"When soul food fuses with Latin Caribbean cuisine, you get Comfort Foodies. Owners Elsa and Jeff Matthews celebrate their multicultural partnership through a robust menu of incredible Dominican and soul food flavors. At the restaurant, you’ll find moro de guandules (a traditional Dominican dish made of rice and pigeon peas) and collard greens on the same plate. Their menu also has empanadas, oxtail and blackened catfish, along with many sides that mirror the couple’s heritage." - Alexandria Jack, Kayla Stewart

We met a friend for lunch. She had pork chops, my husband had the Dominican breakfast plate and I had fried catfish and grits. All the food was amazing. Looking forward to coming back!

Google
The best beef and chicken empanadas in Houston!!! In town on business and stopped in for a quick dinner. I've come in the last two nights and everything I tried at this restaurant was delicious. 5 ⭐️'s 😋😍

I’ve eaten at Comfort Foodies a couple of times and the food was good and cooked well. My experience this week was subpar. They’ve changed their services and no longer offer a complimentary piece of cornbread with your meal, you have to purchase it separately. My husband and I ordered two plates and the rice and peas were under cooked and grainy. I made the mistake of ordering extra rice and had to throw it away. The picture I posted is my husband’s plate the next day. He warmed it up to see if it would taste better, but the rice is still too grainy so he’s throwing it away. That’s $50 wasted on food we couldn’t eat. It’s unfortunate that the soul food options are limited on the north end. Sadly we probably won’t order from here again after this bad experience.

Whewww lawddd…I stopped in today for my first time. Idk how many times I passed this restaurant going to the gym…telling myself to stop in one day! Well today was the day and I got the Smothered Pork Chops with Mac & cheese, Collard greens and Corn bread. I also got one Oxtail Empanada…Mannnnn when I tell you it has been a very long time since I’ve tried a restaurants food that made me HAPPY!!!! I started with the Oxtail Empanada cuz I was like this thang look too pretty 🤣 I busted it open and man was it a juicy Oxtail empanada! It was so damn good and so damn favorable!!! I need a platter of them for my birthday next year I swear!!!! That was done in a minute I didn’t want to finish it since it was so good. Then I tried the Collard greens and when I tell you they were perfectly seasoned. Not too salty and the greens were cooked perfect 🤩 I haven’t tasted anybody’s collard greens that I have liked in a very long time. That’s hard to compete cuz I’m use to Georgia cooking; and that a whole new level of Cooking when it comes to Collard greens. Lawd, then I tried the Mac & Cheese and it was so cheesy and seasoned perfectly! This is my new favorite Mac & Cheese besides my cousins haha. The CORN BREAD Slapped!!! I swear the corn bread will always be the make it or break it deal lol it tasted like some Caribbean cornbread…All of it tasted very Caribbean and Southern!!! I loved it by all means of Life!!!! I read the reviews before going in and idk what they were talking about…cuz my experience was perfect. They were friendly and answered whatever questions I asked and I spoke to the owner which was Super friendly grinding in the kitchen!!! This is OFFICIALLY my new spot for comfort food. I tried the Smothered Pork Chops last….whewww they Had me at Hello like an Adele song 😆 they were perfect! I Don’t have not one single complaint about this meal I got. The rice was perfect, the gravy was perfect and the chops were tender and seasoned to perfection. Baby I swear nobody ever gets the word perfect from me 😮‍💨😩🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 Damn good meal! Yall don’t sleep on this place try them out at least once! Support your local restaurants and even if it is across town come try them! I couldn’t even finish my plate…the portions are big and on point!

Food for my SOUL! Have you ever had lamb chops with a Belgian waffle for brunch? Neither have I... until we ordered the Honey Balsamic Lamb Chops & Waffle from Comfort Foodies! The tender, game-y & savory lamb served with the super-fluffy and slightly sweet waffle were a pair I need more of in my life! Both items were outstanding by themselves, but together they are a mind-blowing combination. We also tried the Oxtails, which were rich & buttery - melt in your mouth. The Caribbean Rice & Beans were the perfect compliment to soak up the gravy. The sweet plantains were perfectly cooked and just the right level or ripeness. Enjoyed our meal!

