Hidden gem! Very authentic, very service oriented, super food! They also have a good beverage menu. Love the place, it's one of those "hole in the wall" off the beaten path places, and just a block from the Palace Theater. If you're going to see a show, give them a try! Or if you're just in the mood for Mexican, give them a try! Oh, and the prices are great too!!!

We visited this Mexican restaurant and ordered a beef taco plate, but were mistakenly brought a fish taco plate. We let the staff know, but instead of correcting it smoothly, they argued with us, insisting we had ordered fish. After some back and forth, they finally took the plate back and brought out the beef tacos we originally ordered. However, when we went to pay, both the fish and beef tacos were on the bill. We explained again that we didn’t eat the fish, didn’t take them to-go, and had clearly sent them back untouched. Shockingly, the owner insisted we pay for the fish tacos anyway. It felt very unprofessional and disrespectful. To make matters worse, based on the appearance of the fish tacos, it looked like they may have just reused the plate, which is both unsanitary and disturbing. Unfortunately, the service was rude, and the experience overall was terrible. We won’t be returning, and we wouldn’t recommend this place to others.

Google
10/10 food, got taquitos and a burrito, perfect sized portions, and not greasy, and amazing service too. I'm very picky with margaritas and these were the best margaritas I've had in town. Great prices as well, only $60 for two people with a great meal and margarita each!

Google
We arrived during dinner service. Downtown seemed pretty busy but this restaurant was empty. We placed our orders. I asked for water expecting it to be free but they gave us bottled water. Food was good. But the receipt was kind of sketchy. It wasn't itemized and the price was about $20 more than expected. No explanation was given as to how the price got that high. I wouldn't recommend this place for that reason. The food was good. The bathroom was a bit gross. 2 flies on the toilet seat, no TP, almost out of soap. The wall had peeling paint near the sink from some type of water damage. I just wanted to get out of there. It's a shame because the food tasted great. But after the extreme over charge and gross bathroom I wouldn't recommend going here.

We have been going to Consuelo's for years to enjoy their delicious offerings, and due to their hospitality and affordability, we chose to have them cater our wedding. Martin and Arturo were communicative and listened to our needs, and made sure everything was taken care of on the day of our event. They brought their own tables and setup, including Horchata and Jamaica Agua Fresca in addition to the taco bar offerings. We enjoyed a variety of taco fillings including beef fajita, shredded chicken, a large amount of mixed vegetables, as well as rice and beans, chips, and all of their delicious salsas. Consuelo's arrived on time for set up, and broke down quietly and efficiently once dinner was done. Our guests RAVED about the food, and many went back for multiple servings. Pricing was beyond fair for the services we received, and we would gladly have them cater any other event in our future. Until then, we will continue to dine in at Consuelo's to enjoy the casual ambiance, have a beer and some tacos, and chat with their amazing owners.

Google
Amazing food and amazing people. I got the chicken enchiladas with mule sauce. Not only the food was great but the people were amazing in their hospitality. The pride they take in preparing the food and taking care of their patrons is great. Will definitely go back to checkout rest of the items on their menu.

Google
Have been coming here with friends for years. Always friendly staff and nice relaxed atmosphere. The only reason it is one star down is the last time we went they really skimped on meat in burritos. It was not our experience in the past. Hopefully they will correct it next time.

Google
I had the carne asada quesadilla and my friend had the carne asada tacos and we both found them to be absolutely delicious. The chips and salsa were great and the drink selection was perfect. I was recommended this place by my parents and I will definitely be going back!

Yelp
Consuelo's is one of the best places for mexican cuisine! The tacos are authentic and delicious! The inside is beautiful and has an authentic feel. The service is welcoming and It is run by owner Martine who is a loyal member to the Manchester community. Consuelo's is a staple downtown so don't hesitate to stop by!

