Richard Branson’s Hotel Ribbon-Cutting Appearance in NOLA Prompts Backlash - Eater New Orleans

"The restaurant, Commons Club, is part of the Virgin Hotels New Orleans and shares the same name as the restaurants at Virgin properties in Nashville, Chicago, and Dallas. The food and beverage program is led by Alex Harrell, a well-known local chef who’s been at the helm of kitchens such as Sylvain, Angeline, and Hotel Peter and Paul." - Clair Lorell

This was a first time going and there was definitely a cute, cozy vibe for a Saturday Late Brunch. Scheduling a reservation however wasn't the best experience for just 2 ppl but thankfully we went late enough and there was some space available. The music a little loud but not to where you can't hear the other person from you. A place to go to start the afternoon party for sure if you're trying to keep things light at the beginning. A little miscommunication amongst staff with regards to food allergies but our server was gracious and apologetic and took the utmost care after that to ensure our safety. The food was delightful with tea time but truth be told, I have an appetite and everything little was not going to cut it. The pastries though were really good, especially the lemon bar. Now the burger was cooked to perfection and my friend loved the aioli. Wish we had gotten the fries.

All I can say is that the Dirty Bombay Sapphire after work hit the spot after a stressful day!! Enter the main lobby, got up the stairs and then go to the right. The bar is extremely open and the bar tender was attentive. Drinks were strong but balanced. Well done, chaps!

Google
Drinks were great. Didn’t have any food, but the space was clean and well decorated. The servers were courteous and quick. Nice little after-work watering hole.

Came for the Mariah Carey pop up bar and was sorely disappointed by the experience. We were not guaranteed a table despite paying $140, and they are not even playing her music.

We stayed at the Virgin hotel and they have this absolute gem. To make it even better, we had Danno as a bartender 2 nights and he was honestly one of the best things about our trip. We had so much fun chatting and getting drinks at the bar. He is really a top notch bartender. So glad to have been here when he worked. Some people just stand out. This guy makes it feel like you are talking to an old friend. AND he makes great drinks.

Yelp
I've only been to Commons Club twice, the latest visit being New Year's Eve. Let me say, their 007 themed NYE party was a blast and this is a fantastic spot to gather and celebrate with others! The atmosphere created was so uniquely festive and made for a memorable way to ring in the new year. The staff working here from the greeters at the door to bartenders and those bussing tables were all outstanding and very customer service oriented. A special mention that Nicole, AKA "woman in red," was lovely and very responsive to questions I had. I wasn't expecting much as far as food, because our tickets read premium bar and appetizers. However, the food was plentiful, delicious and there were plenty of options to choose from that would certainly please any palate. I would love to return and try the afternoon tea and stay at the Virgin Hotel. (I'm a Kimpton member so we have typically stayed nextdoor st the Monaco). The decor in the Commons club is very interesting unique too and made me want to explore every corner of this place. Compared to other Chicsgo NYE celebrations I've been to, this one felt like an exclusive private party. Fun place!

Yelp
GORGEOUS restaurant/bar inside the Virgin Hotel, 2nd floor. I'm obsessed with the styling/decorating of this place! Super-trendy but yet everyone is very nice. I'd say the food is a bit pretentious, but the people are not! We stayed at the Virgin and upon checkout were given a couple comp cards for food (due to a couple minor issues in our room) so we decided to eat quick before we went out shopping for the rest of the day. I am SO GLAD that we did because this place has such a warm, comfortable vibe to it! The food is super-fancy, and I am not. So i had a bit of a struggle to find something i would like, but ultimately ended up going with the avocado toast (customized a little bit due to my pickiness) and a butternut squash soup. The avocado toast was DELICIOUS and i highly recommend it! I wasn't a fan of the soup, but that's totally a preference thing. it was too fancy for me, i like a traditional, thick butternut squash soup. This was lighter and a little more watery, but also had fresh lemongrass, a chunk of squash in it, etc. and some of the flavors were just a bit too much for my sensitive and basic palette. So i didn't eat that. Our server was fantastic. She kept coming to check on us, was very prompt and friendly. She was good at her job. They were in the midst of preparing for their Saturday boozy tea, so most of the tables were reserved and setup adorably. If you like a fancier, grown-up palette mixed with a beautiful atmosphere, this is the place for you. If you do come here, make sure you hit the washroom as it's adorable as well. If you're interested in the boozy tea, they only do it on Saturdays and you have to have a reservation - sounds like it's a popular event!

