When it comes to seafood in Scranton, Cooper's is hands down the best in the city. I was raised in nearby Dunmore, and on very special occasions my family would dine here (My dear Dad wasn't rolling in money). Their bar appears to have an amazing selection, and there are photos and paraphernalia everywhere, and I mean everywhere, so one can easily spend several hours perusing the walls and inspecting the innumerable photos and memorabilia of Scranton. There's even a picture of Bill and Hilary taken when they dined there, but please don't hold that against the restaurant.
I suppose if one is seated in a booth, you can be romantic with someone, but there is significant hustle and bustle and such extensive visual and auditory stimulation that it may be difficult to gaze romantically into someone's eyes and have a quiet and intimate experience., but what do I know?
Outdoor dining is an option, weather permitting, and they do accommodate private groups. Being a seafood establishment, figures of pirates abound, and on the rooftop sits a massive octopus which was constructed by an acquaintance of mine who currently resides in Lexington, Virginia.
I've enjoyed a meal at Cooper's thrice in recent months whilst attending to family matters in Scranton, and would certainly return when I'm in the environs again. Don't expect this to be a cheap meal. Our tab for 2 people was between $50-60 for each of those meals, and we imbibed no alcoholic libation. The place is crowded most days of the week, however they seem to seat people efficiently and have adequate staff who for the most part are quite pleasant. That was certainly the case with our servers.
In summary, if you want to treat yourself ( who doesn't?) or treat someone else, enjoy seafood or Americana, and are anywhere near Scranton, definitely do check out Cooper's!
