16 Seriously Interesting Nordic Hotels

"A naïve observer might expect a five-star ski hotel in the mountains of northern Sweden to be a stark, stimulating, modernist sort of place, where the drama of the cutting-edge architecture and stylish, urbane interiors is only heightened by the sublime alpine landscape. This is one of those times when the naïve observer is exactly right. Mount Åreskutan is by some measures Sweden’s top ski town, and it’s here that you’ll find the stark, stimulating, modernist Copperhill Mountain Lodge." - Mark Fedeli

We recently stayed at this hotel and had an incredible experience overall. The property offers outstanding views, and we were lucky enough to catch the Northern Lights right from our room – truly magical! The food was fantastic, and the service , especially at the restaurant was impeccable, making every meal a delight.||However, there was one downside. We had booked treatment packages weeks in advance, but they were canceled unexpectedly, and unfortunately, no replacement slots could be arranged. This was disappointing, as we were really looking forward to the spa experience.||Despite this setback, the beautiful location, excellent food, and attentive service made our stay memorable.

A wonderful getaway. Amazing staff, beautiful Spa and the breakfast was incredible. Bjorn and Rasmus were extremely helpful and great to get to know for a bit. Don’t miss the mushrooms at breakfast. It was very sad to depart

We loved every moment of our Christmas stay at Cooperhill. The design! The location! The food! And the staff couldn't do enough to make us feel valued, even extending their hospitality to our grumpy bulldog, Winston. Would highly recommend a stay here!

Friendly staff, always help us, the restaurant has 3 different menu, we have been there for 4 days and almost tasted all the main course. Really like the French fries, and the drinks there. They have shuffle bus running between Björnen och hotell

TL;DR: I liked the Spa, the rooms and the food. They should put up more signs and clearer explanations to guide newcomers through the ski flow. I would recommend the stay for 2+ people, or ones with a car, otherwise options directly in the city are more practical. The Copperhill is a beautiful hotel at the east of Åre. The location is 10 minutes away by car from Åre center, where the action will be at (skiing & nightlife). Without a car, transportation can become quite costly, as one Uber ride costs around 350 kr, while the local taxi was slightly more at 390 kr. Although the hotel offered a shuttle service to Björnen with a connection bus to Åre (Skistar), the shuttle service was unreliable. Despite multiple confirmations, the shuttle failed to depart one morning, we were picked up late, and cars got stuck in the snow. Ultimately, Uber proved to be the only reliable transportation. Storing your skiing gear wasn't as straight forward either - the heated lockers are assigned per room number and i had to activate that feature at the reception. The Spa was a nice retreat with a sufficient setup - a swimming pool, a relaxing warm pool, an inviting outdoor hot tub, and a Finnish sauna. A delightful surprise was the drink-friendly policy - there's something unexpectedly enjoyable about sipping a cold beer in the sauna. During my stay, kids were sometimes a little noisy, or the mid 20s a little chatty. If you're looking for some genuine downtime, timing is everything (open 06:00 - 20:00)

We really like this place, this time we was very pleased with food and service. Last time the rooms which were pet friendly was a bit too simple and outdated but since it changed owner I do not know.

We had a great 2 nights stay in a Zinc apartement, a apartement with a good size for us, a family of 5. The view was amazing from the room. Very good beds, and nicely decorated. ||The Hotel is calm and quiet. The spaarea with the pool is also a good relaxing place. I thank they could have included the admision fee to the poolarea in the room, also for admissions after 10 am. ||The servicestaff was very friendly, helpful and servicemineded.||We had a great stay!

Yelp
Very nice building and rooms. SLOWEST SERVICE EVER. I've traveled a lot and I've never had as slow service as this ever. (Ok at lunch but dinner is a disaster.) Had to wait almost two hours for main course that never came. We just left. That was the 5th dinner. The four previous were better but still very slow. Worthless. Don't come here. Way too over priced.

Yelp
Copperhill Mountain Lodge is perched on top of hill with truly breathtaking views. It's a large very open layout that's been thoughtfully designed and decorated. The spa was nice, but if possible I would only give 3 stars. Nothing too highlight aside from again, the views. Breakfast was very nice with lots to choose from, pretty typical Swedish spread. No surprises there. Staff was very friendly, kind and accommodating. I struggle with hotels that have the reputation and acclaim of being top notch but there is no one to tend to luggage on staff. Having to lug your bags to and from the car up to a room just doesn't sit well with me and greatly changes your experience. Tip for hotels: hire bellhops!