Yelp
Last night before the Creed concert, my group and I noticed a restaurant that looked amazing, and we mentioned that we should check it out. As we walked in, my cousin's wife said she needed to use the restroom quickly. Almost immediately, someone who appeared to be the owner or an employee yelled across the room, "HEY, ARE YOU A CUSTOMER? NO? THEN GET OUT, YOU HAVE TO ASK!" I didn't even have the chance to respond, and it was an extremely embarrassing moment. My group was so uncomfortable that they decided to leave right away. It's unfortunate, because we were genuinely interested in dining there. A more respectful approach would have gone a long way. Sadly, due to the way we were spoken to, I cannot see myself supporting this business. I would look elsewhere in manchester for dining options major Jerk I can't imagine how he treats his staff .

Yelp
Speedy and friendly service! Delicious tacos - and excellent selection of beverages. I'm still here but needed to get this out before I forgot. We were in a rush - but this place hits the mark even if we weren't. Small spot , bustling with business.

Yelp
The kitchen and register is hidden behind this hanging reclaimed window/lattice guard (sketch city) so I had to squat and squint to place my order. Carne asada Burrito took almost 15min. to appear in an incredible wrap filled with mushy flavorless rice, indistinguishable from the flavorless bean. And on my last bite I found 4 chewy shreds of a gray beef product (?) I would have felt more content paying the $11 for a pristine glass of water. It's my 3rd attempt to get a decent burrito here. They have struck out...

Bonnie R.

Yelp
Do not eat here!! Not only did they serve me rotten chicken in the taquitos, they committed fraud by adding 5.00 to my bill after I left ( saw it on my credit card statement) and refused to show me my bill showing the charges. When I asked to see it, was told the machine was broken so I was just shown the menu with the prices. And they charge for chips & salsa ( was offered when we sat down, but they charged 4,00). Just horrific. I should report them for fraudulent credit card charge.

Marissa G.

Yelp
Not impressed. The burritos I got (fish and carne asada) have practically no flavor to them, and at $9.50 a burrito it's certainly not worth it. I got horchata as well which is decent but certainly not something to give praise to. When I walked in I was asked if I was dining in or taking out, to which I wasn't sure yet and that sure made the server upset. I was shown where the menus were and told to take a look. Not 3 minutes later the server practically demanded I order at that time. I went and sat down at a table to wait for what I ordered. Another family came in and the server asked me to get up from my seat so they can push the tables together, while there were two already open tables they could have used. It's tightly packed together and very hot inside the dining area, so over all, very unhappy I spent about $25 in there all together. Very much not worth trying to find parking and all that. L

Yelp
The service and ambiance is great. But the food is not. The tacos were flavorless and meat seemed to be cooked and left out for days. The worst thing is, they messed up our order and brought fish tacos instead of beef , and tried to convince us that we ordered fish. Once resolved they took the fish tacos, which looked like rotten batterered fish, and brought beef. But once the bill came they charged us for fish and beef tacos. After trying to get it off saying the order was wrong, they said well you ordered fish and beef, which we did not. We asked to take the fish tacos to go then since we got charged for them, but they said no. Very bad business practices! And again, food is not even close to authentic Mexican food, or any other edible food, that we know and love in Puerto Vallarta and Mexico City. Hope they get their act together because it would be a great place due to ambiance and location.

Yelp
Very friendly staff and a very nice ambiance and the food was very fresh! I spent over 2 hours here with a few friends and we had a great time.

Yelp
Attentive service, good food, and a nice atmosphere create a nice place to enjoy a meal. I had the chips and salsa and 3 chicken tacos. All are made there, a scratch kitchen. Fresh ingredients just taste better. I had bottled water, a nice selection of beers, and a full bar - I want to go back for Margheritas!

Yelp
Started our night at a cute little place across from the Rex called Consuelo's Taquera. I thought my food was delicious ( that's my big burrito) and the Sangria was just sweet enough for me! Arthur (his nickname as I couldn't pronounce correctly) was such a wonderful host and accommodated all 13 of us! I can't wait to go back!

Kyle C.

Yelp
Honestly was surprised at how many great reviews this place had . The meat was extremely oily and lackluster in flavor/texture . Tried to get the kids some basic style tacos but ended up with just a hard rolled corn tortillas meat only . The next 24 hours my stomach didn't sit right either . Again was def bumming because I had high expectations for this establishment !