Google
This place is like flying to the Dominican Republic to eat! I have vacationed in the DR several times and loved the food. I came to Comfort Foodies today and ordered their Fried Pork Chop dinner and my spouse got the Fish and Shrimp meal. The food was amazing for the price. The staff was very friendly and the kitchen was very fast. I would highly recommend this place to anyone wanting a taste of the Dominican Republic.

Google
Their oxtail empanadas are BEYOND INCONSISTENT!!!! Yesterday it was a lot of meat. Today?! Not even a freaking teaspoon!!!! That little brown on top of the beans? That’s ALL THE meat they put inside the empanadas

Came here with my friend during their lunch hours and we ordered the stew chicken meal and catfish meal. I’m going to be honest, when I looked at the website it gave cafeteria food, but my friend wanted to try it. And actually tasting the food, that’s exactly what it tasted like, bootleg soul food. The stew chicken was HORRIBLE! A little grave a lot of rice and the chicken tasted like it was boiled and thrown in gravy. HIGHLY disappointed. I asked for peas which I was charged for and it wasn’t on my plate ( I forgot these days you have to double check your order). My friend got the fried fish and it could’ve been seasoned more. The Mac & cheese had no flavor. The best thing was the yams. The greens had a strong Smokey taste. We paid extra for corn bread and surprisingly that was decent. The workers were nice. The margaritas, definitely didn’t have liquor in it. We were most definitely drinking a slushy, we decided to throw that away. Coming here was a 1 and done thing. We tried it because we seen advertisements. But 100% had BETTER soul food out here in Houston.

Yelp
Really enjoyed Comfort Foodies! I got to try the stew chicken, beans and rice, macaroni and cheese, cabbage, as well as the cornbread and mashed potatoes. I also tried the Tres Leches cake. Overall, everything was great! There was a hiccup with the cabbage because it was too mushy, however they allowed me to substitute macaroni and cheese and the macaroni and cheese was amazing! I'm so glad I got to try that. Thank you to the manager for listening and making sure I got best experience by letting me try another side! The cabbage had a great flavor - it was well seasoned and spicy, so maybe I'll give the cabbage a second try next time. I loved the stew chicken because it wasn't too salty and it was extremely tender. The meat basically fell off the bones. The beans and rice were also delicious! It doesn't look like there was much rice in the picture but there was a ton under the chicken! The only downside was that it was a bit pricey. But I understand that they may be just starting out. Definitely worth a try if you want some Dominican/Southern comfort food!

Yelp
Came in for lunch and walked to the register to look at a menu and even though two girls working were standing behind the counter they did not greet my wife or myself, Kiki took our order ( skinny girl) had an weird attitude and for some Odd reason acting as if she was too good to respond and this is someone taking My order taking My Money $60.00! !!!! Before I signed my charge ticket I asked KooKoo Kiki if the restaurant Honored Military Veterans and she said it was too late! Great way to treat someone who fought for our country! Needless to say this is Not a place I will be coming back to!

The Caribbean Rice & Beans were the perfect compliment to soak up the gravy. The sweet plantains were perfectly cooked and just the right level or ripeness - not too mushy or oily. Now, I have to be honest: some of the other sides and desserts weren't as remarkable. The collard greens were missing some flavor. The cornbread was super dry. And, the Guava Cake wasn't anything remarkable. But, I would absolutely come back for the delicious entrees. Enjoyed our meal!

Yelp
Came in for lunch with coworkers and I ordered chicken wings with yuca or fries and candid yams. The chicken wings were huge and had lots of hair on all of them in what made for a complex way of eating. The interior is spacey and clean! I always love when you can see everything when you walk in and it's neat. The service was good, the lady that took our order was knowledgeable in the food they served and that was about it. Overall, I was not pleased with the meal and do not plan on returning. Nothing personal, just not my cup of food.

Candace G.

Yelp
The food is always flavorful and delicious. Great, fast service and the restaurant is always clean. I always order online and it's ready quickly. I LOVE that they pack the sides separately so the juices don't mix.