Yelp
I am a big fan of this particular cocktail lounge located in the Virgin Hotel on Wabash & Randolph. Located on the 2nd floor so you can walk up the steps and be welcomed to a very nice space. Very sexy cocktail lounge vibe going on here. Bartenders here are nice and service is good. You can come for an after work drink as well as a couple of light snacks before you make your way home. You can also grab a cozy seat and get some work done or throw a nice networking mixer as the space definitely works for that. The food here is very good as I have tried the Commons Burger and the Caramelized Soy Glazed wings. Those wings though!!! The drinks are of course very good as well! They do very good old fashioneds, manhattans and gimlets. There is a Happy Hour menu thats going on here from 3-6pm that has wine by the glass and select cocktails for $8. Those wings are on the happy hour menu as well. As I mentioned, I really like this place and its good for events, solo drinking and taking that special person that you swiped right to on a first date here if you work in the loop.

Yelp
The Commons Club is an adorable lounge area on the Virgin Hotel's second floor. Virgin hosts their happy hour for hotel guests there from 5-6pm, but you can also pop in for some eats or a drink throughout the day. When I went, there were a bunch of people also just hanging with their bags and getting some work done. Free WiFi ftw! My friends and I went for their Upside Down Afternoon Tea which is served on the weekends from 2-5pm. The space itself is just filled with tons of interesting items - great photo ops abound! But for my friends and I, they set the table up in the most cute fashion ever! It was the perfect afternoon tea environment. Not to mention it's the best afternoon tea deal IN THE CITY. For endless tea and a tray of delicious tea bites, it's $25 per person. Way less than other city tea options like the Drake. That being said, it is a more casual possibility, less froofy, less fancy, but more fun! Not only can you do the $25pp regular tea option but they do boozy teas! It's called Upside Down Tea for this reason specifically. If you want the liqs, you can do one boozy or champagne teapot for $40, unlimited boozy teapot for 2 hours for $60 or unlimited all boos for 2 hours for $80. In their regular tea selections, I was able to try the Moonlight Jasmine (hand tied green tea with jasmine flower & medium caffeine) and the Gingerbread Dream Rooibos (rum barrel aged South African rooibos blend with ginger and vanilla, caffeine free and truly smelled like gingerbread)! I thoroughly enjoyed both and they stayed on top of refilling out water for the tea quite well. The bites were really great ranging from savory to sweet with bacon wrapped dates, PB&J mini donut, cheese & meat skewer, Salmon Cracker, Fourth of a BLT, churro, scone w/lemon custard, a berry parfait type of thing, mushroom & cheese mini quiche and a jam filled pastry. Ten little bites and it ended up being more than enough. We had one lady in our party that did not eat pork and they actually brought out an avocado toast & another jam toast for her so that was nice. The best things for me were the bacon wrapped dates & the PB&J donut! Noms! Everything at the Upside Down Tea was incredibly cute, food was tasty and it was a great value! I'd definitely recommend it for a low-key, chill afternoon tea option.

Yelp
We were a group of ~6 looking for a spot to drink and chill after a show nearby. We came to the Virgin hotel to go to their rooftop bar but immediately left because there wasn't enough seating. On our way down we were lucky enough to stop by at the Commons club on the second floor and it was perfect! It was a snowy day so it wasn't too crowded and we got seated in this really cool lounge area that would probably make for nice Instagram photos. The service was super friendly and not pretentious. The drinks were pricey but what you would expect for a hotel bar. They were really tasty! The server was nice enough to comp one of my friend's drinks that came out a bit later than everyone else's. We had a great time and would definitely come back when it's not crowded again.

