The Best Chinese Food in Nashville | Eater Nashville

"A consistent win for casual, family-friendly dine-in or takeout, this strip mall success story in Brentwood provides stellar Sichuan food. The menu’s standard Chinese American offerings like orange chicken are done well, but make sure to branch out by ordering from the traditional side of the menu. Standouts include crispy scallion pancakes, stir-fried squid, roast pork belly with mustard greens, and chile oil-coated crispy frog legs. Many menu items list “spicy!” next to them, so order a cold tea to cool down after." - Ellen Fort

This is our favorite authentic Chinese restaurant in the area!! We usually order the fish fillet with tender tofu, eggplant with garlic sauce and crispy fish fillet with hot oil. Everything always comes out piping hot. The owners/staff are always so friendly! The restaurant itself is cozy. If you haven't already eaten here, you've got to try this place out.

Google
Cozy, homey “no frills” spot for authentic Sichuan Chinese food. We had the mapo tofu, spicy boiled fish, shredded pork with brown tofu, and stir fried green beans. Everything made fresh to order, generous portions. A Nashville gem for Chinese cuisine!

Google
I have visited this place twice in a week. That's how good the food is. There are 2 sides of the menu. The main ones is more like an American-Chinese menu like Orange chicken. The second side is the real deal Chinese cuisine. The first visit I came here alone so I only ordered stir-fried eggplant and beef tendon and shank with hot oil. The portions were pretty big. I had a leftovers for 2 other meals. The second visit I brought my husband with me so we could order more food! We ordered roasted pork belly with mustard greens, stir-fried string beans, classic dumplings, stir fried eggplant, and clams with black beans. Wow...everything was delicious. The food here has its natural umami flavor. They are not drenched in sugar and all the sauces. Some people might consider it as "bland" but for us it was delicious! Well, I don't know about the other American-Chinese dishes since I didn't order them. It might be sweet like it always is. Maybe try it yourself :) Overall, the restaurant was clean and the service was excellent.

First time here and it was spectacular! Teriyaki chicken is so sweet but delicious which makes u full faster. Gonna order more later!

Google
This might be the single greatest Chinese place I’ve been to! It’s served family style and the food was amazing. 10/10 recommend The green onion pancake as an appetizer was perfection. The squid was phenomenal in texture and taste!

Google
Ordered delivery and the food was delivered in a reasonable period of time, still very hot. The portions are substantial and the quality of the food was amazing! All items were fantastic- spring rolls, egg drop soup, and the Singapore Rice noodles with chicken, shrimp and beef. We will definitely order from here again.

Google
Absolutely amazing! Got the crab Rangoon andit was delicious. Highly recommend! The service was great, good prices, high quality food. Got the lunch special and it came with a lot. I’m from Ohio, and miss the food already!

Google
Food was good. I was craving a little spicy food, I ordered fish filet with tender tofu, and it delivered the desired spicyness. Though I felt it was a bit salty. But the tofu was so soft, I never had this soft tofu before, enjoyed the jigglyness of the tofu. The dish had a lot of fish too. My husband didn't want any spice, he ordered pineapple chicken and he said it was perfect for him. The service was fast, and the ambience was very homey and peaceful. We'll definitely visit many more times.

Yelp
The service here is excellent and always courageous. The ambiance has never changed in 12 yrs. Same table setup and very low noise levels. Good lighting and a good place to eat and have a conversation. I cannot say enough about how good the food is. Every dish is consistent. The hot and sour soup was as good today as it was when I first ate it 12 years ago. The chengdu beef was excellent as always and the same with the pepper chicken. If it says spicy and you don't specify that you don't want it spicy you need to speak up. Please patronize this family run business I promise you will not be disappointed. It has been 12 years worth of meal here and I have never been sorry once.

Yelp
This place has a been a neighborhood staple serving the Brentwood and Nolensville community since I have live on this side of town. The food is always good and always consistent. The staff is very friendly and quite frankly is hard to enjoy Chinese food anywhere else. They have a huge menu. I recommend you going away from your standard order and try different things.

Yelp
Chicken seems to be fresh. Friendly ladies when picking up orders. Clean and not loud, would dine in if I had time. Price is average for this area and food is flavorful.