Yelp
Bomb ox tails! Juicy, tender and nice flavor but I love spicy so I had to add some spice. My fam also got the empanadas and burger. Everyones food yummy and tastes so flavorful. Plus the services was really good. I look forward to trying something different next time, but I feel it will be hard to beat the ox tails.... Plus I ordered some mashed potatoes and ate with the gravy from the oxtails... mmmmm

Amie M F.

Yelp
Super yum! Everything I expected. I wish I had my pictures still. I plan on coming back.

Yelp
Two words.... ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! Let me tell you about this little gem that I've been wanting to try for some time now... the food was so good and lives up to the name of the restaurant Comfort foodies. First the service was very hospitable, they were so friendly and the music was on cue, not too loud and bonus my husband got to watch the football game... they have TV at every wall so you can see it. We came after church so we were looking for soul food, my husband had the Dominican smothered chicken, I got the oxtail, my mom got the smothered pork chop and my dad got the fried catfish.... EVERYBODY enjoyed their meal, even the kids chicken tenders were crispy and seasoned well! All sides were definitely delicious! It was so good to support a black owner restaurant....I WILL BE BACK!

Yelp
Visited for brunch and had a hard time choosing because so much in the regular and brunch menu sounded good. I settled for the empanadas and veggie plate and the others in my party ordered chicken and waffles and burgers. None of us complaints and almost all of us were full before we could finish our food. Both the chicken and cheese and beef and cheese empanadas were juicy and well-seasoned. The mac and cheese was delicious- it was such a pleasant surprise!! I surprised myself and shared it despite how good it was because my companions needed to know what they were missing. :) Staff was extremely nice. They checked in our table-made sure we were satisfied with our food more than once. It was extremely clean and bright inside. I will return to try out more items.

Yelp
My visits to Comfort Foodies both times have been enjoyable because the food is delicious and full of flavor, but honestly brought down a notch due to lackluster or negative customer service. Because of the layout of the restaurant you order at the corner and then go to your seat. And on two separate dining in occasions the staff at the register have had rushed, impatient and sometimes rude comments and attitudes to guests. Twice I have just ordered carry out and had a slightly less rude response but make sure you check you order includes everything that was promised on the menu because they'll try to charge extra instead of being consistent.

Yelp
OBO Recommended I try this place so it's been on my radar to swing by when In the area. I stopped in around 630 pm. Being from NY and knowing what a smash hit a claim of Dominican and Soul food fusion can be I was excited to try it. I didn't ask too much but I'm pretty sure it was the owner who tended to me. She was sweet. I got the last order of the Dominican stewed chicken with greens and candied yams. We also got beef and cheese empanadas and Mac and cheese. I would've got a frozen drink but the machines were down So let's get into this... first let me say- if I need to order Mac - because I don't want to make it- baaaaayyybeee it's coming from here okay! It was cheesy. Noodles were cooked perfectly. It had that hint of mustard that I love. And it wasn't salty! And what it definitely wasn't is Kraft or velveta mac !! I loved that! So super kudos to the chef because Texas has yet to please my Mac n cheese palate til I found this place. Now--- if it were served in a cast iron with a golden cheese top.... That would elevate!! The empanadas are well stuffed with a yummy flaky crust. The taste of sofrito warms my soul and as apuesto Rican I appreciate that not being skipped over in an empanada recipe!! The greens- yes order them. Not too salty and a good portion of greens-- like momma says don't forget your veggies Candied yams. Yes order them too! Something's you just can't skip over ... these melt in your mouth. Packed with flavor like they cooked ever so slowly in the perfect perfect mixture of sugars, cinnamon, and vanilla ...... mmmmm Ok. So this is the last think- it was good- but not my favorite- and because I know how bottom of the pot can go I am willing to give it another try. The stewed chicken was good it was - like you can tell if the salt content was kicked back a hair or two... maybe three.. it would've been perfecttttt! But that gravy was on the meat anddd the rice so I had to ask for a side of rice without gravy to properly enjoy the chicken with rice. And then I was a happy happy girl. Overall I give the food a solid 4/5 like you can eat and be merry The restaurant it self is a bit lackluster. It sort of gave little old island joint but not. The wall mural was something reminiscent of many Latin restaurants we visit. But I'd say a bit dated. I'm thinking NO frills might be a better explanation. Like you're coming to eat... no ig moments or anything else the youngins like teehee. But I hope to see this establishment really grow into something amazing because I think the foundation is a GO! I look forward to round two where we go a little bigger with the platter and hopefully oxtails are available too. Enjoy !