Yelp
After a tiring flight over and walking through the below freezing temperature, I decided to check this place out. I proceeded to the second floor and sat myself at the bar area to get a refresher. I thought the environment was nice, though the people sitting around me seemed to be staff members. They all knew each other and talked back and forth. The bartender was friendly and made my drink of choice to perfection. It was not too sweet, and well balanced. This was the best way to get warm before I headed out again into the cold.

Yelp
classy cocktail bar in a nice setting. I had one of the strawberry cocktails. I felt very manly doing so because it was in a sophisiticated environment. reminds me of the bar at the plaza in NY. Good staff, prompt service. They have a nice little loungy ( is that a word) room off the main entrance that had slices of americana like a nice puzzle collection from Mad Magazine and Candy on the table. Mad Magazine and Candy. That makes my day any day

Yelp
This comfortable, stylish lounge is in the Virgin Hotel, up the winding stairs to the second floor. Highly recommend for pre-show dinner, appetizers, drinks, in the theater district. It's a couple blocks walk to the Chicago Theater, Goodman, Schubert, etc. We recently got snacks at 6 on a Thursday before a show, and we easily made it to the theater with plenty of time to spare. So, they're flexible. If you're in a hurry, their salads and appetizers will satisfy. If you've got time to linger and are hungry, check out the grilled octopus, seafood ravioli, grilled broccoli, and cocktails. I had a interesting and very refreshing, fruity cocktail with guava, gin, honey shrub, and the right amount of Aperol to give it the balance of bitters I adore. We reserved, and were seated in a semi-circle, crushed velvet couch. Great for hand-holding and sharing plates. I think we a have a new go-to spot before curtains.

Yelp
This place is for the grown and sexy. No kids allowed! This place is sexy as F&$k!!!!!!! This was my first time here and I plan to return again. My girls and I truly enjoyed the drinks, the food, and the ambience. We stopped in before going to see a performance at the chicago theatre. Food and apps were delish, especially the wings. They were juicy on the inside and almost glazed candy like on the outside. I just wish they were bigger. The cauliflower rice is a must. It's a showstopper. Fresh, tangy and an unexpected taste explosion. Loved it. Wanted a trough of it. For real. Drinks were good and reasonably priced for happy hour. Again, go and get your sexy

Yelp
We stopped by here on Christmas Eve unexpectedly when we had (or so we thought) extra time for a pickup/rental car at O'Hare and wanted to grab a bite to eat. At around 7:45 our usual haunts were closed, but we figured a hotel bar might be open. We had come to the Virgin Hotel a while back for a Siskel Theater post-film discussion. The decor was awesome, the views were great too. It was quiet but not empty. We had a small table and two very comfortable chairs. I had a beer(craft, I forget which kind, but pretty good) and we shared chicken wings. They were sweet yet savory, very good, and the service was awesome. My sister sat in the 'bird cage' while I went to the restroom (it's marked Birds/Blokes, Brit-speak for 'Women/Men'. The 'cage' is a round, wiry structure with a bench for sitting. So cute and creative!

Yelp
Complimentary happy hour from 5pm-7pm everyday! YAAAS! Drinks: - Lavender Mule - Two Mamas Tambien - The Rhu-Barbie The food portions were smaller, so I don't recommend sharing appetizers for large groups. - Burrata (tasted like regular strawberries and tart yogurt) - Coconut Shrimp Toast (my favorite, but could've been seasoned better) - Brussels Sprouts ( a little bland) Dessert: Bless yourself with their chocolate dome! It's so light and creamy; yet not overly sweet. Super perfect to share between 3 people!

