The Newest Restaurants In Philadelphia - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"A new pizza and pasta spot has arrived in University City. Corio, open for both lunch and dinner, offers wings, NYC-style pies, and dishes like squash risotto and crab bucatini for both. There’s also a full bar, so you can expect wines and typical cocktails like old fashioneds—but they’re only available in the evening. We checked out Corio and added it to the Hit List." - candis mclean, alison kessler

Corio - Review - University City - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"A sit-down pizza and pasta spot isn’t really a thing in University City—someone probably thought the only way undergrads and doctors want to eat is on the go. But Corio, with its laidback dining space, pop music playing from the speakers, and a menu of Italian-American dishes, is here to dispel that theory. The Neapolitan-style pizza features light and airy crusts (our favorite is the creamy potato and green garlic), the gemelli has a satisfying creamy and nutty mix, and the saucy wings have a delicious heat thanks to the blend of hot honey and Calabrian chili. It’s an easygoing place that works well for both lunch and dinner, surrounded by drinks and a few bucatini-obsessed friends. Plus, the front of the house operates as a takeout shop, if you insist on proving the original theory correct. photo credit: CANDIS R. MCLEAN photo credit: CANDIS R. MCLEAN photo credit: CANDIS R. Very good pizza, flavorful pasta and nice ambience. I wish the pasta was a little more cooked, but other than that great place! They were also accommodating to our dietary preferences.

Just went here and was so happy with my experience! We had the hoagie salad to start which was delicious. The potato pesto pizza was so refreshing and it was honestly some of the best pizza crust I’ve had in Philly. The decor is really sleek and a welcome addition to University city. The service was top notch and I’m excited to come back !

My friend and I came for dinner last night and absolutely loved it! First off, the place itself is lovely and bright, with a great bar and ambiance. There's plenty of parking in the area, which is huge. The service was top notch, from the hostess to the server, and our food and drinks were delicious. It does currently have a limited menu, however, I'll take a well-executed limited menu over a so-so large menu any day. The pricing is on par for the area, but the experience makes it worth every penny. Overall, I highly recommend and will definitely be back!

Great twists on traditional pizza and pasta dishes. Very cool space. Laid back but still high quality. So glad to see this place come to the neighborhood.

Yelp
The interior of this place is very cute. Gives a modern cafe vibe but still classy. Love it! The waitress was awesome and so were the rest of the staff. We ordered the pizza by mistake thinking it was a pasta dish and they were able to change it. They also give us a piece to try. Very appreciated for what they did. Wings: 5/5 downright one of my favorite. Crispy and very well flavored. It can be a bit spicy for some people. I would compare the spice to be closer to a habanero. It was sweet and spicy; burst full of flavor. A must try. Short Rib Sandwich: 5/5 The meat cooked very well and well seasoned. Love the salsa verde and the sauce. It had the right amount of tangy bite to keep you eating more. Only thing would be that it gets pretty messy. Gemelli: 4/5 cooked to a perfect Al dente. Creamy and delicious. Spicy Bolognese Pizza: 4/5 You gotta eat this as soon as it comes out. Love the crust. Gives you a thin pizza crispiness. The flavors are great and works well. I love it. Only thing would be that it was pretty oily. Might be a turn off for the people that don't like too much oil. Still a great pizza. Overall: Amazing place despite a small lunch menu. There is only one pasta on the lunch menu which is the Gemelli. The rest are pizza just to be warned. I wish they had more pasta options on the lunch menu. Overall you can't go wrong with the food here. It's great!

Yelp
While I totally appreciate that this spot is new, I do think it has some growing pains to go through before realizing its identity. The menu itself has a few things that could be interesting. We started with the Caesar: there was a bit of a paucity of dressing, the lettuce wedge was a bit hard to eat, and while I fully recognize that Caesar dressing has anchovies in it I am not a fan of serving actual anchovies on top of the salad as I don't feel like it adds anything and if anything detracts from the experience. Spicy bolognese pizza was fine, nothing terribly special and crust could be a bit firmer as the pizza itself was a bit floppy. The bucatini with crab was a total miss, which was disappointing. The sauce totally overpowered any opportunity to taste what (little?) crab there was. The pricing is a bit on the higher end, which could be fine if the food were a bit more elevated. But what I think needs the most work is the overall personality of the restaurant. Everyone was nice enough. But it felt like I was in a hotel lobby the whole time in terms of decor, interactions, etc., and I feel that they would benefit from a bit more personality.

Yelp
Wonderful experience overall. We were seated promptly. Staff was attentive and courteous. Summer tomato pizza was delicious. Atmosphere was lively without being overly loud.
