Metro Detroit’s Best Fish and Chips | Eater Detroit

"Wayne State-area hangout Common Pub serves up big pieces of walleye fried until golden in a brown ale batter and is just across the street from campus. Convenient. Generous filets are paired with a large helping of crispy, duck-fat fries, creamy coleslaw, and tartar sauce for dipping. Pair your plate with one of three beers or ciders on draft and be sure to check out the spot’s event page for details about weekly trivia night, comedy night, and more." - Serena Maria Daniels

Loved the shrimp tacos! So flavorful. They have a $9 lunch special when you can get a beer, a burger, and fries and my friend loved it. Such a great deal. I also got a long drink because they have a promo right now to get $5.00 on Venmo if you buy a long drink. Service was great, and the inside is so cute.

Google
The food was decent. I got the Korean BBQ salmon. it was unique and a little spicy. the brownie a la mode was REALLY good. The prices weren't too bad. The place is fairly small so it was hard to talk to my friend over the music (we happened to go on jazz night). I wouldn't mind eating there again though, just not on jazz night.

Last Saturday evening we hosted a birthday party for our daughter's 50th in the private room at the Common Pub. It was an amazing success and a culinary event for all of our fifty attendees. The food options that we were able to select from allowed us to meet the expectations of the diverse age range and palates of the folks that came. Everyone loved the food. Sheila, Yen, Kat and Rex provided outstanding service passing appetizers and preparing and taking and passing drink orders. Although the culinary staff of Gil, Emeka, Chaona, and Aaron were only briefly seen, they did a marvelous job of preparing a variety of food items that were wonderful in variety and taste. We have had dinner and drinks a couple of times at the restaurant before this party was planned and found the staff, location and ambiance to be a great choice for the party. They did not let us down!

Google
The good: Excellent food. Everything here is super delicious. They do it very well here. One of better burgers in town. The bad: service is par and the drink are OK. So as a bar meh, but food - great! The vibe is a weird mix of old nostalgic bar vibes but also with a dabs of modern lighting and space. Not sure what exactly there going for but it’s unique. Try to find the squirrel 🐿.

Amazing food for the right price! Steak & Fries cooked to perfection. Fish was a little heavy on the batter but still good.

Onion rings came after we ate our entrées, and fries needed seasoning. Service could improve, but the food did come out hot and fresh. Drinks were good

When I went to Wayne - this was the place. I mean what more could you want in a place that has great food, amazing beer, and duck fat fries (they will change your life). They also host a variety of events such as karaoke and quiz games.

Ordered a Buffalo Chicken Burger + Fries w Parsley, Parm & Truffle aioli. It was soooo good! Big portion. Good service. Recommend!

Yelp
Great atmosphere and great service. We went here right before we picked up our little guy from his first day of preschool. I had "the melty", tuna melt sandwich. It was good. However, I'm not a fan of rye bred with fennel, which this comes on. It just said it was on marble rye, which I've had that didn't have fennel. Next time, I'm going to see if there is a different bread. I also had the summer sprouts, Fried Brussel Sprouts, Bacon, Asiago Cheese and Dried Cherries. I could eat that all day they were that good. My wife had the Mack Avenue burger with duck fat fried french fries. This is her go to since she loves it so much, especially the duck fat fried fries. Great neighborhood to take a walk after you finish your meal as well.

Yelp
It's a bad sign when you walk into a place at 5pm on a Friday and it's empty. To be frank, I can see why. Our waiter was sarcastic more than once. For instance, when my fiancé amiably asked if her strawberry margarita order had been submitted, the waiter was off-put by the question. He walked away and obviously made mention of it to another server, as she joked about it loud enough for us to hear. After 10-15 minutes, we received the drink, which ended up lacking any flavor. As for the food, the "cherry bomb sauce" that came with the cheese curds was excellent. The poutine of the week, which was lamb based, was enjoyable, as well. The rest of our meal was decent, but nothing to write home about. I did appreciate the chef personally serving our food and coming back to ask how it was. Mind you, we didn't make mention of the prior events to anyone, so it was nice to see someone take pride in their work. It's a shame the first half of our experience went the way it did, as we will most likely not return because of it. Considering less than 10 people were dining in, it shouldn't haven taken more than 5 minutes to prepare a drink. More importantly, there's absolutely no excuse for belittling customers.

