"Conans Pizza Central, the longtime Chicago-style pizzeria on the northern edge of the West Campus area, is closing, according to an Eater tipster and confirmed by a staffer. The last day of service will be on Sunday, July 22 at 603 West 29th Street. The shutter of Conans is because of increased rent and lack of business, according to the staffer. However, Conans’ West Anderson and West Stassney locations will remain open still. Aside from the Chicago-style deep dish pies, Conans is also known for its vegan pies made with Daiya cheese and thin crust pies. The central location has been open since 1976, when owners Jerry Strader and Scott Leist opened the 29th Street pizzeria. At one point, there were eight locations in Austin, but that decreased to the three, including the the 2018 West Stassney Lane in 1978, and then the 2438 West Anderson Lane in 1979." - Nadia Chaudhury

The pizza was amazing. We got the deep dish wheat flour crust pizza. The atmosphere was chill and the girl working was very nice. It was quiet and relaxed when we went. I love it!! Definitely recommend to anyone who loves fantasy art or pizza. Boris Vallejo is my favorite artist, and his works are everywhere!!

I had a great experience with Conan's pizza. My wife and I ordered a vegan thin crust wheat veggie pizza not knowing the thin crust was not vegan. So they made a deep dish crust which is vegan and delivered it to us. Quickly I might add. My wife is vegan so it all worked out for the best. And the best part. The pizza was amazing. Place is rad Go there!!!!! Do it!!!!!

Conan's has the best deep dish pizza in town! Absolutely love the veggie supreme. They also have a great lunch special too where you can buy by the slice! I love the atmosphere and the staff too.

This location is one of the places we went to time and time again after starting college at UT in 1975. Conan and Frank Frazetta, man. I can recreate the pies we used to get... I just have to be clear on the description and talk very friendly way to the staff. When they get it right... it is some of the best pizza in town... hands down. Besides, it is just an extremely tight and cozy place... especially after the sun sets.

If you want to try a deep dish style pizza, this is definitely the place to try it! When you first walk in, you'll notice all the graphic art and such on the walls and the tables. Just something to enjoy while you're waiting for your pizza to get fixed up :-)

Love this place. My most recent visit here was to meet my brother here to eat pizza, he lives about an hour away in Florence, and I live an hour away in converse, we drove an hour to eat pizza. That should tell you something. Great Chicago style pizza, highly recommended and worth the drive!

This University area pizza place has been here forever. The decor is old with funny Conan comics on the tables. The must have is the deep dish pizza. Don't let the college kids scare you way from tasting this delicious pizza. The Savage deep dish is a must have. The chicken pesto on thin crust is also yummy. Pass of the Bacon Cheddar Burger and BBQ pizzas. They are drowning in sauce, but not in a good way.

Wanted Chicago deep dish. Got a small, which is ample for 2 and only $14 for an everything. Not as good as I have had in Chicago, but maybe that is an unfair comparison in the BBQ city! It was good with real motzerello cheese, just I would have liked more cheese as a true Chicago has. All on all though worth a try. Oh and unlimited refills on fountain Coke.
