"Houston’s Asiatown is abundant in its available seafood options. Confucius Seafood Restaurant offers traditional Cantonese cuisine, and features a host of crustaceans slathered in buttery garlic sauces and sweet glazes. Focus on ordering the best hits: Consider the baked lobster with ginger and green onion, fish marinated in XO sauce and stir-fried with leeks, and California Dungeness crab with ginger and green onion. For the table? Crispy smelt fishes seasoned with a spicy salt are sure to satisfy a crowd." - Kayla Stewart

Yelp
One of the finer restaurants in Rehoboth, Confucius serves up some deliciously prepared Chinese with a bit of a flair. Nice owners and servers are familiar with their regular customers, making everyone feel welcome. The Peking Duck has a delicious licorice flavor, but don't expect an entire duck carved table side. Super cocktails, brown or white rice available. Favorites include the smoked tofu appetizer, salty and spicy shrimp (also as a combo dinner), chives, Shanghai noodles. They do take reservations over the phone.

Yelp
Places like this are known for bad service because of the cultural divide. Simply put, the service was great as we had someone in our party that spoke Cantonese. That definitely enhanced our experience and it tells us about this divide a bit more. We ordered the black pepper buttered lobster, the calamari, the Chinese broccoli, and the pork ribs. I can say confidently that the quality was very good! The flavors were there and light, with nothing being overpowering. For Chinese seafood, it was extremely cheap as well! The restaurant was a bit dim but otherwise everything was great!

Yelp
This place has HUGE portions and the food is bomb! Would love to come back here more often At my aunts recommendation, we came here to celebrate Mother's Day. It was super busy and already had a wait out the door at 1130am. We waited for about 30 min for a party of 5, but smaller parties were seated faster before us. We ordered soo many dishes, and ALL (minus the soup$ of them hit. My favorites were the tofu with king oyster mushroom and beef with onion. The flat rice noodles were also yummy, though a little overcooked. The string beans were also delicious, but I personally thought it was oversalted. The eggplant dish is also solid. Seriously, everything was so good and flavorful, and the portions are huge! The soup however lacked any taste/flavor. I usually like fish maw soup, but no one really wanted to finish their soup. They recommend adding red vinegar to it but that also did nothing for me. For a group of 5, we definitely over-ordered with 7 dishes + 1 soup. Pretty sure they also douse the food in MSG because we were OUT for the rest of the day. Service was super quick and efficient, even on such a busy day! They also brought out paper plates/forms/knife at the end since we brought a cake. The place isn't the fanciest, inside or out, but I thoroughly enjoyed my experience. Note: I believe they have a 5% discount if you pay in cash!

Yelp
Never a bad meal here. This place is my go to whenever I'm craving Singapore noodles. Very delicious! I tried their hot oxtail soup for the first time and was completely blown away. Extremely delicious and the portion lasted me 3 meals. I wish I could Have taken a pic lol but I couldn't be distracted while eating it

Yelp
Best lobster In town. Located in a strip mall with plenty of parking. Just know it's a no frills place. When you enter, you see a large fish tank. We got seated right away in one of the big tables. We order a number of items. Some of the highlights include Peking Duck, lobsters , Jade tofu with king mushrooms, snow pea leaves with garlic and salt & pepper pork chops. There are a number of choices for the lobsters on how you want it cooked... fried, ginger & onion, etc. our go to is the black pepper & butter. Sauce is very tasty... hard to describe... very satisfying. Peeking duck was delicious. Skin was crispy. Wish they used crepe instead of bao. Another favorite is the jade tofu with king mushrooms. It comes with brown gravy sauce that complements it very well. We plan to come back again not too far in the future whenever we are craving for lobsters.

Yelp
Take this review with a grain of salt since I didn't order any seafood at a seafood restaurant... But I came here midday on the weekend and it was practically empty. Lots of tables and staff waiting around so at least the service was quick! It's honestly set up like any other Asian restaurant this place doesn't really stand out amongst the others. The fried rice was bland and Peking duck was average. It's all authentic and on the cheaper side. Maybe the seafood makes up for what this place is lacking to me.