Yelp
We got takeout from here on a Friday night and it was pretty empty, although the staff at the bar made sure to finish their conversation before helping me grab my food. We got two burgers with the duck fat fries. The food was pretty good, but it's definitely just regular bar food. I wasn't a fan of the pickled tomatoes either. I was also hoping the fries would be crispier like other duck fat fries I've had but they were more like regular thick cut fries. Not a bad place though, and they're in such a good spot being next to Wayne.

Yelp
Great little pub to stop in for a few after dinner drinks. We looked at the menu and we want to go back to try their food. They had a special Noel night menu though-so I didn't see their regular every day menu. Place had a fun vibe and the staff were really Friendly.

Yelp
I visited Common Pub on 8/9/2023 and had a wonderful time. My waitress, Miranda, was exceptional. I ate alone and received the type of attention normally reserved for a 10 man party. Every drink came within 5 minutes and I was checked on multiple times throughout my meal. When you're out for a quick afternoon escape from your day job, this type of service is invaluable. I had the duck fat fried chicken, and it came with potato salad, coleslaw, and an assortment of pickled vegetables. The chicken was very good and reasonable in price. There was no greasy, flat aftertaste that you sometimes get with low quality fried chicken. The breading was crispy and, thank god, there wasn't too much of it (cough! Beans and Cornbread cough!) Was it as good as let's say a Gus's Fried Chicken? No, but Gus's isn't a bar and it isn't as affordable either. The potato salad was actually very unique and tasted as though there might've been some curry or turmeric in the recipe. I really liked it, and was glad it wasn't overly sweet or mushy like some potato salad in the area. The coleslaw was coleslaw. I really liked the pickled vegetables. The atmosphere here is extremely laid back. It's not a hipster overload like say, Bronx Bar. If you came here in the afternoon, you could easily get some work done and enjoy yourself due to the service and clientele. Thank you for the wonderful lunch Miranda and I'll be back!

Yelp
Double date night and we were looking for a spot to eat after coming from another bar. This was my friend's pick since we all have never been here before. Definitely a good spot since we were in the Midtown area for some well needed bar hopping. Let's get right to the food shall we. Duck Fat Fries: Definitely a perfect order for sharing. Perfect crisp and texture. Would totally order again. Deviled Eggs: It's one of those simple apps that I adore. It's one of my personal comfort food and I thank the kitchen staff for serving up a good Deviled Eggs. Buratta: That was the day I chose to eat a salad. Nothing says summer than a good buratta and watermelon. Nice touch with the vinaigrette dressing. I enjoyed this plate. Right,, I also had the gold rush and wash it all down and it was very good. Thanks to the bar keep. That was super delish. The place is definitely nice. It's unassuming and definitely something of a cozy spot. Something about this place says I'd like to come back and chill here again. Thank you so much for reading my review. I hope this helps with your decision making experience. Enjoy your awesome yelptastic day!!

Outstanding food, outstanding staff. This is a hidden gem near campus. Burrata was amazing.