Yelp
We'd heard about this place from our friends who have traveled extensively and lived in China as being the best Chinese restaurant in the greater Nashville area. After having lived here for nearly 15 years (and having lived in NYC for 7) I have to agree. The food was wonderful and very different than any other Chinese food I've had in Nashville. It didn't resemble the predictable, over-sauced Americanized Chinese food that can be found everywhere. It isn't high-brow cuisine - just a very nice, lovingly prepared version of Szechuan food. The service was great - our server was exceedingly kind with our daughter who had recently learned a couple of Chinese children's songs, singing a couple of songs along with her. All in all, we loved this place and will look for an excuse to come back.
google avatar

Yelp
Good quality ingredients. Well prepared fare. A bit expensive but better than most Chinese restaurants in Nashville.

Yelp
We have been coming here for many years! We make the 45 minute drive from west Nashville for the best authentic Chinese food in Nashville. The food is amazing and so are the people. We always get the same things and add a different dish to try each time we go. We try to go once a month if we are lucky. We always get the hot pot fish soup, hot pepper chicken, potato threads, and the egg plant. Highly recommend this place!

Yelp
I crave their beef noodle soup. The broth is so tasty and great when the weather starts cooling down. All the food is authentic and the owners are so friendly. It's in a shopping complex so my family avoided for a long time. We regret we didn't find this place sooner. It's now my go to chinese restaurant whenever we are in Brentwood

Davis L.

Yelp
The dishes are fresh, delicious and aromatic with fast services. The waiters and owner friendly and openly welcome. The desks are not crowded and well arranged. More carry out order than sit in services. The parking lot is spacious and clean. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Brentwood areas

Yelp
Bland. Orange chicken: if you remove the breading and taste the chicken, it tastes like boiled poultry with hardly any flavor in it. It could definitely use more seasoning. Mongolian chicken: where's the spice?! Where's the umami flavor?! Very disappointed.
google avatar

Jensen M.

Yelp
This is more than your takeout Chinese joint. While they have all the American Chinese classics, their Szechuan menu is tasty and are reasonably priced. They balance nicely between the southern regulars and the Chinese locals looking for something familiar (I don't fit either). Service is efficient and we will be back.
google avatar

Yelp
Farmers with Beef is our family favorite. This is the best quality Asian cafe in the area.

Scott H.

Yelp
Great food! So convenient! I went in the first time to see how good the food was, and now I'm a repeat customer. In fact... I'm going to order again right now.

Nicole N.

Yelp
This place never disappoints! Every time we come in we have ordered something different and we are always impressed with how good everything is. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
I do love this place but today I was insulted by the owner. I am pregnant, and starving. I ordered two meals for myself as I wanted to have leftovers for later and tomorrow, and I was laughed at, and asked "you know you ordering two meals?" Uh, duh!!!! Found this comment from her to be unacceptable and made me feel like a fat cow. We also live far from here so I wanted to try another meal I hadn't had before because we only come this way once in awhile. Learn to be respectful to people paying your bills.

Johnson Z.

Yelp
The food in the restaurant is authentic and the taste is goo. The people there are friendly and it is really really good.
google avatar

Yelp
By a massive margin, this is the best Chinese in the Nashville area. Corner Asian cafe sets themselves apart by simply offering fresh quality product. The difference is astounding. With a menu featuring both Americanized and traditional offerings they should have something for everyone. Big standout for me was the chongqing spicy chicken. This was the best iteration of this dish I've ever had.
google avatar

Ashley H.

Yelp
This is a great local Asian spot to order takeout in Nolensville. The food is great and I do love their crab rangoons. However, I would say they are a little over priced with a dinner portion at almost $18 where others are $12-$13 that are only 5-10 miles away. Great food, not so great prices.
google avatar

Jp V.

Yelp
I have been eating here for over 10 years. Tis was the worse meal you ever gave me. I ordered the general taos The rice was soggy, the chicken was mush, the sauce was bland and not spicy at all. I would give this meal a 1 star
google avatar

Mike K.