Yelp
Love coming here to eat with family or a large group of friends. Their lunch special is SUPER worth it. It starts from 11am-3pm. Dishes range 7.85-8.85

A L.

Yelp
This review was over due. Our families enjoyed coming here due to very good food, good potions and reasonable price. Services were good. Atmosphere was nice as well. Never once we are disappointed with the food. Keep up the good work

Bijou N.

Yelp
Mediocre food with very bad service. Came to Confucius previously and had a positive experience but my second visit left a lot to be desired. The food was overall not very well flavored; the lobster special was $40 for tiny pieces that were difficult to eat and mostly batter. The server was impatient and kind of rude. I would skip in the future.

Gia C.

Yelp
Best cheap Chinese more authentic food. We went during Xmas super early before the crowd rush and wait around 5pm. Quick service. Borderline hole in the wall but well kept enough. Waitresses are nice Asian establishment standards iykyk. Greens were awesome. Wish the portions were a lil more but that's abt it. Clams are clammy fyi. Can't go wrong. They have.l a good reputation for years. Especially for their lobster special. We don't eat lobster but you can try.

Eliza L.

Yelp
4.5 / 5 stars. Delicious Authentic Chinese Food. Came here with family. Ive been coming here for a very long time. I barely come here is bc of the area. I always feel unsafe but the food is very good. They did remodel inside where it's alittle spacious and modern. This is family style where everyone eats together. We order Salt & Pepper Squid 4/5 stars, Salt & Pepper Fish 4/5 stars, Stir Fried Green Beans 4/5 stars, 1/2 Phoenix Cold Chicken with ginger sauce 4/5 stars, Hong Kong Beef Fillet (tomato sauce) stir fried with onion 5/5 stars, & last but not least fresh Gigantic King Crab 5/5 stars. Waitress was attentive.

Olivia M.

Yelp
This has to be one of my all time favorite authentic Chinese restaurants in Houston. There is a reason it is always packed with people. The food has so much flavor, comes out fast, and has a wide variety of options of protein, vegetables, and starches to choose from. I recommend getting the salt and pepper spare ribs, fried tofu with sauce, and SALT AND PEPPER LOBSTER - this stuff tastes like crack because it is so delicious and addicting lol. The waiters are pretty nice too. Cleanliness is okay. Some of my recommendations are to come here early otherwise you'll have to wait. It's also better to come in a group of 4+ that way you can order more!!

Savannah N.

Yelp
I love eating here with my family! The food is flavorful, and they have such reasonable prices for their big portions. The only downside is their customer service. They were a bit rude and I felt rushed when ordering, but it's kinda expected when you're eating at a Chinese restaurant like this. Nonetheless, I always enjoy the ambiance coming here with my family and will recommend this restaurant if you're looking for a good meal!

Yelp
It is visit again after many years later the dinning room getting bigger and very clean the food is same as before very delicious the service is ok in all it is very nice place to eat !

Jacquelyn C.

Yelp
Service here is always mediocre and space is tight, but food is usually good. We always get the salt and pepper squid and beef flat rice noodles. The beef flat rice noodles never disappoint, but sometimes the squid tends to be more sweet than savory. We also typically get the fish maw soup with crab belly and that is also always really good. It's also super filling and thick, very nice to eat on a cold night. Their lobster is usually fresh, delicious, and super tender--and they typically have a deal for them. Their other dishes tend to be pretty good as well, and food always comes out pretty quickly!

JJ D.

Yelp
I've been here for 2nd time and still like it. I love their crab hut still many dishes to try.

James C.

Yelp
this is our second visit and it might be my new favorite Chinese restaurant in Houston. Good food, quick service and very decent price. portions are huge here so come hungry. It's a hole in the wall type joint next to Fiesta but nothing but goodness.