Yelp
We were in the area for an event in the Wayne State District and decided that this was a good place to park. There is metered parking on the street so it was very convenient. When we got out of the car I quickly realized I was in front of the building I spent six years in! I went to grad school at WSU and got my doctorate in nursing there. I realized we were headed to the bar across the street where I spent many hours drinking away my anxiety about school and revising the chapters of my dissertation. I have not been back since 2013! I remember sitting on the patio drinking margaritas with my cohort on the last day of summer session and realizing (much too late) that I had a buzz and had one more class...which I had a presentation in. Haha. Ahh. The memories! To say this was a nostalgic visit would be an understatement. We walked in and the place had not really changed! It was full of college and grad school students and also a few professors. This place is a dive bar but has unique and delicious food offerings. The chef makes everything fresh and the menu changes daily for some of the items. I will be honest, they did not have a great variety of beers, or liquor. I was surprised they did not have apple whiskey. Seems like a staple and popular item to me, but they didn't. The bartender, however, was seasoned! He made his adaptation to a Washington Apple. He used apple pucker, Jamison and cranberry juice with some lime and it was sooo good. Tasted like a slurpee. Haah that can be trouble for me (not to mention he made it a double). He got Jamison vanilla and peach with diet coke. That was quite good! We ended up ordering poutine and it was delicious! I definitely recommend getting the poutine while you're there!! They are also known for their Won ton wraps. But I have a very delicate palate (I am a wimp and can't handle any heat to my food) so we passed on that. If you're looking for a dive bar in the area and are in the mood to be impressed with some delicious food, I highly recommend coming here.

Yelp
loved the Sunday breakfast. had my eggs poached and they were done perfection! Everything was wonderful. Generous fruit cup. Paul is a treat! will definitely be back.

Yelp
All items on the menu sound great. But execution is subpar at best. The steak and frites was supposed to be medium, but the cooks don't know what they're doing so the steak was grey and leathery. The fried chicken dinner was also dry and over cooked. It wasn't busy, so there's no excuses other than poorly trained staff.
google avatar

Yelp
We had a GREAT time. First time and the service, bar staff, and Paul. All ab-fab. Such a great spot and unreal happy hour. We will be back for sure!

Yelp
The boyfriend and I were looking for somewhere to get a decent meal last Saturday and a drink. We tried a few places, one was booked up, the other unexpectedly closed, and we ended up coming here. First off, this place is CRIMINALLY empty. For the quality of the food and the ambience, it should be hopping. I hope this review gets them some added and well deserved business. I ordered the Steak Frites, which was thinly sliced steak, carmelized onions, mushrooms and bleu cheese, with french fries. *chef's kiss delicious* My boyfriend had the chicken and the bite I took was very, very tasty. It looked like a nice selection of greens available for non meat eaters as well. There is a good selection of cocktails - craft and your regular bar drinks. There is plenty of seating; booths, small tables, large tables and a nice patio (I'm not a patio person, so can't say for sure, but it looked really nice!). Service was on point; attentive without being overbearing. Our waiter was great! Anyway, I will definitely be back to enjoy some of the other menu options - I especially want to try the poutine.

Yelp
Popped in here while biking around after leaving Dally in the Alley. I thought it looked cute and they had outdoor seating, so I was ready to give them a try. We were happy with our food, enjoyed the outdoor seating and the price was right. We sat outside with a pool as our view because of the apartment next door. Made for a fun atmosphere. I ordered the curry chicken salad sandwich with a cup of beet/potato/spinach soup. Both were really good, a bit too much bread for me and not quite enough chicken salad - but I still liked it a lot. The soup was interesting and filling. Some initial confusion with bringing me the wrong soup which then took a bit long to bring my correct soup, so I was getting annoyed when it finally showed up. Thankfully it was delicious, so that helped. My bf had a burger, fries and salad. He insisted I try the burger because of how good it was. He was correct, it was juicy, seasoned just right and cooked perfectly. The fries were really good, the salad was a bit blah. I had a Michigan mule which was a twist on a regular mule, he had rum & coke. The whole meal was $38, which was a bargain. If we would quit drinking when we're eating, we'd save a whole lot. :) We'll be back to try some more things, we really enjoyed our meal.

