NYC’s New Restaurant Openings - New York - The Infatuation

"Compton’s, a sandwich shop that was born in Astoria, has a third location in the East Village. They do a good chopped cheese, and also have pinball machines in their stores for a little doom scrolling-free entertainment while you wait for your sandwich." - will hartman, willa moore, molly fitzpatrick, sonal shah, bryan kim

Where To Eat A Great Chopped Cheese in NYC

"Compton’s makes officially the most expensive chopped cheese on this guide, priced at $15. But when you consider that you can play Pac-Man while you wait for your sandwich at either of the Greenpoint and Astoria branches of this sandwich shop, it’s not such a bad deal. Add in that this sandwich is made on a crusty sesame semolina loaf, with crunchy iceberg lettuce. The beef is rich, the cheese is gooey, the ketchup and mustard flavors are on point, and it’s a faithful, if a bit fancier, representation of the sandwich." - will hartman

Why This Queens Neighborhood Has Become a Restaurant Incubator | Eater NY

"I noted Compton’s, whose founder Alex Compton moved to Astoria after being struck by the neighborhood’s food scene, has added locations in Greenpoint and New Jersey, and that taking over a cafe space on 14th Street convinced him rent was low and demand was high." - Jaya Saxena

Compton's - Review - Greenpoint - New York - The Infatuation

"Known for over-the-top, Italian-inspired sandwiches, Compton’s is full of things that are designed to be photographed, whether they're smothered in stretchy cheese, vodka sauce, or Mike’s Hot Honey. While some places specializing in social media stunt dishes skip the part where they make sure everything tastes good, this is hype food at its most delicious. In addition to doing fascinating things with chicken tenders, Compton’s also makes some of our favorite parms and breakfast sandwiches. The Greenpoint location (there are others in Astoria and Long Island City) has counter seating inside, as well as a covered outdoor seating area, which is great for getting those natural light shots of your cheese pull." - Carina Finn

Google
Each and everyone of their location offer the freshest ingredients and always service with a smile. This time I got “THE TONY” which is an Italian hero and boy is sure hit the spot. Always full of people, but the service is very quick.

Google
This was my first time at Compton’s. Someone had recommended it for the chicken Caesar wrap a few months back, and today I saw a TikTok about the Greenpointer and the Burrata BLT, so we decided it was time to check it out. We ordered a Buratta BLT and a Spencer. Both sandwiches were amazing. Perfectly seasoned, perfectly moist, perfectly cooked, and really tasty. In addition, the service was amazing. The guy who took our order was super friendly - both to us and the delivery guys that came in while we were in the store. He offered to change the TV channel if we wanted and gave us a loyalty card when we mentioned we live nearby. Can’t wait to go back and try more of the sandwiches!! Highly recommend.

Google
This was pretty upsetting. We ordered chicken vodka parm heroes and were very excited as we love vodka sauce and of course chicken parm. This was late in the evening but it was still a couple of hours before they’d close. The hero was hot yet the chicken was so overcooked and chewy and had to have been reheated, possibly more than once that night as well. I ended up throwing out my other half. The boyfriend finished his and was sick to his stomach the rest of the night. I was so shocked and this was his first experience so he was disappointed and has crossed them off his list. I had such a great experience in the Astoria location, I couldn’t believe how bad this was. After looking at some of the other reviews, it seems it’s pretty spotty and they’re experiencing some inconsistence at this location. I hope they get it worked out, the Astoria shop really was great, this was a let down.

Google
Usually am a big fan of Compton’s, but today’s delivery was mid. I have ordered the Spicy Chicken Parm sandwich several times before and usually I get lost in the sauce, but today it had barely any vodka sauce and was quite small compared to previous visits. Paid $20 and wasn’t full 😪

Google
First time at Brooklyn Compton’s. I usually go to the one in Astoria on 23rd Ave. Smaller location but def cool vibes. Went with my go to Vodka Chicken Parm on a roll. Consistency was there, loved it as usual. Staff was awesome! Aylin rang me up, service with a smile, and was excellent at multi-tasking. Phone ringing, delivery guys coming in every 2mins, along with reg customers. Impressive to watch, 👍👍 to her! Kitchen staff got the food out fast with as busy as they were. Food was on point. Hot & tasty. Highly recommend this location as well. 👍👍

Google
5 stars is not just how I feel, but it’s necessary. I’ve been going to comptons since there was 1 location in Astoria and I’m glad it’s been able to expand while retaining quality across all location. I’m always met with a smile by staff at every location. They also are very informative when I can’t decide what to get. The only con I would say about going to comptons is never knowing what to order because all of it looks so good. That being said, you can’t go wrong with a breakfast sandwich. ( New Yorker with a hash brown is my favorite) I’m more than happy to call comptons a regular spot for me whether it’s in Astoria or Greenpoint. Now others can experience them with new locations coming to Syosset and East village.

