"Executive chef Rick Shell of Cape Neddick resort Cliff House Maine can’t choose just one of his favorite cider doughnuts in Wells, spotlighting Congdon’s Doughnuts 'to take with you on a beautiful fall walk along Wells Beach.'" - Adam H. Callaghan

"Congdon’s is a Southern Maine institution, which means it’s more than worth a lightning-fast detour off Route 1. You’ll likely see a line out the door when you pull into the parking lot, but thankfully, it moves pretty quick, so you can enjoy your doughnuts and coffee on the road or in their outdoor seating area. While their maple-raised donuts are unmatched, get at least a half dozen so you can try their airy raised, filled, or cake varieties with different fillings, frostings, and sprinkles. If you stop by after the shop closes for the day, they convert the large lot into a food truck park with rotating vendors, a beer garden, live music, and car shows. " - anne cruz

"This family-owned restaurant and bakery has been in business since the 1940s. Step up to the no-frills counter to choose from a variety of pillowy-soft raised doughnuts or go all out and order a dozen at the drive-thru window." - Kate McCarty

We were told we had to try Congdon’s Doughnuts while visiting the area, so we made sure to go early on a weekday when they had most of their selection still! Their chocolate frosting is very rich, and these donuts are definitely thicker and cakier than what we’re used to back home in CT. They had such a great variety of flavors, but we couldn’t resist all the chocolately ones. Not in our personal favorites for donuts we’ve ever had, but solid for the area!

As expected inflation has hit this local gem. $33 for a dozen donuts is tough, but always worth it for hand made fresh donuts. Highly recommend the blueberry fritter. The classic donuts are their best. Jelly, honey dip, chocolate frosted. Just can’t beat it. Their iced coffee is also some of the best around. Since it’s usually a one time treat every year, I plan to try the muffins and other bakery treats they have. Also saw a sign advertising their own beer which I will for sure be back for. Lines are long but move quickly. Get there early!!

Donuts in the morning, food trucks in the evening. Brilliant companies solve simple problems. Well done. Free donuts at the end of the day is fun to watch the donut grab from seemingly innocent little old grandmas.

Was my first visit, I have been wanting to stop for over 3 years now. The number of smiling faces for cashiers made the line not really long at all. I arrived around 7am and line moved very quickly. They were by far the best donuts I have ever had.

This was our fourth trip to Maine and we FINALLY made it to Congdon’s!!! It was everything my husband hoped it would be! I’m so glad he found this place! Absolutely delicious! Got the Honey Dipped doughnuts!!! OMG….AMAZING!! Also got me a four pack of whoopie pies….So good!!! We will make this a mandatory stop every time we come to Maine!!!

My family starts dreaming of Congdon’s donuts as we get close to our vacation. When we come back home, the kids say they can’t eat other company’s donuts anymore because Congdon’s donuts are melt in your mouth amazing and nothing can compare to them! Congdon’s has ruined us. Everything else is mediocre. Their service is amazing. Even when it is busy, we have always been treated with kindness and patience. Congdon’s is in our opinion a bright shining star! It is as much a part of our yearly vacation as the ocean and the sand!

Every time I arrive there to pick up my bakers' dozen of the chocolate chocolate jimmy doughnuts, there is a line out the door, however it goes very fast and the ordering system is excellent - several taking orders, then a short wait to get the order. Very efficient. The doughnuts can't be beat. I don't even like doughnuts but I love those and I tried a Cider doughnut and that was outstanding! The apple fritters are amazing! I have been visiting there since I was a little girl and I am 65!!