Yelp
Common Pub is on my personal list of best places in Detroit... best dive bar in Detroit in my opinion. I've never seen this place more than half full... love that it's low key. Why is this place so great to me? The food taste to cost ratio is just silly. A double burger (a very GOOD burger at that) with pickled tomatoes and (also good) duck fat fries is $9. You can't walk out of McDonalds for $9 anymore! But this ain't Mickey D's... this is what I'd like to call gourmet bar food. I've also had the wings and the wontons, both were good. The bartenders are super talented (and friendly) and they even have a jukebox. Not the most awesome selection on that jukebox but I don't know if they can control that. Anyway, if you want to eat out one night but you don't feel like dealing with finding a parking spot downtown or being around the big loud crowds, check this place out... I think you will like it.
google avatar

Yelp
Good food and people. They always look to surprise their eaters with new recipes that use their staple ingredients such as duck fat. Their seasonal drinks this year were outstanding and didn't skimp on the alcohol one bit. A great quiet place to be by yourself or to have out of towners try something low key that has high taste.
google avatar

Yelp
Great food, drink selection and atmosphere. Trivia was a bonus! We had Return of the Mac and Duck Fat Chicken, both were tasty.

Yelp
Decided to try this spot for restaurant week with a friend of mine. Restaurant week is wonderful = try more food = get hooked... The location is really close to Wayne State. We came on the weekend so parking was actually really easy. Surprisingly. The door is awesome but I didn't get a shot of it - you'll have to come see for yourself. The place is unassuming with an eclectic interior. A jack-a-lope, squirrel, crocodile, and deer decorate the place. Additionally there is a pac man, lord of the rings pinball, and darts. The bar is inviting, the lighting neither too dim or too bright. It is clean. The vibe is very casual. A few very cool chandeliers decorate one side. The restaurant is big with tables and booths. We sat at a booth and were promptly waited on. I opted for the beet and feta salad, hunan ribs with noodles and the bourbon pecan bacon pie. My friend got the wild mushroom arancini, curry tofu, and pear and ginger cake. We split the salads and I got to taste the arancini. The arancini tasted amazing- with just a sprinkle of lemon. The salad was lightly dressed and tasty. My main course was spicy! The noodles were salty - I shredded the meat and added it to the noodles and sprouts it was very good. It might have been a hair too spicy for me but I ate it anyway. Lastly I had the bourbon pecan pie. It was very rich and both my main course and the dessert paired well with the drink the bad lieutenant. It's a very powerful drink with lots of flavors. I also tried the winter Rita- with mezcal making it all smoky and definitely making it less summery. My friend got the cranberry mule and grapefruit smash. She liked both drinks. Said that her cranberry mule paired well with her dessert. And she ate every bite of her tofu curry. Want to come back again and try some other items on the menu! So close to my work!

Yelp
First time going to common pub and it left a bad impression. Sat down at the bar to grab lunch, 2 different employees saw me sitting there for about 10 minutes but I was never given a menu, water, and I wasn't even greeted. The restaurant was basically empty so I promptly left after being ignored.

Yelp
Very quirky space - with a pool! - staffed by resurfaced alums of Atlas Global Bistro: a much-missed fine dining establishment in Midtown till about 2012. I thought the Atlas folks had just up and disappeared, but I found them here recently, and the food really shows the hand of an experienced and creative chef. We've been here a couple of times; it's a pub menu. Of course there's fish and chips which is excellent. The duck fat french fries are a stand out. There is an excellent duck-fat fried chicken which we split and the beet salad with arugula which is bright and fresh. We sampled the chicken wings with two of the three available sauces -both creative departures from the standard. Many drink options, friendly staff and even friendlier locals. The folks from the apartment building upstairs tend to come and go talking of Michelangelo.

Yelp
First time here, but not my first time eating this food. Common Pub donated hundreds (maybe thousands?) of meals to the hospital where I work during COVID. I had meant to go visit in person, and I finally made it out. They had a decent lunch crowd (it looked like a lot of faculty and staff from the university were there), and although the ambiance isn't why you come, it felt lively. The pinball certainly helped, as I'm a pinball nerd. The service was great. Not overbearing, but always right on time. Drinks came out quickly and were strong, food came out hot and right as we finished our salads. The side salads were great as far as side salads go. I had the burger (got a double with cheese) and it was not your typical bar burger. Had good flavor and wasn't covered it condiments. Patties were fresh made and since they weren't covered in goo, you could really enjoy them. The fries were crispy and thin, just the way I like them. We will definitely be back.
google avatar

Yelp
Fish N Chips were BOMB. IDK about eating duck fat, so I ordered the fries with the veg oil option. The fish itself was high quality. The fries were a tad over cooked, but still tasty. I will be returning to try the Mac/potato salad!