Yelp
I have ordered here many times via delivery service and I finally had a chance to dine in. Cute place overall! Small, not too many tables but they have a bar seating area with a few seats. I'm docking off one star for the overall cashier/table service, Mac n cheese which needs some improvement, and the fact that they didn't have any Presidente beer. Considering it's a Dominican spot and that is the national beer, I was disappointed. I will continue to eat here.

Yelp
This little spot popped up really close to my work and today I met up there with a friend after hearing some good things. Super clean and sleek inside, very minimalist. Order at the counter. We were lucky on the day we went and the owner was taking our order, she was very friendly and patient with us. The special of the day was a Caribbean stewed chicken that came with rice and 2 sides for $10; my friend ordered that and really seemed to enjoy it. I had to try the smothered pork chops and a beef empanadas. The pork dish also came with white rice under 2 chops smothered in a tasty, peppery gravy. Chops were decent sized and nice & tender; I think the gravy really gives the dish flavor as it's a fantastic gravy. For sides I had green beans and mac and cheese, both of which were well seasoned and tasty. The beef and cheese empanada was flaky and a good addition but to my meal but wasn't overly impressive; the remoulade type of sauce that came with the empanada however was quite tasty. Overall a nice first visit, will definitely go back and try some other items from the menu.

Yelp
I have the opportunity to try this restaurant for Black Restaurant Week. The facilities were clean and the customer service was very good. I ordered the brown stew chicken with yams & cabbage. The food was very very good. I highly recommend this establishment. I can't wait to stop by again. Dr. B.

Yelp
I've eaten here twice within the past couple of weeks. Comfort Foodies is located on the frontage road of the toll road and shares a building with Shipley's Donuts next door with plenty of parking available. Inside it is new and clean looking counter service restaurant. My first visit was for lunch and I ordered the smothered pork chops that come with two side dishes and I chose green beans and mac n cheese for $17. When the meal arrived less than 10 minutes later I noticed it also came with a large piece of cornbread along with white rice. The two pork chops were boneless and covered in a dark brown thick gravy that also covered part of the rice. Temperature wise I wish it had been warmer and taste wise the meat was good and the gravy had a peppery slant to it that wasn't my favorite. Also, they didn't give me enough of the gravy to cover the rice so I didn't finish it. The mac n cheese was on the dry side and perhaps baked too long. The green beans were quite good tasting and seasoned well and both sides were large in size. Overall, I gave this meal a 3. The second visit was for dinner and I went with the Dominican style stewed chicken with chosen sides of corn and mashed potatoes and gravy for $14. When the meal arrived I forgot it also came with white rice or I wouldn't have ordered the mashed potatoes. This meal was better. First of all the chicken (leg and thigh) were tasty and tender having been stewed and fortunately for me they put gravy from the stewed chicken over the rice and it was delicious. I loved that gravy. The mashed potatoes had the same thick peppery brown gravy from last time. Finally the corn tasted fresh and I enjoyed it. Also the cornbread supplied with every entree was warm and fresh tasting too. This meal was a 4. I'm going to give a 3 overall score for my visits. I decided to round down because they charge $4 for tea and fountain soft drinks. Most restaurant don't charge anymore than $3. I would consider returning for that chicken and gravy over rice.

Yelp
I don't even know where to begin. I'll start by saying , I was picked to host Thanksgiving this year. I didn't want the hassle of having to watch 2 turkeys cook. I remembered seeing a holiday menu at comfort foodies , when ordering our favorite Dominican food. This Turkey did not disappoint!! It was so juicy and flavorful. Not only was the Turkey fried to perfection, the ordering and pick up was straight forward. I would definitely recommend them for all things delicious.

