Stopped by Commonwealth recently for a quick dinner and some beers before catching a movie. The place was starting to fill up when we arrived, so we ordered the 5 taco platter (which was supposed to come with a side) and a Cobb salad. Nothing complicated.
At first, I was understanding -- they were getting busier by the minute, and delays happen. But after sitting for 30 minutes, we started noticing something off. Multiple tables who ordered after us were receiving their food.
I waited a bit longer before checking in, and when I finally went up to ask, I was told by someone coming from the back kitchen, "Sorry, something broke... your order will be out next." (I didn't catch what exactly broke.)
Here's the issue: Don't give me a BS answer. Plain and simple.
Not only did our food not come out "next," but three more full orders were delivered after we were told ours was on the way. Even the couple next to us, who had arrived well after we did, asked us if we were still waiting -- they had already finished eating.
I've worked in the restaurant industry. I know things go wrong. Tickets get missed, lines get backed up, communication breaks down. What I don't appreciate is being lied to instead of someone just owning the mistake. If someone had said, "Hey, I'm really sorry -- we missed your order, we're getting it out now," that would've been fine. But don't feed me a made-up excuse about something "breaking" when clearly, that wasn't the case.
By the time our food came (40+ minutes after ordering), we barely had time to eat before the movie. Not to mention, the tacos were just okay, and the "side" that was supposed to come with the platter? Never showed up.
Disappointed isn't even the word -- I'm frustrated because this could've been handled so much better with simple honesty.
Positive note: I enjoy the beer selection.