Tater tots is amazing. It is crispy and freshly fried from the kitchen. Highly recommended this one. I ordered egg everything. It was nice but I did expect the bagel might be more freshly baked. It was dry one but in general the taste is good.

Google
Came across this place while looking for a quick lunch in the area, I don’t normally leave reviews but considering the great service and food I just had to! I got the chicken burrata club which was perfect! Not too heavy but very filling, and the tater tots which were perfectly crispy! The music was great, and there was a free pac-man machine!! 10/10 def coming back again!

Yelp
The food looks way better than it tastes sadly. There was just no flavor at all. I did delivery and got the burrata combo sandwich... the sauce is a poor choice... it needs a punch or to not be there at all. I THINK the sandwich was heated up maybe? It's luke warm and wet. Wings are mostly fat and soggy as well:( Glad I tried it! Wont be back.

Yelp
Have only ordered from delivery here so perhaps in person is even more fresh and delicious. I like the uniqueness of the sandwiches they offer, coupled with staples. I wouldn't say anything I've had knocked my socks off, but certainly enjoyed all sandwiches I've tried.

Yelp
Delicious food + awesome customer service. That's what I get everyone every time I visit Comptons. I recently went and was greeted by Ricky who was super nice and had great energy. I was the only one in store around 1030am and service was swift. I got the NEW YORKER - Two Eggs Over-Medium, Choice of Bacon, Sausage, Ham or Turkey Bacon, American Cheese & Red Pepper Aioli with an added hash brown. Great size and filling. Do yourself a favor and check them out.

Yelp
Heard only good things about this place. I got the Tony sandwich, which was pretty good. It's a cold sandwich and the layers of meat and cheese were thoughtfully portioned, and it had a nice rich saltiness all throughout. I'm not a huge fan of Italian sandwiches in general, but I enjoyed this. Although, I do feel poorly equipped to fully comment on how this place stands amongst the rest. I will say that the sandwich was good and the ingredients did taste of quality!

Yelp
Comptons has been on my list for sandos for quite some time. As someone who is a sandwich affectionato, I knew I had to indulge in some of the mouthwatering and crazy concoctions that Compton has put together. Service was friendly and quick (seems like they are very efficient there), and ambiance was inviting and clean. Loved the connect 4 readily available to kill some time while we waited for our food. We ordered two sandos to split - the vodka Parm and the burrata - both were absolutely incredible. The vodka Parm was one of the best I've ever had. Looking forward to going back and indulging in some of their other sandos!

Yelp
The menu here is the perfect score for some comfort and hangover food. I had the veggie burger, but subbed the smashed falafel patty. The picture doesn't do it justice. Curious to try some of their other sandwich concoctions, love that they have BLTs and yes, they have turkey bacon! This is a fast casual spot with limited seating, but the food and service from the cashier was very friendly. Thanks!

Yelp
Dank sandwiches, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Come hungry, too! Service was great.

Yelp
Went here to grab lunch on our last day in town. It did not disappoint. The reviews about having great sandwiches were spot on. Freshly made, good-sized portions. Great fuel for our flight back to the West Coast. Referring our daughter to this place since she lives in the neighborhood. Looking forward to grabbing a sandwich here on our next trip out.