Nina T.

Yelp
First time trying soul food. We had ox tail and wings. OMG if I wasn't about to burst I would have licked the plate clean. So delicious, flavorful but not salty. Loved every bite. Collard greens are a must to cut thru some of the delicious fat. :D so good! Service was great and food came out timely.

Miranda W.

Yelp
OMG!! Visit NOW!! The food did not disappoint. My tastebuds were dancing in my mouth. My husband enjoyed his shrimp basket as well. This place is a hidden Gem!! Great customer service and food comes hot and quickly. Cute ambiance with TV's and decorative seating area. I promise you will not be disappointed. I also had a passion fruit margarita on the rocks (not pictured) that was really good as well. Can't wait to visit again!!!

Lanre M.

Yelp
This was recommended on social media so I gave it a try. The meal was fantastic I had the veggie plate and my lady had the southern catfish and shrimp combo fried. Tasted the way I expected, good and the service was pleasant. If I wasn't on my diet ill explore the menu further but I do recommend it to anyone feeling hesitant.

Tangible H.

Yelp
YES, they are good. Do yourself a favor and just: GO! The place is clean and spacious. The patrons are all welcoming and polite. Now onto business: THE FOOD. Oh, the food! I am nitpicky, especially when it comes to customer service, food presentation, flavor and texture. Everything was delicious! See pictures. We ordered: catfish basket (it was fried to perfection , golden, and crispy; even the fries had flavor), oxtail dinner plate with (2) sides, we added an extra, and the catfish sandwich, and empanadas. The empanadas were hot and fresh, also the perfect amount is softness and crisp. The greens and yams were teeming with flavor; made similar to the way my grandmother made them. Drinks: very good, and well-balanced. I typically do. It like tequila or margaritas, but theirs were good. Go!

Ashley M.

Yelp
Saw this spot on a Houston foodie page and drove out to give it a try. We were greeted upon arrival. Took a moment to glance the menu. We ordered 2 chicken, 1 shrimp, and 1 beef empanada. Side of yams. A fried pork chop sandwich with fries. 2 drinks. We sat in to eat the food this time. Food came out pretty fast. She stated the empanadas were marked but it was not as easy as it looked, at least ours. We debated and looked all over those empanadas. We were only able to see the chicken one. Hubs doesn't eat beef so I bit into one we assumed was beef and it was shrimp, so I'm happy he didn't get that one. The stamp on it wasn't deep enough for us to tell the difference. But the chicken was good. Beef was dry, needed more flavor. And shrimp just didn't taste good for either of us. Yams were good. The pork chop was good. I thought it was going to be a breaded fried chop but it was pan fried. No biggie. You can leave everything on the table when you leave as they will remove everything from the table.

Sergio V.

Yelp
I decided to give this place a 2nd chance after going there and they were sold majority of their food, and boy did the flavor not disappoint. The oxtails were very tender and flavor, Mac and cheese some of the best in Houston and they gave good portions. This a family operated place with personal touch of customer service. Only reason they got a 4 star is because they are a bit more expensive than a lot of place for oxtails. Overall definitely a spot I will visit again.

Tomasa R.