Yelp
Vegetarian Torta Deliciosa! Recently returned to NH from SoCal, so I have tried a lot of Mexican Tortas... This torta was ! Veg torta is not even on the menu but I just asked, "Can I get a veggie torta?" I was told that it's not on the menu and that the cook hasn't made one before. But he went to work in the kitchen and made a veggie torta anyway If you're vegetarian and you think that meat is mandatory in most Mexican plates, don't be afraid to ask and ask nicely. This was my first visit since they opened 15 yrs ago, and I was satisfied. Will be returning to try more. Btw, los tres Hermanos y dueños son buen hombres. Sorry I didn't take more pics. Next time!

Randy G.

Yelp
Food was great and the staff is very friendly. Definitely worth checking out! I don't get a chance to get there too often but I am always pleased when I do.

Yelp
If only the food and service was as good as the ambiance and space are. Sadly, they are not. My burrito was OK, but I was given literally two chips on the side. At that point, why bother. The service is ponderously slow and you can tell that they are understaffed. Place has tons of potential were it better staffed. Ambiance - 4 Food - 2 Service -2

Yelp
I had wanted to go to this place for a long time. Sorely disappointed. I got the beef tacos. They were so watery it made my taco shell break. I have never had beef taste like that. Not sure if it was fresh or what was up with it. Service was painfully slow even though there was a few people working and we were the only ones there. I won't go back.

Yelp
Such authentic Mexican food with welcoming and personal service. Despite not being on the menu, graciously prepared for us vegetarian enchiladas. The chile pepper on margarita glass rim a great touch. Highly recommended

Yelp
Everyone sees your usual Americanized over proceed Mexican food, this is not at all that place. Beyond what I expected, traditional style tacos and filling burritos with delicious seasoned rice, this has now become my new favorite place to go when I have a need for a taco. Additionally the staff were sincere and attentive, and the prices were the opposite of outrageous, truly the best authentic Mexican I've had in New Hampshire

Miguel D.

Yelp
Excellent authentic Mexican food, my family and I had a great time, Arturo is an amazing guy and dedicated to his customers, best prices, we're excited to come back, highly recommend A1!!! We drove from Rochester

Yelp
The customer service here is terrible. I came here with my friend and for the first time in my life have witnessed explicit discrimination. I never write reviews, but this incident was so shocking and sad that I had to write one. My friend is black, and I am a light-skinned Latina, and I never thought this information was relevant until now. This waiter was horrible! He, for one, was impatient from the start and would leave before getting the whole order and talked over us a lot. Then when my friend had told him she said she didn't want salsa on her nachos, he angrily responded with "No you didn't! You have to read the menu!" To make matters worse, he then continued to be passive-aggressive by completely ignoring my friend, keeping his back towards her, and acting exceptionally friendly to me. He came over and asked me to try all these different salsas without acknowledging my friend at all! He continued to ask me questions of where I was from and when I commented in Spanish on how I didn't like the way he was treating my friend his excuse was "it's because she doesn't like anything" while still keeping his back towards her like she didn't exist! This experience was appalling, to say the least. This man was an ignorant racist, and I feel sorry for people with this mentality. I hope my friend never has to experience this again! This waiter should be fired and the worst part is I don't even know his name. Needless to say, I didn't leave a tip and feel like we shouldn't have paid for that meal!

Yelp
One of my favorite restaurants in Manchester. I no longer live in town but always make sure to eat here when I visit. Can't say enough about the people, the drinks, the food, delicious salsa.

Yelp
Very nice space, and I don't care about how long it takes to get food. Coming from California I do expect the food to be at least decent. Soft corn tortillas with onion and cilantro for their tacos is authentic. Got the tacos pastor and the fish tacos, my favorite. I don't recall, having them in Ensenada, Mexico, that fish tacos were supposed to burn your tastebuds. Whatever 'mild cream sauce' they used might have been infused with Scotch bonnet peppers, which made them painful to eat. And very little fish in them, mostly chopped red cabbage. The 'homemade' tamal was bland and hard, like frozen and then microwaved. The rice, as others have commented, was Uncle Ben's with some fake Sazon thrown on. Beans were out of a can with no flavor whatsoever. This could be a wonderful place with better management and care with the cooking.