Yelp
I stopped here yesterday for their Upside Down Tea Party that they have on weekends from 2-5pm. I came here with a Gilt City offer with a steep discount, but I would have no qualms paying full price here - it's definitely worth it. So the deal is you get a pot of boozy tea and some light bites for about $45 per person. I've been here twice and both times I've seen birthday parties, bachelorette parties, etc here for the tea - it's perfect for that type of occasion. Some people get real into it and dress up with gloves and fascinators. I'll take any excuse to feel fancy. They have lots of fun tea choices, some hot and some cold. I always choose the cold option because hot tea + booze will put me to sleep. The tea offerings change up month to month. Both times I've been here I ended up ordering tea with gold specks in it, which I love because it looks like you're drinking a galaxy. Everything I've tried here has been delicious! My only complaint is in the light bites. Everything is so so good but there needs to be more of a balance between the sweets and savories. You're already getting a lot of sugar with your drink, so the amount of sweets on the plate is too much.

Yelp
A perfectly located hotel lounge with beautiful interior and friendly staff. Arrived after work, to finish more paperwork, and found ourselves growing increasingly hungry. The large communal table was perfect for multitasking. Wide and long enough for a number of groups to be seated at. Cavatelli (Maine crab): 4.5 Grains: 4.5 Mushrooms: 4 Cabernet (Alexander valley, CA): 4 Will return!

Yelp
The space is lovely, elegant high ceilings and cozy seating areas. I've been once for a drink with a friend who was staying there. They have a complimentary happy hour for hotel guest! But, I've been twice for their Upside Down Tea Party! They change the theme each month, the first time I went it was an Alice and Wonderland theme and it was amazing, one of the tea's was purple and had a shiny natural particle in it that made it look like a galaxy! The second time I went was in January and the there was healthy, not as exciting ha, though the server was super nice and brought me a cup of the discontinued tea after I said I was sad to miss out on it. The tea party is Saturday and Sunday 2-5, but I think they are a little flexible with this. Each guest gets a tea pot with boozy tea and about 10 small bites. Great way to celebrate a special occasion! Some people go all out and dress up with fascinators and heels, but its definitely not necessary.
google avatar

Yelp
Their "Upside Down Tea Party" already hints that it would not be a traditional high tea, but we definitely did not expect to have spicy and Mexican themed bites with our afternoon tea... Seeing "Upside Down" I was expecting fun, innovative, or an Alice and Wonderland theme treats. The bites (that took 30 minutes to come out) included mini empanadas, a nacho bite, spicy mango cream puff, margarita macaron, churros, tres leches, and a few other items. These definitely did not compliment the taste of any tea on the menu. The tea selection was small, and was also not as flavorful as it could have been. I think they could have added more tea leaves to the pot. The price was $35 per person (not including tax and gratuity). I think it was pricey for what was offered. Unlike the The Drake, it was not unlimited bites, and the atmosphere was just eh? Also, the music played were top hits from the 80s-current songs. It literally went from Whitney Houston's I Will Always Love You, to Destiny's Child, to Adele. I love top hits, but this was just so inconsistent and weird lol. I don't think I would return for the afternoon tea, but it seems like a decent place to bring your laptop and just hang out.

Yelp
Stopped in The Common Club for lunch and to escape the St. Patrick's day crowd. I had the green river cocktail and the corn beef and cabbage sandwhich. Both were good.

Yelp
I enjoyed this restaurant very much. I was VERY hungry but that doesn't usually bias me too much! I was with colleagues who wanted to try the Cauliflower Rice (not my first choice!) and Beet Salad (who, WHO doesn't love beets?!?)... both were perfectly cooked, seasoned and served. For my main dish I got the Shrimp Croquettes. They were delicious though quite a small plate. Luckily my trusty server warned me of that (after exclaiming my hangriness) so I also ordered the cheese plate which was fab and rounded out my dinner! My colleagues had the Tagliatelle and Burger. They said both were delish and prepped well. The burger would have had one too many toppings on it for my taste (I'm a purist). For dessert.... a lovely strawberry rhubarb cobbler and beignets stuffed with strawberry cream. Both were good but tbh didn't blow me away... I may have stuck with my rule of not eating dessert unless it's chocolate Either way... all was delish and wonderfully serviced, reasonably prices and perfectly situated on the 2nd floor of my fab British hotel! And yes, I was far too hangry to take ANY pics. Oops!