Yelp
Okay, let's get into it! Location- Great, location right off the Sam Houston Toll Road. So you have easy access to the location. The location was very clean, including the bathroom. They have about 3 large TVs that allow you to watch sports. Football (soccer), UFC, and football highlights were playing today. Their playlist had all the 90's -2000s R&B jams in rotation. Service- It was decent, nothing over the top. The wait was a little long but, nothing crazy. I appreciated the wait because I knew our food would be fresh and made to order and it was! Packing/products- To go packing is sustainable and good for transportation. Anything likely to spill they put in its own containers to avoid a mess or spilling into other food. This allows you to experience the full flavor of everything. Taste- Baaaaby, this is the best soul/ Caribbean food I've had so far in North Houston. Everything was so fresh and flavorful. Smothered Porkchop- comes over rice. This was so good and likely my favorite. I don't normally eat pork but when I do, it will be this!!!! The smothered sauce was amazing. Mac n cheese- it's not baked mac n cheese but it tastes very good. It doesn't taste like Kraft stove top. I would get it again. Steamed white rice and Dominican-style beans- so good and full of flavor. Southern Style Cabbage- seasoned well, not overly seasoned but seasoned just right. I would have liked to have some meat in it, but that's just me. Candied Yams- I loved them, not super syrupy! They tasted great and light but full of flavor. Dominican style brown stewed chicken- comes over rice, it was so good and flavorful. It was so tender and well-cooked fell right off the bone, literally! Banana pudding- nice slices of banana and vanilla wafers. Tasted fresh. Peach Cobbler- I love me a nice crispy flaky crust and this had all that! Overall- They did forget to put our Empanadas in our bag. However, one of the best I've had in North Houston! They have a nice dine-in atmosphere. This will be a spot I take the fam when they come into town! My advice, since the Dominican stewed chicken and the, smothered Porkchops come over rice. So I wouldn't order an additional rice side dish for this reason. Lastly, you can order in advance online from their website.

Yelp
It was Sunday and I was out with my broke best friend (my 4yr old) and she wanted to go out to eat so bad. She is vegetarian and I was in the mood for something comforting. Checked out things in the area and Comfort Foodies' menu seemed perfect with lots of options for us both, it's both Dominican and Soul Food. My little friend fell asleep in the 12 minutes it took to get there so I ordered our meal to-go. Upon entering it's laid out so you can order and sit down or get it to go. The gentlemen in the kitchen let me know that they would be with me in just a moment (they are hiring) so I get it and this gave me more time with my internal debate about breaking my diet and eating pork for some smothered pork chops or getting oxtails. The owner and staff all said the oxtails. They proceeded to bring me a bowl with a sample to try after I asked if it was akin to Jamaican stewed oxtail which is a sweeter taste profile than what I desired for the evening. You guys that gravy deserved a straw and I immediately had to remember that I am 30+ and in public and not to lick the bowl. It was really hard not to, but the way that meat fell off the bone...everyone was right, get it. Personally, I will ask for extra gravy in a bowl next time too to drink like bone broth. The oxtails came with two sides, and cornbread which I didn't receive but also don't typically like so it wasn't missed, but be sure to double check to go orders. I opted for sweet potatoes and greens as sides. I personally could do without the sweet potatoes they were too sweet for me, my daughter loved them though. The greens were delicious and have turkey, not pork!!!!!! Additionally, we ordered the macaroni and the Dominican rice and beans (ours came combined which was a bit confusing because of pictures that I'd previously seen and my macaroni was forgotten) but upon returning they were super sweet apologized, and delivered a great experience. This husband and wife team is doing a phenomenal job delivering delicious diverse food and great service and we will be back to try empanadas and dine in too. It really has a cute beach vibe on the inside and a vegan/vegetarian-friendly menu.

Yelp
Authentic Taste! Great customer service!! Laidback atmosphere!! I will recommend this place for anyone looking for great food on any day of the week.

Yelp
This was a DoorDash Delivery so I can't speak/rate the restaurant's customer service or my dine-in experience... However, based on the taste and freshness of this oxtail plate, this place can COOK!!! First off, sweet potatoes were top tier, not overly syrupy-sweet. Perfect texture, wasn't too mushy at all. 10/10 Collard greens were really good. Can really taste the smoked turkey or meats used in the cooking process. 7.5/10 Oxtails we're tender and very flavorful, can tell they clean and trim the bad fat off. And that gravy on top of the rice and beans was soooo delicious. 9/10 The Beef Empanadas (Not pictured because I ate it too fast) very good but that was also my first ever trying empanadas so I could be biased lol. 8/10 Will definitely go back, without hesitation... believe the hype!

Stacye B.

Yelp
My daughter and I tried this eatery over the weekend. EVERYTHING we ordered was really good. I order the oxtails with cabbage and greens...really good! Beef empanada...GREAT! My daughter ordered stewed chicken with the empanada flight. She indicated everything was good! It's a quaint place with great customer service. I'll be back for more.