Derek D.

Yelp
Decent food- cool little hidden place with nice atmosphere- though the brightly lit serve-yourself soda machine/refigerator and cheap table number signs kinda kills what could otherwise almost pass for a classier sit down place and not just a "to go" burrito joint. Burritos were good- though the online menu you'll find seems like it has their prices from ten years ago. Also they you ask "Would you like a basket of chips and salsa?" and then charge $4.00 for it (when 90% of Mexican restaurant always give them complimentary- its basically a standard) its a little bit of a bummer and takes away from what would otherwise be a great first impression. Little things like that hurt a restaurant. I would go back, but I'd probably say "no" to the chips. My burrito also ended up being more than the menu said it was, by a few bucks.

Yelp
Wow! Let me say I've had a handful of authentic Mexican food from restaurants but this one truly hits number one for us! The rice! The meats! The beans! Everything hits the spot on with flavor, price and outstanding customer service! The selection for lunch specials is very open, pretty much anything you want is on the menu! I love this place! Highly recommended!

Yelp
Looking for a good Mexican food restaurant and this one was perfect! As someone from Southern California, I didn't know what to expect from a New England place... but definitely worth it. They said the chicken was seasoned well and my mouth was on fire.... but it was really good. Too spicy for me... but as you see, it didn't hinder the rating at all. GIVE THEM A SHOT! You won't be disappointed.

Haleigh B.

Yelp
Service was excellent, our server was very nice and attentive! Food was really good. We got a chorizo burrito and chicken enchiladas (verde) and both were fantastic. Lovely atmosphere will go again!:)

Yelp
I tried this restaurant for I had read the reviews. What I wasn't ready for was the actual food. Owner was extremely friendly and it pains me to write this however others need to know. I ordered the chips and salsa with a side of guacamole. The guacamole came in a very tiny container, the salsa came in a nice size cup and the chips were slightly warm but a bit stale. I also ordered the chicken enchiladas. It came with rice, pinto beans and I ordered the green tomatillo sauce. What I wasn't ready for was that it was sour. Now I always speak up when food is bad however I felt guilty that I didn't like this man's food. I opened up one of the chicken enchiladas and found rotten chicken. I paid the bill and unfortunately I will not be back.

Yelp
We stopped in Manchester on our way home from Montreal and we decided to give this Taqueria a try. The tacos were delicious. I got one Al Pastor and one with Carne Asada. The Asada was just delicious. They have a salsa bar, where you can pick any of three salsas. I was partial to the green spicy salsa. My BF got the Quesadilla al pastor and he also LOVED it... The staff is friendly and the place is clean and close to downtown. A must try if you are looking for good tacos in Manchester.

Yelp
Wow! This place should be shut down. The food is terrible. Similar to warmed up old left overs. The people working there (two guys) were ignorant and rude. If you don't like your job, find a new one. The room is dark and uninviting. Don't use the toilet. Save your money. Go to the Mexican place down the street.

Yelp
I was happy to finally get to Consuelo's after it being on my bookmark list for way too long now. It was lunchtime, a stopped in for a pork burrito, my usual choice. The place was busy, with most of the tables full. I got the pork verde burrito, which totally under whelmed me. The burrito literally was falling apart as I slowly unwrapped the foil. The flavors did not pop, rice, bean, pork, salsa it just did not come together both in flavor and physically. I thought it was great that they had beer and wine (Mexican imports, more than just Corona too!). Solid 2.5 stars. I think I may be spoiled by Tacos Lupita and Anna's.

Christopher M.

Yelp
We really used to like this place. But the past few times I've gone in I was treated more like an inconvenience then a customer. And the food is not as good anymore. I understand staffing issues but at least acknowledge customers instead of ignoring them for 10 minutes. I won't go back.
google avatar

Yelp
BBQ quesadilla and sangria all for $15! What a nice little place in downtown Manchester. The staff and owner were incredibly friendly and you can feel the pride that they share in this establishment. Quick and cheap, Consuelos is a must visit place for lunch or dinner!