Yelp
We were at The Commons Club to celebrate our first wedding anniversary with a boozy afternoon tea service. The tea and cocktails were amazing, so much so that I don't even remember the food. The ambiance was cool, especially the corner booths. The service was attentive and made our special day quite special.

Yelp
I had the opportunity of Visiting the Commons club about a month ago and being out of Vegas I always have a Higher Standard when trying new places. All I can say is, this place is FANTASTIC. The food, the specialty drinks and most of all, the SERVICE all at the top of the charts. I highly recommend you visit this place. You wont be Disappointed.

Yelp
The Commons Club is a cute lounge/restaurant inside of the Virgin Hotel. I've been several time's now. I've eaten here once and wasn't that impressed with the food (moreso the price/portion size), but it's a nice place to grab a cocktail. I love the vibe of the room with the huge round couch. It reminds me of Austin Powers with the decor, but has always been a good time. I went recently to celebrate their 1 year anniversary with $1 cocktails. Great way to celebrate and I really like the vibe of this hotel and the restaurants.

Yelp
Excellent service, Amazing Decor, and just all around a really awesome place. Best around for sure. Friendly staff, good location. food is great, drinks are better. and free wifi

Yelp
Came here three night straight! Special thanks to the server, Zachary! I had a great time spending at this bar. The drinks and food were so delicious. Zachary and other servers made sure I was having the best time at the bar. People here are super nice. There are many people coming to the bar to socialize and hang out with their friends! The foods I ordered was unique and tasty! I never tasted such an amazing sauce for most the food I ordered at the bar. I would definitely recommend the Japanese pretzel dip and chicken mustard.

Yelp
The Commons Club is a perfect place to start an evening. My wife and I liked getting a drink at The Commons Club before heading to supper. The cocktail list is a great combination of classic and creative. The atmosphere and music are very cool. The service is excellent. It is just a fun place to grab a drink and start your evening.

Yelp
Went for a late lunch after check in. Limited list on the menu but did not disappoint! Burger was epic, cauliflower app was so good. The chef here is really creative and fun mixing flavors. Burrata was also really delicious.

Yelp
Came here for restaurant week (apparently their first time holding it too!) Got the shrimp as the first dish and it packed more heat than I had expected it had basically a papaya salad with it and definitely had Thai food influences. Second dish I got the duck with persimmon which was my favorite dish for their restaurant week. The confit ball had a nice crunch to it on the outside with the pistachios and the leg (?) was cooked to perfection. Also had some interesting sauces all around, one was slightly tarte and almost yogurt-y and the other was sweet, but slightly spiced. Also had some pine nuts which was a good different texture as well. I had a little bit of my friend's truffle pasta dish as well which was good, I'm a huge fan of truffle and the earthy taste to it and it was cooked a perfect al dente. Finally for dessert I had the foie gras. I thought it was interesting as a dessert, definitely decadent, too heavy personally for me. I always think I'm going to like foie gras, but I don't and this is the dish that made me decide that. I did like the honey comb that they toasted though and it made it really tasty, but unfortunately I didn't enjoy the main part of this dish with the foie gras! Definitely an interesting take on dessert. I did have a bit of my friend's chocolate dessert which I liked much better. Chocolate three way and some passionfruit mousse (?) which was nice and tart and pairs perfectly well with chocolate. Definitely had some good vibes at the restaurant with interesting decor (building blocks and a curious George car) to round it out with a whimsical feel.