Yelp
Dinner last week . Party of 3. Long wait to place order . After very long wait waiter came back to our table and said he "forgot" to place order and asked us to place our order again . Astonishingly bed performance (stoned?). Food is great

Yelp
Our first visit to Common Pub was fantastic! TheIr burger is not huge (good thing), a good price and tastes great. Very unique, nice flavors. The duck oil fried fries were amazing, and all others enjoyed their meals as well. Very attentive waitress. Doesn't hurt that they have an 80s video game console for 25 cents/play and a modern jukebox. We'll be back for sure!
google avatar

Yelp
Fries had a chalky taste. The burger was good (sorry was eaten by the time the photo was taken). The wings or wynns weren't the best in my opinion but the person I was with loved his. I got the Buffalo and he got BBQ. Overall it was ok.

Yelp
GOTTA READ THIS STORY: Got a couple carry outs here during the closure. Food was always good. I tried a spicy chicken sandwich and it was unreal. Only complaint was the customer service. I dont know what, but I must've Pd the Bartender off. I was talking to another female patron at the bar about work small talk. And when I goto ask about draft beer she offers a sample but then only hands the female a small sample cup. When it was me deciding on a beer. Then with a 80% full cup of beer she brings my sandwich in a carry out box all wrapped up in a bag for Xmas. Guess I was gonna drink the beer in their glass walking home? So I don't know if she had a crush on the other patron or what but even after I commented on the sandwich being amazing. She was like oh that's great. I don't normally comment or rant about restaurants. But shit just opened back up. It was nice being social. I know people don't talk in person anymore but at least make the post pandemic dining experience friendly. My 2 cents But get that damn spicy chicken sandwich! ;)

Tonia O.

Yelp
Unexpectedly tasty! Laidback vibe and good food. I took off a star because the wings could be crispier and they were out of a few drink/food options. I'm totally willing to go back!

Yelp
Went here for the first time on a Friday night and really enjoyed it, The food was first-rate and the drinks well made. Lots of little details in the dishes really make them sing. I've seen complaints of the service in other reviews but when we went both the waiter and bartender were great. One slight problem with my entree (a cold ingredient) was quickly corrected and apologized for. Little surprised the place wasn't more crowded on a Friday before a DFT movie given the quality of the food and reasonable prices. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
Maybe it was just not their night. Simon, the bartender, did a good job, and I was able to get served their fried chicken pretty late, but it wasn't anything special at all. The fried chicken I've heard so much about was decent, but I'd give it a C-minus overall. I was honestly more impressed with the pickled vegetables served alongside it. I got the half chicken with their macaroni potato salad, and overall the word "dry" comes to mind, especially about the breast...it was just overcooked. The dark meat can withstand being overcooked a bit more, but even that was a bit past. Still: everything got eaten, as I was hungry. For $19 out the door, though, it comes up short. The place itself is fine, and Simon's service was pretty good...but if that's their fried chicken, it's not that great a deal.
google avatar

John S.

Yelp
Really cool atmosphere, trendy menu and a juke box! Had lunch here today and was pleasantly surprised. The burgers are cooked in a "California Smash" style fashion with pickled tomatoes and a house sauce that sets this sandwich apart from others... The fries are hand cut and cooked in Duck Fat, a healthy alternative to the usual oil. let me say.... wow... delicious. The establishment is set on the main floor of a apartment building that was erected in the 1920's with plenty of windows separated by only a sidewalk to the street. A delightful experience to say the least.

