Some dishes are great, and some are misses. Service was good. This place is more for those that drink alcohol. The boyfriend said the drinks were spot on. He had a Caipirinha and a seasonal cucumber drink, and he loved both. I don't drink, and their non-alcohol menu is $14 for a mocktail, so that's a hell no for me. Water is $0 and my choice. The drinks are crazy pricey, but I guess it's worth trying one, if you're a drinker.
Appetizers:
Pierogies - $18 - This is a must have. They are delicious, and nothing like the crappy frozen ones everyone has tried at the grocery store. Very good, everyone should try this. 5/5 stars.
Chicken Wings - $16 - They are supposed to be korean bbq flavored, whatever that means. They are ok, but just ok. The first one I tried was a drum that was way overcooked, but every other wing was cooked perfectly. The flavor is more delicate, and it doesn't taste like much, which I don't expect when I hear korean bbq. I personally wouldn't get it again. Most of the stars comes from how well the wings were cooked (minus my first wing). 3/5 stars.
Entrees:
House of Tallow Burger - $18 - So the boyfriend wanted to go all out. He got a triple patty (+$4), add the egg on top (+$2), and added the potatoes and aioli (+2) on the side. This was the heaviest but most delicious burger you'll ever eat. You might as well go all out too, because the price is pretty reasonable, and the flavor is just outstanding. But, it will sit heavy on your stomach for awhile. 5/5 stars.
Tuna Poke Bowl - $24 - Here, again, we have a problem with delicate and lacking of flavor. The tuna was fine, no fishy flavor. The problem is the rest of the bowl. The rice was wet, like really really wet. It's supposed to come with gochujang aioli, but I didn't taste any of it. I think I saw a little bit of it, but most of it was put on the already wet rice. I didn't see any chili oil either. I've had many poke bowls in my life, and this is just a bad attempt at a poke bowl. I guess 1 star for the tuna, and I feel like I'm being generous with the one star. Don't get this dish. 1/5 stars.
Desserts:
Seasonal Apple Dessert - $10? I forget - This was pretty good. Nice pastry, good sugar coated nuts, and good bourbon caramel sauce. I'd eat this again. 5/5 stars.
Vanilla Cheesecake - $10 - Disgusting. Something went absolutely wrong here. It tastes like someone forgot to add sugar and eggs. The raspberry sauce was good, and the vanilla cream was good. The cheesecake was absolutely horrible. The waitress was kind enough to take it off our bill. This was inedible, that's how bad the cheesecake was. I hope someone screwed up making it, because if this is the normal taste, you should stay far far away. 0/5 stars.
As I said, some were hits, but the misses were really misses. It would be nice if they had a drink menu for those that can't drink alcohol, but I guess I'm stuck with water. No, a $14 mocktail menu does not count. Get the pierogies, burger, and whatever the special seasonal dessert they have. Skip the wings, poke bowl, and definitely skip the cheesecake.
Oh, the atmosphere was interesting. Dark theme, but there's some lights for the table. We were first sat at a table where the lights shining on the table were very bright and hurting our eyes. We had to move a table over where the lights didn't reflect so much.
