded. For example, we've seen Louis CK and CHRIS ROCK!!! It was absolutely a treat! They never make their presence known before the show so it's an absolute surprise! I cannot rave about this place enough!!!

Yamaneika Saunders is thoroughly unfunny and ruined the entire night. Made SA jokes that were distasteful and I saw Daniel Tosh (who I enjoyed and was funny) so imagine comparing it to that. Would never go back solely based on her.

Had an enjoyable night with friends here. Always a fun time. Make sure you show up on time for your reserved time slot, and wait in the standby line outside the door.

My friends and I wanted to check out a show but didn't buy tickets in advance because of potential scheduling issues. The standby ticket situation was a winner for us! We got to put our names on a list, grab a drink around the corner, then got right in for a 10pm show. The seats we got were a bit awkward for your average person, but especially for me given I was dealing with a back injury but I ask to be moved so I won't fault them too much for that. We got the side of the stage because they were standby tickets but still totally worth it! The show was great, we enjoyed the variety of sets. Bonus, the chips and blue cheese were a tasty snack. It's definitely worth trying to get in without tickets and if you can't, there is plenty to do in the neighborhood! No phones were allowed so there are no photos to share.

I went to the comedy cellar branch on MacDougal Street. It was our first time ever at a comedy club. I did not know the lineup, but I think there was a surprise British comedian. All the comedians were extremely funny. They did make us put our phones in a plastic pouch and have it turned off during the entire show. There's also a two item order minimum per person which I found to be a bit extravagant given that there is also a $17 fee on just watching the performances. But if you think about it, this is still quite a decent price for a quality comedy show in New York City. Overall, this was probably my favorite thing to do in New York. I would highly recommend going there with a date or with friends. As for the food, I think the cheesecake was quite nice and so were the alcoholic drinks I believe I had a Wildberry martini, which was pretty. I wish they served bigger portions of it.

Really great comedians, a good mix of up-and-coming vs. industry veterans. My one complaint is that the kitchen was closed so there was no food available. Drinks were decent. A little expensive unless you come on a weeknight- bill totaled $100+ for two people ordering two drinks each.

Pretty straightforward process to enter. I booked reservations online ahead of time. The seating was very tight and some seats were in awkward postions, but it was still enjoyable. All of the comedians were great. I would like to visit their other two locations in the future.

First of all, this was a definite miss. The show was not great as the humor was inappropriate as some of the comedians were using their insecurities to bully my friend. The music was decent so I will give credit where it is owed. However, I came here for comedy on my last night and was disappointed. The server was extremely rude and didn't pay attention to our table or fill our water glasses. I do not recommend this club because it was an unpleasant overall experience. I would have rather spent my money and time elsewhere. I will probably never come back as this was a completely frustrating experience.

What a fun and enjoyable experience! Waited in line for about 20 minutes before the show. There was a line. We checked into the front, and we had to put our phones in a bag, then entered down the stairs into the space--very tight and snug. Service is stellar, and the staff are so kind. Line up was hilarious and poked at the front row. Great thing to do while in NYC! I would definitely go again.

Surprised that this place isn't 5 stars here. Personally we had a terrific night, there were multiple comedians and they were all really good. The atmosphere was great and they were very clear about the 2 drink minimum requirement before we paid. (No problem with this on my end!!). The entry fee is very reasonable and the night was a blast!

Went here multiple times while visiting New York. The security guard is professional and operations are smooth. The comedy is random but always spot on and hilarious. Loved it. Definitely a must see when you're in town. It's chilly inside so bring a sweater. One of my favorite things about New York.

10/10 the surprise guest was dave chappelle $17 cover charge + 2 item minimum per person came out to roughly $35. Well worth it for all the big names that drop by here. The setting inside is very intimate with around a 50 person capacity.
