"Comfortland is what you’d get if you let a hungry pre-teen design your menu with very little pushback. The over-the-top takeout spot started in Astoria, and now it has second location on the Lower East Side where you can grab some chopped cheese empanadas, loader tater tots with hot honey and ribeye, and a cornmeal-crusted fried chicken sandwich oozing spicy mayo and blackberry jam." - will hartman, willa moore, molly fitzpatrick, sonal shah, bryan kim
"Open since 2018 by Astoria hero Donnie D’Alessio, Comfortland serves way too many things to even begin to list in this small space, but chief among them is a single destination-worthy cake: the now famous rainbow cookie crumb cake. Made by Donnie’s sister Montana, aka @donutdivany, it has been around since the days of Queens Comfort, their original restaurant at this same location. Thankfully they kept it alive, and if you’re lucky enough, you might see when they make the PB&J variation occasionally. They usually have it in the classic flavor, recently dressed up for Thanksgiving, or optionally filled with a layer of cannoli cream in the middle." - Mike Chau
"At this cafe and donut shop in Astoria, you order at a to-go window, and the menu involves various burgers, fried chicken sandwiches, and pastries like a red velvet cream donut. The go-to breakfast sandwich is the “McGruffin”: you’ll struggle to fit all of its layers in one bite, and the moist buttermilk biscuit is so fluffy and sweet it could be classified as a cupcake." - bryan kim, willa moore, neha talreja, molly fitzpatrick, sonal shah, will hartman
"An Astoria restaurant in Assembly District 36 where a campaign announcement video was filmed; the video used the slogan “Is the political menu feeling a little stale? In 2025, it’s time to try something different,” linking the restaurant setting to the candidate’s theme of refreshing the political menu." - Emma Orlow
"When you’re in the mood for a coffee break in Astoria, going to Comfortland is like collecting a mushroom in Mario Kart, it’s a significant level-up. This counter spot on 30th Avenue has a menu of elaborate pastries like funfetti twinkies and a donut whose flavor is reminiscent to that of a Samoa Girl Scout Cookie. They also sell some delicious (and monstrous) sandwiches in case you plan on “working really hard” for the rest of the day." - hannah albertine