Yelp
I got the burrata BLT it was a smacker hands-down one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. I would highly recommend it If you're in the mood for a fresh deli sandwich this is the place

Yelp
Super staff and food, this place is a must try sandwich spot. In a nice area in greenpoint, take it to go. They have connect 4 to play while you're waiting for your food too

Yelp
If you're nice to Molé you're nice to me. This place was friendly, efficient and fricking delish!!! I was the fourth person in line to order a rob. Some reason they were popular that day. They gave my dog, Molé a treat while we waited and tons of butt scratches (for Molé not me) we ordered a Rob and some fries went to the park and shared the best fricking sandwich ever... !!! I am so glad Compton's and Compton's energy is in the hood. Thank you for feeding us literally and spiritually

Yelp
OK. So I went in and got a California sandwich. It had a slightly fried egg with a bunch of arugula... it was OK. Needed some salt but I was in too much of a hurry to bother. It was about $10... took 5 to 10 min to come out. I went back and ordered a MASH brand pomegranate blueberry soda drink that was not really to my taste, VERY sour. To each her own. But I was really inspired to write this review when I was sitting in my car a few hours later, taking the occasional sip of sour soda... and I found myself needing to swallow my saliva repeatedly, and that usually happens right before I'm gonna puke. Lo and behold, I jumped out of the car, right my Manhattan Ave and Greenpoint, and yakked my breakfast out on the floor, for all to see, partially hitting my car and my shoes. I distinctly remember a guy walking east on Manhattan Ave, making eye contact with me just as I hurled one of my hurls (if you're reading this, chief... sorry about that). As I've stated in other reviews, I've owned my own restaurants, and I can tell you that it's really hard to know for sure that you barfed because of a problem with your last meal... so I can't necessarily blame them for me spending 3 minutes in hell (and the subsequent clean-up), but let's just say I won't be rushing back there!

Yelp
One of the best sandwich shops - period. What makes a good sandwich? 1) enormous bite size? - check 2) flavorful? - check 3) non soggy bread? - check 4) consistent upon reorder? - check Can't say enough, just go to the place and see for yourself

Yelp
They're finally open!!! I tried Compton's a couple years ago when I was living in LIC. The sandwiches are delicious and in an upscale deli type style. There's something for everyone on their menu. The Greenpoint location is prime and worth the walk! The people at the registers are always nice and helpful if you have questions or want to add or substitute anything. There's seating inside but also looks like they're building outside. Although my recommendation? Take the sandwich, bag of chips and a soda down to the park! Plenty of benches etc with that water view. The sandwiches are a bit more expensive than your local bodega but the size is huge. Definitely 2 portions worth. My go to is the Hal when I'm feeling like an old school classic (turkey sandwich) or the Rob. I'm a cold sandwich gal but they have plenty of hot and cold sandwiches!

Yelp
Awesome craftsmen of sandwiches with all types of options and flavors for sandwich lovers , a must try if you are in the area . Enjoy and have a good bite

Yelp
The Greenpointer is insane. Such a perfect egg sandwich. Other stuff is good too but that one I will be ordering again and again.

Yelp
Nice fresh NY bagels. Bacon egg and cheese on everything bagel was amazing. Would highly recommend.

Yelp
Incredible service and a perfect vodka parm. I went for lunch and it wasn't too crazy. Very, very good.

Chelsea D.

Yelp
I've tried a handful of items here and am disappointed every time. The wraps are consistently soggy, and sandwiches are a step down from an average bodega. Caveat- this has all been through delivery, so everything could be better when eaten live!!
google avatar

Yelp
My favorite sandwich place in all of NY!!! I am so glad that a location opened up in Brooklyn! I have been a long time fan of everything on the menu at the Queens location. This place really is the bomb. If you are in the area you need to stop in! You will not be disappointed!
google avatar

Michael L.

Yelp
It was early, I needed caffeine and I wandered in here by chance, glad I did. It's more of a sandwich and food place but the guy behind the counter saw I needed a pickup and he made me a perfect Americano that saved the day. I don't get to that area much but I will definitely stop here when I do

Yelp
How does one articulate their love properly for a sandwich shop? I love this place so much I'm writing a review with the mindset that it's a thesis. First off, New Orleans and New York might have the best sammys on the planet. A proper french dip or po boy in New Orleans is the yin to Compton's yang. This place cooks, seasons & sauces everything perfectly, their bread is fantastic, the sandwiches are gigantic, and they have literally every sandwich you can think of, only it's the best version you've ever had. Live forever Compton's.

Ethan P.

Yelp
Insane sandwiches that live up to the hype. If you are a sandwich lover in BK, this place is a must.

Devin S.

Yelp
We tried the the Spencer and the Oh 'Em Gee and they were great! The menu is fun with tons of variety and we can't wait to try more. The service was amazing on it's own and even if the food sucked (which it definitely did not) we would go back for the staff.