Yelp
This place has remained my favorite Chinese restaurant for probably 8 years or so. I'm so thankful they maintain their quality and I'll continue driving all the way down from downtown Nashville to Brentwood for their food. Chinese is so hard to find in Middle TN. I get the Chengdu Spicy Beef which has caramelized garlic slices, carrots and jalapenos together with a perfectly seared beef in a rich spicy dark sauce. So nice! I really recommend that you try it. I also love their Hot n Sour soup and lunch specials.
google avatar

Blair S.

Yelp
It is nice to find Corner Asian Cafe has one of the more authentic menus in the area. They also have many of the standard Chinese take-out options for those comfort/guilty pleasure meals - or in my case for kids who eat limited amounts of spice. Most of my orders include veggies and seafood from the Traditional Chinese menu. The fish filet with hot pepper and eggplant with garlic sauce are hits, and the lo mein noodles are always a hit with the the young crowd. As someone else mentions, some dishes are sweetened for the local taste, but I have had luck asking that dishes be made less sweet. The prices are reasonable and the service is generally quick. Service comes with a smile - much appreciated! Even during dinner rush, delays for carry out are minimal - usually less than what I need to drive out to their location, which is a little off my normal paths.

Yelp
Great food. Fresh ingredients! Ordered three dishes - all really delicious. We need more places like corner Asian cafe in Nashville!!!

Yelp
I have heard that this is one of the most authentic Chinese restaurants in Nashville area but sadly it is definitely not authentic. I appreciate the restaurant trying but sadly to date I haven't found any authentic Chinese restaurants in Nashville. I came here twice while working nearby. One time I had the Singapore meifun lunch special which was average. It came with a small soup which I appreciate. While I was there I saw that they had my childhood favorite dish on their chef special (aka their authentic menu) and I decided to come back for lunch on a different day. Sadly it was too sweet and tasted nothing like the authentic version of fish fragrant pork. People who work there were nice though. I'd say if you live in Nashville and are looking for an authentic Chinese restaurant then don't waste your gas driving all the way out here.

Kenneth W.

Yelp
Great food! Customer service? Not so much. Been a few times, each time treated with abruptness in placing and, receiving my order. Will not be back.

Donald C.

Yelp
Ordered off the vegetarian menu the Home Style Tofu. tasted bland also had meat in it. please do not post a vegetarian if not Last time ordering from here

Pa L.

Yelp
complete lack of ambience and extremely untidy venue. very very very rude workers who continue to insult customers in English and in their own language, horrible customer service with extremely petty behavior and absolutely no respect or care for their customers. food is increasingly more and more expensive with smaller quantities and quality that's been declining significantly, can no longer genuinely recommend, especially with all of the new and more personable restaurant options in the area.

Yelp
Corner Asian Café is probably my family's most visited restaurant in the area. They used to have a location close to our house, but after re-opening half an hour away, we still make frequent visits. Their mapo tofu is easily the best mapo tofu I have had in Nashville. The service is always quick and super friendly. I also always order the green onion pancakes, which are so amazing. I only take off a star because the food isn't super consistent, it's always good, but sometimes it's more salty or oily than it was the last time. While you may be looking for a takeout spot, their dining room is very nice, and never too crowded. I would definitely order off the back of the menu, where they have more authentic dishes, but I am sure everything they make is wonderful. Please stop in, I can't afford them having to move another half hour out ;)

Tamim H.

Yelp
Do not allow the negative reviews to guide your judgement. Corner Asian Cafe is consistently the best take out spot in the brentwood/nolensville area. I go here weekly, the staff have shown me respect and gratitude. The owner is happy to see me when I walk in and has grown to recognize my voice over the phone. She takes time to joke with me and even remembers my orders from previous visits. She enquires about my family and friends, leaving me feeling cared about for more than just my purchases. Passion like that is rare in the service industry and I greatly value the staff taking time to show care for their customers. In terms of food, I admit that once in every blue moon you may have a less pleasurable experience. Though this is the case with any place you begin to visit frequently. Indeed, breading can be over done in some fried meals, but such mistakes are not unique to this restaurant; they can happen to anyone aiming to prepare a breaded meat or poultry. Overall, the meat is high quality, the chicken is always well cooked, and orders are made to your request. I have allergies and often ask for specific changes to menu items; the staff have always accommodated my needs which I really appreciate. Likewise, the portions at Corner Asian are always superb even leaving me with left overs, and I am quite the eater. Taste is no downfall and I find meals to be well seasoned and exceptionally flavorful. Not only is the food incredibly tasting, Corner Asian Cafe also maintains its menu's cultural authenticity. In sum, I highly recommend this restaurant and its staff.