The pandemic seemed to have stifled Caribbean restaurants as it has most small restaurants. Post-pandemic, it has been quite difficult to find a Caribbean restaurant that is up to expectations of quality, taste and value. My search is over!!! Comfort Foodies...Soul meets Caribbean/Dominican style food! Food was phenomenal! Seasoned perfectly without being salt! Salt IS NOT Flavor! Disclaimer: This IS NOT a soul food restaurant, so judge it as such. This restaurant takes on some traditional soul food entrees and spin it with Caribbean Love! The oxtails were fall off the bone tender. The collard greens were Not soft or mushy and full of flavorful! The in house made empanadas were to die for. I had the oxtail empanadas ( Oxtails were my theme for the night!). Elsa, the owner is so lovely inside and out! She walked us through the menu so we could try multiple items. She also gave us a large sampling of red beans and rice, Dominican style!!! So Yummy! Thank you, Elsa! We'll be back!

Yelp
Man, look. If you like soul food, get here! If you like Dominican food, get here. If you have ever eaten food ever, GET HERE. I'm sorry for the lack of pics. I was very excited to taste the food. I had the Dominican-style brown stewed chicken. Each entrée comes with 2 sides. My dish normally comes with white rice, but I was given the option to sub that for Caribbean rice and peas. For my sides, I chose cabbage and green beans. Absolutely everything was delicious! The chicken was fork tender, and the sauce was finger lick worthy. (Yes, I lick my fingers when it's that good. I'm not too cute to eat.) The cabbage and green beans were both seasoned very well, like somebody's Big Mamma/Abuela is back there cooking. That's not the case, I saw the chef, and he put his foot, well all of it. If you aren't familiar with that term, that means he can really cook. I'm sure he's not literally putting his foot in anything, but I digress. Hubby had the fried catfish and shrimp. Of course, he let me taste. The catfish took me back to childhood, y'all! His sides were greens (which were very good) and white rice with Dominican beans, also quite tasty but I preferred the rice and peas. Everyone was very nice. I can't wait to eat here again.

Yelp
I came in one day and was recommended the blackened catfish and it was delicious! I've been back now 3 times and they've been consistent with everything. I love every side that I've tried here! I will be back

Yelp
Came here after looking to try something new and to support small business. So glad we came. The food was delicious! The place is warm and inviting. Service impeccable. We will definitely return.

Yelp
Horrible customer service and even worse food Should have taken the place being empty as a red flag, don't waste your time or money.down below is a picture of what they called candy yams aka just boiled sweet potato Bffr

Yelp
Excellent food; excellent service. A great hidden gem that's gaining momentum. The ox tails ate my recommendation.

Yelp
Got takeout on a Sunday night and it was empty. The lady in the front said they are usually busy during the day. The place was clean and spacious. We tried the oxtail empanadas and it was good, but barely anything inside so I wouldn't get again. I order the Dominican stew soup and it was like a 3/5. The Dominican rice and beans were really really good I would order them again. My husband ordered the catfish and shrimp and said it was really good also. He wants to go back to try the oxtails. Customer service was amazing.

Yelp
The person that took my order was really friendly, the atmosphere was welcoming and the food came out really fast. I got the Dominican stew chicken with candied yams, cabbage and mac and cheese. The gravy was greasy, chicken needed more seasoning, yams were good, the cabbage was okay and the Mac and cheese was a bit dry. I've gotten Mac and cheese every time I placed an order here and it tasted different every time. In my opinion the food is okay.

Yelp
Food amazing no amount of words you just gotta try it, service great, ambiance comfortable like my moms living room sofa.

Yelp
I have eaten here at least 4 times. The empanadas are excellent, the ox-tails are hit or miss, and the catfish is always on point along with the grilled fish. The vegetables are unfortunately wayyy to salty. I will say they are very willing to change something if it doesn't work for you which is a plus for customer service. But please please cut back on the seasoning, as a culture we are already the highest at-risk for high blood pressure. Food can be good without being loaded down with sodium. I would recommend that you checked them out, and I certainly hope their business does well. Sincerely concerned about the high levels of high sodium.

