"Commons is a very lovely place to drink good coffee, take calls, and generally be anywhere other than your own home with your overflowing laundry basket. From 9am, people arrive in numbers and you can’t blame them. Not when the walls of this Old Street coffee shop are the sort of clay pink that subconsciously plonks you back in the womb. You might be holding a double shot espresso and resolutely sitting on mute in a Zoom call, but the warm, calming illusion is strong. This is surely one of London’s most aspirational morning locations. There isn’t much we don’t want to try and cram in our bag: the dainty, raspberry and cream-topped canelé, the glam flower arrangement, the chic, burnt orange mugs. First time at commons at Old Street Works. I ordered a Matcha Latte and Plain Croissant 🥐 nice and fresh. I will be back soon. Highly recommend this cafe.

Fabulous coffee shop. Warm and welcoming. Plenty of space and power outlets for those that want to work from here. The coffee is delicious and well made. Tried the Coco and ginger latte, which was quite different and very yum. Their pastries are some of the best I have tasted. Their service is fast and friendly.Well worth the visit. Will definitely go back.

I work in the building, and we’re so lucky to have such a great coffee shop right on our doorstep. The staff are incredible, always friendly and welcoming...and the coffee is excellent! Hayley, Kat, Julia, and Seungmi are all amazing, especially given how busy it gets in there! If you want great coffee at a reasonable price, served with genuine smiles, this is the place to go.

Everything is great there. The staffs are friendly, and the coffee is superb. It's just that the cakes and cookies are so disappointing. Miso cookies have no taste other than eating pure sugar and the brownies are the same. They used to have canele which were good but they stopped stocking them. I wish they have more interesting and tasty stuff that goes with their nice drinks.

Best flat white in the neighborhood and the carrot cake is divine. Have been coming here fairly consistently since they opened and have always been greeted in a friendly manner by staff. Lots of seating options and excellent WiFi for WFH days. Beautiful interior and a fresh weekly flower display that’s absolutely lovely (and picture-perfect, as you can see from my collection of them!). If I could make only one suggestion it would be to bring back serving a date with each cup of coffee - it was such a nice touch :)

My daily coffee spot! Lovely atmosphere inside the store, friendly staff who take the effort to remember your name if you're a regular and have conversations with you. Really cute custom cup holders (they do the art for them every day and let people submit their own art!). Best of all, a cute display of pets people have bought in they've photographed. Thanks for making my work lunch even better 😋 EDIT (2026): Updated my rating from 5* across the board to reflect recent changes It seems there has been a shift in management/staff. A big part of the coffee experience is the atmosphere from a cafe itself, good coffee you can in most cafes. However, with the old baristas all seeming to have left the vibes are completely off. Everything feels extremely muted now, there's no warm air of welcoming and discussions happening. Last few times I went it was rather quiet. It's a shame the old baristas have left as they were the core to the store itself in my opinion. From the coffee cups, good vibes, conversations happening, its what separated commons from other stores across old street. Now, I feel less obligation to come here every day as I can find pretty good coffee in all of these stores.

I'm a coffee lover, and I like buying coffee from small businesses. As I came across this place, I said I needed to try it. The atmosphere was really nice but I was disappointed to see that the staff didn't pay me too much attention to me. I've asked the girl at the till if I can pay cash, and she said yes, but it will help if u have the right amount. That wasn't a problem as I like to give big tips to small coffee shops. As i was waiting for my order, two other people came in, and I've noticed to my shock that they were welcome in with a much nicer and friendlier attitude than the one I received. That actually made me sad for the day, and I didn't enjoy that coffee at all (felt like was a weak coffee and the sandwich was average(all because of the staff interaction)) I do understand that locals will receive a different treatment, but I wasn't expecting them to ask me about my chickens or if my guinea pigs are fluffy. Just a smile is not that much to ask