Yelp
Went here for a friends 40th bday party, or to be honest, I would never have thought about coming here. I was pleasantly surprised however. The food was really good; unique dishes with top of the line ingredients. The drinks were unusual, and stood out from your normal neighborhood bar. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. It is on the expensive side, but what isn't in the city. We had our own private room, and a designated server. After we finished in our own room, we went upstairs to the rooftop bar and finished the night off up there. I would recommend this place to people looking for a classy (but not too classy) and fun evening out with friends.

Yelp
While staying at the Virgin Hotel... we absolutely had to check out the Commons Club - I mean lets think about this logically.... daily complimentary happy hour for hotel guests from 7-8... how can any reasonable individual say not to that? Ummmm yeahhh... no one had to twist my arm or tell me twice! :) The Commons Club located on the 2nd Floor of the Virgin Hotel is a very classy/swanky ultra modern lounge-like bar area... and right next door the the bar there is a more relaxing sitting area similar in appearance to a library with all sorts of games to play, while indulging in you adult beverages and sitting in comfy chairs/couches. I can't say enough good things about the bartenders here... A-M-A-Z-I-N-G SERVICE ...they truly get it! Please remember to tip these individuals even when you are there for complimentary happy hour ... if you tip them well they will absolutely make sure your glass is always full!! ONCE AGAIN.... TAKE CARE OF YOUR BARTENDERS PEOPLE ... this is merely common sense when in the commons club :) The bartenders here are not just bartenders... they are more like mixologist - they make superb cocktails... and they were all very sociable and super cool to hang out with! If you are a hotel guest... you have to check this place out - it will be slammed on the weekends around 7ish .... I hope you enjoy it as much as I did during my stay at the Virgin!

Yelp
The tipsy tea was so on point and we devoured the amazing snacks like monsters and had great spiked teas and just overall a great lady date.

Yelp
Good eats. Good vibes. Good drinks. and great service. Truly, our waitress Mackie was the actual reason we went back rather than venturing out to explore nearby dining options. When service is that good it keeps you coming back.

Yelp
Great place to have a drink when you are in the loop. It is a lounge with comfortable couches and not too loud where you can't hear your own conversation. I just wish it was a little darker inside. The deliver the bill as a bookmarker in a book. Interesting touch!
google avatar

Yelp
I work in the Loop, and am always in search of new spots to try for happy hours, client dinners, and dates. I love the Virgin Hotel, and while I have sipped cocktails at Cerise, brunched at Miss Ricky's and grabbed coffee to go from Two Zero Three, I cannot speak more highly of The Commons Club. It really takes the best parts of all the three spots and combines it into an elegant, trendy and fun place to grab drinks, have dinner or just relax and work. Finally, the transition to a fine dining experience has really sold me on this spot and if you have any doubts please read further! Atmosphere: It's hard to describe in one word the atmosphere of The Commons Club. As the name suggests, the decor is somewhat uncommon; unique novels line shelves, large loungey areas abound with board games, and large lux curtains section off the dining area. The bar itself very open, perfect for eyeing cute strangers and people watching. Food: As I mentioned before, the restaurant just moved to fine dining and the menu is incredible. I have tried a few different menu option but wanted to take a moment to sing the praises of the Wild Mushroom dish that I experienced. It wasn't just delicious it was a very unique dish, a far cry from the typical burrata appetizer one might usually order. Drinks: They make a mean Mezcal Old-Fashioned, and any bar that can nail that cocktail is in my opinion a great spot for a craft beverage. Service: Having worked in the service industry, I always appreciate staff that is not just observant and knowledgable of the dishes and drinks but genuinely engaged and excited! The service here is definitely exemplary of this. Flavia was excellent the last time I stopped in! Personally, when I am stuck between deciding on a menu item I generally just ask the server what they recommend. Every dish Flavia suggested was incredible! Not to mention, she was fun to talk to and had a great personality :) Overall, I highly recommend the Commons Club for dinner, drinks, a date or just a casual meet up. It's currently restaurant week so if you can get in for their dinner the menu looks exceptional.