Yelp
I really liked this place! I went with a friend on an early Saturday evening and we were seated right away. The vibe was very relaxed but the decor was fun and I felt immediately comfortable there. It wasn't uptight at all. We each ordered a single burger which was super good, and only $5! One of the better burgers I've had in a while. I also ordered the poutine of the day, which was chicken curry fries. Man. My only complaint about this place is that the poutine changes daily so I'll never know if I can get those fries again. They were so good! I want to come back and try pretty much everything on their menu. My first experience was basically perfect.

Yelp
Great place for lunch and a drink. Found this place in a whim searching for places near the DIA. Cute atmosphere with fun outdoor dining area. Burger was sooo tasty. Kale salad and chicken was excellent! Highly recommend!

Yelp
The food lacked in flavor and appeal. I ordered the corndogs and ramen, neither of them seemed to have much flavor.

Great place with a bunch of great staff. I like their unique food and their prices are very fair. A very relaxing atmosphere.

Yelp
I tried Common Pub on the recommendation of a friend who knows that I am a fiend for duck. Common seems to feature duck in a lot of their dishes, whether the meat itself or frying other items in duck fat. Sadly most restaurants do not avail themselves of the gift from nature that is duck, so I love seeing it featured so prominently here. We shared the Duck Rangoon, which were basically deep fried wontons stuffed with goat cheese, scallions and duck confit, and served with a lovely orange sauce (it was delicious, but***). We also tried the cold peanut noodles (delicious, but***), and ended with the duck-fried chicken. Everything was tasty, and I will certainly be back. My only complaint, and it is because I am a sissy with stomach problems, ***several of the dishes were rather spicy without the menu indicating that they are so. This makes it tough for those of us with delicate, sissified digestive systems. I will be careful to ask questions next time to determine which dishes I can enjoy without suffering for it later. All in all this is a lovely jewel in Midtown and I look forward to dining by the pool when summer finally comes.

Yelp
Highly recommended! Our bartender, Kyle, was top-notch. The food and drinks were great, and everything was priced extremely well. We've driven by this place many times, so we were well-overdue to stop and check it out--and I'm very glad we did. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Went in on a Saturday afternoon for brunch and there was no wait! Waitress was super friendly. I ordered the red flannel hash and it was amazing! My niece ordered the noodle bowl and was very satisfied with her order as well. We also ordered mimosa; for $5 they give you a lot! Enjoyed my brunch. You need to try this place :-)

Yelp
When you arrive, you might think you've stumbled into a college hang-out. You might be right, but a college hang-out with adults and reallyreally good food! The service is prompt and the bartenders know what they're doing. At first, I thought the number items that have some connection to duck fat was unique. Then I tasted the duck fat fries... extra crispy on the outside, perfectly cooked on the inside and totally addictive. The fish and chips are delicious; hubby loved the fried chicken and ramen fish bowl. The Vietnamese scotch egg is unique and delicious. The menu is concise yet has a lot to choose from. A new favorite restaurant (almost) in the neighborhood!
google avatar

Samantha W.

Yelp
What a gem! My date chose this place because it was near the DIA. We loved the food! It wasn't an extravagant menu but there were fantastic options. We both chose soba noodle bowls with protein. We were a bit ahead of the dinner crowd so it was quiet. The sun shone in the windows and the ambiance was comfortable for visiting. I would return here and try one of their craft drinks.

Yelp
Relaxing vibe. I've been there a few times. Service has definitely improved since opening. The bartender was courteous and attentive -- after asking and checking my ID, he acknowledged an underaged drinker probably wouldn't be ordering a Negroni. Very true. Here's the main reason why I'm writing a review: best fish and chips ever, and a huge serving. If you don't want your fries cooked in duck fat, you can choose vegetable oil (suitable for vegans/vegetarians). Give the fish a try. "The secret is in the batter," I was told (or something like that). A drawback, I feel they don't have enough vegan and vegetarian options. Although I'm a pescatarian, I do try to eat a lot of vegan foods. Plus this is not a place my vegan friends ever want to go to; so that's business lost. Vegetarians can get by. So yes, I will be going back...