Darton M.

Yelp
great food, no negative, 12 different course they all just perfect delicious as it always should, came back there many time

Nancy C.

Yelp
Some of the very best salt and pepper squid in town. And I would say Houston restaurants offer a lot of competition for this paricular dish. It has been a few years since I stepped foot inside Confucius and there have been many changes. The flooring has been updated, the floor to floor mirrors have been replaced, and customer service has gotten better. What hasn't changed? The delicious food. My family and I ate dinner here on a Saturdag night and we were mighty pleased. Our table of seven ordered the following: Fish and crab soup: classic soup with slightly thick consistency filled with fish stomach and pieces of cran meat. Yes, I said fish stomach. Not my favorite thing in the world but it isn't really that offensive. Think of a soft little sponge that soaks in lots of flavor. Salt and pepper squid: amazing! Large cuts of squid is drenched in breading and fried to a beautiful golden color. Then, the fried squid is lightly tossed in a scallion, jalapeno, salt, and pepper mix. It's just fantastic. Sauteed clams: juicy clams tossed in a thick sauce and sauteed with bell peppers, onions, and basil. Eat the clams and then cover your bowl of rice with the left over sauce! The basil is the ingredient that really elevates the dish. Cold cut chicken (half order): cold cut chicken marinated in a sweet soy sauce topped with thinly sliced scallions and ginger. Ad the name suggests, this is a cold dish. And while not for everyone, I quite enjoy it. The chicken is moist and tender while the scallion and ginger mix on to offers a refreshing balance. Great meal, great company, great night. Will be back for more dishes very soon

Yelp
We came early on a Saturday at around 6pm for dinner, there was no wait for a table. The food was very flavorful, they had a lobster special where you can get 2 lobsters for $35 if you order 2 entrees. Overall everything was good. It's a family place and the crowd appeared to be older.

Lisa B.

Yelp
This is a good Chinese/Viet family style restaurant. We were able to get a family of 7 sat down on a Friday easily for dinner. Place is a bit dirty as a lot of Chinatown restaurants tend to be. I had to ask for new silverware and decided to order soda due to dirty water glasses. Peking duck was good but baos were a lil old. Other stuff was good! Steamed tilapia, crab/asparagus soup, ginger scallion lobster

Nina T.

Yelp
The foods was good but the service was really bad specially the cashier guy . He was so mean and rude . You

Nhi V.

Yelp
My family's go to place for lobster. 2 lobsters for $35 is a great deal and the lobster was full of meat. Every dish we ordered was delicious and portion is generous. Highly recommend the Dungeon Crab Fried Rice. Although it was rather expensive, the crab meat was sweet and the rice was enough for like 10 people.

Hanh T.

Yelp
Always come back when in town. Food came out fast, good service, and obviously good food. We had a party of 7 this time.

Lien T.

Yelp
Good food! Wide variety of dishes to choose from. The pricing is decent. I would go there again.

Huyen C.

Yelp
Anytime family comes to visit from out of state, we take them here. The food portions are huge, decent in pricing & always come out quick & hot. We always order the same thing: walnut shrimp, fried tofu (always made perfectly), beef ribs with special sauce, snow pea leaves and prawn with scrambled eggs. Our family wanted to try the soup (fish maw) and we had never had it before... they thought it was a bit bland. The steamed fish was good & fresh (no complaints). The food we always order is a must here at Confucius! Try them out! Don't be scared of a hole in the wall Chinese restaurant! All the waiters/waitresses are very sweet & kind!

Jennifer Y.

Yelp
The service here continues to be subpar. The waiters are in a hurry to leave instead of answering questions unless you're a regular (in which case they stay to have long conversations). But fortunately the food is still delicious - ~$35 for two lobsters (you must order two additional dishes to get this deal and you cannot pay for just the lobsters alone).

Alexus N.