David H.

Yelp
I am originally from Mexico City and this is the most authentic Mexican I've had in New England. Excellent food.
google avatar

Yelp
You can not go wrong with Consuelo's! To me it's one of the best little spots in the entire city. Authentic Mexican food in a relaxed, over the counter atmosphere. We started with the Nachos - Tortilla chips covered with Monterey Jack and cheddar cheese, sour cream, guacamole, jalapenos & fresh salsa ($6.00). They were simply delicious. My friend had the Grilled Vegetables Burrito - zucchini, summer squash, carrots and onions ($6.00). This burrito is huge, and absolutely yummy. I had the always superb Pastor Taco - spiced pork served with onions and cilantro ($6.75). Three soft flour taco, crisped slightly. The spiced pork is melt in your mouth with the perfect kick to them. You will need a few napkins because the grease from the pork drip through your fingers (I favorite part is the grease of these)! Great selection of Mexican beers...I had Modelo Especial and my friend as a Dos Equis. You will not be disappointed here! 5-Stars!!

Yelp
Came here for the first time ever tonight! I got takeout, when I called the man on the phone was very nice. I asked for a sandwich and he explained they were out of bread, but he seemed very genuine about being sorry that he was out. I went ahead and orders some tacos, a quesadilla and a burrito, as well as dip. When I went to pick it up, the place was slow but it is a Monday night. There was another person waiting and we both got our food pretty quickly. The man was again VERY nice, I grabbed some sodas as well. The food was 5/5, all obviously homemade. I will absolutely be back, definitely worth the stop in!

Yelp
Came here for a quick bite with the crew. We were greeted by one of the most happiest man ever. The food was amazing and had huge quantities. The burrito, nacho and quesadilla is to die for. Pro gamer tip: Do not tip because that is taken as a disrespectful act in their culture.
google avatar

Angela T.

Yelp
Cute place with affordable, delicious tacos. The customer service is awesome, the food comes out quickly, and I always leave feeling full. All the tacos I've tried here have been good, but I particularly like the carne asada--flavorful, with fresh ingredients. This is also one of the only places I can find imported apple soda, so I always snag one of those when I'm here, too.

Cara B.

Yelp
Been here many times . I think it's a brother team that own it . Small bar area with ten or so tables . Very clean and service always good . Never had a cocktail but I think they have a full bar . Mexican soda in cooler Quesadillas are great ! The taco plate also good -2 tacos with beans and rice , Taco salad is good, the chicken tortilla soup is yummy . Burritos also tasty. Only takes about ten minutes if you call in an order!

Eva T.

Yelp
This is a great place to have a simple Mexican meal. The owner and his brother are very friendly and take good care of their customers. The food is very good and so are the prices. Check them out!

Yelp
We had a late lunch at Consuelo's during Eats Week and ordered each of the two specials ($10 each): 1) Lupita's Pork in Red Chile Sauce, Rice, Refried Beans, Drink & Piece of Tres Leches cake 2) Mexico City Chicken Enchiladas, Rice, Refried Beans, Drink & Piece of Tres Leches cake This casual place is nicely decorated with bright yellow walls and wood table seating. It's an order at the counter place and they bring the food out. The menu offers basic Mexican fare for under $10. They charge extra for chips and salsa ($2.25). Cooler beverages include bottled Coke products, and Jarritos Mexican sodas. Coffee, tea, juices, bottled beer and wine coolers are available too. See the menu at http://www.consuelostaqueria.com/ The food was brought out to our table in under 10 minutes. The food portions were modest and not huge. However the food was hot and fresh and tasted DELISH with the refreshingly cold bottled Mexican sodas. The Tres Leches cake was sweet and refreshing with the 3 kinds of milk. While we were dining, the friendly staff even chatted with us to check up on the meal. Consuelo's gets a solid 4 stars. This place has potential and could be even better if they had a full liquor license and served margaritas, frozen drinks, and other cocktails.

Yelp
Best taqueria in the northeast... honestly. I live in Boston now and still can't find anything as good. Also the owners are amazing and make you feel great!