Yelp
What an amazing meal we had at the Commons Club in Virgin Hotel. I had the restaurant week 3 course menu with drink pairing. $33 for three courses and drink pairings for $22 such a great value. The sake juice box was awesome. First course of Maitake mushrooms with soft cooked egg was amazing. Super flavorful with a touch of heat. The second course of Duck with persimmon sunchoke and Farro was out of this world. The Duck was cooked perfectly and the Duck confit was phenomenal. and finally the dessert. The best course of the night in my mind. Foie Gras Old Fashioned. Wow. What a dish. Superbly constructed and plated beautifully. Can't even describe it. Just go and order it. You will not be disappointed. What a night!

Yelp
Nice bar. I am here for a post-conference reception. The event paid for an open bar so the price is right. Very nice decor and layout. Can't speak about the prices. Enjoyed a couple of Bell's beers on tap.

Yelp
We went here for a birthday party a year ago for Upside down tea and it was great. We came here a few weeks ago, and our waitress screwed up our order and gave us all wrong teas. I'm not sure if we ever got the right ones, and when we ordered another one, we got the one we didn't want because the order was messed up. No apologies from her or the management. Told us also that extra bites couldn't be provided. Won't come back.

Yelp
I was referred to this restaurant as I was staying in the hotel. There are several food options available in the area. This is very pricey and the services need improvement. I was seated where I waited 5 minutes before being waited. My waitress was more concerned about me having a very large bill rather than me getting what I needed or wanted. I wanted to leave several times. It was a long day of travel and she prolonged everything. I wanted a nice filling meal, but I received an overpriced meal that was not filling. The atmosphere is chic and cool, but the service needs to match. My water glass was not refilled until I finished my food. They did make accommodations for me and it was appreciated, but it was met with a disturbed look when I requested information.

Yelp
My fiancée and i were looking forward to coming to commons club because a lot of reviews were so positive. Unfortunately our experience was not the same. We waited about 25 mins for our drinks to arrive even though the place was not packed. The drinks prices are what you expect for Chicago from $12-20 cocktails. We ordered mammas tambien and good ox were good. We also ordered food which took 40 mins to arrive. We ordered the grilled octopus which was a little over done and it was a little chewy for my liking. We also had the chicken which was cooked perfectly. The decor was amazing but the service was very subpar.

Yelp
The food and drinks were great, but the tvs were muted. I would've stayed longer but the game audio was off for the entire NFL game. I know it not a sports bar but if you're going to show you might as well have the audio playing.

Yelp
Coming from Vegas on a work trip I never expected the amazing service we received from Commons Club. The staff is fantastic, venue is beautiful and the final product would keep me coming back every time I'm in Chicago. I'll be referring all my customers this way!

Yelp
A large group of us came in for Restaurant Week and after eating 4 courses and spending over $500, we all left starving. We agreed that the vibe was cool, service was good, and the food was tasty, but the portions were incredibly small.

Yelp
Absolutely love the food and atmosphere at The Commons Club. Stiff drinks, great staff & seating all over the restaurant. The DJ on the Saturday night we were there was playing soulful house music tunes - really nice addition to the already vibey and eclectic environment. Grub wise we had the grilled octopus and crab and all was quite delicious. Definitely a great option inside the Virgin Hotel, 2nd floor.

Yelp
The Commons Club is a cool place. It is on the second floor of the Virgin Hotel, and has a very trendy ambiance. The cocktail list is great, and this place is known for making their own tonic for gin and tonics. Hands down, this was the best gin and tonic I have ever tasted. My only complaint is that I went for the one-year anniversary happy hour, in which they were featuring $1 champagne. However, they ran out of champagne 30 minutes into the happy hour, which was a disappointment. If they advertise another $1 happy hour in the future, I would hope they would stock enough of the featured drink to make it last. Other than that, it's a cool place with creative drinks and fun atmosphere.