Yelp
Came here for lunch on a weekday - which is normally slower than weekends, but the food and service was no good. My friend and I walked in and was seated next to a table less than 6ft away. Keep in mind, they do require masks (which I am totally OK with) but also have a sign posted about "social distancing and stay 6ft apart". That's kinda funny. Once the server gave us our menu, she asked "ready to order?" Uhhh no, we literally just sat down. Then she came back in less than 3 minutes and asked again. I hate being rushed. Especially when I never said or expressed that I was in a rush. We hastily ordered the half order of Peking duck and the shrimp in ketchup sauce. Peking duck w/ bao buns- Why are there pieces with the bone-in? I've never had Peking duck with bone-in. The duck was dry and tasted "old". Shrimp in ketchup sauce- Tastes just like the name of the dish with some onions, garlic and sweet peppers. I did enjoy this dish but wasn't in the mood to work for it. Sweet and saucy w/ nice large sized head on shrimp. If you order this, make sure you're prepared to peel those babies! The server did refill our waters regularly, but overall, I didn't care for their service from the get-go. Most likely won't return here. The interior is outdated and doesn't look "clean". I would also suggest actually spacing tables 6ft apart if that's what you're posting at your business. Don't be hypocrites.

Alan S.

Yelp
I had driven by this place a bunch of times but never came in until a friend took me for my birthday. We had the lobster (dry style - it was good. I was told lobster is the thing to get here, and I noticed that most of the tables at lunch had the lobster. We also had another dish of tofu and vegies (not bad but not really my thing) and a beef (or pork?) rib dish that was excellent. I didn't order, I just ate. Would have been enough for 3 people but the 2 of us put a pretty good dent in it.

Jason B.

Yelp
Since moving from NY in 1989, been looking for Northeast style chinese food. It was worth the wait. This spot was great. Food was awesome. Service great and it was crowded. Corkage fee but brought some great wine. Wife and I were excited about the meal and will def be back.

Tammy H.

Yelp
POOR SERVICE , RUDE waitress! They gave us a pitcher of ice tea and made us refill our drinks! They were speaking trash in Chinese words!!!!

Sophie Y.

Yelp
Haven't been here for over a year and I remember why we don't frequent more often. Extremely rude hostess/waitress who was so impatient. Think she's either owner or related to the owner.. Peking duck was dry and those steamed buns were not good. I know they were frozen but at least they should be warm when served. The duck came with a 2nd dish which we found little to no duck meat. They could have placed the lettuce in a separate plate because the pieces kept sliding off the plate to the table. Too salty and greasy on this plate of mystery ingredients. Stir fried green beans was ok and so was the beef filet. There are better Cantonese restaurants in terms of service and quality of food. It's time to rule them out completely!

Tracy Y.

Yelp
Service: This is the worse place to go if you want to be respected or even get decent service. The servers are very rude, and they rush you. We saw they close at 10PM, but we know they often don't follow their operating hours, they close earlier than what's stated. We called in before we went there to check the closing time and last call. On the phone they told us it was 9:00pm, so we rushed there, only to find out when we got there their last call was 8:30pm. And the server was rushing us to order. Very disrespectful and disappointed. You should state the correct operating hours online. Some people drive really far to come here and find out y'all are closed. Awful experience.

Tamara H.

Yelp
Authentic, delicious, friendly. So I am still on a learning curve about Asian food, from all locales, with a long way to go, but trust me when I say that Confucius is worth trying. I will def be back! My favorite dish so far is their baked lobster with ginger and green onion. Whew-wee! Tasty, tasty. You will not care that you have the shell in your mouth, just trying to get every last ounce of flavor out of it. Chicken fried rice topped me off beautifully.

Orlan D.

Yelp
Service sucks at this place , rude staff including the manager , they charged 5 dllrs for extra rice , 1 dllr for lemons and they do not separate checks , they want to only take 1 card and also charged you a fee for using it

JamminJ M.

