Comfort’s African Cuisine - Review - Lakeview - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Historically, Lakeview hasn’t been the go-to neighborhood for Nigerian food. But Comfort’s African Cuisine is a beacon of hope for anyone looking for some jollof rice and catfish pepper soup. The aforementioned jollof rice is a must-order—it’s rich and savory and comes with your choice of two meats. Stick to the juicy pieces of goat and beef versus the fish and turkey. We also like their sweet, doughy puff puff along with the sinus-clearing spicy suya. The dimly lit dining room has plenty of tables for groups, perfect for passing around a ball of fufu and scooping up herbaceous, nutty egusi." - John Ringor

This is the most disgusting place I have ever gotten food from. The food was in the fridge, who knows how many days old. I saw silver pans of food in a fridge, look like it was cooked elsewhere. I ordered beef and jollof rice. The beef was one big hard bone!! An inedible piece of mystery meat. It looked like a piece of meat they used to put in a stew to “flavor” the dish. I could not take one bite. Please do not buy from here they need to be shut down !!! $18 for bush meat and spicy unflavored rice! Disgusting!!!

This is truly a taste of home. The jollof rice chicken is perfectly seasoned, the poundo yam is smooth and satisfying, and the egusi soup with goat meat so delicious and rich in flavor and cooked to perfection. The suya is smoky, spicy, and absolutely delicious. Great food, and an authentic, Highly recommended!

I was craving some West African food on Thanksgiving so I decided to order from Comfort African Cuisine through the website. While waiting for my food I got a notification that the order was canceled ( duh of course they were closed lol). I called the next day and spoke with the kitchen and they confrimed that they were closed and that the pending charge will back on my card which it was! They was so kind and apologetic for the situation which was totally not their fault. This is why I love the place and putting customer first. Looking forward to ordering there again soon!

In Chi town for a few days, decided to try this place.Ordered on uber eats, the fried rice was 3/10, the goat meat was boiled and stewed , why could you guys not just fry your goat meat so it tastes good. The turkey was one bony piece of turkey for $5:99. You could have just given a descent piece of turkey, but No. I will say that the moinmoin in the leaf was really nice. That was the best thing from my whole order. I don’t know if I would have been served something better if I had dined in. Overall I was dissatisfied and would try somewhere else next time.

**DO NOT RECOMMEND BY ANY MEANS** I was really looking forward to this meal, as I genuinely enjoy African food. However upon trying to enter the restaurant, the front door didn’t even open which should have been my first sign not to enter in. Once being seated (in a very empty restaurant), we placed our order and the food came not too long after. I heard a series of microwave sounds as she was in the kitchen preparing the meal. Once we got our food I was very confused as to what I even ordered, upon taking a bite I began to question the meat that was given. It was like actual rubber, and what appeared to be goat testicles. The entire time trying to eat whatever it is that was on the plate, she was in the back having a full blown loud conversation on the phone. We actually needed her a few times, but she was in the kitchen totally not able to be found without entering in. Not once did she check on us, not once did she ask if we needed anything else, or how was the food. Not to mention I was petrified by how disgusting the bathroom was, and in all I honesty I should’ve known better because the kitchen was no better. If I have the energy I will report to the food and health administration for a thorough grade.

This has quickly become our new favorite restaurant in the neighborhood. On our first visit, the server and owner patiently explained various Nigerian dishes they offer and shared great recommendations. The food was a hit - we have returned multiple times, each visit being equally satisfying. The pounded yam with Egusi soup was full of flavor and a standout. The cow skin, goat, and beef tripe were all delicious. We also tried the fish roll, beef pattie, and puff puffs, all flavorful and well-prepared. The server and owner are very friendly and always made us feel welcome. We’re looking forward to many more visits in the future.

I ordered through Uber Eats and one hour later, the food arrived hot. The plate of Jollof rice with beef and fish was delicious. The beef was soft and flavorful, better than other African restaurants I’ve tried in Chicago. I’m not a huge fan of the moi moi and plantain. The plantain was not fresh, it seemed microwaved but, I’ll definitely order the Jollof again.

10/10. I’ll definitely be back! The egusi was great. It all tasted so good and I’m just happy I live so close. If I’m showing a friend around Chicago, this is going on my list of places to bring them. The staff is very friendly - this place is a hidden gem for sure. Ordered: Jollof rice with goat and white fish, egusi with fufu and goat and beef