Yelp
The place has a great vibe for cocktails and dinner and is located in the heart of downtown right off Michigan and Wacker. Outstanding desserts as well! Get two! Staff was very friendly. yummmmmm

Yelp
By design, the Commons Club is meant to feel like a dark library where naughty things can happen. In reality, I think it's a comfortable, concealed spot for drinks with coworkers, at least at 6:00 on a weekday. The expansive, expensive menu may bite more than it can chew. My summer cocktail, incorporating gin and bubbles and topped with flakes of edible silver, tasted like a strange mix of white wines. (I found a silver sparkle in my hair the next morning.) I might be back for Happy Hour after work, but I wouldn't make the Commons Club a destination, like it aspires to be.

Yelp
There's nothing common about the outstanding service and impeccably crafted dishes at The Commons Club, which eschews any preconceived notions one may hold about dining in a hotel restaurant. Stylish without being stuffy, the sleek interior, while not unfit for the pages of GQ Magazine, eliminates any sense of affectation with kitschy touches-children's blocks serve as table dressing, reminding you not to take this whole "night on the town" thing too seriously. From the bright, flavorful entrees to the wonderfully adventurous cocktails, to the outstanding and decadent desserts, guests are guaranteed a memorable dining experience.

Yelp
This hotel, in general, has so many hidden gems, but The Commons Club is magic. The interior is gorgeous (just like the rest of the hotel) but is also very comfortable and cozy, velvet curtains and glass orb lights bring your eyes up to the high ceilings. The "Shag Room" is filled with plush pillows and seating and is perfect for a shower or bachelorette party. The drinks are lovely craft cocktails, I had something called Aviator, a twist on Aviation, which was amazing. The food is delicious and they had plenty of vegetarian options. I had the grains bowl (has fish flakes that you can request off) and the mushroom app was AMAZING. Fun place for a nice dinner, excited to take all of my friends back!

Yelp
1st time coming into the city and a friend from the Chi recommended it to me. It's a new place and the food I must say is amazing! The shrimp toast was crazy good! It was just a all around good vibe. Good people, food, drinks.. What else do you need?

Yelp
A welcome addition to the neighborhood for after work cocktails. Sometimes you just don't want to deal with The Gage and it's even CLOSER to my office. We are a lazy, lazy bunch. After getting distracted by the egg-shaped dog bed (unfortunately unoccupied at the time), we found our way to the 2nd floor where we had no trouble getting a table for 10 on a Friday at 4:15. I had called ahead to alert them, though they don't take reservations. The space was attractive and had a few different types of seating. Our corner table was perfect. The drinks were tasty and interesting and I relished the opportunity to have a male coworker order the "Dirty Pretty Lover" first so I could cackle and then say "I'll have the same." The scandalous cocktail in question was very nice. Another coworker ordered something with raspberry in it that as far as I'm concerned both looked and tasted like David Bowie. Shared tots, cheese, and charcuterie hit the spot. I'm sure I'll be back after work for a drink and perhaps to try out some of the heavier menu items.

Yelp
ZERO. That's the number of non-meat options on the Happy Hour menu:o( I am so bummed out! I saw chef do a great segment on WGN today featuring not one, but SEVERAL non-meat options - they all look delicious and I can't wait to try them! Except at Happy Hour. When there are ZERO non-meat items. Plz add a few HEARTY non-meat options to the Happy Hour menu so I can add stars! (From the Nosh menu: Burrata? Toast? Other: Mushrooms on Toast? Veggie Burger Sliders?)

Yelp
Been to the rooftop many times and after one of the great bartenders suggested I check out the food at commons club, I gave it a shot. First off, WOW. The food is elegant just like the space. It over delivers and you learn to expect the unexpected with every single dish. Had the scallop crudo to start and it literally melted in my mouth, for my main entree I went with my servers recommendation and ordered a grain bowl and short ribs, and they were both outstanding. Definitely get Etons Mess for dessert! The dishes are BEAUTIFUL. I will definitely come back and be telling all my friends!
