NYC’s New Restaurant Openings

"New American. Wine Bar. West Village. Sure, you’ve probably read that before—maybe even on this guide—but Cora is from the people behind Figure Eight (and in their former Silver Apricot space), and they’re focusing on adult grape juice made by North American producers. They’ve got about 20 options by the glass, and seasonal wine bar food, like tilefish crudo with sungold tomatoes and husk cherries or chicken liver paté with house-baked sourdough." - will hartman

NYC's Most Exciting Fall Openings

"A New American wine bar in the West Village. Surely that must have been on your 2024 restaurant bingo card. Cora is from the people who brought you Figure Eight, one of the more inventive dining options in the West Village, and it’ll have over 20 wines by the glass, with an extensive list of American wines by the bottle." - bryan kim

The Best New Restaurants in NYC

"I regret that Silver Apricot, Simone Tong’s charming Cornelia Street Chinese restaurant, is no more, but Cora is a happy successor. (Tong decamped; managing partner Emmeline Zhao stayed.) Casual where Apricot was quietly chef-y, Cora seems in some ways a more natural fit for the narrow, slightly space-age space: A few nibbly dishes and a main or two, with enough esoteric touches to remind you who’s still in charge. There’s seaweed in the cavatelli and goat kefir on the buttered radishes. But my favorite items are those that might’ve shown up on your dinner table at home: sunflower pull-apart rolls, crunchy rainbow-trout Milanese. Would you have spooked that trout with smoked gribiche at your place? Probably not. But that’s the hairline difference between homey and home. Cora lives there." - Grub Street

Google
my favorite part of the restaurant was that they have a large selection of wines by the carafe so you don’t have to commit to a bottle while still being able to try a variety of wines. food was very good - I’d prioritize the carpaccio, nduja, large salad, Cora dog and the cavatelli. Service is very friendly and helpful.

Came here with a group of 5 for my birthday dinner & did the tasting menu for $78 per person and the food was fantastic! Would highly recommend the tasting menu, so much food was severed so it was definitely worth it and was so full by the end. The tasting menu allows you to try a little bit of everything and all the flavor profiles were delicious. The wagyu carpaccio & big salad & burrata mix were definitely some highlights. Also loved being able to try 3 desserts. Quiet atmosphere & our waitress was very attentive but the interior inside is a vibe & will definitely be coming back for the tasting menu again.

I dined at Cora on a quiet Tuesday night. It seems they will soon be closing on Mondays and Tuesdays, which might explain why the restaurant was quite empty when we arrived. Despite the lack of crowd, we had a pleasant dining experience overall. We started with their hot dog, which had fantastic toppings that elevated the dish. However, the bread fell a bit below my expectations—it could have been fresher or more flavorful. The tuna dish was a standout, with a unique and delightful combination of passionfruit and peppers that really hit the mark. It’s a dish I’d recommend for anyone looking for something special and different. We also ordered the big salad, which was a pleasant surprise. The flavors were quite different from what I’ve had at other restaurants. It was incredibly fresh, and the herbs combined beautifully with the sauce, making it very refreshing and enjoyable. In addition, we tried their bread, which paired well with the rest of our meal. The pasta was another highlight for me; it was packed with strong garlic flavor, which I love, though it leaned a bit on the salty side. The pasta itself had a wonderfully chewy texture, though it was not quite al dente. I personally enjoyed the texture and overall flavor profile. The atmosphere was admittedly quite empty, but the vibe was decent, and it didn’t detract too much from our experience. Service was okay—not particularly memorable, but nothing to complain about either. I do hope they expand their menu to offer more food options in the future. Overall, Cora has some great dishes and unique flavors that make it worth a visit, especially if they can refine a few elements and broaden their menu. I’d definitely consider returning to see how they evolve.

Fantastic spot! Very cute on the inside and peaceful in the back garden where we sat too. Everything tasted amazing with a great mix of flavor and textures. My photos don’t do the food justice!

Was in town recently and absolutely fell in love with everything about this place; the ambiance, service and food. We sat in the garden area in the back which was nice with the fresh air and lighting. There were 4 of us and we had: - tartare - Cora dog - ricotta toast - cavatelli - sunflower rolls - big salad - potatoes - crudo - gataeu basque All were so good, you can’t go wrong. But my favorites were the basque, crudo and cavatelli. Crudo was refreshing, cavatelli was balanced and not heavy, and the basque was perfection. I love how they make trying wine more friendly where they serve 4 oz glasses at an affordable price. We were able to try a few and the server gave an amazing recommendation. Service was amazing, too. Would definitely come back!

This is the neighborhood restaurant everyone wishes they had. Service is both friendly and extremely knowledgeable. Incredible selection of thoughtfully curated wines, mostly from the U.S. and by small producers. The food is insane! It might look like something you know, but everything is so unique, so many plays on textures and temperatures, and they make EVERYTHING in-house. From the bread and pasta to the vinegars and cheese and butter! I don't know how they do it. We got the "Let Us Cook!" option where they just serve you what they think is best on the menu right now, and it was such a seasonal, stunning meal. There's also a super cute garden that I want to just spend all evening sipping wine in when the weather is nice. We'll be here all the time!

Cozy wine bar with great food! The Japanese sweet potato dish with labneh, crispy chicken and chili oil was delicious. Sit inside - back garden space is underwhelming.

Google
This is what an NYC wine bar should aspire to be!!! The space is simple and elegant, intimate but with great energy. Every dish was perfectly executed. Wine selection was fantastic. And service was super friendly and didn’t make me feel like a doofus for asking what to pair with our meal. (Plus, their plateware is beautiful and I love details like that.) What a fantastic addition to Cornelia St, I can’t wait to come back!

Yelp
TLDR: must gets: the trout Milanese and tuna crudo Yum! what a delicious meal at Cora. I went with my friend to dinner last night - the restaurant is quite small so the vibes were cozy. The drink prices for new york were very reasonable and we both got a carafe of wine. Their wine list is small but mighty. The service was also friendly and quick. for food, we got the tuna crudo which was PHENOMENAL. The tuna itself was slightly tough but the flavors were certainly there - It was smoky and sweet and complex. We also got the stracciatella which was delicious. The grilled sourdough that it came with was very yummy. We then got the crispy potatoes and the trout Milanese. The crispy potatoes were pretty decent but the trout was the star of the show. It was incredibly flavorful and well cooked. It was around $100 per person but we both got two carafes and were stuffed by the time we left the restaurant. Overall I see a strong future for this restaurant. I think some of the dishes could be improved but they have some really stellar options.

Yelp
A very cute space with a unique menu and solid wine list. I'll definitely be coming back here again! The space is very skinny and you should get a reservation, but there's a cute garden in the back as well. Each dish was super unique and my two favorites were the cavatelli with squid and Calabrian chilis and the Japanese sweet potato with labneh and chili. Both were spicy, fun, and unexpected. The beef tartare was very good and the toast it was on was extremely tasty. The scallops and the salad were both only okay. I love their wine by the glass list, I was feeling quite basic and really enjoyed the orange wines, which feels right for a date night in the west village. Can't wait to come back!