Yelp
The guys cooking on the line still call me Senor Leche, although I no longer bring Martine (the owner) farm fresh milk. This gives you an idea just how friendly Consuelo's is. The food is, as others have said, simple straightforward and good. Folks I know that know Mexican food tell me that Consuelo's is authentic. All the ingredients are fresh. The prices are reasonable. I've had every burrito on the menu, but my favorite is Burrito Carnitas. The pork is fall apart tender. Martine tells me he braises it with beer. I get the regular sized portion, the grande is too big for me. My kids like Silas Sandwich (quesadilla with chicken and cheese).

Eric G.

Yelp
Putrescent experience at Consuelo's this past Friday. Headed in looking for a quick lunch with two friends and we ordered right away at the counter. The tables are awkwardly set up, with not much room to maneuver between tables. I noticed it was also hot in the restaurant, as there didn't seem to be any air conditioning. My friends were called up to get their meals in order, but mine seemed to be taking longer. I waited, and after about 15 minutes had passed and my friends had pretty much finished their meals, I walked up to the counter to see about the delay. The guy behind the counter said "it's coming, it's coming" regarding my meal when I asked about it. I explained that due to time constraints (we needed to get back to work), if they had forgotten my meal somehow and hadn't started making it, I'd just like my money back. This request wasn't really acknowledged and the guy just insisted it was coming. Then I was asked what my order was. How could he know it was coming if he didn't know what I asking about? Then separately a minute later, I was asked what my name was...and again what my order was. Turns out they somehow lost the order, so I had to tell them what it was (even though I had just said I would skip it if they hadn't started). At this point, I just restated my order and got it to go. When I got back to work to eat my burrito, I discovered that not only did they forget to include my two sides (sour cream and guac) that I paid for, but this burrito was not the grande version nor the "wet" version (with green enchilada sauce), which cost $2 extra. I wasn't surprised since they had lost the ticket with these specifics. But the best was yet to come as I bit into a huge BONE (see pic) in the burrito. I am speechless at how inept this place is on so many levels. So not only did they forget my original order leaving me to watch my friends eat lunch, but they wouldn't admit they forgot my order, got the order wrong the second time around, and left a bone in the burrito (which was pretty bland by the way). There are at least three other Mexican restaurants close by - skip over this dump and try one of those instead.

Yelp
Had lunch here today with my wife and son. Good food, great prices, very friendly staff. The food tasted authentic. Prices were very reasonable, service was fast. Really enjoy our lunch here.

Yelp
Always good, friendly staff. Fresh made and affordable. Authentic Taqueria with a friendly staff. Portions are large, but not overly so. Bring your appetite. Not a wide selection on the menu, but that's not surprising considering the size and the focus. I've had a wide variety of items over the years, and I've never been disappointed. Good Sangria

Yelp
Love love love Consuelos! I have tried many things all excellent and flavorful. Service is friendly, welcoming. Consuelos is consistently delicious, when busy or quiet The food is always on point, a favorite spot In Manchester!

Yelp
One of those very few hole-in-the-wall places that makes Manchester seem like a larger and more cultured city. This is just about as authentic as you'll get here. The staff are Mexican immigrants, the music is stuff Mexicans actually listen to (from mariachi to norteño and banda), and they go beyond the usual Dos Equis etc. and have a more authentic drink selection. The menu is designed to cater to a more gringo audience expecting a standard burrito joint, but does have some more authentic deviations: tortas (Mexican sandwiches), tamales (seasonal), tacos al pastor (popular in areas of Mexico with a Lebanese diaspora). Food is top-notch, and wicked cheap. You'll find them a good step below Chipotle for much more authenticity. The staff is super friendly, efficient, chatty, and likely to form a personal relationship. Definitely a must for a regular spot.

Yelp
I don't know how Consuelo's doesn't have five stars! Their staff is beyond friendly, especially Martin! It's clear that their employees love what they do and the food they create. The chips and guacamole are delicious and fresh. The quesadillas are to die for! This is my go to spot for feel good food and a nice catch up with Martin! I highly recommend Consuelo's to anyone in the area!