Yelp
The Hot Pepper Chicken is my favorite. The menu is huge and the food is consistently great.

Kelly G.

Yelp
This restaurant is a hidden gem! The food is absolutely delicious...every entree. The chicken is fresh and all goobies are trimmed off. ( Don't we all hate chicken goobies? :-). The food is never greasy. The Basil Chicken is my personal favorite!
google avatar

Austin n.

Yelp
Great spot for Chinese. I've only had their authentic menu but I have not been since before Covid but they have ramped up quite a bit since my last visit. The portion sizes are huge. Everything was fresh and absolutely delicious. We had the beef noodle soup, fish in hot oil, cumin lamb, ma po tofu, and classic dumplings. Needless to say it was more than enough food and it was all very delicious. It was hot, the fish was crispy, the beef was tender, and it all went well together. Service is very direct but quick. We received all of our food within 10 minutes of ordering and they were pretty busy especially with take out orders.
google avatar

Kimberly T.

Yelp
Order from the Traditional Chinese section of the menu. The beef noodle soup is SO GOOD. Some of my faves are the twice cooked pork, Chongqing hot pepper chicken (numbing heat but still enjoyable), stir fried string beans. Food is usually ready in 20 mins and it's one of the most authentic Chinese places in this area.

karaboolou n.

Yelp
It's Christmas Eve and they are continuing to take orders they are unable to fill. Originally told 30 min. When we arrived it was going to be 35 more. Then another 35. And another. The dishonesty was very disappointing.
google avatar

Torita M.

Yelp
We ordered crab rangoon, chicken on a stick, fried dumplings, beef fried rice and spring rolls. The crab rangoon were hard around the edges and filling wasn't tasty. The chicken on a stick were very bland and lacked flavor. The dumplings and spring rolls were very greasy and spring rolls lacked flavor. The beef fried rice was extremely bland. The food overall was terrible, there was so much oil it got on everything. The service was also subpar. This was our first visit to this restaurant and we will never go again. Please do yourself a favor and save your time and money and go elsewhere.
google avatar

Elizabeth B.

Yelp
This is a review based on takeout, and I will definitely stop in to eat in the future. I was blown away by the size of their menu. There are so many options for many cuisines across Asia! All of our food arrived hot and fresh. The edamame was cooked to perfection, and the entrees were pretty good. Honey chicken was crisp, but juicy. The Japanese udon noodles were great too! Loved the zucchini in there! The pad Thai was our least favorite. It just had little taste. It was so off from what I've ordered a dozen other places. Overall it was good! I can't wait to try again!
google avatar

Penny C.

Yelp
Great Sichuan cuisine with a fair price. Especially the Mongolian beef cooked very well, really authentic Sichuan cuisine. If I have space in my stomach I really want to taste all fishes on the menu.
google avatar

Donghua S.

Yelp
Another perfect meal! No need to beat around the bush -- if you want FABULOUS Sichuanese cuisine order the following dishes: Fish Filet with Hot Peppers Pork and Tofu with Oyster Sauce in Hot Pot Potato Threads in spicy vinegar sauce Doumiao (not on menu) Salt and Pepper Spareribs Five dishes for about $70 will feed four adults. Or, you'll have enough leftovers for two days! The salt and pepper Spareribs were so fantastic we ordered an extra container to take home!!! Really, do not hesitate, do not pass go, do not collect $200 -' stop playing and go enjoy an INCREDIBLY DELICIOUS meal! If you are Buddhist. all I can say only NOW, NOW, NOW!

Sheika S.

Yelp
My husband found this location online. It was a little out of our way and I wasn't sure that it would be any good. When I walked into the little corner restaurant I was shocked by how many people were there. We ordered our usual when eating Chinese and was blown away with the authentic flavors. I haven't had Chinese like this in years. This was an experience and I cannot say enough good things about Corner Asian Cafe and staff. I wish them a long, prosperous , and continued success at this fantastic restaurant. I will be back!
google avatar

Enrique C.