Yelp
Loved the food until we got to the small German cockroach in my fried rice! I had a fantastic meal there and got some to go. Turned my stomach when I saw it

Enzo V.

Yelp
The venue is a great family style restaurant that serves delicious Asian food. The flavor is absolutely delicious from the salt and pepper lobsters to the honey walnut prawns and short ribs. Like most Asian restaurants though, the service is a little slow but isn't bad at all. They keep the tables clean! A great location to pick if you have a large party of friends or want to take your family out for seafood.

Jade T.

Yelp
Truly an authentic Chinese family owned restaurant. They have delicious foods and the food is shared family style, so everyone orders something off the menu and the food comes in large portions. You're given a bowl of rice and you turn the clear looking disk on the table to turn the food facing what you want. The Salted Baked Fresh Squid was DELICIOUS, it had that saltiness with the bake squid, but it wasn't too salty where I needed to drink water constantly. I truly enjoyed the Pork HKS with rice, it was so delicious I couldn't stop eating. I had to bring it home to me and I had it for left-overs. The waitresses and waiters are attentive and will be more than happy to get your order in quickly and the food comes out quite quickly too! The payment went solely into one card, but we sent money to the person who was paying for the portions our food cost and it was a quick sit-down and go once you're finished eating and paying. The waitresses are real quick to order and sometimes they will explain to you how big the portions are if you're worried about over ordering. Portions are MASSIVE, so be aware its worth the money! The best place to get authentic Chinese food! They don't have the food you'd expect at Panda Express or PF Chang's, they have authentic Chinese food and it's delicious! If its your first time eating here, welcome! If you're not happy with the food, please be respectful with the food and always treat the employees with the same kind and consideration you'd want!

Sharon H.

Yelp
Went here with my family. The fried shrimp and calamari was a joke. Absolutely no flavor and so much batter. I'm Cantonese and trust me this place was a disappointment. Service was bad. Never will I come back and recommend this place. To many better places in Chinatown to go to.

Nathan V.

Yelp
This is a great place for affordable Chinese seafood you can find. Their special is $29.99 for two lobsters if you order two more regular items. We usually go with the clams and Chinese broccoli to complete the special order.

Krista R.

Yelp
We were hungry, but not that hungry. I figured we would be eating again the night we came here, so we didn't order much. Probably the wrong place to go for being "not that" hungry, but it's okay. I ordered the ribs in spicy sauce, but they brought us salt and pepper ribs..which was fine. They were good. Son ordered the prawns with scrambled eggs. The scrambled eggs were fluffy and had good taste. Went well with the shrimp. Will definitely be back eventually to try the lobster.

Antonio C.

Yelp
Terrible service! Never coming back food was ok, the fried calamari it taste like a an old oil, waitress was very rude and on top of that a charge on Chinese, the we don't knew about it

Lynn N.

Yelp
Today's experience was something I have never experienced before. Before eating and during eating, our server was nice, but her service was the bare minimum type of service. It wasn't until my bf was filling out the check that things went downhill. Our total came out to be a little under $150. But a little less than half of the bill was to-go food. So we took that into account, and chose a tip that was based on her service and the amount of food we actually ate there. My bf wrote the tip and signed the bill. The server took our bill, took a look at it, and handed it back to him and told him that he had to tip the suggested amounts which were starting at 15% and up. My bf was confused that maybe there was a new rule that we had to choose 15% for this restaurant. Confused and frazzled (cause this has never happened before to either of us), we decided to comply and did what she told us to do. This added a whole $10 more to the tip we originally wrote. Now looking back on it, we shouldn't have been naive and stood our grounds. However I am disappointed and mad that she DEMANDED us to tip more. Very rude and unprofessional. It seems like we were not the only ones that this has happened to based on the other reviews.

J S.