Yelp
The staff are all incredibly friendly. Garrett, one of the owners, is engaged and cares about his customers. The food is absolutely top notch, and they have a diverse menu consisting of everything from pho to burgers. Zach, the chef, has a diverse repetoire of cuisines he pulls from and that is reflected in the menu and the final products. This is a really easy place to strike up a conversation with the guy next to you at the bar, and there is a fantastic patio area to enjoy during the warmer months. This place is a gem in Midtown.

Yelp
The best part of Common Pub was the service & staff. We came with a large group, and the service was outstanding. The food choices were great, with plenty of options and everything having a bit of a twist. The flavor was great. The serving size was extremely generous. Unfortunately - despite not even eating half of my meal, having only one drink all night, trying just one wing, one bite each of three appetizers, and hydrating with water all night - my stomach was extremely upset about an hour after I ate, and remained so the rest of the night. Not great, since I had a six a.m. alarm for my conference the next day.

Yelp
Soooo...this establishment has a huge problem. They employ a waiter that is rude to me and my friends every time we eat at Common. Why should we pay to be treated like garbage? Note to all customers considering this pub: If you do decide to go there, sit at the bar. This waiter only works the dining room. Trust me...you don't want him to wait on you. He's awful.

Yelp
Very innovative menu, I would put it in the gastro pub league. This time I had the lamb Curry noodle, which was very tasty and fresh. Last time I have the fried liverwurst sandwich which blew my mind, you must try that! Before that was the salad with a generous portion of grilled tuna, also excellent. They have about 6-8 Michigan craft beer on tap, and not the usual suspects. Very friendly bartenders add to the laid-back, neighborhood feel. It's easy to miss this place from the road, but don't. Plenty of street parking, check it out.

Yelp
Industrial minimalist interior, large bar w seats, darts in the corner and good food on the table. While we were there early (before 5 pm) after a Hilberry play, I bet it's a great place to just hang out in the later evening as there is plenty of room to mill about near the bar and by the darts. We enjoyed our food which consisted of a Greenbush Red Ale and a 1/2 Fried Chicken for the hubby. He liked his selection. I chose sides for my meal starting with the Wyngz (appetizer and they graciously gave me half General Tso and the orange glazed), the macaroni potato salad and the veggie of the day (snap peas with seasoning). All of my selections were delicious and brought home wings and 1/2 the pea pods. Total, pre tip was $39. Enjoy the experience. We did. And yes, the overhead lights in the open area leading back to restrooms were still flickering. Perhaps a draw on power by something happening in the kitchen or bar? http://detroit.eater.com/2017/1/26/14358430/common-pub-new-detroit-restaurant-photos

Yelp
Have not been here in about 6 months, because of so many changes. $.50 charge for carry-out order, no Renee-nae, best sandwich they had and menu filled with over priced food that tastes mediocre. Was a fan over a year ago, now I am a detractor. Step up your game, Common Pub, you are across the street from a public University.

Yelp
What a hidden gem! Delicious food, with a variety for all foodies--vegan, vegetarian, omnivores. Had a wonderful dinner. I had the lemon drop martini and my date had the Smokey old fashioned--well prepared. I would definitely eat here again

Yelp
This was our first visit, and we came based on the reviews...especially the extraordinary positive responses from the owners/managers to previous complaints. That showed us that this was a place that deeply cares about its customers. We were more than rewarded for the trip. Our food was amazing -- simple and yet delicious. The space is wonderful, sunny, and inviting. And the service was TOP NOTCH! Our waiter was Emeka and he was awesome -- all smiles, good advice, and good service. Not only will we be back, but this is tops on our go-to brunch list for now. Thank you!

Yelp
I've had most of the menu and it is all better than expected. Probably the best fried chicken I've ever had. Ever. And the poutine changes and all 3 that I've had so far were awesome. I used to think chili and cheese were the only things you could put on fries. I was wrong. The staff is awesome too. Just go there and eat everything.