Yelp
Excellent and great tasting food. Food is freshly made to order and all was warm and very tasty. Service was fast and prompt.
google avatar

Ken T.

Yelp
I was excited to try this place due to the majority of reviews being good. If I were to use one word to describe my meal here l, it would be tasteless. Ok, maybe another word, underwhelming. The group ordered beef and broccoli, lo mein, and General Tso's. Not a very daring order but one that should be very easy to execute. The lo mein was by far the worst. The noodles were over cooked and very tasteless. Very little flavor. Very disappointing. The other two dishes were OK at best. I would like to believe that it was just an 'off night' for the cooks but, I will spend my money elsewhere.

Todd E.

Yelp
We always love our take out from there. Great flavor and speedy service. Good portions as well.

Isabella C.

Yelp
Crispy Fish Fillet with Hot Oil has no flavor except spicy. Food doesn't taste good as used to be. Did they have new chef recently? Cow Omasum with Fermented Beans is just on better than the fish.

Dan Y.

Yelp
When you call them, they answer "Corner Asian Cafe on Concord Road". That's a good thing, because there's another one on the other end of Brentwood ... and you do NOT want to miss out on the food here. It used to be that they had 2 menus; one for the "usual suspects" and one for those "in the know", and the "in the know" menu was the one to order from; it contained Sichuan yumminess like spicy cumin lamb and scallion pancakes. Now they've just combined them into one. They do the homogenized cantonese/American Chinese takeout dishes better than most, but the authentic Chinese (mostly Sichuan) dishes are where they shine. Chong Qing spicy chicken is a dish of fiery deliciousness, stir fried beef with hot peppers and cilantro in special sauce is special indeed, and the twice cooked pork is amazing. I haven't been brave enough to try the Cow Omasum dishes yet ... but I'm getting there. If you want takeout Chinese food on the east side of Brentwood, in South Nashville, or in Nolensville, Corner Asian Cafe should be at the top of your list.
google avatar

Gerald B.

Yelp
I stopped in for my first time and was shocked at the prices on the menu. After I took my first bite, the taste justified the price. We ordered Mongolian Beef, Fried Rice, Lo Mein and Chicken Moo Goo. Everything was great and delicious. The staff was friendly and I'll definitely be back. I moved to Nashville three years ago and I've been searching for great Chinese food. This spot is the best in the Nashville area.
google avatar

Steve Y.

Yelp
The food is always good and always ready when they say it will be. Excellent, hard working crew makes sure eat in or take out is a good experience!

Bill S.

Yelp
This place was a hidden gem for years. Good food, good service for dine in and take out. They have recently raised their prices beyond their value and the family atmosphere is gone. I understand food cost but we are talk vegetables and rice! Nothing last forever ...

Yelp
This is probably the biggest surprise of my short time in Tennessee. With family visiting and our typical affliction of indecision when it comes to where to eat, we landed on Corner Asian Cafe. I'm guilty of having written it off as typical strip mall American Chinese - order at the counter and be served some Western invented dishes (hello, orange chicken) alongside egg rolls and crab rangoon. I was amused to see that the front half of the menu adhered to my above expectation but the back half was boldly labeled as their Tradition Chinese Szechuan Style menu. Note to anyone wanting a good meal: stick to the back half of the menu. Period. End of note. We ordered the spicy beef tendon & shank, mapo tofu, spicy cumin beef, roasted pork belly and lo mein. The lo mein, not shocking, was the worst dish and relatively bland. Everything else was fantastic. All different flavors, each just as delicious as the other. So, if your orange/sesame/sweet&sour chicken is bland, try something from the authentic menu or ask your waiter for a recommendation from that section. You won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Stephanie G.

Yelp
What a surprise in middle Tennessee! I love that one side of the menu is Americanized Chinese food and the other side, closer to authentic. We joyfully ordered from both sides and enjoyed everything! We even asked the waitress to pick her favorite item and surprise us- it was so fun and delicious! I especially liked the scallion pancakes. (Tip: ask for some potsticker sauce for dipping- it's perfect for the pancakes!) also on our order: crab Rangoon, tofu special, pork belly- we loved every bite. I can't wait to return. I regret not getting the orange chicken because we saw it go to another table and I was covetous- I suppose we will just have to go back!