Yelp
The food was ok but don't expect good service or ambiance. Some of the wait staff are clueless when it comes to accommodating customers. Arrived and asked for a table for 7. They shuffled us to a corner table even though there were plenty of tables available. My father with disability had trouble squeezing pass the other tables and walls to sit. When my daughter went to the restroom, the waitress took away her chair. I had to get up to pull the chair back so she has a seat when she returns. Immediately, the waitress shuffled dirty menus in front of me tried to up sell on the food pointing to the $400+ fixed price dinner. We declined because we had several seniors at the table with dietary restrictions. Then another waitress came over to up sell us on the food again and we declined. Then the waitress brought over a pitcher of ice water. This signals that they can't be bothered to refill our water glasses. They never came back to check on us other than to bring out the food. Very inconvenient to have a large pitcher with water condensing everywhere. My father can't lift the large pitcher so we end serving each other. Did noticed the gratuity was automatically added to the bill. As a side note- This is not a place to go to when at maximum capacity. If there is ever a fire or an emergency, difficult for customers to get out given the number of tables they squeezed into the room.

David L.

Yelp
The food was good. However, the service was absolutely terrible. The waitress was extremely rude to my mother. She had a very bad attitude acting as if she didn't even want to serve us. What made it worse was they attempted to charge us an 18% automatic gratuity fee even though we only had a party of 5. After we finished, we asked the waitress why there was an 18% gratuity fee given that our party was not 6 or greater. She responded with "it's 5, it's 5, it's 5" very rudely and would not change anything. I know this isn't the case as I've been here before with a group of 5. Normally, I wouldn't mind paying an 18% gratuity but I had an issue with it due to the extent of how disrespectful she was to my mother. Given the circumstances, I went to speak with the manager to let him know the situation. He removed the automatic gratuity fee but quickly blew me off and refused to hear anything about how poor the service was, responding with "I don't want to discuss, just leave". I'm very disappointed in how the manager responded refusing to even listen. As we were leaving, the waitress told us to not come back. Seems fitting, I'll definitely not be returning. Although I like the food, I can't support a business that's ran that way. If you end up going here, I'd suggest picking it up to go. Hopefully you never have the displeasure of being "served" by this waitress.

Fox E.

Yelp
Sometimes I think these reviews are just designed to confuseus. But this one, not so much. It's designed to Confucius. This is a family restaurant which serves Chinese dishes that aren't completely authentic, for the most part, that are pretty good, and then also a bunch of homestyle Vietnamese dishes, most of which are made well and delicious. It's a great place to bring the whole family, and service is nice too. I'm looking forward to exploring the menu even more.

Ed S.

Yelp
Highly recommended if you are in the Houston area and craving for chinese seafood. Their lobster is to die for. Very authentic and cozy place. Good service and quick serving. Definite spot for family gathering.

Regina S.

Yelp
Great restaurant the food was delicious and presented well. The flavor of each dish left you wanting more. The service was a little bad but not where I wouldn't go back again. I highly recommend the Sizzling Beef, Crab fried rice and the black pepper lobster superb dishes. I love the way the table is set up for eating very family friendly. Great place

Pierre Y.

Yelp
SO DISAPPOINTED at this waitress - went for lunch yesterday and already past lunch hours and requested a slight larger table because I usually order 4-6 dishes even for party of two. Unfortunately, the waitress refused us and told me the larger table is for parties of 4. Not much choice so I ordered only 4 dishes. 10 minutes later, they allowed a party of 2 to sit at that larger table and I obviously very unhappy about that and asked the waitress WHY? I noticed that the guy w/ gold Rolex and the lady had a big diamond ring. The waitress then explained to me that they will order more food; and obviously that was not a good answer . She said sorry but we decided to have our food togo instead.... what a bummer situation and no more dining at Confucius.

Jeff N.

Yelp
this is my go to Chinese restaurant down in Bellaire probably the best value and great food at the same time. Specialty Chinese wok type fast food. best salty fish shrimp fried rice in town!