Yelp
Food is defiantly comforting! Full of flavor and satisfying. The staff members were very kind and welcoming. Will defiantly be back to try the empanada platter!

Yelp
Horrible and poor customer service. I contacted you this company in regards to packaging.. (door dash order).. YOU SHOULD NEVER PACKAGE SEAFOOD WITH OTHER DISHES!! Contacted the store due to my partners allergy. I contacted this establishment.. The manager/owner answer and was very rude and condescending... Again seafood objects should never be mixed with regular food.

Yelp
I watched this restaurant build out and hoped that it would be good as we don't have a ton of restaurants in the area. I finally made my way in for dinner last night with my family. Let me tell you...I'm so glad we did! The service was fast and the staff, including the owner was so nice. We dined in and enjoyed the following dishes which were so delicious: -Dominican chicken+rice with green beans and greens -Smothered pork chops with greens & rice and beans -Banana pudding (famous!) -Peach cobbler We will definitely go back as we can't wait to try their other dishes!

Yelp
I really like the spot. I wasn't a fan of the chicken wings only because I'm special. My husband seem to enjoy the Dominican chicken and his shrimp empanada. The oxtail empanada was beast! Go try them. The prices were great as well.

Yelp
Now when my boss ask why I'm sleeping on the job ima tell 'em "blame them folks at Comfort Foodies". Finally got a chance to try the food here and it held up to my standards which is pretty high. I had the Dominican Stew Chicken which came with a stewed thigh and leg, rice and my two sides were, yams and macaroni. Drink of choice was tea from their fountain drink selection. The food was grrrrrrrreat. Grandma can take her dentures out and go to town, that's how soft everything was. This is a must try if you're looking for soul food with a twist of Dominican. Staff was welcoming, for someone who has social anxiety this was a calming atmosphere. The food came out within 10 mins of ordering. Only gripe I have, would prefer 3 pieces of chicken instead of 2. Overall 10/10 Well done!!! I'm bout to to sleep now lol

Yelp
This was my first time here. When I first walked in, I wasn't greeted and they were not busy. I ordered the oxtail empanadas and they were tasty just not enough filling in them. You are eating mainly breading. I ordered the stewed chicken and there was absolutely no flavor no seasoning. All the peppers and onions were not present in the dish. It also tasted burnt. I did not enjoy my lunch at all.

Yelp
This place is awesome! The food and service was nothing short of amazing. While dining in, we were greeted by the owners and they made it a point to ensure that our experience was exceptional. The Oxtails were super tender and seasoned well, the candied yams are made fresh daily and are delicious. Can't forget about the fried plantain, cornbread and oxtail empanadas, those were very good too.

Yelp
I went to Comfort Foodies over the weekend and the experience was amazing! I got the oxtails and it was sooooooo good!! The meat just fell off the bones and it was full of flavor. The portion was very generous. My son wanted the chicken wings with rice and bean and he devoured it! You can tell nothing was from the can. Everything was fresh. I also had the passion fruit margarita and the soursop margarita and OMGAAAAHHHH, you can taste the natural ingredients that were used! The owners were the sweetest and so was the young lady taking our order at the counter. True southern hospitality. I cannot wait to go back!

Yelp
Let me start off with the positive. Customer service was very friendly, establishment looks really clean and welcoming. The downside, food was just okay. We ordered the Oxtails with White Rice, Mac&Cheese, Cabbage...Dominican Stew Chicken & Chicken Empanadas. Great portions of food. However, there was a lack of flavor and the price for the food did not match! We were excited to give this new spot a try. Unfortunately, we were disappointed on the taste. Maybe next time we will try the fried catfish/shrimp basket.

Yelp
Food was terrible I actually wanted to get a refund but I just left wing dinner for 2 .. smh

Yelp
The service was amazing. They have tables for you to sit and eat in. I place my food order to go on Doordash then went and picked it up. It was ready in minutes. The food was amazing and on point. Everything was seasoned to perfection. Porkchops, collards greens and cabbage.
